PS3's.. graphic (violent) display
They need to just use the same ratings as movies IMO. Parents and the others who don't play games really don't understand the current system as it is. I personally don't care for excessive gore but I don't feel the need to tell other people what they can or cannot make or buy. I mean, Saving Private Ryan is as gory as any game could ever be and it was rated R. If games got those kinds of ratings then all this would be moot.
I was about to post exactly that -- I agree completely. There's no question that movie ratings are far more stringent than game ratings, and that's not even counting the whole "just a bunch of pixels" factor. It's asinine. Compare "AO" San Andreas with any NC-17 movie you care to name.
Did you forget that your gamercard shows what you've played and haven't played?

"Condemned
Not Played by SYNCHR0NICITY"

So, what was the first game, since you said 2? I only said one, condemned. You said that GTA is shit and that style is the new substance. You were the only one who said it. So far, you've put words in my mouth about GTA, you've judged a game based on one fuckign screenshot and you've commented on a game you've never played. If there is something to be said for style over substance, you definately have the market cornered...
Yea, cause I played it before I had to send my Xbox 360 in - but I'll give it another go tonight. As I own it.

Is it the gore itself or the context of the gore that is the problem? For example, If this was more designed to be a doctor sim, and that was a patient who had been shot, would it still be too explicit or is simply recreating what one might see in trauma room?

How is this a flame? Because he thinks that people cant play a game on a deleted account? oooh, dis.... You bought 3 games with the Xbox 360 that lasted 4 hours and you're too busy to play the boring as hell Condemned, because you're too busy rebuilding your account, getting a new Live account and playing all the way through DOA4. PGR3. and COD2 before diving into the snorefest you wasted $55 bucks on? Oooh, quad-flame!

Those pictures aren't even close to gory, so all you people complaining, grow some balls and learn to deal with it...
If they can get really gory, then we'll be going somewhere...
Go watch some Troma movies and watch some heads explode and if you don't find that fun, then just buy Ratchet and Clank 48, and let people who WANT real REAL horror in their games, get what they want...

Oh yeah baby. Crucifiction the Game! I cna see it now. You can play as either Jesus, One of the Apostles, or "Roman Torturer." You can either recreate the crucifiction or play in "Executioner Mode" where you develop your own forms of torture. Submit Jesus to old roman favorites like peeling the skin from his flesh one inch at a time. Or try a modern approach witht the latest waterboarding techniques. And No matter how long Jesus lasts, the ressurection will ensure you can torture him over and over again!

If the violence submerses us more, than I'm all for it. When it gets out of control and meaningless, then that's different.

Edit: Although I do have a problem with the first picture. What, exactly, would create an entry wound that big and not pass all the way through?
Shotgun.
Yup, but you would probably need some tiny load like birdshot to avoid blowing the head apart completely. Lead powder or even rock salt might work, too.

This looks cool. Think about all the twisted shit you can do with it. Wittle away your opponents so they wind up crawling after you and flogging you with stumps. Like MGS but with more detail. This would put the horror genre over the top.

fucking yeah!

goodness, as much as I'm impressed by the graphical display the gore in the detail is just crazy. I would only like to see this type of realistic gore if its in the right context, like a game based off of CSI or something. I think a good Crime Solving Simulator with all the forensics tools would be an awesome game. Kind of like Trauma Center but with Criminal Forensics.

You guys are acting like you're going to see this in every FPS (who needs an FPS on a console anyway? But I digress). That simply wouldn't make any sense. You know this is only going to be in horror titles.

That doesn't look very real to me at all.

But, as these graphics get better and better, think of how educational they could be. You know, entry-level medical students and such, before seeing the real thing.

Why? The ESRB gets praised more than it gets bashed, as even Hillary thinks it's good enough to put governmental powers behind them even though it's unconstitutional. It took many years for people to learn and accept the MPAA ratings, and we're in that type of situation here. No need to change what isn't broken.

You are joking right? (I'm not being a smartass, tone is hard to pick up online sometimes.)

I'm with Tanuki on this one. The ratings are there, it's just a matter of time before dumbass parents look at it. I was actually at TRU during the sale and there was a mother there with her 6 or 7 year old son. He was picking out games and she would shoot down anything that wasn't rated E, and even then, she checked the back of the box. I was glad to see that.

The graphic violence doesn't bother me, but the fact that the game will probably suck and just rely on "MORE GORE THAN ANY GAME EVER" tagline to get attention does. Yeah, it's over the top, but if they didn't do it someone else would.
GTAIII did not sell 5 bazillion copies because it was violent. It sold because it was an extremely good game.
Going to have to call at least semi-bullshit there. Yeah, it was a good game, and the initial push was due to positive gaming media response, but when Joe Average gamer is selling his friends on it, he doesn't say "this is a fantastic game with open-ended gameplay and a wonderfully designed environment." He says "check out this game where you can run over pimps and shoot people in the head and fuck hookers." GTAIII sans-violence would have likely been big with the gaming community, but it wouldn't have been a cultural phenomenon.

The way I look at it is that I grew up playing games as a little kid, and now that I'm an adult, I want a more adult orientated game. Only thing that pisses me off is when companies try to make a violent game for the hell of it, and it sucks. Like NARC. If you're gonna shock and piss people off, at least make a good damn game for christ's sake

No, I don't see any reason why the ESRB should just give up and install an MPAA-style rating system.
