Idk, there are many gamers who love open worlds, it's a reason why many love Playstation. The worlds, the stories all that can't be done in a small game. Not everyone likes shooters, br, etc. Most of the highest rated games take 30 or more hours. A lot of gamers like leveling up, taking time and feeling like you really accomplished something.

You're trapped in a bubble as enemies pour out from both sides of the screen. Pressing square makes your goat-demon-thing do a rushing elbow which is effective if an enemy is close by, but feels awkward in every other situation. Killing enemies fills up a "blood" meter which can be spent on cumbersome special moves or a special rage state where you take out enemies rhythmically (or fail to do that, in my case).

I'm just kind of taken aback by how the game plays. It's a paradox; extremely flat yet at the same time needlessly awkward and clumsy. It looks beautiful, but it doesn't play much like the original Beast. They really, really should have went with the standard Metroidvania template, with enemies scattered throughout the playfield, rather than the ragged stop-start-stop-start gameplay that kills the flow dead and quickly becomes a nuisance. Do you remember Henry Hatsworth for the Nintendo DS? You'd move like a couple of screens, then the scrolling would freeze and you'd fight a bazillion foes barfed out from the sides of the screen. Yeah, that's how the Shadow of the Beast remake feels.

It was two dollars, so I'm not filled with too much buyer's remorse. I bought it to have legal title to the original Shadow of the Beast, which is relatively easy to unlock. Beat the first stage of the miserable slog that is Beast 2.0, and you'll have the points to buy both the Amiga game that inspired it, and a playthrough so you can soak in all the weird Roger Dean-inspired artwork without actually having to play it.

As per IGN....Sony has just updated its verbiage on backwards compatibility for the PS5 in an update on the official PlayStation blog, stating that it now intends to support the "majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles" with backwards compatibility on the next-gen system.

To be honest, the original is pretty shitty as well, even on the Amiga. It looked amazing and sounded amazing, but played like shit (control was good, gameplay was not). I used it to show off my Amiga back in the day, but every attempt to play it was just frustrating. It was that old Psygnosis/British rock hard difficulty, with dangers appearing almost faster than you can react. The second and third one were a little better, but still way too hard and not the right kind of hard like the Souls games (where you can feel progress even as you die over and over).

There are people out there comparing Cerny's presentation to what Don Mattrick did at the unveiling of Xbox One and that's just asinine. Not even on the same planet.

To be fair this meeting was intended for game developers at GDC and was repurposed to an online event due to the circumstances. I do agree they should have retooled it for the mass audience especially since they hyped it. Really they should have revealed it first then done the deep dive, but whatever. They did this same thing with the Pro and had no issues so I guess it doesn't matter in the long run.

This is also fueled by Microsoft and the Xbox fans who are going to jump on any misstep they can. Just the nature of the industry.

To be honest, the original is pretty shitty as well, even on the Amiga. It looked amazing and sounded amazing, but played like shit (control was good, gameplay was not). I used it to show off my Amiga back in the day, but every attempt to play it was just frustrating. It was that old Psygnosis/British rock hard difficulty, with dangers appearing almost faster than you can react. The second and third one were a little better, but still way too hard and not the right kind of hard like the Souls games (where you can feel progress even as you die over and over).

As per IGN....Sony has just updated its verbiage on backwards compatibility for the PS5 in an update on the official PlayStation blog, stating that it now intends to support the "majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles" with backwards compatibility on the next-gen system.

Still want PS1, 2 and 3 BC though.

PS2 might be possible through software-emulation, and PS1 would be a joke ... but PS3 would be nearly-impossible due to big architecture differences between Cell/PowerPC -> x86.

I have played several EDF games but not this one. Have you played one before? They are very cheesy, grindy, but entertaining. Especially if you have a buddy to couch or online coop with. I heard this one has much improved lighting, but smaller maps than usual. I do want to get it however. Check out the ACG review he is probably my favorite reviewer these days.

I’ve never looked into PS3 emulation till just now, but I googled it out of curiosity and the first result was a PC emulator that claims to be able to emulate 1681 (out of 3091 tested) games to completion with no game breaking glitches.

No idea what performance is like, but considering how unstandardized PCs are and that these kinds of emulators are mostly coded by amateurs in their spare time, I would have to imagine that Sony themselves could do significantly better on a PS5 if they actually wanted to.

I disagree. I would much rather have many PS3 games work on my PS5 than have all of the Skylanders/Disney Infinity/whatever games require accessories.

The thing is, they have to get so many higher-priority things in order before they can even tackle this that it would be a while. And realistically, IF they do it it will likely only be so they can sell us "PS3 Classics" piecemeal. So I wouldn't hope for much.

I'd rather have PS3 just because of general PS3 performance. Can only speak for mine obviously but the UI is really sluggish and my console locks up on a fairly regular basis just trying to browse the store. Despite still having a lot of games on it I want to play I don't fire it up much just because it's a pain to use.

I'll grant you shut down online only games (no sense in emulating a dead client, I suppose), but expired licenses don't remove a download from your purchase history. Sony should have planned a BC system that doesn't rely on licenses the way that 360's does (a solution implemented mid-gen, and made complicated by different architecture as opposed to x86 -> x86).
