Hahahah, I can't argue with that.

Anyone liking the expendables 2? I played the demo and did not find it very fun. Even at $12 I feel like that is too much. Anyone that purchased the game have any opinions? Does it get any better, or is it mostly more of the same?

I'm going to wait on the Expendables 2. Does not seem to be worth that much money even with the PS+ discount and a PSN PLay discount if I bought more of the games. I'll wait it out for a sale and then try the full game.

I bought Expendables 2 and have been playing on Hardcore. I'm mostly through Chapter 2 and it doesn't really get any better. It's kind of hard to tell when you're hitting things or not and where you're safe (I have died behind cover countless times). I've been sitting in the back with Caesar and killing things slowly to advance, but for some reason his grenades don't go anywhere close to where I want them to, so it's kind of weird. Yang's smg has no range, Gunner's sniper rifle takes too long to shoot and you can't really even see the red line before you get hit and lose it, and Barney just runs out of ammo too fast (plus I can't even tell what his range is, but I assume it's pretty good). Bleh.

Not really a game to recommend to anyone...

I can't really be mad but you are right, they are getting the better games. I would be happy if they just brought in Motorstorm Apocalypse to the US store.

Yeah, and the euros are probably whining they don't get Warhammer, JC2, sideways, etc. It's all relative as Einstein says.

I too am not pissed at all. I already have DS2 Limited Edition with Extraction included, so no big deal at all to me. However, that MAY be a good sign that we're gonna get a couple retail games as well.
Too busy winning Olympics to be pissed
Haha I laughed at that. Was a great night for USA last night.
Yeah, and the euros are probably whining they don't get Warhammer, JC2, sideways, etc. It's all relative as Einstein says.
This exactly. I already have Darksiders and played it to death, whereas I didn't have JC2 or Warhammer for PS3, and I couldn't care less about that Motocross racing game. To me USA has had a better shake of things so far.

I know. It was my fault I missed out on the atlus PSP sale. I procastinated too much because I was waiting:
1. to get my PSP Go.
2. in the foolish hope that my langers $10 PSN card would show up.

I'll live with my regret.

I prefer the PSN games to the retail games so I'm fine.

So Soundscapes is comin with a platinum trophy and you get both versions of the game for the same price. This just went from a wait til a 50% off sale to a pre-order.

Also, the PayDay DLC comes out next week too, sweeeet.

What PayDay DLC? Is it the Left4Dead crossover one?

i got expendables and I think its a blast. sure the guys suck on hardcore when they arent upgraded, their weapons get much better after a few missions. the game is meant to be hectic and designed for coop. if you play by yourself you probably wont have as much fun.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/01/payday-the-heist-wolfpack-dlc-on-psn-next-week/

Attention PAYDAY crew! Wolfpack, the first PSN downloadable content for PAYDAY: The Heist, is coming to North America next Tuesday, August 7th.

We’ve been busy casing some new jobs for you, with Wolfpack featuring two never-before-seen epic heists – Undercover and Counterfeit. The Undercover heist forces players to drive away the pesky police interrupting a back alley deal, while the Counterfeit heist pressures players to use silenced weapons to keep whistle-blowing civilians from escaping an underground money printing gig. If they tell the 5-0, they’ll blow the whole operation!

We’re also arming you with new weapons and crewmembers to ensure the job goes smoothly. These new heists require advanced skills, but award bigger payouts. Key features of the Wolfpack DLC include:

New Weapons: Spray some lead on the move with the all-new auto handgun and assault rifle, or blow away tenacious foes with the shiny new grenade launcher. Need someone to watch your back? Release the deployable sentry gun to take out your enemies.

The Technician: Based on the character Wolf, the technician is a man who knows how to get things done. With a new skill set and equipment, the technician is a techno-sociopath using the sentry-gun and tool kit.

One Pays, All Play: Got friends in high places? If you are tight on cash until the next score, all you need is a friend with the content. The new heists can only be hosted if you own the DLC, but anyone with the base game can join for free.

Just When You Think You’re Out: With all-new Trophies and a raised level cap, there will be a lot more for you to brag about.

The Wolfpack DLC pack will be available in the US for $9.99. Check out the PAYDAY The Heist website for more info.

Thanks again for your support; looking forward to the in-game action!

Fellows! We’ve are absolutely gagging here to get Sound Shapes into your hands. Gagging! We wish it could be in your hands right now! But unfortunately that can’t be, as this week saw the release of The Expendables 2 as part of the PSN Play promotion, not us. However! If you’re popping into PlayStation Store to pick it up at any point this week you can also pre-order Sound Shapes and get an exclusive PS3 theme. That’s not to forget PSN Play’s money-saving promotion: the more games you pick up, the more money you save. So if you’ve already picked up The Expendables 2, you’ll get a cool three bucks back if you pick up Sound Shapes.

But enough of that waffle. Because we’re excited to get Sound Shapes into your hands, we wanted to kick start your imaginations by having one of our founders, Jonathan Mak, walk you through level creation using our level tools. And if you’re the kind of player who is more excited to *play* than create (and that’s fine, too) we’re revealing our Trophy mode. And yes, there is a Platinum.

So, until this point we’ve been showing you lots of different parts of our campaign mode. Just to recap: we’re providing five different albums with several tracks each, with each album including art and music from a different pair of artists, such as deadmau5 and Pixeljam or Pyramid Attack and Beck. Beating these levels will unlock their components, and then you’ll be able to mix and match them in your own levels!

In the following video, for example, Jon quickly puts together a level that (among other things) includes deadmau5 loops paired with Jim Guthrie/Superbrothers hazards, and he throws in some vocals that you might remember from our recent reveal of the Beck album Cities. He even shows off the player’s ability to record timings and change beats per minute… and it all sounds (and plays!) pretty good:

We’ve tried to make creating a song and level as fun as possible, but also effortless to upload and share. We’ve said this before, but seeing what players do with our tools is one of the things we’re *most* looking forward to. We’re certain that, after a couple of days, you’re going to blow away what Jon did here.

Something that we think (hope?) is going to take you more than a matter of days, however, is claiming our Platinum Trophy. If you’re a Trophy hunter, you’re probably well aware of the pain and glory of trying to conquer the intense Trophy levels in our pal Shawn McGrath’s new PSN exclusive Dyad. Here at Queasy Games, we didn’t want players to be distracted by playing albums in a certain way for Trophies, or trying to “game” our community. Instead we created two things: Death Mode and Beat School.

Death Mode is an unusual twist in our campaign mode. Once you’ve beaten our albums, you can flip each album over to a b-side and experience intense, single-screen timed challenges to collect notes without dying based on signature moments from each of the album’s tracks. Each win unlocks a Trophy, and it’s our hope that these will test the skills players have learned in our levels, making each Trophy win hard fought but deeply rewarding. Beat School is a different sort of challenge: here we challenge all players, even (if not especially) those who consider themselves “non musical,” to create beats on a single screen by listening and matching to a beat we have created. With luck, these levels will challenge and inspire you to go into the editor and make your own beats—if Jon’s video above hasn’t already convinced you.

Don’t forget: Sound Shapes hits PS3 and PS Vita as a cross-play title August 7th, but you can pre-order it now, receiving a lovely Cory Schmitz-designed PS3 theme and the ability to play the game on PS3 or PS Vita no matter which system you buy it on. You get both versions for one price! It’s $14.99 (20% off for a limited time for PS Plus members). And oh yeah, the Trophies are shared between both versions, too. Did we mention there’s a Platinum?
And if you didn't see the link I posted earlier, this is a preview of the theme you get for pre-ordering Sound Shapes:

I think there are two separate DLC packs and we aren't getting the one with the L4D crossover level.

I must be confused because the PC version of PayDay got the L4D crossover, I believe. I didn't even know about the one Frisky posted. Pretty cool.

FriskyTanuki,

thanks for this great thread! ^__^

i recently got heavy rain directors cut from amazon and it came with a 30-day psn trial.

does anyone know if the 30 day begins once you enter the code or does it begin
30 days from the email from amazon (mine says it expires 8/30)?

really appreciate any help on this.

It starts from the time you enter the code to PSN. The code can't be redeemed without auto-renewal turned on and a credit card saved on your PSN account. You can cancel the auto-renewal immediately after the code is redeemed and still have 30 days of PS+. Account Management -> Transaction Management -> Services List -> Playstation Plus is where you would find those options.

Yeah, i was really disappointed in the demo. I think this type of game has a lot of potential, but this one is poorly executed. I'd really be interested in a solid, well done isometric action game with RPG elements. Renegade ops was a decent attempt, better than expendables, but it's also vehicle based.

I'd like to see something with both on foot and vehicles, tons of funky weapons, upgrades and skills and with decent AI and cover system.

So the PSASBR is official. Early access for PS+ folks.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/02/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-public-beta-this-fall/

Hey everyone! Last week, SuperBot Entertainment and PlayStation invited a small group of players to get a hands-on preview of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as part of our early development beta. We’re beginning to test our servers and connectivity issues and this is just the beginning as we work toward rolling out a public beta to the entire PlayStation nation this Fall. As part of this exclusive access, players were able to take control of characters such as Kratos, Sweet Tooth, PaRappa the Rapper, Colonel Radec, Sly Cooper, and Fat Princess and battle in environments such as Dreamscape, Metropolis, Sandover Village, and Hades. The feedback we’re receiving from beta testers has been highly encouraging and valuable, helping us craft the best online multiplayer fighting experience possible.
In addition, there was an unexpected and unintended leak in our beta that allowed fans to be able to see some additional content. We’ve enjoyed reading all of the fan reaction and are thrilled that so many of you are excited to learn more about our character roster and level mash-ups, however we are still in development and the leaked content does not fully represent the final product nor the incredible efforts that were made to make these elements truly spectacular. This will be evident in the coming weeks as this content is officially revealed, beginning with our next character announcement at Gamescom in a couple of weeks.
While just a small group now, in the coming weeks we will continue to send out batches of codes as we gradually expand the beta; so keep your eyes open. You just might receive an invitation to join! Keep checking back with the blog for more information around the public beta, starting with early access to PlayStation Plus members.
If you’re having this much fun with the game now, we think you’re going to be thrilled with all the great stuff coming in the final product!

How much do the $9.99 PS2 games usually go on sale for? I tried searching for past sales but got nothing. If it's only a couple a bucks off I was gonna go ahead and pick up War of the Monsters now instead of waiting.

I don't think any of them have ever been on sale. Lowest they would probably drop is $5. I'd buy now if I were you.

Yeah I figured they would do a $6.99 or7.99 sale for non-PS+ and $4.99 for PS+. But if we haven't even seen a PS2 sale before then I'm definitely picking it up.

Just got this in my inbox about Way of the Samurai 4's release date and price:
XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, is pleased to announce today that the open-world action title, Way of the Samurai 4, will be released in North America as a digital download on PlayStation®Network on August 21 at a price of $39.99, exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The latest entry in the popular long-running series, Way of the Samurai 4 takes players on a journey through post-isolationist Japan, allowing them to choose an allegiance in the midst of an ongoing power struggle between three competing factions. Fans can check out the game’s all-new website at: www.wayofthesamurai4.com

Set in post-isolationist Japan, Way of the Samurai 4 offers a unique way to experience an era that forever changed a nation. The era’s cultural landscape offers countless opportunities for the ambitious, and players are thrown into this world as a rōnin (masterless samurai) looking to make a name for himself. Taking their place in the overall power struggle, players will be given the choice to align themselves with one of three factions: the shogunate pro-governmental forces, the nationalistic isolationists and the growing foreign powers, and their loyalty and interaction with each of the three factions will shape the story towards one of ten possible different endings.

Offering an unprecedented range of customization, Way of the Samurai 4 allows players to create their own samurai however they see fit. Nothing, from the most historically-accurate robes to more modern designs to the downright bizarre, is out of reach. Once set loose in the world, players are free to do as they wish, whether it be accepting missions to further the game’s story, shopping for new items and weapons or challenging other samurai in battle. A unique online feature allows the uploading and downloading of player characters to roam in other players’ games as a computer-controlled assassin to challenge and defeat in order to receive that character’s equipped spoils. The original Japanese voice-overs have been left intact, heightening realism, and will be accompanied by English sub-titles.

Developed by ACQUIRE and published by Spike in Japan, Way of the Samurai 4 will be released in North America by XSEED Games on August 21 on the PlayStation 3 system as a digital release on the PlayStation®Store. More information is available at the newly launched product website at www.wayofthesamurai4.com

Uh, I'm sorry this is my first Transformers game this generation but are any others as badass as this demo? That was an awesome demo, over the shoulder, 3rd person, high action. Definitely on my radar.

War for Cybertron is supposedly pretty good, though I haven't played much of it. I played most of the most recent one (Dark of the Moon, I think) and it got boring kinda quickly.

War For Cybertron is supposedly a Gears clone. If you're a spray and pray player when playing a shooting game, then you'll be using the melee attacks OFTEN, since the ammo drops are few and far between.

Not to mention nine times outta ten you're fighting clones of generic Transformers in each level. It's really quite boring fighting the same clones of some look alike TF's repeatedly.

War for Cybertron was great and, as a Transformers fan, I enjoyed it far more than Gears of War.

I can't recommend any other Transformers games aside from War though, since most are passable - at best.

Fall of Cybertron is going to be off the charts, based on that demo alone.

dark of the moon sucked, but war for cybertron was awesome. war for cybertron also 4x xp still i think. awesome. fall of cybertron should be killer also, hopefully.
i only played the multiplayer tho, like battlefield with class/vehicles and special perks, it was real cool.

About to buy Tactics Ogre (Finally), watch it go on sale next week.....

Also, that PayDay DLC is a pretty awesome idea. Kind of like gamesharing to the next level, i might have to redownload it. Barely played it much yet
