They have to do it last. Otherwise everyone would be hitting up the stores trying to preorder instead of paying attention to the games.

 
So basically cars have more detail and sports players look sweatier. Everything else looks current gen or running on a low end PC. I really don't feel like this presentation is living up to the God tier hype of how the hardware is so vastly advanced.

Agreed that nothing here looks especially unique or like an experience you couldn't get current gen (although many of these games look very good). It's just proof that a tech demo can look amazing but a full game with AI and multiple environments etc. will look less impressive. Compare launch titles to a game like FF7R, it'll be a few years before the capabilities are realized.

I felt the same way going from PS3/360 to current gen, until I saw Doom 2016 running.

Don't know why they showed me Bugsnax before Horizon Forbidden West, but hey finally something I'm interested to play.

Astrobot was the other thing that grabbed my attention, but itnstead of what I wanted (Astrobot 2) it looks like another Mario Odyssey style attempt just like the sackboy game.

Edit: That console.  Yeesh.  Equally overproduced and gaudy as the controller.  Waiting for the slim version I guess.

Console looks like a modem. Overall, great show. Super stoked for new Astrobot and HZD. Lots of cool looking games. Only bad part about it was that Sony streamed it in 1080p. 

 
No price reveal for either edition is incredibly disappointing for their “E3” presentation. Guess I will just wait for more information like everyone is. I hope there is nice difference in price between digital and disc based console. I may consider the digital only version. Some nice first party game reveals though.
 
I’d give the presentation a slightly above average review, definitely some great games shown, but nothing mind blowing for next gen IMO.
 
Great show, I like the look of the console. Having 2 sku’s makes me think it’s going to be expensive.

That was kind of underwhelming. I was looking for any excuse to buy a PS5 at launch, but it doesn't seem like there will be anything interesting until next year. The show started off strong with another Spiderman game, and I was hoping for some big surprises like an X-Men game by Insomniac or a Legend of Dragoon remake. Maybe Street Fighter 6.

The one silver lining to me is that with the unveiling of an all-digital PS5, I think chances are high that PlayStation Now will be revamped to be more competitive with Xbox Game Pass. Wouldn't hurt to subscribe for a year while it's still on sale for $41.99.

Not a fan of the console design.  The curviness makes it look like it can't be laid horizontally, and there's no way I'd have the space to stand it up.  I'd have preferred that weird V dev-kit console to this.

 
Interesting. Whatever money is saved with the all-digital version, I assume will be spent on extra storage. Games are only going to get bigger, and the proprietary SSD means not all externals will perform the same or you'll need to buy licensed external storage. 

 
Definitely intrigued: only caught the last 45 minutes or so, but I liked what I saw overall. Console's design made me think of Alienware PCs for some reason. As long as the backwards compatibility to PS2 is still in play, and the price is less than $500, count me the flux capacitor in for the standard version. Y'all can keep the digital editions. :D

My gut tells me they don't have much to announce or they are still working on what they can and can't do. If they were fully BC or at least with PS3, I am sure they would have stated something by now. It's a big bullet point. The lack of info about it means it's not likely IMO. PS4 games will work on it so that's something and a form of BC.

The PS5 disc version makes it look like Sony was going all digital and then lost their nerve and decided last minute to include the option for a disc based system. just looks awkward to me.
 
While I may not like the wait for more information, I understand Sony keeping their cards close to their chest.  Remember when Sega announced the Saturn for $400 and said it was literally available for purchase the moment it was announced? Then Sony stepped out to the stage, said "$299", and won the generation with just one word.  Or when Microsoft went through a lot of BS about sharing games and then Sony made a simple video showing how easy it was to share them?  Then they won that generation.

We may not like that we're not getting the information we want now, but Sony is playing it smart.  All they have to do is wait for Microsoft to announce a price and release date. If Sony then announces the PS5 at a lower price and an earlier date, especially with legacy BC support, then they will win the generation before it even starts.

Games were definitely a mixed bag.
GTAV felt out of place and the fact that it's not confirmed as free for owners of the PS4 version means we should expect publishers to continue to sell cash-grab remasters.
Spidey game's cool but seems like a spin-off to keep us busy until actual next-gen Spidey.
GT7 is a good no-brainer.
Was happy to see Ratchet isn't dead.
Sackboy looked polished but generic.
Destruction Allstars looked cool. Probably would have made a nice Twisted Metal game.
Soulstorm looking great as ever.
Ghostwire Tokyo looked fun but I am definitely disappointed by the direction they decided to go in.
Was excited to see Astro Bot (gameplay gives me this LEGO vibe for some reason) but if it's just another console minigame thing, that's disappointing.
Little Devil Inside was real charming.
Bugsnax grew on me.
Demon's Souls was hype. I was simultaneously surprised and not surprised. Yoshida saying how dear the game was to him was funny given he shittalked it way back when.
Deathloop very much shows its Dishonored pedigree in both a good and a bad way.
RE8 looked janky as fuck. I think its origins as Revelations 3 shows. Werewolf was cool.
I wasn't sure if Pragmata was a Dead Space spiritual successor or a secret sequel to Death Stranding. If it wasn't for Capcom being the developer, I would totally believe it was another Kojima ruse. Looked neat though.
Horizon 2 was Horizon 2. Didn't really excite me, but I like the turtle monster.
Aside from some of the games and the console reveal, I was very disappointed they were not clear about which games are multiplats or timed exclusives, and not a single peep about backwards compatibility or price.

I get that they're worried about undercutting but PS4 has such a huge advantage when it comes to marketshare over the Xbone that it just seems overly cowardly. The Saturn was coming off the Genesis and Sony was a brand new competitor. Completely different dynamic.

No way would they do that after last gen and what Xbox went through. The console with a drive is probably going to be around $500 so removing that probably gets them a sku at the $400 desirable price point. Similar to the 360 when it had a core and pro sku or the PS3 when it had a 20 or 60gb sku.

See: Xbone S (which also has a Blu-ray UHD player) vs. SAD.

Or else they're the same price and the SAD playstation is the rumored 2tb sku.

 
I’m not convinced that we see a different price point between the two SKUs. An all digital system would hopefully have more storage, which could even the price out. Sony also hasn’t said anything about expandable storage.

That seems like it would be terrible especially for marketing. I see a larger drive version coming out down the line, but not making people choose a physical drive or bigger hard drive at the same price.

 
Ratchet was really the only game they showed that couldn't be done on PS4 with each world loading instantly from the SSD. Looks a bit too crazy though.

Ratchet & Clank if available on launch is good enough for me. Looks like some decent looking games for sure. I really liked the particle effects in Ratchet & Clank. For prices I'm guessing $500-600 honestly with if the digital has the same space it being a cheaper version. Likely will have better HD and the same price. I'm guessing $600.
