You guys on optical or hdmi?
If so, your speakers could be going into a power save state everytime there's silence. Whenever your game goes silent, your system doesn't send a signal via optical or hdmi (digital). Your speakers or sound system will turn off to save power. Once they receive sound again, they turn back on but of course not instantly. That's why there'd be a build up of sound.
Try testing this on the xmb. Turn sound clicks on. And don't move for a while. Then move the cursor around after a couple secs. If you hear a build up of sound, this is exactly what is happening.
If hooked up analog, this will not happen.
That does make more sense. The only time it ever happens is like what you said, I'll be sneaking around and a grenade will go off and do that deafing ringing sound all games do, when it starts coming back to normal thats when everything starts turning to shit.
It's not an everyday thing, and it doesn't do it to all games or even in single player, just sometimes in random MP matches and such. No need for me to go analog.
