I should have guessed posting that I was unhappy in the PS4 thread about my PS4 would just upset the regulars. My initial criticisms stand, poor UI, limited day 1 release support (with a mediocre exclusive), lack of bluetooth support, no home networking support. 

I'll comment on the XB1 when I've had the opportunity to compare it's Day 1 features.

Whoa. I'm a thirty something with advanced degrees, kids, and a stay at home wife. I spend a lot of time thinking about bills, believe me.

I don't see the present day value in paying for semi-functional voice and motion controls. They may be the future, but the One will be on the market in the future, too. NOW I want to play games. We already use a couple Apple TV's to serve content. We can flush the streaming boxes and get a One after the kinks are ironed out and they drop the price by $100.

And by the time Kinect works as advertised there may be other, better voice control and motion control options. Why pay for something that may be the future when you can, you know, buy the real deal when the future becomes the present?

PS4 also offers a family friendly feature that's important to me and unavailable from the One at present--second screen gameplay. Vita Remote Play works flawlessly. Smart Glass won't be a competitor unless or until it works with physical controllers. Wii U has the feature but is unlikely to offer the gameplay experiences I'm looking for. This is a present day value proposition that carries a lot more weight with me than potential future improvements to Kinect.

Because I added my thoughts to a conversation that was already underway and got attacked. When I'm attacked I respond in kind. It's simple. Go back to my initial comment, it was nothing particular, just my own personal observations. Look at the last guy who called me a fucking idiot, saying this isn't the PS4 thread. The whole thread for the last few days is all discussion and few actual posts about the PSN deals. In fact this thread in general is just chit chat. So many people seem unable to use critical thinking and reasoning before attacking someone else.

It's not unreasonable to want to have a balanced discussion, but did you think you'd win people over by saying your PS4 would be sold by Christmas, lol? Seemed purposely incendiary.

 
But don't you still have to have the set-top box for Xbox one's TV features (as well as subscribe to xbox live)? it's an HDMI-in port not a coaxial-in port. If they had offered their own paid television service over the internet to compete with local cable providers THAT would have been something quite interesting.

Agreed, but I get tired of being attacked by anonymous idiots, and I'm not looking for your approval in this matter, but thanks for letting me know how you feel.

@FIF made some good points and I appreciate the actual thoughtful responses he made. But I will point out one thing and that is the fact that MS has gone all in when it comes to Voice/Motion and that may produce some gold. So if I was buying a single console today I would have to remain open minded. Most games are x-platform and I don't really want to fragment my online experience too much, so maybe the XBOX and the stated goals of MS make it the better investment for a all around entertainment experience.

I'd prefer not to dismiss their efforts yet until something actually fails to work as advertised.

And p.s I love the Roku

Agreed, maybe it did. My full comment should have been I will most likely sell my PS4 at a profit before christmas and rebuy it later on. I won't actually make that decision until I've had some time with XB, and if XB is a dog I will be selling that before xmas instead.

I do have a PSN ID, but I don't play online so never bothered updating my profile. I have a PS3/PS4/PSP & Vita if that dispels anyones opinion that I'm a sony hater (I also have a Sony BluRay and TV)

If you haven't ever played it (and it doesn't look like you have unless it's in your PS+ backlog) $13.39 is a good price on Demon's Souls, multiplayer servers are still up too and if you keep your soul level down around 40-80 you should still be able to find some summoning partners/invaders.

I can use my PC as a DVR, ota tuner, video streamer, music streamer, blu-ray player and more so while you make some good points in your discussion of the PS4 and XB1 I think you might be short-changing the PC a bit.

This - I had an X1 preordered until I found out it had no DVR functions. I love the idea of it being a multimedia hub, it's just missing everything I want in a multimedia hub right now (dvr, free access to video streaming apps) and has a number of things I don't want (voice, visual input).

Like Eldritch I'm actually a fan of MS's current design philosophy (and I enjoyed the Zune era designs too). I'm hoping that in some future iteration of X1 TV plays a larger role than an overlay on hdmi passthrough. I'd love to have a good reason to ditch tivo and $500 is reasonable compared to tivo + lifetime service. although I reckon $500 + $50/yr is a little tougher to swallow...

A number of Cable providers have apps, especially those that do IP TV. TimeWarner would be one of the biggest of those and Verizon can use the xbox as well.

Because a current PC will almost always be better than the current gen console. So few games are truly single platform exclusives, and pc game prices and cloud distribution are both superior on the pc.

Consoles are simple to use, but are never as powerful as a good PC.

I haven't kept up on PS deals, but is that Demon Souls price the cheapest it's been to date. I'm trying to find something to use my $10 promo on.

 
So just glossing over the whole console war thing that just happened, I just picked up a DS3 for the first time in days.  IT FEELS AWFUL AFTER HAVING USED THE DS4 SO MUCH.  You pick up the DS4 and immediately realize it's an improvement but you don't realize how much of one until you try to go back.

Ya, other than free. It was on sale for $14.99 in October on PSN. It has been a bit cheaper on disc in the past, $11.99 on amazon in April 2012, since then the lowest it has been is $15.

Totally agree. Was using both systems yesterday and the DS3 just feels like a cheap toy compared to the DS4. Can't believe Sony waited so long to redesign their console controller; that's one major reason I preferred the 360 between the two last gen systems. The 360 controller just feels much better/sturdier than the flimsy DS3.

Disgaea 1 was on sale a few weeks ago. Still wishing for the PSP titles to go on sale. Not sure why NIS never has any sales, I'd pick up D1, D2, Prinny 1, and Prinny 2 in a heartbeat. Probably ZHP as well.

I still kind of prefer the 360 controller at this point, its heavier and I prefer the staggered sticks and firmer triggers. But I've just started using the PS4, so that may change with time. No doubt though, the DS4 is a huge improvement!
 
So whats the word on PSN purchases migrating over to the PS4 in some fashion. I stopped buying DLC on all consoles due to compatibility but I'd love to give spelunky a spin.
