See, with this whole MGS4 fiasco, that's why I bought all the old games but never played them. I'm waiting for the trophy support to be added. And it all pays off now!

I can't imagine playing a game because I like it, I just buy games I can't stand and force myself to play them because of trophies. Which reminds me I still need to pick up Hannah Montana for that easy platinum!

B. I'm not mad I didn't get the trophies, I'm mad they added them 4 years later and a month after MGO shuts down (By which time a big chunk of people already sold their copies or destroyed them due to MGO rage).

I don't think anyone is really trying to be mean(it just comes naturally for me:evil:;)), but there was a time when just completing a game was enough of an achievement for gamers. But now if a game doesn't have trophies or achievements some people won't even play it, regardless of how good the game may be. That's just outright silly as shit to me.

I'm love the size of my e-peen. I let the wifey know when I unlock a high point achievement and look to her and say "yeah, you want some of this dont ya ;)"

Seriously though, I've been gaming for 25+ years, so I've been through it all. Personally I love achievements and trophies these days. I like having goals to shoot for. IDK, guess I'm just a big dork.

They're not releasing them out of nowhere. It's because of a budget version being released in Japan.

People who love the game enough will buy it and replay it again if they want the trophies. I wouldn't mind doing that since the game is so cheap now and I haven't played it for years. When I have nothing else to play I might, that is if the trophy patch even gets released in the U.S.

Back the ol' days they mailed you your achievements.

haha, i remember those nintendo power pictures of the highscores and the flash would block out everything and they are like, 'don't use the flash!', lol.

but yeah, i mean i was 'platting' earthbound and ff6 and ct back in the day, now it just gives me concrete goals and i love the timeline and etc. i would have forgot half the games i played if i didnt have trophies, but whatever. im a huge dork too, so id rather have a trophy system than doing an excel sheet aka shipwreck style of what games i play/beat/complete.

i remember on earthbound, like to get the special bat or something or even in ff6 dinos you had to fight these monsters and there was like 1/256 chance of getting the item, but you kept doing it to have it all. you didnt get a trophy, there was no online, no one in the world would know you did it, but you still did it. so i dig trophies. at least the cool original expand the game trophy lists.

and geez, this is totally off topic, but i just wanted to play a round of Payday the Heist, i hadn't played in months, and a freaking mammoth 1.5gig patch was needed. oooh boy. edit - and i look it up, what was all this stuff added...seems like a higher difficulty level?! oh geez, lol

I actually don't get the achievement/trophy hate. They can be fun for extra challenges and stuff - like the Assassin's Creed games throw some fun ones in that show off things you wouldn't know you could even do in game unless you did it by accident (although one of the ac:b achievements is completely awful). On the other hand, some of the Uncharted ones (for example) are a miserable grind and I always skip em.

I feel like they can add a bit more value to a game purchase and aren't strictly for epeen display, but ymmv.

This. Some are really fun to get, others are just damn insane (Like the Dynasty Warrior games, or most JRPGs)

I platted Dragon's Dogma eithout even trying because I was having so much damn fun with it.

Though I know some people who literally wont play a game without trophies, or a game they know they cant plat on.
 
I got a free game during that Xbox 360 Old Spice gamerscore competition. I think it's fun to go after trophies and achievements and I don't have my PSN profile stuff posted anywhere and I don't have any friends on PSN to show off for. It just adds a little more value to the game for some people. Something else to do, you know?

Stupid question - I've never played an MGS game. Is it worth starting from the beginning? Could I get away with just doing the HD collection + MGS4?

There are tons of games without trophies that I play. I'm currently 50 hours into one. I spent 100+ hours each on Etrian Odyssey 1-3 and Infinite Space. I killed emerald and ruby weapons in FFVII...

But sometimes trophies make it more fun. Not when you have to run around in Prototype to get hundreds of collectibles. But some give you goals you normally wouldn't try for. And the "ding" is just a little pat on the back.

I get 100% maps on dungeon crawlers even though it isn't required, but being able to get trophies for doing so makes me feel better. So what?

Yeah. The games that add tons of collectibles(looking at you, Just Cause 2) just to try and pad their games hours are ones that I usually don't play much beyond the main storyline.

I've only played 1 and 2 so I can't speak too much on this, but I found 1 to be significantly better than 2 so I'd say start with 1. You can download it off the PS Store for I'd assume $7.

I find that the only thing worse than full-on achievement/trophy whores are the high and mighty people who don't like them and feel they need to spout their opinion about them nonstop and look down on anyone who does enjoy them.

Well none of the storylines make any sense anyway so you won't miss out on much, so you should go for it. The original MGS was the best game IMO for its time, just not sure how well it holds up with dated graphics and the like today on HD screens.

MGS4, for me, was just far too much cutscene watching. Some of those you could take a power nap thru and wake up and it'd still be going....I enjoy playing video games, not watching them.

Why does it matter if people back you up on this? My problem is with the use of the phrase "slap in the face" and it's ridiculous overuse by entitled, whiny gamers. Everything that could be remotely negative is a slap in the face. Just now, you equated a slap in the face with a little annoyance. It's the same as if someone came in here and said the trophy patch is Kojima raping his MGS4 supporters.

If other people feel that it is a slap in the face as well, then they're just as dumb as you, it doesn't make you "right" or prove any point.

The "slap in the face" phrase is hardly the same as saying someone is raping their supporters. I don't even know why you're comparing those two, to be honest. You say I make ridiculous claims and then you go and make a comparison such as that.

It's not just the fact that you're replying to me, but it's how devoted you are to proving that my usage of the phrase was 'wrong' and 'asinine'. Who cares what phrase I used? Like I said, it was a bit of an overstatement, but I don't think I was completely out of the ballpark.

Have you ever been slapped in the face? Do you really equate it to being a little annoyed? Of course there are gonna be some gamers that also think it's a slap in the face. That's my point. Everything is a slap in the face. DLC is a slap in the face. GOTY games are a slap in the face. Vita memory cards are a slap in the face. Now trophy patches are a slap in the face. This is the crux of my argument. Why would I be surprised if other entitled, whiny gamers agreed with you?

I'm comparing the two statements because they are just as equally overused. The fact that you think it's hardly the same suggests to me that you also think that statement is overused.

Devoted? I make single responses to your responses. You're defending your usage just as much as I'm attacking it, yet I'm the only one "devoted" to this argument?

I'm failing to have any kind of hype meter building for it somehow. No idea why, I'm just not excited about it. Think it may be Catwoman's dollar store Halloween ears. Her current outfit in the comics is fairly real world, they could have easily gone with that.

This trophy patch is like Kojima bent over the mothers of the trophy fans who've already played the game and forcibly raped them while making them watch. I have yet to play the game so I don't personally feel this way, I'm just saying.

Hello! New to this thread and just wanted to say thank you for it. It's extremely handy. Some stuff is already well-priced on the PSN. Other stuff is just absurd when compared to retail competition. Nothing can be done but to wait and watch this thread!
