Just popped in to tell ya'll Guacamelee is singlehandedly my favorite game this vacation. Spent some awesome time playing so far. Still not done.

Out of the blue here, but do the bonuses to the Last of Us that come via the season pass help much? I'm talking the increased speed of things and whatever else, not the hats and maps and new story stuff for single-player. Wondering if I should pull the trigger on it now in anticipation for it magically appearing under my tree or if I should wait out some kind of rare sale.

About the only gameplay related thing I don't like about guacamelee is there is only room for one save slot, to start a different playthrough you have to overwrite your save file, or save it to a thumb drive/upload it to the cloud. For instance, the DLC has trophies for beating the final boss with certain costumes so I wanted to hold onto my normal playthrough file (also since I had located all the heart and stamina upgrades) in case I ever bought the DLC so I wouldn't have to do it on hard. To do it I had to save the normal playthrough to a thumb drive.

This is a pretty stupid comment. I count 4 Vita games on sale this week, of which most are different genres and most are at least decent, if not quite well regarded. Plus free Sonic Racing.
The best Vita game of the year is on sale (Hotline Miami), so I don't get how there are no good Vita games on sale.

No doubt on Castle of Illusion, super happy I waited for that. Ducktales could have probably been cheaper, don't matter to me though I bought it at launch during that promo, which turned out to be a really good decision for me.

Can someone give a full recap for Dragon Fantasy Book 2? Have they patched out some of the issues that plagued it at launch? I know IGN thrashed it, but it was reviewed by by far the worst editor over there. Other reviews haven't been great though either. Let's just say I'd give Book 1 a 7.5 or 8/10, so I'm assuming I'll like Book 2 as well right?
What issues? I played a few hours of it and had no issues at all. Book 2 is a lot better than the first, as they evolved the battle system a bit and have more interesting side quests to go after.

It's still crossbuy. They just write it like that on the PS Blog because who knows why....
Because they appear as separate games on the PS Store.

That game has random encounters (walk along and BOOM, battle out of the blue) or not? If it has those random encounters I will not play it past the 3rd or 4th such random encounter. Ha ha.
Book I had random encounters, but Book II's enemies all appear on the overworld map. The random encounters in Book I got a little tedious, but the story and the change in party/gameplay between chapters was the thing that made it worthwhile to keep going.

Yup, in the open and in dungeons, all random encounters.
For Book I, not Book II.

Yes, I've played those. Thing is, we're talking about those Dragon Fantasy games, right? Those are more in the 16-bit style where for the most part the only thing you ever saw were random encounters.
Book I is styled after NES RPGs while Book II is styled after SNES RPGs, though all of Book IIs enemies appear on the overworld.

For anybody wanting to see what Dragon Fantasy Book I looks like in action, I made a video for that a while ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMHRgZU2BVo

And here's Hotline Miami:

Dragon Fantasy Book II seems to be quite different in a lot of ways from the first one.  Looks like no random battles and the fights take place on the map since I recall someone asking about that.

I had mainly read about issues of severe game crashing to the point that it would not let you continue further into the game. Read about some other smaller glitches as well.

Regardless, I'm going to buy it even though I'm pretty sure it will be $3.75 sometime early in the new year. I'll probably play it right away, I'd like to support the developer (as much as waiting for a 50% off sale could be considered "support") and it has a shiny beautiful platinum!

Frisky (and others who may care), it looks like Toki Tori is 20% off ($3.99 instead of $4.99) for PS+ members.  Didn't see it noted on the PS Blog update or in the OP, just randomly stumbled on it when I was browsing the PS Store on my PS3.  Extra buck off may make me pick it up since I've heard good things about it from those who have played it on Nintendo.

Does anyone know if the extra $10 for adding $50 through Paypal is still valid? it says until Dec. 23, which is today, but...ya know how these things work...

It specifies "between December 17th, 2013 and December 24th, 2013" so it definitely should still work today.

I played both Dragon Fantasy games. I liked the first one better, because it had more of that old school RPG feel to it. The second one wasn't that bad, but there were some complaints I had about it.

1. It felt to me like they just Frisky'd the menu, experience point system, and a lot of the combat out of the first game. The menu is exactly the same, which is a shame because it was really my only complaint about the first one.

2. The monster capture system just didn't work for me. Most of the monsters were useless and I just ended up using normal party members for most of the game. Around the half way point in the game, I think I switched to using just Ogden with no party members. I never found a single monster that made me think "Yeah, it was totally worth it to capture this guy!"

3. On Vita I had some issues with the controls. The walking around mechanic was really off to me. I didn't have this problem on the PS3 though, so it might just be a hardware limitation. Maybe they couldn't make the Vita's nub as accurate as they wanted.

I think that's really it. The story was fun, even if they just Frisky'd a lot of jokes from the first one. Super easy platinum for you trophy hunters. I played most of it post patch and the only issue I ever had was the random crash every now and then. It actually seemed like whenever I would reach 0 MP in battle, the game would crash. Luckily there's an autosave feature that's actually really good and I never lost more than a couple minutes progress. I think whenever you enter a new room the game autosaves.

Worth a buy, and that's all I have to say about that.

Other stuff:

Did Ducktales get patched? I only have a few trophies to finish, but one is Extreme mode and with the pogo glitches I wasn't going to attempt it until it got patched. I might just buy it even if it's not.

I fucking LOVE NHL 14. Seriously you guys, it's almost all I play lately.

I beat Epic Mickey 2 with my wife. It was a horrible experience.

Half of the time you don't know where to go or what to do without a walkthrough. Even if you do know where to go, some jumps are ridiculously hard thanks to terrible camera, and I don't see how it could be accomplished by a younger player. There are some glitches that allows you "skip" portions of the level at which point it is impossible to follow the walkthrough, other glitches forces you to restart the level.

The only fun part is the 2D mini levels that act as transition levels.
I know I am a little late. But completely agree!

epic Mickey 2 is awful. I wanted to throw away my ps3. I was so happy when my daughter finally lost interest in it. I was about to break all our controllers so I didn't have to play it anymore! I would rather shoot myself in the face than play that game again.

It would appear that both X-Men and The Simpsons Arcade Game have been removed from PSN.  Most likely has to do with license expiring issues.

Both were from Konami, and I know they just had the removal of Skullgirls earlier this month.

I second you on this. It took away tons of time already from other games I was in the middle of. I always find myself starting it up just to get the daily Ultimate Team puck bonus. Then I say I'll just play one quick game. 5 games later and I pretty much run out of time to go back to my other shit. Only complaint is trying to get some of those EASHL League trophies and Connected GM ones seems damn near impossible since I'm already behind the skill curve. I mostly stick to Play as a Pro mode and HUT, though I usually get my ass kicked in online HUT. My team is called Latviawesome if you ever run across me. Or feel free to add me if you wanna play a game.

NHL 14: are the lightning any good in the game? I know they are doin pretty well this year but I dont know any players other than st Louis and stamkos so I wouldn't play anyone else nor have fun with a shitty team . I know they were not good last year so I could see them having shitty stats . I als haven't played a hockey game in years. Is this one good for casual fans?

I haven't personally played with them at all, but they do have dynamic roster updates. From EA website:

EDIT: There's also this:http://www.easports.com/nhl/news-updates-gameplay/article/nhl-14-winter-roster-update

The latest NHL®14 Dynamic Ratings update has arrived! For the first year in franchise history, player ratings will be adjusted based on real-world NHL performances.

These ratings changes are available to challenge in both the ‘Play Now’ and ‘Online Versus’ modes*.

Players who are on hot streaks will receive a temporary ratings boost, while players who have been slumping will see a temporary decline in their individual and overall player ratings. Each week, we select over 35 NHL players who have played above or below their start of season expectations.

Players will continue to be updated throughout the week according to their real life performances.

Huh I have NHL 14 but haven't played a lick of it yet. More of a quick peck really. I guess I should start. Who's the top 5 players/teams in the league these days? I don't want to do the be a pro mode, prob just start a season with my Oilers.

man i picked up the borderlands 2 season pass when it was on sale to finish out the trophies and as it turns out i didnt actually want to play any more borderlands 2 ever again. ah well.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is on sale on XBLA (c. $5). I think I'll hold out for a PS+ sale. It'll probably go on sale sometime in the next year, right?

NHL is terrific this year, I second that opinion. The past three years I enjoyed the game but had trouble scoring with the Isles in my GM season. Every game was a 2-1 win or a 4-1 loss. This year I play on All Star instead of Pro, scores vary wildly which is great, and it's just so much more fun than the past few years. As a result of trying to get through backlog + PS4 NBA 2k, I haven't played a lot of NHL yet but every time I put the disc in I end up playing three games because I can't put it down.

Never tried Ultimate team. What's he appeal of that mode/how does it work exactly? I know it's in every EA game but since I don't know much about it I never really gave it a chance. I know you build a team from a pack of cards but the player ratings vary? And is it online or solo games?

Its funny, cuz I know more about these shows because of the games then I know them from the shows. I have never seen an episode of adventure time. I dont have cable. I have amazon prime (workaholics) and 2,4,5,9,11,30. lol. From playing to level 50 Id have to say that cinnamon bun was ok. lol i have no idea. i take that back, there was some goth chic my grrl played as, she was cool and could fly and transformed into a gargoyle, so she wins. kinda like that hot demon chic in ugly americans, again the game not the show knowledge, lol, altho ugly americans is now on prime too so i gotta check that out someday. woot merry christmas im outta here for the next few days, woot

These moments are why the show is so amazing:

They really need to do a full half hour musical episode.

Hahahah, it took me a little bit to figure out what tek meant by Frisky'd.

I'm going to get the Dragon Fantasy Bundle even though I already own 1 so I can play both on my Vita.

Haha I'm hoping next week! That and the Castlevania Mirrors of Fate game are the 2 games XBL has got that I'm jealous about. Was jealous about Castle of Illusion but that was cleared up this week, and PS+ members even get it $3.75 cheaper than it was on XBL.
