Yea that guy in the middle is totally gonna steel your weed, but i bet velo has guns for protection :)

Almost done with Metal Gear Bioshock Burial at Sea Part 2. I don't like it near as much as the first. Elizabeth is so weak. Not digging the forced stealth at all. Why did everyone rave about this one but shit on Part 1?
The ending, that's why.

finally finished up the last of us. for anyone that cares, thoughts spoilered below (don't read it if you haven't played it, PHARM).

* I'm probably alone here, but tooooo long. I ended up not hating the game and having some fun, but I could've certainly done with less of it.

* I get that there's a 'right' way to play this game (which is essentially the survivor/grounded difficulties I guess) but I think I probably enjoyed it more on easy. having _options_ for any given situation made it fun; having to always save every single bullet and kill everyone with a bottle to the head/run up and smash combo feels like it would ruin my experience. I would usually stealth a section until I blew it and then shoot my way out re4 style.

* speaking of which, the game plays a lot like modern resident evil games to me (like a mix of re5 and 6). again, that's when played the 'wrong' way.

* that ending is questionable, which I think makes it good. I hated what it did to the characters (or my perception of them), but I guess it's better to elicit some sort of emotion than nothing at all. I wish that they would've made it a choice with two completely different endings when you're in the OR - save her or walk out. would've made the game 100x better in my mind with that one simple change.

I'll probably get my one missing collectible and joke tonight and play the beginning on grounded+ just to see how rough it is.

is the Left Behind dlc worth playing or is it skippable? hoping to trade this bad boy tomorrow.

I loved the ending. Naughty Dog has never played around with multiple endings so I don't expect it was ever in the cards, but it would have diminished it if there was a choice. They spent the whole game building Joel and Ellie's relationship so that it would only make sense for him to choose to save her and kill anyone who got in the way. Great stuff

Also, Left Behind is awesome. Definitely play. It's not that long and there are a couple interesting new gameplay ideas (people and infected at the same time). The majority of it is story stuff, though.

This looks amazing. A bit confusing, though...at times it was 1st person, other times 3rd, and sometimes it seemed like it was a floating camera rather than being attached to the character.
That's because it's a cinematic trailer, and besides, we've known for a long time that it's a 3rd-person shooter.

Am I the only one who thinks Sebastian (player character) looks kind of like Matt Smith (Doctor Who)?

I might give left behind a shot, started watching it on youtube and paid more attention that I would've expected so I guess I should.

yeah, I get why they did it but that's kind of my point - *I* would've liked to have made the decision instead of it being on rails. I don't expect every game (or even most games) to be choose your own adventure, but handing over the reins to the player at the very end I think would've made a pretty big impact - like 'how did YOU interpret this story'. but whatever, I'm certainly not the one making the game.

I replayed the intro this morning just to set up the grounded+ glitch and noticed that the ending fits his personality just right - he was willing to drive right past that family with the kid (demanded it even), lied to his daughter about it only being the cities, and barely blinked about leaving his brother behind just to keep going with his daughter. in a way the ending mirrors the intro.

I think so, but agree with Stotch. If you didn't really like the main game, then you probably aren't missing anything. But it does give you some cool background into Ellie.

Also, got the plat for Velocity Ultra last night. The Smith challenge ended up not being that bad once I actually focused on it. Now I gotta figure out what to play next on the Vita.

If you liked the Spelunky Daily Challenge Challenge idea, you need to get yourself over to that PSN OT trophy thread and vote for it! Not the trophy one, the Daily Challenge one. Do it!

One day until Spelunky PS4 (and free Spelunky for all except heathens)!

Our youngest (Emmett) has voiced interest in streaming coop play with me, so expect that in the near future….

It's not going to happen this month Crunch, but you should PM me or post with more details on how you see that working, and how easy/hard it will be to track scores for everyone. I'm assuming there's a leaderboard within the daily challenge in spelunky.

I couldn't really try to sell it since I don't know anything about it.

Ahhh. Yeah, you guys need to keep in mind that I don't give a shit about stories 99% of the time. Don't hype me up for story in games!!!

Gameplay-wise, BaS Ep 1 > BaS Ep 2.
Well, I forgot that a lot of the time, you and I are almost polar opposites when it comes to story vs. gameplay. :boxing:

I ragequit ICO last night during the section in the graveyard. You go down the steps, and then a bunch of the shadow monsters come out and you have to fight them while trying to keep them away from that useless girl. Then you have to push a block onto a plate, direct the girl to the other plate, go in the door, climb a chain to the upper level, go back outside and push a block off the high ledge to use to replace the girl on the other plate. Then you go in the door and have to do some more climbing. Well, I missed a jump and died and it sent me all the way back to the couch, so I said fuck it. It probably didn't help that I had a raging headache at the time.

Am I the only one that gets motion sickness from the camera in that game?

I hate to say this, but I'm with Tyler on story in video games. The vast majority of the time a good story to me (in video games) is one that you can skip by pressing X.

I always picture myself as someone that cares about good stories, but most of the time I find myself not paying full attention to cut scenes and dialog stuff and audio log type things. I mean I did really enjoy some of the Bioshock stuff (especially the Infinite ending), but a lot was missed until I read up about it later. I just want short succinct cut scenes that don't drag (I'm looking at you Theives in Time).

So I guess I'm more in the "want good gameplay" over the "want good story" camp.

I thought you would have been in the gameplay camp.
It really depends on the game. For Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite, Burial At Sea, The Last of Us, Spec Ops, and even Deadly Premonition, the gameplay itself didn't floor me, but I immensely enjoyed their stories. I won't turn down a game if it lacks a compelling story (e.g., Just Cause 2, one of the funnest games I've played in years), but I also won't ignore them for the most part.

I mean, come on, I'm not playing Pix the Cat because I want to know if there's a plot twist behind Pix's motivation for gathering baby chicks.

K, October challenge info is in the OP.  Make sure to read it as there have been some changes.  Also I'll answer a few other FAQ questions here as well, let me know if I miss anything or there's anything else you want to know.

  • You have to get the 100% in one version of the game.  You can't have 6 trophies in the PS4 version and 5 trophies in the Vita version.  All 11 have to be earned in one version of the game.
  • You still have to PM me to win.
  • Tournament starts tomorrow, as soon as you can get your hands on the game you're welcome to start.  Tournament ends October 31st, you cannot win, get 2nd, 3rd, etc. after that date.
  • Related, the Velocity 2X tournament is now CLOSED.  There will be no 5th place awarded.
  • NEW RULE! You must have your PSN card in your CAG signature to be eligible to win.  If you absolutely refuse to do this or are unable to do this, you need to PM both myself and Vigilante and we will go through the steps of verifying your identity privately.
  • Please register, it's fun to know how many people are competing.  You register by answering YES in the current pole.  Registration is not mandatory.
  • Munkywawa has been awarded 3 points for his PixelJunk 2nd lap victory
  • TheCAGChampIsHere IS allowed to compete still.  His identity has been verified by me and he is eligible to win if he wants to.

I have decided to avoid TLOU which according to many is the best video game story ever just because of the stealth gameplay mechanics which usually make me hate playing a game.

Hate of Visual Novels

Becomes enraged when forced to sit through lines of dialogue with no gameplay other than pressing "X" repeatedly

/SoM reference
This is why you only play them if they support auto-skip for easy trophy stat padding. :)

I really really tried to get into VLR, but the amount of dialog and spamming of X made me want that one to just be over.

I don't know who has played Ground Zeroes, but I liked the direction they're taking the series with in terms of streamlining cutscenes. That said, I do like Shadow Of Mordor's old school approach to cutscenes.

Also, Destiny has no skip option. fuck that noise.

Regarding TLOU ending...

since we are getting a sequel, and assuming it is with Ellie and Joel, they can't give you an option to kill off Ellie.

At least TLOU has a crouch button. Ubisoft still hasn't figured out how to include that control option in six AC games.

Why in the fuck does it matter to you?

If they can knock it out and get a maximum return for it then good for them. Don't be jealous that they have more time to play games than you.
Pretty sure "knocking it out and getting a maximum return" isn't the point of gaming.

It's not the quanity of time I'm surprised at, it's the direction it's focused in.

i'm really surprised someone would spend $60 for something and then try to wring all enjoyment from it within 72 hours.

Finally, I remember posting earlier telling some of you not to play Strider because it seemed like a possible challenge game.  At this point I'd say go ahead and play it if you want.

I mean, we picked frickin' Pix the Cat this month!  That's a pretty good sign that we'll probably try and make something from the new PS+ lineup work each month rather than dig into the backlog.  I can't promise Strider will never be picked, but at this point it looks doubtful.  I also didn't realize quite how easy it was, it probably wouldn't be the best game for the tourney anyway.

I really didn't like ICO much at all. I don't really know why I pushed through to the end other than the fact that it is short and I don't like to leave a game unfinished.

About the motion sickness, I usually get it from every game that possibly has a chance of making someone sick. ICO, however, didn't bother me.

True.

For games I want to see the story, and have gotten their hooks into me so I'm curious about what happens next. I'll play on easy. (looking at you Bioshock)

Some games I'll give up on even if they are "fun" but the story isn't working for me (Uncharted 3)
