Great song! I'm not to into punk music, but NOFX is an amazing band. I love their live album "I Heard They Suck Live". They are a perfect mix of rock and punk IMO. The lead guitar player is fantastic. They are miles above most punk bands in their playing ability. Their songs are funny as hell too.

"You drink you drive you spill" is probably my favorite.
They also add some great SKA to the mix.

Mel Brooks is over rated in general. Not saying he didn't have some funny stuff, but there was a lot of not really that funny stuff too.
You're over rated. Case closed!

I actually think he was best when he was reigned in by the restrictions of TV: Get Smart.
I feel like most of his stuff is the same content, just with a different setting.

Possibly interesting article at MIT Technology Review about the technology behind No Man's Sky. I think it's the best article I've ever not read yet.

I'll apologize for saying that since you didn't mention it at that very moment. You have, however, dismissed their coverage of gender/privilege before and so my frustration was a carryover from that exchange. You outright called it 'stupid' and I've held it (perhaps unfairly) against you. I'm not sure where you were coming from then but in my mind it raised a flag.
Which only means you didn't comprehend whatever post you're taking out of context. Yes, gender issues exist. Yes, gender equality should be a goal. Yes, gender discussion is important. And once again you manage to insult the person you're talking to by implying I'm somehow sexist and dismissive of gender issues, just because they don't agree with you.

The fact that you take some old, misremembered post and decide i'm a 'dude' is exactly what I'm talking about.

That said, the current focus on gender in gaming takes it to a ridiculous degree.

Because you know what?

a) sex

Sex is okay. Big boobs are okay. Dudes with ridiculous abs and python muscles are okay. Coming down on a game because it has big boobs doesn't advance any cause, it simply creates controversy for the sake of controversy. Because even in a perfectly 'balanced' world, there should be a place for erotic (for lack of a better term) art. And it also ignores that 99% of males are presented as ridiculous adonis level perfection as well.

b) art

People should be able to draw whatever the fuck they want.

c) economic

The largest market for 'hardcore' games is male. By a crazy long shot. Obviously people will develop for that market. Expecting otherwise approaches naive.

d) perspective

The vast majority of developers are male. It's no surprise, then, that the dominant story telling perspective is male. Even if forced to create heroines, they'd still be telling stories through a 'women's perspective as viewed by a male perspective'.

So... not remembering exactly what my previous post was about, or what the context was of it, I feel safe in guessing it was probably something like:

Writing article after article accusing games, gamers, or developers of 'sexism' has gotten old, fast, because it's an overly simplistic way of viewing the issue. Yes, gamers should stop using words like 'rape' or attacking female gamers or devs. But if you actually want to see more heroines, then the only true answer is... wait.

Wait? How can that be the answer? It's the answer because the games that exist reflect the market. And now that more and more females are getting into gaming (casual being the 'gateway' drug), more and more games will be created by them and for them.

You can see the same thing in every industry, from film to books, to porn. As the market expands, more content is created that meets that market. Porn is a perfect example, since it's so raw. You can find everything from extreme to extreme, men dominant, women dominant, humiliation, whatever, directed and created by both genders. You don't write an article when some porn video is too 'sexist' for you, you watch something else, or perhaps even make your own.

So just because I think many of the articles on sexism in gaming are misguided, simplistic, antagonizing click-bait articles does not mean I don't have opinions on the subject or am against gender equality. I just don't think the path to gender equality is creative castration or shaming gamers or developers. I think it's having women enter the industry and making games. That will happen naturally as more and more women get into gaming.

But expecting every release in a currently male dominated hobby to appeal to everyone is kind of backwards.

My wife is a female gamer, in that she likes about 3 games. Match 3 puppy/kitten games. Lego games. Pixeljunk Monster. She hates competitive games. She hates hard games. She hates redoing anything. She is a completely, totally, different market from me. And she doesn't buy games, I do. So, dropping from the 'male/female' level to the

'me/her' level, I'm not surprised more games are aimed at me than her.

Sorry for the 'dude' answer, I wasn't really paying attention when I wrote this because I was too busy watching hockey and drinking a brewski while wearing my wifebeater.

And yes, Polygon is corrupt. A site that tries to rely on journalistic integrity should never have taken half a million from a primary player in their industry. Even if they never write a biased thing, the acceptance of that cash undermined their credibility, same as if a vegetable review site took money from Monsanto. It has nothing to do with 'gender' articles -- I actually thought that was kotoku or something, not Polygon. I don't read Polygon, so don't really know what they're up to.

Not sure if anyone would be interested, but I can stream Rogue Legacy or The Swapper if anyone wants to see how those play, since there seems to be a lot of talk about them.

Get Smart was very funny. At least as long as you stay far, far away from the last season or so. Those almost never got shown in reruns because it was so incredibly awful. I am not sure, but I think Mel Brooks and the other creative folks behind it must have moved on by then, but they kept the show limping along for a while longer.

I have never seen The Godfather either, but I do want to see it. It just hasn't happened yet.

Citizen Kane I have seen and it is good.

And as long as were on the subject of fast food, I fucking hate those red coca-cola multi-soda dispensing machines that have started popping up all over the place. The Dr. Pepper that comes out of them tastes like shit compared to when it had its own tap. Burger King and Wendy's used to be one of the few place in town you could get decent Dr. Pepper at a fast food restaurant, but now they've started using those fucking machines.

Has anyone got any PS3 Destiny codes left?  A friend of mine asked me about one today and that was way too many days ago to go back and search for.

If it's the ones I'm thinking of that have 4 buttons per "tap", I agree completely. It tastes like it mixes all the sodas together. Blech.

I know there has been talk of trophy boosting sessions. Anyone have Far Cry 2 that is interested in boosting the MP trophies? I know it is a long shot, but supposedly the ranked servers have been fixed and most of the MP trophies are ultra-rare (plat is under 1% achieved).

I've only seen like three, maybe four Mel Brooks movies, so I can't speak for his whole catalog of work, but Spaceballs is the muthafuckin titsapoppin and I will not be told otherwise.

You do not want to read this.  Reviews of the six front page articles on polygon.  Because work is not what I want to do today.

Article #1 - Dwarf Fortress wil crush your CPU because creating history is hard

Pretty neat and interesting article about terrain generation.  I still feel like I'm missing a massive component of this story (i.e. what is Dwarf Fortress?  I guess a game?), but it's cool.  Working on something like this for 20 years feels nuts, but more power to those dudes.

Article #2 - No skin thick enough: The daily harassment of women in the game industry

This feels like what people usually give polygon shit for.  Not sure why, it seems like they keep publishing these sorts of articles so why do people care?  You wouldn't ask a snow leopard to stop wearing his spots.

This is an acceptable reminder of how shitty everyone treats girls/women on the internet.  I was worried that it was going to fall in to that clickbait category with the opening statement, but it's mostly a reasonable commentary using people's personal experiences as a guideline.  My biggest complaint?  That it doesn't take time elude to the fact that this is a problem on the entire internet.  It's an anonymity problem and people are animals - it's not exclusively a game industry problem, women in the games industry are just giant targets, front and center in front of the anonymous animals that love trolling or destroying people either for fun or personal satisfaction.  I don't think it's fair and I'm certainly not trying to excuse or diffuse the behavior, just as an outsider it seems slighlty less surprising.

And, while I don't doubt for a second that as far as game industry careerists go women have this problem x1000000 more than men, I'll bet I could find almost word for word some of the same super offensive quotes about rape / dead babies / racist shit in my personal xbl messages if I still had my account.  And I didn't even play online that much.

Still, not the terrible pit of hell writing and destruction I expected based on people's derision of polygon.  Not what I want to read in my free time either, but that's cool.

Article #3 - In the face of recent wins, Nintendo's lack of online functions is no longer forgivable

That title might be clickbait, not sure.  The wording is just clever enough that every part of it can be argued (1. What recent wins?  2. Lack of online functions?  There's plenty!  3. Is no longer forgivable?  That seems harsh, it doesn't bother me etc etc etc)

Long story short, Nintendo still doesn't have a reasonable online id / digital content management system and it really, really should in 2014.  This article seems to be a response to the weird new WiiU content transfer system which admittedly looks a little ridiculous and I can't think of a scenario where I would use it if I had one.  It's hard for me to be mad at this article if only because I agree with it - it's not as overly harsh as the title implies, but reads more like a lamenting.  It really is incomprehensible why Nintendo hasn't done any major overhaul in this arena.  But in any event, the article is fine.  Ben Kuchera wrote it and I think he's somebody?

Decent article, but also has been echoed by every wang on the internet for the past 10 years.

There was also an advertisement for 'Golf Management College' at the bottom of this page which got me to laugh.

Article #4 - Launching Civilization: Beyond Earth

First article about a game (I mean I guess article #1 was about a game?  still not totally sure.).  It's a big history lesson about Alpha Centauri and Civilization.  Thought it would be interesting, but it's seriously like 20 pages long and contains factoids like 'Sid loves California Pizza Kitchen'.  It ends up being sort of the story behind these game designers that are working on Beyond Earth I think.  I had to skim the rest because I ain't got time for that.

For people that love the designers behind the games or learning about the history/process, probably a really good albeit reeeallly long winded read.  Seriously long winded.

Article #5 - This is the most accurate Pokemon trailer you'll ever watch

I have a feeling this is going to be about twitch plays pokemon...

Nope!  Phew!  Article is short blurb about a shared video that's supposed to be I guess a realistic depiction of pokemon games.  Harmless, but hardly worth clicking on.  Didn't want to watch the video because pokemon.

Article #6 - Unforgiving, sophisticated and vast: Three deaths in The Long Dark

I like this article - a sort of first person narrative of what it's like to play this game (through the first three deaths) that's set in the canadian wilderness by someone who has apparently sunk hundreds (!) of hours in to DayZ.  This game sounds like a first person Don't Starve which to me sounds like possibly the only thing that could be worse than Don't Starve, but the article is well done and made me interested.  It's a nice way to expose something without doing one of those silly preview pieces that magazines tend to throw together with boilerplate text from the advertising branch of the developer.

tl;dr I don't get what's so awful about polygon other than they probably have more opinion pieces than other sites and maybe people aren't so in to that.  Of course I didn't read any reviews to dig in to the bias thing because I don't care and for whatever reason it was infinitely difficult to even get this site to load the front page articles.  So, not as bad as I expected from all the hubbub, but I don't think I'll make it part of my morning routine.

I can never find a good tasting Dr. Pepper out of a fountain machine. So when I go out I usually drink Coke out of the fountain machines. Dr. Pepper is a drink those machines know how to fuck up.

As long as by movies you mean 1 and 2, I'll agree with this. Please do not ruin the series by watching 3.
I actually didn't think it was that bad.

No thanks. I don't like gangster/mafia movies or TV shows. Games are a different story (e.g., Sleeping Dogs).
For what it's worth, my wife usually doesn't either, but she loved the Godfather movies. There's not a ton of killing and crap if that's what you're thinking.

I prefer fountain Dr. Pepper to canned/bottled Dr. Pepper. If fucked up Dr. Pepper is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Haven't seen Godfather (I think) but have seen Mafia! Same difference right?

I watch and enjoy older movies from time to time, I just watched Fritz Lang's film M for the first time last week, quite interesting. One director I don't understand that has been practically deified is Martin Scorsese. I've seen Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Bringing out the Dead, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Departed, Shutter island, Hugo, and I tried to watch Raging Bull. Some of them are ok (I really don't understand the gushing love for Goodfellas), some of them are pretty good, but none I would call masterpieces.

Forgot to tell you guys it's my birthday tomorrow. Thanks in advance for the $5 donations to my PS4 fund. Pm me for my PayPal info.

I refuse to watch Godfather movies on the grounds that the mafia is a male dominated, and therefore sexist, organization and the film was made by Hollywood, which is also male dominated and sexist.  Hollywood, don't think a token best picture oscar to a female director forgives 100 years of crass stereotyping.

Actually, I'm a movie geek and have watched them all at least 10 times.   And most other old movies you can think of.

I know you were joking here, but oddly, the future female director that was in 3 is what ruined that movie for me.
