mini reviews --

Spyhunter -- picked this up on the cheap via amazon. i'm only a few missions in, but it's fun. if you could see past the budget of asphalt and still enjoy it, then you can see past the janky budgetness of this game as well.

It doesn't control quite as well as Asphalt, and if anything, is a bit jankier, but the weapons and mission objectives of the spyhunter universe make up for it imo. Each button is mapped to a different weapon, with different options for each position, and all upgradable.

All in all, i figured i was in for a fun budget experience and this delivered. Worth my $10.

Kickbeat -- demo. i hate rhythm games with a passion, and deleted this halfway through the first mission (post tutorial). that said, it seems very well put together if you like rhythm games.

About to crack into Dyad or Blood Dragon, not sure which yet. First ps3 game in... weeks. I think my mind has completely shifted over to vita love and ps4 anticipation. i didn't even bother looking at the gamefly thread.

Just wait for a year from now when you realize that you want to care about trophies again and you realize that you have to play all those games over again!
i keep trying this and failing. i was going to give up caring about trophies... and then last night i had a rubber band around my damn vita for 12 hours so i could circle strafe princesses in a game i kinda sorta didn't like in the first place.

it's that damn OCD... i want to feel like i 'beat' a game, even if i don't particularly like it. and what's worse, is i don't have OCD in other parts of my life (thankfully). Just with games.

I actually never noticed trophies until I joined CAG.

Since you guys keep talking and keep talking and keep talking about it, I checked mine. I have zero platinums and 2342 non-platinums (mostly bronze), must be like a tiny fraction of what you guys have.

Yeah I only have one platinum. I always liked xbox gamerpoints but I never got into trophies and I have no idea why

Well, I'm still going to go for trophies that I want to go for. For example, I'll most likely be platinuming Dark and Demon's Souls again, but this is to remove all temptation of going after trophies I don't want to go after. This is going to help me obliterate my game collection.
You're an inspiration to us all. Just today I realized that I hadn't reinstalled LBP after upgrading my ps3 drive. I downloaded it today and remembered that I was boosting the Creator trophy (need a bunch of author and level hearts). Then I realized how close I was to platinum on it. Then I realized that last inch was going to be a nightmare (including somehow coordinating 4 people to get the last couple prize balloons). Then I read this and thought that maybe you're on to something. Plus I can come up with a new name which would be super fun.

Then one day you go back and play something that you've already platted on your first account and you get that bronze trophy and it all starts over again realizing that now you can get twice as many trophies and will have to beat what you got on your first account!

Haha, yeah, it was actually playing Zombie Tycoon II that made me realize I'm spending far, far, far too much time with games I barely like when I have gems like The Last Of Us sitting in the backlog. I'm not actually giving up trophies completely, I guess I'm just giving up the "need" for them.

For people with Vitas and have tried using multiple accounts with them, can you assign an account to a memory card and then easily switch between them? The reason I ask is because of all my PSP/PS1 games associated with my gettinmoney662 name. I'm hoping I can do that and then whenever I feel the need to play a PSP game, I can just pop in the other memory card and be good to go.

I guess my other option is just to use my old PSP to play them. Does the OLED screen help make PSP games look better or do they actually look better on the PSP? Sorry for all the basic questions.

No, it's the most awful thing ever. The system has to be reformatted to factory settings each time you want to use a different account. Honestly I would buy a new Vita before I ever tried that again.

Even swapping memory cards on the same account is a horrible sad experience all of the icons get reset and it is just not a fan of doing any of that swappy flippity floop. Its just gross

Yeah, and I can understand why they did it when the PSP was just piracy central but it's really a big fuck you to consumers who would legitimately was to use the system that way.  It's why I gave up trying to have two 16GB cards and returned them for a 32GB.

A counter argument to the LCD vs. OLED debate:

That makes the LCD look better, so it may depend on the game. Or maybe it depends on the bias of the person taking the picture. ;)

Yes, I see the glare, thus bias, but the LCD pic looks great. Color is sharp.

This was posted in another thread:

Color value differences are much more apparent.

Yeah, I guess I'll just play them on my PSP then. The good news is that I can get a giant memory card for it for cheap.

Youtube has lots of comparison videos. Here's one from 1Up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w4t1ef7ETg

The Vita runs PSP games at twice their native resolution, so 3D looks pretty good, but 2D stuff can look a little pixelated (note the title screen to Mega Man X). But once they get into the level, the Vita clearly has a brighter screen with better color values. The few PSP games I've played on it have all looked phenomenal, I'd definitely say they look better, but if you already have a PSP then it's not exactly a reason to buy a whole new system. Definitely a perk, though.

So I've decided that I need to drastically cut back on my video gaming time and the best way to do that is to stop caring about trophies. In fact, I'm even going to go so far as to make a new PSN name.
Don't change your PSN name man. Just stop going for those stupid grindy trophies. It's ok not to complete games. Play the game, get your fun out of it, and move on. That's what I do. I'm quite proud of my 33% completion. The other thing that sucks about being a completionist is using collectibles and missable trophies guides on your first playthrough. The first playthrough is supposed to be all about exploration and experiencing the game. Following any type of guide can really ruin that experience. (I'm not saying you use guides like that on your first playthrough, but I'm sure many completionists do to cut back on total playthroughs required.)

EDIT: Apparently it's up to almost 36%. Woohoo!

It's just to completely remove the temptation cause I'll be like, "Hmmm, I should keep Madagascar Kartz because maybe I'll play it one day to get more of the trophies." Now, I can say, "fuck that game." Plus, I like my new name. I'll be adding you soon, I decided to re-format my PS3 and re-downloading games instead of manually deleting each one I don't want to play. I figured it'd be faster.

Gotcha. Giving up 5800+ trophies is crazy in my book. I'll hold on to ever precious trophy I have as long as I can! Haha.

What? Am I getting trolled, or is this real?
Could be a fluke. I pre-ordered GTAV, then bought four of the PS2 games for $2.50 each right after. Even now, the titles in the sale section say unavailable, but I can still click through and add them to the cart at sale price. This was all done on the web store today, so I don't know if the results would have been the same in the PS3 store.

I actually never noticed trophies until I joined CAG.

Since you guys keep talking and keep talking and keep talking about it, I checked mine. I have zero platinums and 2342 non-platinums (mostly bronze), must be like a tiny fraction of what you guys have.
Hah, I have all of 4 platinums. Two of them are from a Sly Cooper Thieves in Time cross save and one is from Walking Dead (which is a platinum just for beating the game.)

If the game requires multiple playthroughs then it's pretty much a guarantee I'll never attempt to get it.

Strangely enough, my other platinum is from the first Sly Cooper. I guess I like Sly Cooper.

Sly Cooper.

should I get KZ:M?
been doing so many Day Ones on the Vita... hmmm

I just barely got Rayman legends so I will probably have to wait a little bit before killzone, and I only got rayman because its cheaper than on wii u and even more so after the tiny digital version discount. But the multiplayer beta was pretty fun.

Another option to the trophy rehabilitation quest is turning off the trophy indicator. I'm in the same boat with nowhere near as many trophies putting time into games I don't even like very much. I never realized how dedicated I'd get to certain games until I started playing more on my PC. Not having trophies/achievements driving me forward has made me stop playing lousy games and focusing on ones I enjoy. I still like getting trophies and all, but it's been rather eye opening to me.

This is a real thing that can be done? I need to investigate... especially on vita, its significantly more obnoxious there.

I'm really liking it. It really shows how shameful Black Ops: Declassified really was/is. KZ:M feels like the type of quality title Call of Duty should have put out. The game is great looking, has good mechanics, good matchmaking, and the multiplayer maps are actually decent size. If you like FPS, you really can't go too wrong on this one.

To be fair, I've mostly played multiplayer so far, but single player definitely looks promising too.

From another forum:

Yes they can. On your Vita go to settings, notifications then scroll down to the bottom you should see trophies. In there you have options to disable on screen trophy notifications among others.

You can even hide trophies from your trophy list so that nobody else can see them if that's a big issue, which can only be done on a Vita.

I once had this game for my iphone where you got achievements for making to do lists and then completing said lists.
What's to stop you from lying and just saying you completed said lists? At least with trophies, there's no lying involved. When I say my digital penis is a certain length, I have a trophy card to back it up.

Nothing really stopped you. In fact it was pretty silly, though it did has this cool knight type feel to it, it was meant to be silly. In fact I remember it now. It was called epic win

Various responses:

1) Play TLOU immediately. Period.

2) PSP games look significantly better on a vita.

Some PSP games also play significantly better once you remap controls to the second analog, touch, etc. I have a PSP loaded with games on an alternate account and i find it very hard to go back to it.

3) Switching accounts on a vita is a pain, but not impossible. Basically, remember when you first turned on your vita? You had to watch a short video and set your date/time and all that? That's what you're in for. It's a factory reset, then pop in your other card. It's just simple enough to sound feasible, and just a pita enough to never want to actually do.

4) Here's an idea -- even if you start playing games on another account, just keep buying them on your main gettinmoney662 account. Your vita will have all the games, and all alt-accounts on your ps3 will play them just fine. there is no real reason to start buying them on the new account, it will only fragment your purchases and cause you problems down the line.

Even swapping memory cards on the same account is a horrible sad experience all of the icons get reset and it is just not a fan of doing any of that swappy flippity floop. Its just gross
I thought they fixed this with a recent patch (maybe 2 months ago)

Regarding trophies. I hate that plats make me feel like i'm done with a game. For example, I have a hard time booting up Super Stardust and Unit 13 on my vita, even though i love both, just because there are no more trophies to unlock. But I'd probably rather be playing one of those two games over anything else I have on it right now, pure fun-wise. Pre-trophies, I never thought about games like that. Grr.

Yeah, it's likely going to be the next game I play, not 100% sure yet.

Well, I would only be switching accounts to play PSP/PS1 games so if it's not that much of a hassle to do once in a blue moon, then maybe it won't be a problem. It's not like I'm going to play a PS1 game at the same time as a Vita game so it won't be like I'll have to switch back and forth everyday.

I also kind of want to make a new name to make my download list more manageable. My gettinmoney one has 1663 or so items in it. It's not like that account is getting deleted, so I'll always have access to it. The only casualties are the Vita PSN games that are tied to the gettinmoney account. Luckily, a lot of the ones that I actually want are cross buy so I'll just play them on PS3. I think the only real casualties are Sine Mora and Sumioni.

I kinda exaggerated. I'll still go after trophies, I'm just changing how they affect my gaming. It was starting to feel more like work than fun because I'd have various worries. Also, if I wasn't earning trophies, I'd feel like I was wasting time, which affected my playing of DS/PSP/PS1 games. Now they'll just be something to go after and if it stops being fun, fuck it, on to the next one. I'm trying to reverse five years of conditioning here.

Did they really fix that? I have had a second memory card that I stopped using because it was so frustrating to swap out. Do they still make you turn it all the way off each time you swap or did they fix that too?

Nope, has to fully restart because it has to reset the bubbles.

Ugh. You guys are playing with my heart here. I was hoping to stick my indie psn games all on one card and have my larger full sized digital games on the other, but it is just such a hassle.
If it's the same account it's not that bad relatively, at least the Vita restarts fairly fast.

Speaking of which I sure hope they relax it a little bit on how accounts work with Vita TV.  One of the coolest potential things about it could be having a friend who maybe doesn't have a Vita but bought a Vita TV bring their memory card over, pop it in yours and play some ad hoc multiplayer.  Those kinds of situations could make it very cool but some of those restrictions that are easier to live with on a portable could totally kill it.

I have exactly one game I've gotten all the achievements for on Xbox: Costume Quest (plus DLC) and that's because I loved the game so much. On PSN I don't have a single one. I like trophies/achievements well enough, especially if they are fun to go for (Trials HD on 360 had some fun ones that were like a bonus game), but I definitely do not play shitty games just for trophies, nor play games to death to try to get that last trophy. I don't get that at all. If that's what you're doing I would highly recommend shutting off trophies. Purge yourself of that addiction....

I hadn't thought about the crazy account situation on the Vita. If the Vita TV retains that it is doomed. Hopefully this means that they are going to add easy account switching on Vita in an update. No need for multiple memory cards. No restarting nonsense.

Well even though I'm sure we all knew Vita TV would come here eventually, Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed it would be pretty much we just don't know when. You'd think they'd try to aim for the holiday season here but maybe they want to have a longer testing period with it in Japan.

@compccs @thesixthaxis we are just saying "PS Vita TV releasing first in Japan" :)
