I think I'm starting to sour on hotline miami a little. If I wanted to keep dying and replaying the same crap over and over I'd play Spelunky.
think of it like a shmup. its short, hard as fuck, and based around getting high scores. youre going to die a lot.

also, a general tip that will make the game 100% less frustrating: use the chameleon mask on every level once you unlock it. it cuts down the range that enemies will spot you at to like half or a third of what it is default.

Wow, I totally missed that! Those are both great games! Sine Mora looks fantastic on the Vita. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to get past the trash tunnel part.I was talking more about discounts though, especially for Halloween, there's so many PS1 games they could have a sale on! Resident Evils, Castlevanias, etc. Corpse Party and the sequel are great, just not much variety given the large pool to pull from.
Well, don't forget we just had that 50% off Atlas sale a week or two back. Not as good as the 75% off Atlas a few months back, bust respectable. But yeah, I do agree that there should have been more Vita-compatible horror titles in the sale. OTOH, don't forget that they often add more when the sales go live, so there's a reasonable expectation that we'll see more come Tuesday.

Might as well just pull a $36 bill out of your pocket and burn it. I refuse to spend more than $.99 on digital games because I can't loan those to my real life friends, of which I have hundreds. Have fun wasting your money on a digital file that's going to be completely worthless to you in 10-15 years.
Where do you get digital games on PSN for $0.99? :dunce:

Is it possible to purchase games you previously got for free from PS+?
Yes, but not until your sub ends. It's stupid as hell. You may be able to call Sony and order directly, but the web and console stores won't let you purchase. Or you could buy a key from a 3rd party and redeem the code on PSN, though I never seem to see good deals on PSN keys except for directly from Sony.

Auto-aim is your friend.
...what? How the hell do you use auto-aim?

I just got an email from Sony:

PS Plus exclusive: Destiny of Spirits beta

I have never heard of this game but it includes a code and "activate this code on your Playstation Vita System" and

As a PS Plus member you get first dibs on the Destiny of Spirits beta.
Destiny of Spirits™ players from around the world work cooperatively in turn-based action to battle fierce bosses to unlock an expansive virtual world.

So heads up to check your email if interested.

Unrelated based on some posts regarded the alien breed trilogy I decided to pick it up from this sale.
I also got this email. I have no interest in this game, so PM me if you want my code.

I think I'm starting to sour on hotline miami a little. If I wanted to keep dying and replaying the same crap over and over I'd play Spelunky.
Spelunky isn't the same thing over and over. It's different every time, though it does follow rules and there are worlds. This is part of what makes it such a great game. I usually hate games that make me play the same exact level over and over and over again. Mind you, I have not tried Hotline yet, so I'm not commenting on it.

It appears that Guacamelee! has been pushed back? It's no longer listed on http://uk.playstation.com/playstationplus/ even though it was last night. Tweeted Drinkbox and waiting for confirmation, though.
Oh wow. I really thought they would just give it out since they made the mistake of advertising it on their own site. Well, I guess it's a sign for EU PS+ members not to buy Guacamelee in the near future.

Oh, neat. I'll have to try this...curious as to whether it works with out-of-sight enemies made visible through dragging the screen around.
It does and it's extremely useful.

Yeah, I know the actual level layout is randomly generated, but after you've played the game enough everything is basically the same, just in a different location. Hotline Miami isn't randomly generated, but most of the enemies seem to have random patrol paths so you do still have to change your strategy a little bit at times. Still, to me, both of them are still too similar when playing over and over and it starts to feel grating.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying Hotline Miami though. Just not as much as I was now that it's getting tougher and sometimes the controls do let you down a bit. I'd say it's only about 25000x as good as Spelunky now though, not 40000x as I originally thought.

They don't even seem to have known about it until I tweeted them. They still haven't stated anything about the situation. I'll post it when they do.

PS4 System Software Update 1.50 Details
is approximately 300 MB[customspoiler='will include the following features']
Remote Play
Users will be able to access PS4 titles displayed on their living room TVs and play them on a PS Vita system over Wi-Fi networks by using PS4 Link (Depending on network environment or titles, remote play performance may vary outside of the home). We anticipate that most PS4 titles will be playable on the PS Vita system through Remote Play. The latest PS Vita system software version, to be released soon, will be required to use PS4 Link.

Second Screen
Users can use the PS4 Link application for the PS Vita system, and PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, to use these devices as second screens in supported titles. PlayStation App has the ability to enable users to interact with games with their mobiles devices. For example on The Playroom, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.

Record, take screenshots, and upload gameplay effortlessly
The PS4 system provides dedicated, “always on” video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the Share button on DualShock 4, take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game—the video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 system’s launch in North America, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, though users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Facebook and Twitter.

Broadcast and spectate gameplay
The PS4 system also enhances social spectating by enabling users to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to game fans around the globe, using Ustream and Twitch live internet streaming services (users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Ustream and Twitch). There are two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users. Second, users can spectate friends’ PS4 gameplay from PCs, and applications such as Ustream, Twitch, and browsers, which are installed on their mobile devices. These applications can be easily started up via PlayStation App, and users can also use these applications to post comments to gameplay broadcasts. Furthermore, users with PlayStation Camera can stream camera images and microphone sounds along with their live gameplay broadcast.

Play as you download
This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. The time it takes to begin playing will vary depending on game data size and network environments, and not all titles will support this feature When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.

Multi log-in
A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multiplayer game together on a single PS4 system.

Party (Voice chat)
By using the Mono Headset bundled with the PS4 system, users will be able to chat with up to eight friends enjoying different applications or games. Furthermore, users can use Party to chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems.

Face recognition and voice commands
Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DualShock 4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DualShock 4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features; please refer to PS4’s online manual for recognizable voice commands.

Background music player
Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here.

Online Multiplayer
PlayStation Plus members will be able to play PS4 titles online with other players via the network. PS Plus makes it easy for members to join available online multiplayer matches in a variety of ways, including the ability to easily join a game from a live stream broadcast or Party voice chats.

Blu-ray Disc and DVD player
Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents. When using for the first time, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature.
[/customspoiler]

Ok
Stupid question time.

Does anyone know if the 30 day plus goes by "day" or "hours"?

Example:
If I enter the code in on the first at 8pm, does the 30 days end at 1259pm on the 30th or 8pm on the 31st?

I hope I explained that ok.

Vita - touch screen on a bad guy.
I've been playing on Vita and square button auto locks on too, then you can you use the stick to move around lock-on.

I've enjoyed what I've played so far on Hotline but I don't think I've gotten better than a B+ score.

kotaku's review is fairly glowing, I wonder if it's one of those games that is mediocre but it's easy to overlook if you love the subject matter or genre.
Yeah I mean personally I'm sure I'll thoroughly enjoy it despite reviews just not sure I want to cave in and grab it at $40.

I've enjoyed what I've played so far on Hotline but I don't think I've gotten better than a B+ score.
mind blown. I had no idea square locked and found tapping frustrating since it requires leaving the sticks. I'll have to give HM another try ...

That PS4 streaming feature is actually pretty appealing. Now if they'll port Spelunky to PS4, with Daily Challenge, I'll have a reason to buy one. :) But... it needs to integrate with Spelunky Death Roulette, because that's primarily what I want to stream for. I'm not sure how SDR works. Maybe all you need is a twitch stream and you are good to go. Not sure.

Question: I'm considering getting a second Vita for my kids to use, especially one in particular who keeps wanting to take my Vita with him to a friends house. :| I would like to be able to install my Vita games to it, but of course he'll want to use his own PSN account. Is there a way to get my download/PS+ games onto the Vita, or will it require a re-purchase/2nd PS+ if we were to go that way?

if you want to use a different account, you will have to repurchase. Only one user account is allowed on the vita

You can have two Vitas per PSN account. Should work fine to download all the digital games to that other Vita if you do this. I can confirm that this works fine with PS3, but I have not actually done it with Vita.

No, I realize that. i meant if he wants to use his own PSN account on it for playing games. Can I download my games by logging in, then he logs in and plays the games (since I'm allowed to install the games on 2 Vitas)? Or perhaps by installing them by copying them from the PS3?

no. Only way your son can play your games on vita is if he plays under your account. Only one active user allowed on vita. I mean he can download it but when he tries to play on his account it will ask you for a license, which is associated with your account.

It won't work:

Will I be able to transfer a Ps vita game from my Ps3 to 2 seperate vitas that are using 2 different accounts.

No because games are tied to the account they are purchased on. But you could swap out physical games as long you have different game memory cards and format cartridge.

True, I think I remembered wrong but I always go to the X button for execute which gets me in trouble when there are more than one bad guys. I think I really need that Chameleon mask.
Yeah that happens to me sometimes too.

I wish the game did a better job of helping the player understand why their being detected. Sometimes it seems like I can get nice and close and go for an easy kill, and sometimes an enemy on the other side of the room facing the other way will detect me and blast me the second I creep out from behind the wall I'm hiding behind. Also, there could be a room with 4 guys in it standing right next to one another, and I fire a bullet an 2 of them would randomly come after me and the other two would say in place. Then the next time they'd all come after me, then the next time none, etc. Makes being hard stealthy when you don't understand exactly what is triggering the guards.

The chameleon mask sounds nice, I'm sure I'll use it a lot. I also like the frog one (I think) which extends the time you get between kills when racking up combos.

Same here. On one level, I would do the same thing and maybe a third of the time, some random guy would be there and shoot me. Unlike the Souls games, it doesn't seem like deaths are always your fault or maybe I just don't have a handle on the mechanics yet. I'm going to keep with it though because I do like the game, it's just way frustrating.

Tell him if he wants to play those games that you had already purchased under his own account he's going to have to earn the funds and purchase them himself. Lets see how quickly that will change his mind. Kids now a days. Spoil rotten I tell ya!

I'm really curious when reading reactions of Hotline Miami of who is actually using the lock-on targeting versus just straight dual-stick shooting and who is run-and-gunning through the levels versus being moving a measured, careful pace to take out enemies as stealthy as possible. I'd imagine that those sorts of things can change the experience a great deal, especially when first getting into the game.

Oh, neat. I'll have to try this...curious as to whether it works with out-of-sight enemies made visible through dragging the screen around.
That's the point of being able to drag the screen around. You see if any enemies around outside of your view and tap them to lock-on.

Ok
Stupid question time.

Does anyone know if the 30 day plus goes by "day" or "hours"?

Example:
If I enter the code in on the first at 8pm, does the 30 days end at 1259pm on the 30th or 8pm on the 31st?

I hope I explained that ok.
It'll end at the same time that it was entered. There will be a specific time listed on the games under its information (Triangle > Information) for when they expire.

What would third world problems with Hotline Miami be?
"What's a 'Hotline Miami'?"

Yeah that happens to me sometimes too.

If there wasn't a bit of randomness, then the encounters would be less exciting and less rewarding when you do pull off a perfect run on that level. If they all just moved on the same path, had the same exact reactions to what you did, and never veered off that course, it would just be a more of a tedious experience than what it felt like for me with the randomness. You have to be able to think on your feet to react and improvise for how things turn out.

It wasn't too hard for me to tell when I was too close to other guys to cause chain reactions when moving around or shooting dudes, as I just learned how the mechanics worked to know when I'm likely to cause a bunch of dudes to rush me and when I won't. There's nothing wrong with standing there for a few seconds, watching what's going on around you, and figure out a way to tackle the situation to see if that works or not. Your choice of weapons, masks, and routes around the level are definitely important for that stuff.

I'd have been super disappointed paying $15 for it considering it only cost $10.
I'd have been pissed if I spent $50 on Hotline Miami.

Completely unrelated to what you said, but it reminded me of a question I had about Hotline Miami. I keep unlocking weapons after every level. What does that mean? How do I get/use those weapons?

Have you noticed when you respawn into a level that the weapons in each place are randomly chosen? Every new weapon you unlock is thrown into that pool of potential weapons to spawn around the level, which means even more awesome tools at your disposal and potential change how you play the game when you come upon them. The samurai sword was a particular favorite of mine since it has a longer reach than the knife and looks badass in action.

Also, there are sometimes items around each level that can be used as weapons that you may not think could be used as such when you first see them. If you run by an oven that has a pot with boiling water on top, pick it up and you can the first attack throws the scalding hot water at the enemy to kill them before becoming a normal pot to knock enemies out.

I'm going to try again with this lock-on option. One of my biggest complaints, aside from the terrible noises the game makes, was that I could never shoot anyone with a gun because I couldn't aim.

Let's try it again.
