PSN has returned. What freebie games are you getting?

If it was down till early May that would look bad on Sony. Hopefully it won't be that long anyway. People are already complaining. I would hate to see what happens if it took them till May 10th. I was guessing from the start it might be back up Monday. I was talking about it with a friend earlier today before I heard they was rebuilding the entire security system. I was thinking maybe Monday or Tuesday, but after hearing that. If its up by Friday it will amaze me.
It's been covered that there's nothing to fix. Sony is simply trying to think of what they can do to keep the hackers out. Most likely they have their programmers trapped in a jail cell with their computers, and until they build a firmware update that these hackers can't get through they won't have freedom.

I wonder what prison food in Japan is like?
Man, that doesn't sound good at all... if it's down for much longer, I'd imagine publishers are going to start getting pissed since their PSN game sales are obviously flat until Sony gets its shit together.

Wow, Sony got pwned. Too funny. I wonder how many people will go nuts without PSN.

I especially like the people that think they deserve something from Sony because of this outage. I mean, really? People are spoiled brats sometimes.

I admit I miss it already extremely mostly since I bought a new game this week and can't play it online. Otherwise I wouldn't be missing it as badly. I've got several single player games to play and yet I never touch them. Also got a Wii/360 but I never play those. I'm only keeping the 360 for Gears 3. ;)
Think the built in wifi connection must just be finicky on the PS3. I have a fat PS3 one floor up above the room with the wireless router and a slim on the same floor as the router. The slim only really has one wall between it and the router. The fat has the floor and 2 walls between it. The slim downloads updates much faster than the fat PS3 even though they are each about the same distance from the router.
My PS3's have almost always been in the same room as my router and being hooked to PSN wirelessly has been a nightmare. Even after opening ports for the router I had at the time(Linksys WRT54g) I was getting constant dropouts, so I just finally moved it downstairs and went wired.

No you don't. It fucking sucks. It's worse than King of Fighters XII online. 2-3 second button delay on that game. It's a good game, but for dear god it lagged like ass. It makes Marvel VS Capcom 3 look like GGPO.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/23/latest-update-for-psnqriocity-services/

Earliest: April 26th
Latest: Week of May 9th

They are rebuilding their entire security system. I mean...DAMN.

EDIT: The dates are guesses
The more this goes on, I really think that hackers have nothing to do with this latest "attack", and are just getting the blame while Sony fixes their terrible security system/adds more limitations to what users can do with the system. The Geo lawsuit is over, so now is the time for Sony to do this before others get bold and attempt similar actions.

They have a scapegoat in the hackers, so people get pissed at them instead of getting pissed at Sony for lack of updates, piss poor communication, PSN presumably down for more than a week, unable to play games people paid for, and overall just handling the entire situation extremely poor.

If it was "hackers," you would think Sony would open some sort of communication line within the first few hours on the status of credit card info, emails, names, home addresses, telephone numbers, and passwords. The fact they have still yet to do so is unbelievable.

It's going to be very interesting to see what this new system means for players and how it affects us in the future.

i dont have much lag. my only real complaint is how long it takes me to find a ranked match. otherwise i have no problems.
i dont have much lag. my only real complaint is how long it takes me to find a ranked match. otherwise i have no problems.
That's because you don't notice it. It's input lag. AKA Lag most people won't notice. People will notice it if the game skips, but they won't notice it if it's slight button delay. For most games it's about a second of button delay and it ruins combos. They went with pure input delay rather than lag in the actual picture. I played Jman and it fucking played like ASS.
Your surprised that you need to be online to activate an online downloadable service that is linked to your PSN account and tracks when your logged in, wow.
The game comes with a voucher code, I thought you could type it into Steam and automatically get the game. I didn't know I had to register my PSN account with my Steam account to get the game. Hopefully Sony can keep their shit secure next time someone decides to poke around their servers.

This is the definition of inept. How the hell do you pull this when you have three massively hyped games (one online-only exclusive and two games with heavy PS3-only content) coming out that same week?

Apparently credit card info wasn't taken. Passwords most likely were. Whatever the case, they're rebuilding their entire infrastructure because of it. We'll probably get compensated...somehow. At least PS+ members will, that I'm sure of.

"We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security."

"We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available."

Being a Ps+ member I'd like to say "yes sir compensation please!" but I wouldn't be sore if there wasn't a cake at the end of their maintenance.

Sony is bogged down with so many conspiracy theories atm about why/how of the PSN outage that it makes you more inquisitive about that truth behind it.

This^^. We're looking at $0.1369 (cents) per day...wouldn't be worth the hassle. I could see them putting up a free game, but then, they do that EVERY month with PS+. I would rather they take their time and secure the system, if at all possible. I have plenty of single player games and shows I need to get caught up on anyway.

If Sony gave people anything, I'd guess they'd give everyone a free download as compensation. I don't know what though. Probably Wipeout HD or Warhawk as most people are likely to have played them, so the cost to Sony would be minimal. In addition, it wouldn't affect retail games like MAG.

Proof for both of these? You have no idea what was and was not compromised. There is zero proof that anyone's password has been compromised. A "rumor" says that a Sony Dev account got hacked but not a single person can verify or back this up.

And how are you sure that PS+ members will get compensated? Were we compensated recently when Anon took things down? Nope? Where's your proof?

Is there ANY fighting game that handles perfectly online? I don't think so. Its a genre that just doesn't translate online very well. Until faster internet speeds become cheaper and a standard, I doubt we ever will have a great online fighting game.

Keep in mind that when that happened, it wasn't a multi-day outage taking place around a major weekend where people are probably going to want to play video games. People are just a little more displeased with this current situation.

It seems you want an educated discussion about why Live is better than PSN. OK, bro. I am here to please.

1. Arcade games selection.
2. ESPN 360 - Reason enough for me to pay $60 a year with college football games galore and British + Spanish soccer games in HD
3. Zune Pass - Unlimited music streaming
4. Last fm - free music streaming like Pandora
5. Dedicated servers for online gaming that is more affordable to developers (Sony charges developers bandwith charges based on data downloaded --- http://www.destructoid.com/game-publishers-pissed-at-sony-over-psn-bandwidth-fee--125690.phtml).

Microsoft charges for online services, Sony does not. This is a big advantage that Microsoft has which Sony tried to replicate with their Plus subscription service.

I dont want to ramble but that's why I think LIVE > PSN.

Happy now?

1. Arcade game selection is 'better', but not by much considering most titles are multi-platform (most).
2. ESPN 360 - can watch this on my computer, which I have hooked up to my TV. No need to pay $60.
3. PS3 has Qriocity and Pandora (via the web browser).
4. ^^
5. Servers are essentially the same. I still encounter lag on my 360 games, just like I do on my PS3 games.

I'm neutral, though I favor my PS3 because it has more media capabilities and I don't have to pay $60 a year to use them. I did opt for PS+ simply because of the FREE games, add-on's and now cloud saving. I actually let my 360 subscription run out in Feb. due to no desire to pay for the listed 'features' you posted above. This is of course great, but the free multiplayer really clinches it for me.
Yeah, that free Rally Cross really made the subscription worth paying for.
You mean the free Killzone 3 DLC? Or the Free Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2? Then there are the free themes...but that's just this MONTH. ;)

Feel free to troll elsewhere, you should know better than to try that shit on a PS3 board :)

Why would we need to be compensated for something we don't pay for? The loss of online play is an inconvience not something that's been denied to us.

It's not the end of the world. You'll live.

PS+ members will probably get compensated because they are paying for a service that they can't access. At the very least, the lost days will be added onto every PS+ account. In addition, weekly deals will probably be extended by a week or two. This isn't a glitch that just went away, it is a circumvention of the system or a failure of the system. But it seems like they're rewriting code, so it was probably a circumvention.

Giving their customers a small token of their patience is 100% good PR because it brings your customers back, and gives attention to your store. If they come back with nothing, it hurts business. If they said "FREE MAG FOR ALL" everyone rushes to get their freebie and a few probably get the DLC as well.

As far as password changes go, there was some message by the LBP devs on their facebook page telling people not to change their passwords/account information until a couple of hours after being told to do so.

Why would PS+ get compensation anyways? It's not like it's actual access to PSN (like Xbox Live) it's just to get some deals on the store.

I see no reason why there would be compensation.

People are paying 60 bucks plus for Socom 4, MK, Portal 2, and every other game in the PS3 library. You're paying money for half a game with no PSN.
