I got my PS3 about a week ago with the BB deal (free guitar hero/gift card.) I also got the Blockhead rechargeable battery for the guitar (
this one.)
The battery works fine, the PS3 works fine... but the reviews for the battery said you could use the USB cable for that to charge your controller as well, and I can't. Only the cord that came with the PS3 works on the controllers. Is there a difference between the 2 cords? (The PS3 one does have that block of plastic on the cord...) Where can I get a second USB cable for my controllers that'll actually work? I'd really like to have a longer cord to use...
I got a couple cables from monoprice. They're the cheapest around and work just fine for anything. The one you need is the mini-B (NOT micro) male to male USB cord (pick your length).
I currently have my Sixaxis based stick hooked up with a 1ft mini-B to male and 6 ft female to male usb. It charges and syncs just fine. I also have normal 6ft and 10 ft mini-b to male usb cords that also charge and sync my DS3s just fine. Overall I've found the 6ft range ideal. Not too much clutter and enough length. It'd also be a good idea to have velcro ties to organize the longer cords.

Now I have a specific question. Has anyone here used a
JVC (Victor) SU-DH1 Surround Sound adapter or an
Astro A40 Mixamp with their PS3 system?
I'm mainly concerned with getting an optical connection versus my current hdmi -> monitor -> headphones (3.5mm). Also the Dolby Headphone option on both would be great for DD or 5.1 enabled games. I'm wondering if going this sort of route is worth it?
So far I'm leaning towards the A40 Mixamp. It seems of better build quality, features a secondary input for another audio source, and charges via USB. However, it doesn't have the various other modes the JVC has (DH1, DH3, etc.). Initially I went with the JVC adapter, however, a CAG on here claimed there was sound lag when using DH modes, which is unacceptable.
Right now my headphones are
Sony MDR-7506. My mic, if I ever use it is a Sony BT headset which I use in stationary mode (don't know the name for it). So far this works out for me, so I'd like to retain it. I'm not exactly in a multiple speaker conducive environment, so I'm restricted to headphones for now.
