That's certainly true, as creating the 'great launch title' seems to have died with the previous console generation. Prior to that, we used to get great, unique launch titles. Mario 64 for the N64, Halo for the Xbox, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for the GameCube, Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast, Super Mario Bros for the NES, Tetris for the GameBoy, Atari had Pac-Man, and even Wii Sports for the Wii. I can go on, but I won't. So, I beg to differ, only recently have video game launch titles been subpar.

If any consoles needed standout launch games, it was the PS4 and Xbone. While they're more advanced than the previous consoles, it wasn't the all-out impressive technological leap from, say, the PS2 to PS3.
I think that is the problem, they thought they didn't need a standout title because the previous gen had been so long that there was a real hunger for a next gen console. So people bought them in abundance even if the best titles available for it at launch were also on the previous gens.

Yeah, i mean, GWG gives me games that I can buy for .99 to $5 at game stop. Love me those retail releases.

Seriously, its dumb. A game is a game. I don't care if its retail or an indie game. These are great games we are getting. Its silly because to you its only a better deal if its a game that was released in a box.
Very few indies have i enjoyed on PS+. Binding of Isaac should be good and outlast was good.

That's about it honestly. Not that I've enjoyed a crap ton of the GWG, but I liked super time force better than any of them

I think it's funny that ever since the EA Vault was announced and Sony said it wasn't a good value, the Vault has gotten better and PS Plus has gotten worse.

I know the valuation for both is highly subjective.
Would you mind expanding on this because I'm curious as to why EA Access is better than PS+ for you?

EA Access is such a weird service because paying $30 to access the games available right now is pretty good, but $30 for the next year's worth of additions is a really bad value. First, they've got nothing left to add right now except for NBA Live 14, which probably won't happen because they want to convince people to buy the new game and not feed them last year's terrible game that would surely cause them to run away from NBA Live 15.

Dragon Age Inquisition's not going on there any time soon. When will we see Madden 15, FIFA 15, or NHL 15 on there? Not until maybe spring next year at the earliest, so the future prospects of the service are bleak and not at all worth the investment when EA's set no standards for what to expect out of it. The major issue with EA Access for me is that it's a single publisher service with a huge lack of variety, surprises, and sales that is good for a month or two to play a bunch of games for $5/month and not for the long term unless you just don't give a fuck about the money. I guess it's a better value than straight up buying any EA game on Xbox One because they're almost guaranteed to come to EA Access at some point, though when is the million dollar question. I'd love to see their sub numbers next September when the first year is up.

The world would be a boring place if we all had the same opinion. The packaging has nothing to do with it. I just prefer games that have bigger budgets and provide more in depth experiences with graphics, sound, etc. I completely understand that some people love indie and smaller games as much or more than retail releases, but personally, I find something like Binary Domain and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen much more appealing than Luftrousers and Frozen Synapse.
Why choose when you can have both?

I also have to say that mentioning Binary Domain and Dragon's Dogma as big budget games is kind of funny to me because I can't imagine those two games are anywhere close to real big budget games out there. They come off as B-tier games in terms of budgets to me. Binary Domain is crazy awesome, though I wish it didn't run like shit on PS3.

I never said EA Access is better than PS Plus. I just meant that I find it funny that Sony stated the reason they weren't allowing EA Access was that they didn't feel it was a good value. Since then, the PS Plus quality has arguably declined while the EA Access quality has arguably increased. I still think PS Plus is a good value and overall a better value that EA Access and is likely to remain that way for awhile for reasons you mentioned. My point is that if Sony is so concerned with offering "value" to their customers, why would they block something like this and then also decrease the quality of their own offering. Again, I know that quality is subjective and (in this case) based on a preference of non-indies.

I chose Binary Domain and Dragon's Dogma simply because they were the PS3 PS Plus games for November 2013 to make a point on the difference in perceived value for those who prefer bigger budget titles. Yes, they are mid-tier games, but certainly bigger budget than Luftrausers and Frozen Synapse.

fuck am I gonna buy? Driveclub? Knack? Infamous looks nice but the main character looks like an emo douchebag. I don't like baseball so The Show is out. I own Killzone but I'm in no rush to play it. The Last Of Us will probably be my only purchase if its on sale for Black Friday.
I'd give Infamous a try. I was prepared to hate Delsin after seeing the previews, but he's actually an interesting, engaging character.

Okay, then can you explain why you think EA Access has gotten better? Is it just because there are more games in the vault than when it started or is it something else that I'm missing? You come off as playing Devil's Advocate after the bolded sentence here if you don't actually think EA Access is better than PS+, as your previous post suggested.

I think I explained why Sony denied the EA Access service pretty well in that their idea was nice in the short-term, but pretty bad as a long term value. It seems like EA wants to greatly devalue their games and shorten their relevance by making it so that on Xbox One, you either buy the game at launch or wait for it to arrive on EA Access with little reason to bother with the middle road when a sale comes around unless you're impatient. Sony probably doesn't want to encourage other publishers to start doing their own EA Access-style service so that the end user that has no allegiance would have to pay $50+$30X to get all of the possible free games that you would've gotten before instead of the simple $50 it costs for PS+. If EA stops offering their games on PS+ as a result, that's their loss to miss out on that potential additional PS+ revenue because they want all of the potential revenue they can get funneled through EA Access.

I don't personally think PS+ has declined at all lately, but I don't put more value in one particular type of game than others so I just care about getting more great games each month and even then, the service's worth for me is in the great deals whose savings offset the cost of the service fairly quickly. The games don't have to be lights out every month to be worth the $50 a year for me.

This. Thought he would grate on my nerves but I actually grew to like the kid. Might even finish the game one day...

Wow, PS+ not a single retail game?

I guess that's fine as November is so damned stacked. No way I'd get to any of the games anyways.

I think it would be kind of dumb for Sony to offer a bunch of last gen retail games on PS+ in the month of November because the vast majority of consumers are going to be distracted by all the new retail releases to even care. Instead, we are being offered a great complement to all the AAA stuff with this month's PS+ games. I like a balanced menu of PS+ games as much as the next guy, but the PS3 is being slowly phased out and this change should come as a surprise to no one.

I knew this would happen.  When they announced + would be required to play PS4 online, I said the free games would get much less impressive.  It might have taken a while, but boy do I hate being right.

Why is the free game list for ps+ so weak for November? Trying to save for holiday sales?
It's not just November that's weak. It's been weak for the past few months. At least half or more people above have expressed their disappointment with some of the latest Plus offerings. A few others don't mind.

Call me crazy but i think the fault of PS+ getting worse is because of PSNow and Share Play, Because they need money for all those servers streaming those games.

The real problem this month is that we're now into the peak shopping season. Sony is going to sell most of their year subs in the next three months and will almost certainly continue to use them as a loss leader on BF for attachment. So last year Oct/Nov/Dec ramped up instead of tailed off.

For comparison here's 2013 compared to 2014 for those months:

October 2013
KoA Reckoning
Shadow of the Colossus
Hotline Miami
Sine Mora
Poker Night 2

October 2014
Dust
Spelunky
Batman AA
Chronicles of Mystara
Rainbow Moon
Pix the Cat

November 2013
Resogun
Contrast
Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen
Binary Domain
Ibb & Obb
Soul Sacrifice
Stranger's Wrath

November 2014
Binding of Isaac (only one that's actually confirmed)
Luftrausers
Steamworld Dig
frozen Synapse
Hungry Horse
Escape Plan

December 2013
Borderlands 2
GRID2
Days
Sonic Allstars Racing Transformed
Urban Trials

Plus remember that IGC was still a thing last year so even if you got a sub for Christmas you still got almost all those titles plus the evergreens. I like the indie games as opposed to PSP fighting games, and that they're often cross buy, but last year clearly is a lot more impactful.

Another great month me. I can't wait to play The Binding of Isaac, Escape Plan, Luftrausers and play Steamworld Dig again. Also I'm assuming that the PS+ edition of Driveclub will finally come out sometime later this month so that'll be another I want to play.

PS3
Luftrousers
Frozen Synapse

I have never even heard of these two games. I miss when PS+ used to have good months.
Both have had a fair amount of time in the spotlight within gamer culture. Luftrausers was only a few months back and got a lot of attention within this thread and on other sites. Frozen Synapse is a couple years old on PC but a really excellent and unique take on turn based strategy. They have a sort of football like game in the works using the same formula which looks quite fun too.

Is there going to be a third week to this Sale of the Dead? What's the possibility of War of the Monsters being on sale? Anyone know it's sale history?

My reference to both services is based on the expectations people had for them. Many didn't expect EA Access to add games so soon (since EA indicated that they would not be adding much to the vault any time soon when it was released) but they have added to it (Need for Speed Rivals and PVZ) and people are warming up to the service. During the same time period, many have cooled towards PS Plus because of a perception of lesser value in their more recent freebies. I was only pointing out the juxtaposition of the two services and how public perception might be changing in opposite directions toward each.

To clarify what I've already said, there is no doubt that PS Plus remains a great value. To me and many others here, the value i'm getting out of it has just lessened in recent months and many (including me) are concerned that the value may continue to decline since Sony has less incentive to make the service as desirable as it once was. Again, value and quality are subjective and i'm happy that others are enjoying some of the smaller games that I may not appreciate as much.

Lastly, I understand why Sony doesn't want to devalue its own PS Plus service by letting publishers usurp it, but since the cat is out of the bag on Xbox with EA Access, they are now likely only hindering potential value that some might get out of the service. I'm not sure why you are defending Sony with the value statement. It may be that Sony and Microsoft were just offering an unreasonably low amount of money to companies like EA for their games, so EA sought another route. I don't want to pay a subscription for every publisher out there, but if Sony is not going to offer those bigger titles with Plus anymore, why shouldn't EA offer them. There's a lot of behind the scenes issues with all of this, so I don't think any of us on the outside can form any valid opinion.

Sorry to everyone for going on so long. EA Access good. PS Plus good. I'll stop now.

I checked out some videos and Luftrausers seems pretty fun but Frozen Synapse just isn't catching my attention at all.

There's a lot of people (me included) who would rather have an older retail game than a newer indie title. There's no doubt that PS Plus is still a good value (and now almost a necessity with PS4), but there's also no doubt that retail releases are heavily trailing off for PS Plus. For those of us who prefer retail, GWG might start looking better if Microsoft continues to release retail stuff (older or not) and Sony doesn't.
I don't understand this thinking, I would much rather have a downloadable title free than an old retail game for the simple fact that there are several ways to obtain an old retail game on the cheap, whether you get it off ebay or Amazon or at GameStop or on Craigslist you can find an old game for next to nothing or you can rent from GameFly. Now take a brand new released digital only title, if the price is set at $20, you either pay that or wait for it to go on sale whenever that may be. Now I'm not saying make the service entirely downloadables, I'm just saying that I don't get the disdain toward them.

The best part of Frozen Synapse is the soundtrack. The game play overall is not very good. It is unique and it's presentation is very good and mechanics are very complex. This game really only appeals to a niche strategy crowd.

Yes. You get 10 episodes. Plays like Resident Evil 4! Although with less weapons at your disposal!
Does it really play like Resident Evil 4? Most games that do like Dead Space or Deadly Premonition have been compared favorably to it. I've never heard anyone say anything like that about Siren.

Guys, is The Walking Dead Season 1 really that good? It looks like the gameplay resembles something like Heavy Rain. Is that it? Don't you get to actually shoot a zombie or something like that?

You do some shooting and action although it's toned down a little as the episodes progress. The first season is very good but I can see how others would think it's not as good as the hype at this point.

Is the Walking Dead Pinball table crossbuy at all? I know the older tables were. I bought the table on PS4 but it did not give me the Vita or PS3 versions. Did I buy the wrong version? If I bought it on Vita would I have gotten it free for PS3 and PS4?? Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT:

So I just bought the Vita version since it was only $1.50 and it gave me the PS3 version as well. I will consider this a lesson learned for any future tables. Buy Vita/PS3 and don't buy PS4.

Its a great game but its more like you are participating in an episode of the show. Watch the trailer, if you like watching the show or have read any of the comics you should give it a shot.

If you want to try it you can always try the first episode for free on any iOS device.

Yeah you did it wrong. It's importable to PS4 but not the other way. It's really convoluted and stupid.

It's a story driven game that moves you along with intense situation and tough decision making. Much like Heavy Rain with comic style graphic (deep character development that you'll quickly forget the cartoonish look). Many actions are quick time. Shooting are minimal and combat control aren't that good. If you're in for zombie shooting, this is not for you. However, if you like Heavy Rain or heavy on deep choice-making story and don't mind quick time and lack of shooting, this is a VERY GOOD GAME. Btw, one thing that annoyed me a bit is almost every end of the chapter there is some slow down and hiccups. I got the physical copy. I don't know about the digital version or they ever fix it. It's not that big of deal.

It's a point and click adventure game with some mild action segments. It's fun if you like that sort of thing.

Indeed. At least I only lost $1.50 and I learned a lesson, so overall I am OK with it/ It's not worth wasting 10 minutes on the phone with Sony over 1.50
I made the same mistake, no biggie. Maybe at some point in the future Zen Studios will enable imports across all Sony platforms.

The Walking Dead is entertaining since you can get sucked in the storyline and you can do multiple play through if you wanted to try out all the possible answers.

It's a different take on zombie apocalypses that isn't about killing as much zombies as possible :twoguns: . It's about decision and actions followed by resulting consequences. I enjoyed it a lot but I can only do an episode at a time which takes about an average 2 hours per episode.

Playing the game also informed me if there was ever a zombie apocalypse don't leave me in charge...I'll get you all killed  :whistle2:$

I still have the last episode and the bonus episode to go through before continuing on to season 2.
