PS3 Keeps Losing Sound

So far I've had this happen to me on both BFBC2 and Crysis 2.

And you're having a problem with DS2........

I'm using optical. What's your setup?

You guys on optical or hdmi?

If so, your speakers could be going into a power save state everytime there's silence. Whenever your game goes silent, your system doesn't send a signal via optical or hdmi (digital). Your speakers or sound system will turn off to save power. Once they receive sound again, they turn back on but of course not instantly. That's why there'd be a build up of sound.

Try testing this on the xmb. Turn sound clicks on. And don't move for a while. Then move the cursor around after a couple secs. If you hear a build up of sound, this is exactly what is happening.

If hooked up analog, this will not happen.

Unplug your hdmi and plug it back in. Something this helps.

Though best bet is to switch to analog, which is what my ps3 is on.

That does make more sense. The only time it ever happens is like what you said, I'll be sneaking around and a grenade will go off and do that deafing ringing sound all games do, when it starts coming back to normal thats when everything starts turning to shit.

It's not an everyday thing, and it doesn't do it to all games or even in single player, just sometimes in random MP matches and such. No need for me to go analog.

My new slim PS3 does this as well, except it happens every time i turn off my PS3. I have to reset the sound system everytime by switching from component back to hdmi.

sometimes it doesnt, but 70% of the time i have to do this. I never had this problem with old 40GB ps3 model. :(

I'm not sure if all speakers are like that, but at least the speakers on my Asus VH236H and my Astro Mixamp (1st gen) have this issue. Though the Astro Mixamp, builds up on sound faster than my monitor speakers.

A sort of workaround is to introduce a noise loud enough so that the speakers don't auto turn off. But then you introduce noise into the whole setup which isn't that great.

I've noticed a lot more sound issues since i switched to optical cables (getting a new receiver in a few weeks so i can go back to HDMI).

I don't know if this is a receiver issue, or a PS3 thing- but the bass settings on my receiver never seem to reduce the bass settings on movies, etc. It's really annoying since i do a lot of late night viewing/gaming and I know for a fact the bass can be heard outside.

i was beginnin to think my tv or ps3 had a prob...this started happenin with B:BC2...i just restarted the system

Been reading up on this a little bit more, only because I just to that new Mixamp.

Some games, even GT5 wont work very well in DTS, I have to make sure the only Dolby Digital 5.1 in the sounds options on the PS3.

I'm wondering if Sony's optical can't handle DTS very well.

Could be just talking out of my ass.

Regardless of the Mixamp (even though I know it doesn't support DTS now), I have a sound bar as well that does support DTS. And what does BFBC2 support? DTS.... and it fucks everything up when it's on an optical cable.

I have had this problem only recently, however it appears to be in multiplayer matches UC2 specifically as I just reached level 80. IDK what it is however as I have also had the following
auto-feed errors (rejects disk). Accepting of disk but no blue LED. Freezing at loading screen
(usually at spinning perva). Black screen when attempting to enter safe mode. I am on HDMI btw.

I wiped my HD and it seems mostly better. The auto-feed problem seems to have cured itself. I feel like it's just barely functioning.

This happens to me frequently when playing BF:BC2. I play on a fat 80gb hooked up to a receiver by optical and on a slim 160gb hooked up to a DPX21 headset with optical.

If you're not using a receiver or optical out then its the HDMI's fault. Your cord is either going bad or it doesn't have enough of a data stream to support both video and sound. Some older profiles have this problem.

I actually have a different issue with the new LED TV. I'm getting jumpy screens when I play Mushroom Wars (the screen blinks for a bit and then stops). It doesn't happen when I play other games, weird...

Just restarted my Crysis 2 campain on Super Soldier because I'm bored as all hell. And I also found out it sounds like shit using this Astro Mixamp. I getting so tired of shit never working right. I don't know if it's crytek's sound issue or the fact that any kind of loud bass introduced to the damn thing makes it freak the fuck out.

Also found out the Motorstorm doesn't like the Mixamp either.

And god forbid I put the highest performance exhaust on my car in GT5 because all hell breaks loose when going to the outside view.

MLG approved, my ass. I should have just stuck with my sound bar.

Edit: Alright, did a little goofing around with some movies. Played the opening scene in Swordfish with the C4 strapped people, then played the Matrix Lobby scene. Everything sounds perfect, crystal clear high and mid with bass response acting normal. I think it's the games that are causing me these issues. Dunno why.
