That would actually be a reason for me to return to the game, but then I realize it's still more of the same. Great crossover though; wish they had done this with the first game when I was still invested.

 
Slightly dated news at this point, but Focus Home Interactive has delisted several Frogwares titles from multiple storefronts. Frogwares are the developers mostly known for the Sherlock Holmes titles and most recently The Sinking City (which all except one or two have been delisted).

Frogwares released a statement on their website:

Hello,

This letter is addressed to everyone who is interested in the video game industry, and wants to take a look at what’s happening behind the curtain.

We are Frogwares, the developer of the Sherlock Holmes video games, and The Sinking City. We make detective games because it’s our passion, and because it allows us to live off it.

But today, that is under threat. Some of our games are being removed from Sony’s and Microsoft’s storefronts, and even maybe from Steam. This list includes our titles like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes Vs. Jack The Ripper and Magrunner: Dark Pulse (see full list below).

Why? Because Focus Home Interactive, the licensee (or “publisher”) that was in charge of commercializing these games on these platforms, refuses to transfer the title IDs to us, the creators and IP owners of those titles, even though our Publishing and Distribution Agreement has expired.

Because, according to their official statement, sent to us only last week, “Focus has put in place a policy in accordance with which they will not transfer any title – the content ID or title ID – belonging to any developer which has removed all of their games from the Focus catalog”.

A policy that is not in any of our previous or existing contracts with Focus and that has never been applied to us in the past.

Because of that policy, our games will be taken down from all storefronts.

As it stands right now, the only game left is Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishment which only has until September 29th. It is possible that it will be taken down at this date or earlier if nothing is done. The players will no longer be able to buy and play the game. We will also lose all our wishlists and every other bit of information on those store pages. As the creators and IP owners of all those games, we have no control and no say in this. The decision of Focus Home left us voiceless.

We are in the process of setting up new store profiles, and we are contacting console stores and hope to try and rectify the situation. However, we are unable to confirm if this can be done and already know that it will be impossible for certain games on previous gen, and very costly for others as we will have to update the SDK and that takes months. We are certainly not going to give up, and will pursue this issue through the appropriate channels.

We have always been an independent studio. We worked with many licensees on the grounds of mutual interests and benefits, but it’s the first time in 20 years we have encountered such a situation. We are losing all revenue attached to these games, for some – for an unknown period of time and for other games, forever. This new policy from Focus Home towards former contracted developers will land a serious blow to our studio, threatening our future games and the people who develop them.

Right now, we are in a tough situation. We are preparing ourselves for a significant loss. To those parties that can help us and have influence over the situation – feel free to contact us.

That PS Now price drop makes that service super tempting now.

Even if my internet connection is subpar (aka slow af), I don't have to worry about that now that downloading PS Now games is a thing, correct?

There's a lot of stuff in that games list that I'm either interested in trying but not sure if I want to buy, last gen games I'd like to revisit (I no longer have a last gen console) or games I never got to try last gen.

I believe last gen titles (PS3) are only playable through streaming so you would actually need a decent internet connection to be able to actually enjoy those games.

Keep in mind that downloading games is only for PS4 games. Last gen games still have to be streamed, the PS4 can't natively play PS3 games.

Damnit, that's a bummer. I guess I can always try the trial to see how they stream for me, but I don't have high hopes. Oh well, thanks for letting me know that before I paid for a month to try it.

Now I feel like an asshole for shitting all over The Sinking City. That really sucks, it feels like another Telltale situation where the rights were unceremoniously ripped away from the developers and the games delisted without any warning. At the very least, you can still play the physical version of the games: The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (PS3), Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments (PS3, PS4) and Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter (PS4). It really does feel like another massive blow to the adventure game community, though.

$9.99 is still a great introductory subscription for their PS4 catalog. Paying separately for each title would cost so much more. I should know because I've already bought 90% of the games I would be interested in from the service. :wall: (Incredible value for anyone new to PS4 however.)

they offer a 7 day trial, you have to put a credit card on file for it though, even if you are going to eventually pay with psn credit.

 
Anyone know if Psyvariar Delta is ever coming to PlayStation Network?  I've seen physical copies for sale on a few websites, but I'm not even convinced that those exist.

I’m in the same boat, but it’s not looking like I’ll make it through another four or five platinums. Might be able to get another gold pass though and that might bump me up to another $10 card.
How long was the platinum for Hero Express?

I agree. It's got some really neat ideas in it, unique visuals and a weird story, but I think I found it more frustrating than anything. Aside from the oft-discussed frame drop (I played it on a PS4 slim), the map detail was sorely lacking and I found myself lost more often than not (would it be so hard to implement waypoints?). Also Remedy, ever heard of something called checkpoints? When you die, you go all the way back to the last control point, which means lots of backtracking, and enemies keep respawning in areas where you've cleared them out (except when I needed them to spawn). Very annoying during tough boss battles, where you sometimes have to retrace your steps for 5-10 minutes just to get back to where you were, only to die again. It is a good game though, and I think it's worth a solid $20 price point.

If you go to your trophy log on your PSNProfiles page and filter by platinum trophies only, then cross reference against the last date you got +1000 on the Sony Rewards point history, that should give you an accurate estimate.

This is about the only good way to check, though, I will say keep in mind it still might not be 100% accurate. I finished a platinum pass on June 6th and then earned another 12 plats before the next pass completed. I thought maybe it was just weird timing and it would roll to the next pass, but nope, my current plat pass shows 0/10.

 
I cross referenced the last pass I earned with my trophy list, but I’m not confident that it will add up correctly since there are a couple plats right beforehand. Not sure how quickly the rewards program syncs.

Sony confirms that the PlayStation 5 is the name for their next console and that it'll be out Holiday 2020. They also shared two of the new features for the PS5's controller:

  • It supports ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU rather than a software solution
  • Discs will have a 100GB max storage space on them
  • 4K Blu-ray player
  • The ability for game installs to be more compartmental so that you could just install the single-player portion of a game or the multiplayer or delete one part of a game when you're done with it
  • The dashboard will let you better know what stuff you can do in the game you're thinking about playing before you start.
  • The new controller has a better speaker in it
  • USB Type-C connector for charging it that you can also play through, as well
  • Larger capacity battery for the controller, which makes it heavier than the DS4 but lighter than the XB1 controller with batteries in it

Cool, only 14 more months to get through my entire backlog.

I love how they have to "officially" announce that they're calling it the PlayStation 5, as if they would call it anything else. Sony isn't exactly innovative when it comes to naming their shit.

I've been at five platinum trophies for a while now. I just got six more recently one long slog Adventure or Mana and five really easy ones. When do they update the dashboard? I've been checking it for a bit now and it never updates. Kind of frustrating because it used to update every fifteen days. At least I know I'm done my part and I will have enough points for another $10 PSN card.

I need about 7 more silver trophies to complete the Silver pass. Not sure if I'm going to finish this one.
My count currently says 53. I've acquired about 40 more recently if my count is correct.

 
I guess im glad the trophy rewards are gone. I had kicked that need/desire to plat games i like only a few weeks previous to this program, which then got me back into it. Now i can quit again.
 
Lol no wonder they didn't show the PS5 at their show, it's nothing remarkable. Controller gimmicks do nothing for me and I suppose we already knew that the PS5 wouldn't be a huge leap since Pro came out what, 3 years ago now? At least it's fully backwards compatible. Guess we'll find out more next year but as of right now, it sounds about as big of a deal as the X1X when it was announced. Oh and they're late to the 4k player party; already have an X1 /yawn.

TBH I'm rooting for M$ to knock Sony on their ass again because just like always, they're getting lazy again.
