I actually got Rag Doll for free a long time ago.  Also, thanks for the comments, affa, but none of those are swaying me.  I don't like TD games and I don't like pinball.

But I need your help, guys.  What should the first game on my new profile be?  I was thinking either The Last of Us or Skyrim but I just got the Kingdom Hearts HD game in and I've never played those games, so I was thinking of starting with Kingdom Hearts 1.  What you guys think?

I'd go with Kingdom Hearts because A) TLoU is overrated, and B) Skyrim isn't exactly the best PS3 port around. Kingdom Hearts was great when I played it a few years ago, so that's my vote :)

But the statement is true. Ask a graphic designer if they like OLED. Or a photographer. OLED has a lot of "pop" and great black levels, but colors are oversaturated and its whites are muddy. A high quality IPS LCD has inferior black levels with better overall color reproduction / accuracy and clean whites. It all depends on what you value in a screen.

On a phone I want an LCD. Pictures taken and shown on an iPhone or HTC One actually look right, and they look the same when transferred to a computer or printed. OLED phones, especially Samsung's with PenTile OLED's, are dogs that can't hunt in the photo/video space.

Whether the things that make LCd's good in other environments will translate well to the Vita, I don't know. Games benefit from the "pop" and over saturation. But I'd give the LCD a chance and try to see it in person before writing it off as an absolute downgrade.

I still don't see why people are defending this to death. OLED to LCD is a downgrade period. It's SUPPOSED to be a downgrade hence the cheaper vita model. Why the hell would they give a device that they designed to sell cheaper to reach more people a better display? Dear God lets let this debate rest it's pointless.

Yeah, the camaraderie trophy was the biggest pain the ass to get. I think it's accumulative, though. PS3T says it's not because it only lists the last 50 people you've played with, but when I got it I was a few thousand short of the 20k.

I pretty close to that one. The only ones I really need to boost are Trader and versus ops.

You do realize that the new model isn't actually cheaper, right? If you translate the Yen prices to dollars, its about $190 and the original model is $200. I suspect the 2000 will launch here at the same pricepoint as the current model. It'll just be thinner, lighter, have longer battery life, and multiple color options ... and an LCD screen. Even of you don't like the screen, the other stuff is an improvement at the same pricepoint.

Don't be jealous that I have an awesome job. Actually I really just play during morning break and lunch. But I work from home for as a customer support rep. My job is entirely driven on how much the phone is ringing. Some days offer a lot of down time.

I'm having an issue with it as well. I'll try again in a few days. I had an issue the other week when starwars Pinball would not install right on the vita. waited and tried again and worked fine

 
Man, Kingdom Hearts is gorgeous, did it look already look really good on the PS2 or did Square-Enix kill it with the upgrades?

Also, does anyone know why I can't post on my new name?  Do you need to wait a certain amount of days before posting?

Man, Kingdom Hearts is gorgeous, did it look already look really good on the PS2 or did Square-Enix kill it with the upgrades?

Also, does anyone know why I can't post on my new name? Do you need to wait a certain amount of days before posting?


It's been a while since I played it, but Square games on PS2 were almost all incredible looking for there time. Being in HD us the icing on the cake with the remastered edition :drool:

Are you talking about CAG? I believe there is a wait period for new accounts, but unfortunately I don't know how long it is. You might just want to change your old account to your new name, since that's possible now :)

Has anyone heard of any upcoming sales on PSP RPG's by either XSeed or Square Enix? Reason I ask is I have sold almost all of my PSP RPG's on Amazon that have digital PSN versions available and with a couple of other sales to help pad it, I am looking to drop over $100 on PSP games on PSN probably the first week of August to have them available on Vita.

We never really know of sales in advance... we can only go on best guesses.

This is the list:

FF IV Complete  --- you missed the huge FF sale in Feb.   But they'll likely go on sale again eventually. 

Dissidia 012  -- see above.  probably in around a year if you can wait, but it could be longer (or shorter).

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky -- i'd love this to happen.  they recently announced #2 will come to psp (yes, psp) in 2014.  So there might be a sale/price drop in the next year.

Ys Seven  -- Ys Memories of Celceta is coming in November.  If we're going to see a sale, it'll be before then.

Again, you never know.  Perhaps they'll do some random big sale, or celebrate the new Ys in some way.   I wouldn't hold your breath for any of them, really.   But I'd say the Ys games have the best chance of a sale in the near future, but if it doesn't happen by the release of Ys MoC, then back to the drawing board. 

On the other hand, I think Valkria is the least likely to go on sale due to the recent price drop.    FF... hmm.  At best, maybe in 6 months.  But the huge sale was a 25th anniversary sale, and it's not like '26th anniversary' has the same ring to it.  Still, they go on sale more often than most games.

noticed on the psn page it now says PSP and VITA before it just said PSP

Unless I'm in an alternate universe I still believe $190 is still cheaper than than $200. And don't let us forget that the original only just dropped to $200 itself. And uh yeah the new model IS cheaper for Sony to make and sell etc. See below:

This will be my last post about this hilariously stupid argument. OLED is better quality and as such more expensive than LCD. This ps vita will be cheaper to produce and profit margin will increase. The new model will also be cheaper than the first's original price and possibly even cheaper than the new price by a couple of bucks. These are all facts not opinion people :p

Sorry for the double post, but for those of you looking to pick up an unopened OLED Vita I would do so before too long and people jack the price up on eBay. Unless you want 3G or a bundle it seems like. 

The company says that it'll ultimately discontinue the OLED WiFi model, but that the 3G/WiFi OLED version will continue to be available and will find its way into similar discount bundles in the future -- make of that what you will.

I find it highly unlikely that we see any drop in price for the new cheaper to produce model. It just doesn't make sense for Sony to market an item that is cheaper "by a couple of bucks".

anyone know a good deal on a ps vita memory card? I recently bought a vita but memory isn't enough for all of my psp games that i want to transfer over...

Seriously, when the new Vitas hit the shelves do you expect them to retail for $189.99? I think Sony will just enjoy the extra profit. They just dropped the price by $50.

I understand why people are recommending KH as your first (one of my favorite games EVAR), but TLoU is short and sweet compared to the rest. 12-18 hours depending on the style of play. May want to knock it out just for the sake of it. Then, I'd go for KH. And I loved Skyrim, but play at your own risk on ps3. I've dubbed it the unofficial sequel to A Bug's Life.

I believe Skyrim is an experience that varies by gamer. I had no problems until I hit the 100 hour mark and had a vast supply of items. Once I got bored, I poured 80 more hours on a new character once the expansions hit and due to my item collecting, the save file blew to the 16 MB region. So, you could have a silky smooth experience or a terrible one.

Didn't any patches fix the bugginess? I thought I read that. I picked up PS3 Skyrim for $10 a while back but have yet to play it. I'm afraid it will consume my soul, so I'm kinda saving it for the end of my backlog. Though it's getting harder to resist.

That's the same reason I'm hesitant to play it too.
 
I've played Spelunky on Vita 617 times so far. I would love to know what that translates into in hours. I think I could just have this game and no other and I'd be happy with my Vita purchase!

 
Patches only smoothed the experienced in my case, didn't fix any underlying problem I was having. As you progress and hoard, the save file will bloat depending your approach on storing items. I bought all houses, decked them out and stored countless items. I recommend playing with all autosave functions off (trust me, it makes the game run better and manual saving should be a gamer's bread and butter). The game will consume your soul.

Japanese MSRP pricing is a lot more granular than US pricing. And new products in Japan are rarely offered at less than MSRP, so the announced price is really just parity with the actual selling price of the 1000/OLED Vita. It's NOT cheaper.

Its safe to say the 2000 won't launch for $190 here. It'll launch at the exact same $199 pricepoint as the 1000 and tout the longer battery life, thinness, built in memory (no forced accessory purchase), and color options.

You're missing the boat on this entirely. The LCD enables Sony to address two big complaints with the Vita (too bulky for a pocket, not enough juice). Wait and see the screen before you go nutso about it. I'm not fond of the Vita's OLED. It washes out in sun--sucks on the bus portion of my daily commute--and it's developed a couple noticeable dark spots. The colors are oversaturated. Yes, OLED has strengths, but its not a be all end all uber-technolog. The LCD will have weaknesses, but you've bought into marketing hype if you think LCD vs. OLED is a clear cut question.
 
I want to argue about something that is based completely on speculation!

How about aliens vs. sasquatches, which one makes the better lover? I think aliens are, and anyone who says sasquatches is a fuckin idiot.

I didn't say that the statement isn't true, I said that Sony are terrible liars for saying that's why they switched to an LCD. There hasn't been some magical revolution or leap forward in the technology in the last year that wasn't there when they were speccing out the system. Just say "This is thinner, uses less power, and is cheaper for us to buy so that we could address the most frequent complaints about the system. It's not our original vision but we think it's a reasonable compromise without detracting from the experience." That kind of common sense doesn't exist in industry though.

Also I'm not buying the same monitor to play video games or watch movies on as I am to do design work. It goes both ways because the qualities of a good design monitor aren't necessarily the same as those of a good consumer monitor. Also those LCD monitors are several times the price of a standard monitor, almost always thicker and with a higher power draw than a lower quality but otherwise comparable LCD. Of course extremely high quality LCDs exist but do you honestly expect that's the direction Sony's going with it when hardware revisions are about creating margin. It will be probably be perfectly fine but I'm still not switching to it.
