As for me, my free PS+ is up in exactly two weeks, so I'm definitely not gonna waste the time downloading all these "free" games just to have them go inactive after that.
Might as well put the claim in though in case you ever reup.

I can't imagine ever letting this thing lapse. I'll be a PS+ subscriber for as long as the program exists. I'm of the opinion that it's the best deal in console gaming.
Nice. I will be getting 2 and 3 today then. Along with a few of the free games.
I forgot to mention that price is for + only 6.99 I believe is the standard sale price

Glad I have like 400 GB free lol- going to download these puppies all night (will probably be slow as hell all week, don't complain guys!)

Hopefully NA will get motorstorm apocalypse soon
That HDD won't fit in a PS3. Look for drives that are 9.5mm in height, that one is 12.5mm.
Really? I kept seeing... 'Get a 2.5"!'. Hmmm... Thanks! Looks like I "might" be researching more GS/Kmart/Other Stores transfers to get a 750GB from Best Buy for $50 or less out of pocket. That...and...delete stuff I may no longer be interested in. Especially, expired trials!!!!!

I'll be sure to ask opinions in here, first!

Thanks!:)
Don't know if this was posted before but each sly hd remake is 4.89
Cool, gonna get these. Been look for them in my area.
Almost. Not everything is completely up-to-date, but I'll be updating it soon to do that.
Awesome, thanks. I'll remember to check there when I need to find out a store price and I'm away from my PS3. Excellent resource!
Lol, i went right for Virtua Fighter and LBP2. Doubt i'm gonna even DL half of those games for a while, so damn big, and my HDD is only 120GB.

Wouldnt be surprised if there were network issues tonight
I'm the same way, on the same sized HDD. I'll just download them when I'm ready to play them. LBP2 might be getting downloaded right away though.

This has got to be voted Deal of the Year. Even if you pay for the 1 year, that's 50 bucks for 250+ PLUS THE OTHER 11 MONTHS worth of games. AMAZING

DEAL OF THE DECADE

If these full games keep coming, it's going to be weird owning licenses to games instead of having them on my shelf or downloaded to my console. I'm gonna have to rely on an Excel spreasheet to keep track of which games I own and still need to beat.
^My thoughts a year ago.

After renewing last month, I regret not doing so.
If I had actually gone out to Target during that $14 PS+ one year ad misprint, I'd gladly re-up come mid June, but PS+ ain't worth more than $15 to me. So unless Sony gives out those freebie codes again(why I have it till mid June) I'm not gonna bother. besides which, I already own the ones I'd really want out of those freebies on disc(inFamous 2, Just Cause 2).
I can't imagine ever letting this thing lapse. I'll be a PS+ subscriber for as long as the program exists. I'm of the opinion that it's the best deal in console gaming.
If you had the chance to KEEP some of the 'free' games I might think the same way, since some of the minis n other freebies aren't worth much more than $1-2 to me. But paying $4 a month to download stuff n clog up the HDD that I won't be able to keep unless I keep subscribing isn't worth it to me. Mind ya, I don't see myself playing many of them beyond their free period, but in the event I decided I wanted to and it had lapsed, that would be a buzzkill.

When you put in a new HDD, you have to redownload everything, correct?

EDIT: Weird. I only have like 20GB left on my 120GB, but when I add up all the downloaded games and game data utility, it only equals about 80GB of my HDD. Where's the other 30 or so gigs?
When you put in a new HDD, you have to redownload everything, correct?
yes, of course. But I am also wondering about the accounts and stuff, will I have to add all my accounts back to my ps3 or are they somehow saved somewhere besides my hdd?

I cant believe Sony is releasing all those on day one instead of rolling them out slowly over the next few weeks

Not if you back up to an external

The blog said there are going to be additional updates tomorrow and Thursday, but I wouldn't expect much gaming content there. Mostly probably videos from E3.

Also, I don't have the talents to actually replace my PS3 hard drive, but I can still use an external one with it, right? And is it true that even if I use an external one, no single file can be bigger than 4GB?

And I don't have enough room...

I have a 320GB portable hard drive, might see if the HD in it will fit in the PS3, and throw my 120GB in it seeing as I hardly use it.
Just curious, anyone whos swapped HDD's, did you have to deactivate/reactivate PSN accounts?
That's not necessary for an hd swap.

Yes unless you do a back up to an external hd and do a restore.

I might pick up FFIV: complete for my Vita. FFIV was always my favorite and it would be nice to finally play The After Years.

Don't undersell yourself, i know nothing about computers, building them, replacing parts and it literally took me 5 minutes to replace my ps3 HDD.

You literally pop the side off, unscrew up, replace, screw and pop the side back on.

If i can do it anyone can.

External would only be useful for videos, music, photos, etc. Only the internal can handle games. It's really an easy process, as you just open up the hatch, pull out the hard drive, put the new one in, and you're good to go. Though you need an external drive to do the back-up process so everything is transferred to the new HDD.

14 gigs for an open-world game like Infamous 2 makes sense to me, but I wonder why R&C All 4 One is so honking huge. The big knock on the game was that it ditched the series' traditional semi-open environments and put you on rails.

Except that on the fat PS3's the HDD is held in there by those blue screws that everybody was complaining about were so tough to remove. Many people supposedly stripped them while trying to get the HDD's out. I'm only speaking from what I've seen mentioned on various forums regarding upgrading or swapping HDD's in the older model PS3's.

As I mentioned above, the system reserves so much of the HDD for system shit(firmware updates, etc), so you never truly have 100% of the HDD regardless of size.

I had no problem removing them, the only problem i ran into was a firmware issue where i had to put a thumb drive in to finish the install.

I am literally retarded when it comes to this stuff and i still did it, granted i have tools out of the ass and had the right screw driver to take those screws out.

side note:

All 3 sly games are under $5 each! been wanting the collection but didn't wanna spend more then $15-20 so i am defiantly biting on these. As much as i want Infamous 2 and some others i have to pick and choose, my comcast 250gb monthly limit doesn't go very far.

Bah, this deal is pulling me in all sorts of directions. I'm not a PS+ member so I'd be investing at least $17 just to get these games (which is still a great deal, no doubt). But I'm also using a 60GB PS3 so I'd have to put in a new hard drive as well as find an external HD to transfer the data to first. This is becoming an investment for free games that I might not even get a chance to complete. I still haven't beat any of the games I downloaded for free from the PS hacking scandal last year.

For those that have used a laptop harddrive as a replacement in a PS3, how easy is the process? Do you literally just have to transfer the data from the old PS3 to an external HD and then insert the HD from the laptop? Do you need to clear out the HD from the laptop first or will the PS3 automatically clear it and format it?

For anyone looking to upgrade to a hard drive at least 1 TB in size, I have a thread in the Request forum for sharing deals on such drives, complete with my findings thus far: Looking for a deal on a new hard drive for my PS3 (notebook hard drive >= 1 TB). Feel free to share any better deals if you find them.

My findings thus far (links in that thread): the best deal I've found for a compatible 1 TB drive is $102, and I haven't found any compatible drives that are larger than 1 TB yet (they don't seem to exist on the consumer market yet).

Just go to the game on psn menu and look at info, it tells you when it expires

Seems the hard drive I have should work perfectly. Only question now is where do I put the backup lol.

Also, seems a 7200 RPM hard drive is not recommended as it could cause your PS3 to overheat. Not sure how true this is but figured I would warn people just in case.

Upgrading a hard drive is cake, like mentioned above it's just a couple screws. Backing up to an external is easy to, it's just a setting under data management. The real problem is how long it takes. I backed up my 60GB which was only half full and I think it took 6 hours to copy to the external, then another 6 to copy back to the new drive. I put a 500GB in and now wishing I went for a 750GB or 1TB as with these kind of deals I can see HD space becoming a factor, and I can't imagine how long it will take to back up and restore 500GB of data!

There's no reason anyone would have to clog up their HDD. You don't have to fully download and keep all 12 games on your hard drive. As long as you go through with the purchase and start the download, the games are yours for as long as you're a Plus member. Just go into your transaction history and download the games whenever you decide you want to play one.

Problem with that is a lot of us have bandwidth caps.

I can't just dl 12-15gb games whenever i want, even though i have 250gb a month i have to space that between me and my girlfriend and we don't have cable TV so a good portion of our BW goes to hulu, xfinity app and netflix. Other streaming etc.

I still think it's goddamn ridiculous we have bandwidth caps in 2012, the whole digital age will never take over long as companies keep forcing these caps on people and it looks like they aren't going away, ATT u-verse just added a cap not that long ago.

But you're not going to be downloading the same game over and over. You just go through with the purchase now and then download the game whenever you are ready to play it. As time goes by, you just get rid of the games that you are no longer playing to free up space.
Servers must be getting hammered, as the download speeds for me are going some what slow.
Downloading LBP2 and it's flying along. For me a MB/sec is about the average.

I was I little worried when I didn't see an unlock key for Infamous 2, but all I had to do was d/l and cancel and there's my game!
Pretty much have everything already downloaded on offer, save for VF5 and Warhammer. But those can wait.
Decided to start with Guardian of Light for a little while, then back to see what happens after the first hour of Infamous 2.

My system worked!

You don't even need to start the download to count the game as "bought" for the purposes of downloading later. You just need to complete check out and cancel out when given the opportunity to download.

How about the latest Street Fighter they just released on PSN? (can't be bothered looking at the full name)
It's a mind-boggling 18GB!!! For a fighter!?

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that, so I just went with what I always do. I never use the cart for the free games. I just go click through to the download screen and then erase the ones I don't need at the moment.

Yeh I know I think you misunderstand me.

When I heard which games were going to be free last night I went ahead and downloaded all of their demo/trials and Full Game Trials.

So I now have most everything already playable. And the store has only been live for what, an hour?

Wait hang on we're you even referring to me? Opps.
