I'm starting to think I might be living on a different planet than most everyone else while reading the X1 reviews.  Not because I necessarily disagree or think they're full of it, but because I genuinely and actively don't care about most everything touted as an impressive feature.  Like in Engadget's review - they mention several times how amazing it is to say "Xbox On" and your Xbox turns on.  Or how nice the HDMI passthrough is because it's one less HDMI cable going in to the TV (it's taken me years to fill up 3 out of the 4 HDMI slots on my TV, but I know that doesn't apply to everyone here).  I have no use for Skype in my life.

All that said - SkyDrive + streaming media to the Xbox One = Oh I get why everyone was pissed about MP3/media playback on PS4 now.  Brilliant.

Any fix for the Sound Shapes cloud sync + PS4 trophy sync junk up yet?

I guess the TV menu is cool if you have cable, but I'll never have cable again. I also don't understand why you would want your Xbox on to watch TV, I don't like running my consoles when it's not necessary. Also the cable menu is "molasses slow" according to Gizmodo, so I would never be patient enough to use it anyway.

Kinect can be fun but mine has just been collecting dust since about 2 weeks after I bought it. Maybe if I had kids it would be used more.

Since I'm pretty pro-Sony at this point, I will say I'm glad Sony went the "video game console that can do other things" route and Microsoft went the "All in one home entertainment device" route and it wasn't the other way around.

No honestly I'm in the same boat. I don't give a crap about the "extra" features. I don't need them. To me the XBOX One looks like an extension of the 360 menu and Windows 8 which both look like a Sunday Flyer. I like the simpleness (but elegance) of the PS4 menu. At this point I just want to game on my console nothing else.

I had a sublime experience with the PS4 last night. I picked up NBA2K14 yesterday, put it in and it installed. It needs an update. Oh wait I can do something else why the download goes? I played Flower (finishing it) and by then the download was ready booted up and played some NBA. It's the simple stuff like this that I want and Sony delivered.

Not to ruin a good night but has anyone had freezing issues with NBA2K14? I booted it this morning to play a quick game and it started stuttering. I've had no issues with the PS4 or any games. I played 2 games of NBA last night and it was flawless. Checked the disc and all was fine. I'm guessing it could have just been a fluke but just curious if anyone has had similar issues?

Edit: The one thing I did notice this morning was that it asked me to update to 1.5.1 which I declined because I was rushed on time. Maybe that had something to do with it? I'll have to try it again tonight.

Wow...Tearaway with an 88 Metascore at the moment...with a total of 45 reviews submitted!  IGN says it is only five hours long though...but still gave it a 9.3.

For those like me who don't do much multiplayer The Last of Us single player DLC is up for pre-order. It nets you a dynamic Ellie theme and a digital copy of the comic (issue #1). Can't wait for this!

https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/addons/the-last-of-us-left-behind-pre-order/cid=UP9000-BCUS98174_00-THELASTOFUSDLC02
I sure hope people like me who purchased the Season Pass will also get that dynamic theme and digital comic. Left Behind is included in the Season Pass, but I can't pre-order it now without paying $15.

Poor Tearaway is just releasing against way too many other big hitters.
Totally. However, its only chance to make any impact sales-wise or to get much attention was to get high or very high review scores like it's getting so far, so hopefully it'll now sell enough to get some attention/future awesome games on Vita.

I'm right there with ya Tyler. My friends don't really get how my fat PS3 is still going strong.

Is there any more planned dlc for the Last of Us or is this it?
The single player DLC, Left Behind, releases at the beginning of 2014 and is the last DLC (multi or single player) that will come out for TLoU. According to Naughty Dog, anyway. Most likely they'll release more masks, hats, and other cosmetic items for multiplayer, though, if Uncharted 3 is any indication.

I absolutely loved TLoU and can't wait to play through Left Behind, but I'm even more excited for whatever PS4 game TLoU team is/will be working on, so they need to move all their resources over to it!

No freezing issurs for me but no coop GM mode makes me a sad panda.

So there's a demo for Tearaway that releases this Friday. You can purchase the full game through the demo, but Is there any possiblity the demo save will work with a retail copy? Has this happened with any other game?

Basically I'd like to play the demo and continue progress whenever my gamefly copy arrives.

Holy triple post, batspiderman. Yeah, I started seeing some of those Tearaway scores trickle in yesterday. Considering how short it is, it must be some amazing shit to garner this sort of reception. All my body is ready.

As far as the XB1 scores, I think much of the press enthusiasm centers around its "potential". Whether it's for you or not (and, currently, it isn't for me), it's pretty clear Microsoft is attempting to do something ambitious.  I think it's a bit short sighted to claim one company is "more focused on the gamer" simply because it has superior hardware (ironic considering PlayStation's lineage of "inferior" hardware).  Anyway, I'm loving this distinction between the consoles. I hope it pays off for everyone.

I honestly think if they could've stuck the landing on their 'all digital vision' instead of their fumbly ass ill-prepared quasi spill of the idea that it turned out to be (and eventually reversed) they would really be in a good, unique, differentiated position right now - almost like a different category of machine where you'd be picking a whole ecosystem preference instead of 'which one has more gpu teraflops'. shame really.

definitely picking up tearaway on friday.

Tearaway is so lovely but I just don't think I can pay MSRP for it with Zelda and Mario this week and both looking to be absolute gems.

I played NBA 2K last night for four or five hours and didn't have any problems. Then again you're having problems with everything that's working well for me.

Sort of related to the talk of having your console on when your not using it, is the PS4 designed to pretty much always be in standby mode? I'm already finding this would be most convenient for me (3 separate patches yesterday prevented me from turning on and jumping into the game I wanted- Killzone, CoD, and firmware 1.51), but I'm reluctant just because I want to extend the console's life. Any one have any input on that?

See I'm curious to see some real hard empirical data on this myself since I've heard it both ways (that it barely uses any power and that it uses almost as much as when on). Some engineering types will give us an understandable power and thermal breakdown soon enough I'm sure.

We need a tag function on CAG. So I could tag TooPoor here. Seems to be a pretty smart guy when it comes to this stuff.

About the only feature I could see using is the playing a game with a live sporting event in the corner, but I don't imagine I would want it hooked up all the time as I doubt their interface works as well as the stock cable box interface.

Also, Ryse reviews embargoed until the day before launch, LOL.

I'm right there with ya Tyler. My friends don't really get how my fat PS3 is still going strong.
Nice. Both my 360 and PS3 are from 2009 and are both still going strong. I honestly don't even like running Netflix through them (I used to run it through my much cheaper bluray player but now I have a smart TV) because I want them to be able to play games as long as possible.

Like Eldritch said, the data will probably be available eventually but I haven't heard much one way or the other. If I had a PS4 I would keep it off for now. Does it not have a similar thing that the PS3 has, where you can have it turn on automatically over night and download stuff then turn back off? I would much prefer that over a permanent standby mode.

I'm no fan boy, but I have to say the PS4 is so basic right now it's feels like a toaster that plays games. It really is not the multi media giant it should be. All that development that went into the PS3 dash is just gone. I keep looking for secret menus as I just cannot get over how empty it seems. And WTF is the deal with bluetooth support !! And did I mention how crap Sony "quitelimited" music is.

Yes, BF4 and NFS look fantastic, but I think they will look exactly the same on the XB1, but with all the other bells and whistles the XB1 is going to rule to airwaves of excitement.

I have both consoles, but I think the PS4 may be sold before christmas.

You are making me blush

I'm just in the industry nothing special, if we were to talk medicine then I would listen to Dr.cancerman word by word (I believe that is his field of research).

Are you guys talking about the hardware fatigue when it comes to sleep/standby mode? PS4 detailed architecture has not been leaked, but I can shed a few insight (since I'm waiting for my code to finish running anyway).

For modern systems, standby mode is achieved by either (1) clock gating or (2) power gating, along with architectural motions such as moving data from register/memory to HDD. The formal (clock gating) disables the system clock while the latter (power gating) cuts power to a certain part (e.g. CPU, GPU) of the chip. Power gating generally is better in terms of saving power, but it typically requires a longer wake up time. Clock gating is easier to implement and faster to wake up dormant logic, but even when the clock is gated and there is no switching activity in the transistors, static leakage current occurs, incurring unwanted power consumption and hardware fatigue (though much less than when the circuit is switching).

Power gating has enjoyed massive improvement in recent years both in academia and industry, so my guess is that PS4 uses mainly power gating in standby mode, this can further augmented later when some technicians measure the power consumption of the PS4 in standby mode. If that is case, you generally have nothing to worry about.

um, I keep mine in standby because I think the orange light looks nice and I'm too lazy to turn it on by hand for remote play. eep.

Better yet, when you get your electric bill your next month you'll have an idea of how much power it uses on standby.

Oh yeah, not a touch of fanboyism in this post at all.

Happy to report that the PS3 bluetooth keyboard works just fine with the PS4, just used it to spam out some friend requests to Link, Eldritch, krash and frisky.  Now I just need to get more games than NfS and Injustice, lol.  Heading out to see if I can exchange Knack for Lego Marvel now that Target has them in stock, watching some gameplay of it last night on streams kind of turned me off.

@stoned, I don't think the PS4 was ever billed as a multimedia device, but I've tried a bluetooth keyboard and headset with it and haven't had any issues so far.  Netflix, Amazon instant and Hulu give me the movies I need.  I do agree that it is a bit of a step back from the PS3 as far as multimedia goes, but I still have my PS3, so I'm not concerned.

If you want multimedia functions then by all means, get the Xbox One one as its more designed for that than gaming. PS4 will get updates as time goes on. Ps3 and Xbox 360 are totally different now then when they launched.

Which I promptly declined. ;)

I bought a PS4 to play games. Its crazy, i know.
Crazy talk, we don't play no stinkin' games 'round here. I just don't like the 360/Xone UI despite really being a big fan of Microsoft's overall current design philosophy.

Yeah it's odd, I played last night for a few hours and all worked fine. I know games glitch out sometimes so I'll try it again tonight and see how it fares. I have seen some other reports by google searching about the same thing and said it could be due to the servers since the game is online even when it's not being played online. If that's the case that's dumb.

I have a different take on the two consoles. Last generation the 360 was my favorite of the two, though I still liked the PS3 a lot for its exclusives, and all the great benefits of PS+. To me it was always worth owning both consoles from last gen, they both had their benefits and plenty of great exclusive games.

But Microsoft watered down the XB1 with a bunch of multimedia functions that I couldn't care less about. I never bought Kinect for the 360 and had no interest in motion controls (other than a few gun shooters for PS3 like HOTD). With the XB1 forcing Kinect on everyone, and focusing on all the TV remote and voice control stuff, I just lost all interest in it. Plus of course Microsoft's completely bungled E3 reveal, including the always-on DRM and no used game sales, really just sealed my opinion. I still don't trust Microsoft and believe that they will bring that stuff back in the future for the X1.

To me, the PS4 is first and foremost a gaming console, and that's really all I want in a console; the rest of the stuff is just fluff.

It feels incomplete to me, so sue me. I think you are all the fanbois. Try being objective it's an important skill in life.
Use case issue. Kotaku's XBox One review has me convinced that the One is a multimedia boxI don't need and that the Kinect is a boondoggle.

I'm sure the PS4 will round out a big over time ( and the One, too), but for the time being I'm really pleased with the Core Functionality of the PS4. I'll think more seriously about the one when the Kinect voice controls are a bit more responsive and false positives (feet for hands, pictures read as presence in room, folks passing by camera getting logged in) are addressed. I'd rather have a solid gaming machine that'll evolve into a better media box than a media box that needs some spit and polish before its a seemless gaming machine.

If it does, I haven't found it (I haven't really look too hard, either). I thought I read somewhere that it will do it once a day even if you have it powered off, but that didn't stop me from having to patch 2 games yesterday when I turned it on (unless both patches were released relatively soon before I booted up).

Last night I tried to play killzone with remote play and I couldn't get it to connect after multiple tries. When I went downstairs to investigate, I found that the system was turned on and it was downloading a patch. I gave up and went to bed, but I was wondering if remote play might not work while the system is downloading updates.

The thing that drove me nuts about using any game console as a multimedia hub is that you can't always get everything that you want. I much prefer my tiny quiet SSD HTPC that runs anything HBO Go, Amazon, Hulu (non-plus), and plays all file formats without any headaches.

Voice and Motion controls are the future, the only reason the PS4 camera is not in the box was to get a price edge over MS. You guys are just thinking like kids rather than someone who actually pays the bills. I don't want to pay for a set top box when I have a  system connected to my TV thats perfectly capable of doing the job. If the XB1 fails in the gaming department lets talk, but until then it is the more complete solution. And multiplayer is still superior on XB1, especially now that MS is matching PSN+'s free game program.

And now all we have left is exclusives, which both consoles have. If games are your only focus maybe you should be playing on PC.

So, because we don't agree with you we are just kids?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but stop being an asshole because people don't agree with you.

Nothing that Xbox Live has given away even comes close to what you get on PSN+ atm. That can change but I really doubt it.

Are we being punked right now? If that's the way you feel I'm not sure why you bought a PS4 to begin with. I look forward to you selling it and not posting here anymore.

Yeah, if Xbox One fits what you are looking for then by all means, you should get that. Doesn't mean you should bash people that don't want the same things you do, lol.
