Hahaha. Upon further inspection it turns out I was using something that plugs into phones. I'm an idiot. All this gaming is making my eyes go bad.
Thanks guys. I'll try to find an ethernet cable somewhere.
Gamestop sells various lengths of ethernet cable in their 360 section for $2, I believe.
I saw a roll of about 25-50 feet in the one package the one day at the one GS around here. To get 25-50 feet of it for $2 is a steal.
NewEgg has 100 feet of it for $10:

Do you have DSL through Verizon? If so, ask them if they have any Westell 327W's lying around they could 'upgrade' you to, since I just switched to that modem/router about a month or two ago and it's been great.
I used to have a Westell 6100(in bridged mode) and the Linksys WRT54G combo going on and I had ports opened on the Linksys and that DID provide one hell of a better connection than prior.
In my opinion, the Westell 327W is a much better option than trying to bridge a standalone modem and then using the Linksys routers, since the PS3 is known to have issues with Linksys routers.
