Doom 64 and Doom 2016 are well worth it. Doom 2016 may be my favorite fps campaign and the Doom 64 port is incredibly well done. i got it as a pre-order bonus for Eternal and wasn't really that excited to play it. But when I started it was so much fun that I played it through all the way. I'd recommend both at these prices without hesitation.

 
Man im so hesitant on buying anything. For one I havent even played my ps4 over a week and that I have a backlog. I'm also hesitant for these lame companies re-releasing this games for ps5 like the Spiderman game. Like buy tomb raider now, they'll probably remaster it. You think they wouldn't be a remaster of games next gen because BC, boy I was wrong.

FYI, Far Cry 6 is $49.99 on Amazon and includes a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Probably will be the same price at Walmart on release next year, but just in case you know you’ll be buying it might be good to lock in the lower price.

WTF. Does manually turning off network settings at the console level block this from happening? Also, do you know if the same issue also affects Doom 64 (Limited Run Games is about to sell a physical copy of Doom 64, so I want to make sure I can actually play it offline without dealing with this garbage)?

So I just started up Doom 64 and played through the entire first level. The only time it attempted to connect to the internet was after all the opening videos ended and I hit the Options button to go into the game. Once I got past that, I was able to go into the Settings, start a new game and play through the entire first level with no issues.

I then unchecked "Connect to the Internet" in my PS4 Network settings and then started up the original Doom. It still attempts to connect every seven seconds, but instead of asking me for sign in information, the blue screen simply says "[Connect To The Internet] Is Off."

Doom 3 has no internet pop-up issues at all.

 
I'm slightly disappointed, as I was looking forward to buying Skyrim for a third time on the PS5. Guess I'll just have to buy it on Xbox Series X.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic. I really don't see it. It's possible, but I believe it's speculation at this point

First party games are first party games. You don't see Mario games on PlayStation consoles. The only reason why Minecraft is on so many consoles, is because it was already on all of those consoles before Microsoft bought them.

I agree that it's speculation right now. I also agree that Microsoft is absolutely leaving the door open for exclusivity (timed or otherwise) with that language.

 
I mean they just put Ori on the Switch.  Microsoft is pretty good about not being shitty when it comes to having their games on other platforms.

It's Kojima's last Konami thing. It set up the big name people working together that went on to do Death Stranding. It's kind of the last Silent Hill game. It's standalone, intentionally. Not actually a demo, but a fully complete short experience. It's terrifying. It's unavailable. It's a coded message from Kojima made and released kind of without approval.

Yeah. It would have been really shitty for them to just drop support for Minecraft on other platforms (3DS, Vita, PS3, PS4) because of the acquisition. It's also a huge money maker.

Microsoft has also been similarly good about honoring existing contracts, like with Outer Worlds, despite acquiring Obsidian before its release. Publishing contracts already existed for PS4, and they didn't try to stop it. I doubt they'd delist games but it may depend on how long the contracts are for and if/when they require renewal. Then there's a game like Elder Scrolls Online where players may have invested lots of money and time and still play it. It would be terrible PR to shut that down, and Phil Spencer doesn't do business that way.

Going into next gen, though, I can't imagine a game like Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 5 being on Playstation. It'll be on PC and if Switch can run it, games like Doom will still be there. This is to expand the Game Pass brand and give people reasons to want to use Microsoft consoles and services.

Highly unlikely ... but expect their new games to be optimized for Xbox and PC (so basically like normal for Bethesda 😉).

Microsoft also owns Minecraft. It had no problems coming out, being updated and sold on the PS Store for pretty much all of their consoles. The only hiccup was Sony's hard headed refusal to allow cross play.

 
Highly doubt Bethesda games will be MS exclusive. As stated in a previous reply, they will most likely be timed exclusives. The one thing MS has going for it is that they are about gaming as a whole, and want everyone to experience things. Sony on the other hand needs to get their head out of their asses and start embracing cross play and cross release more.

Forgot to add, MS is smart to still let them release on PS. They get the profits from sales so having it on MORE than one platform is a no brainer.

For whatever reason, Walmart dropped the price of my DualSense controller preorder from $69.99 to $48.05 to pricematch some price out there without me having to do anything, so that's a nice chunk of change saved.

I'm sure they'll honor existing contracts, but they didn't spend 7 billion dollars to put Elder Scrolls VI on PS5 when Sony has God of War, Spider-Man, and Horizon Zero Dawn.

That remains to be seen, but the only games they've continued to let be on PlayStation is Minecraft and that's because it was already on every platform and now it's full of microtransactions and bloat to make them even more money.

By selling their games to fewer people? Not likely.

Microsoft has a long history of timed exclusivity, even with their own IPs—going all the way back to Halo, which eventually came out on Macintosh. They’re not as interested in permanent exclusives as Sony and Nin, they just want to sell as many copies of their software as they possibly can. When they can do that through exclusivity and forcing others out, they will, but when they’ve got actual competition they can’t get rid of, they’re content to release their software on competitors platforms—eventually—and reap the profits.

They let We Happy Few release on PS4 as well, but that likely had to do with the publishing deal compulsion had with Gearbox

I just read that future Bethseda releases will be on a case by case basis.

I don't see Doom going solely to Xbox. I can see future IP's maybe, but Elder Scrolls online, will for sure still be on Sony.

Agreed. This is interesting news to be sure, but it shouldn't really move the needle much right now. Nobody is running out now to pre-order an Xbox to potentially play a new fallout or elder scrolls game in 3 years. By the time those system seller type games are ready who knows what the console landscape will look like. Maybe Xbox series shits the bed and PS5 is the only option to make real money on games; maybe Nintendo releases an 8k 160fps switch 2 with its own custom built screen and nobody games on anything else. Obviously those are extreme examples but a lot can happen in between Bethesda games.

PS4 got the 'actually playable this time Skyrim version'. But yeah, we're a year and change shy of a decade without a new release. Not all that surprising considering the game is still crazy popular.

Microsoft likes money. They will not allow ES6 to be console exclusive unless they suddenly decide they don't like money. Maybe a timed exclusive. Sony's install base is too large and will be lapping up Ps5s like crazy, be very surprised if that came to pass.

Phil seems more invested in getting games played and getting gamepass on every device possible. I don't foresee that changing.
 
doom or no doom, since i have psn til 2025 (20 buck price error) and over 200 bucks in psn credit thanks to PUR im locked in for ps5 to play new multiplats/sony exclusives for now. pc hasnt been upgraded since 2016 but i should be able to play the odd MS game i wanna play, just in 1080p. 

this is the best fight ms has ever given sony tho.

This 100% ... already played skyrim on 360/pc last generation and the MMO is elder scrolls in name only .... imo there wasn’t an elder scrolls game this generation

i’d like fallout 5 to be a fresh start, new engine, new gameplay, new perks, etc.

Fallout 3 was a buggy mess, but such a great new experience.

Fallout 4 fixed the buggy mess part, but felt like a more polished 3 with less wonder.

Fallout 76 doesn’t appeal to me.

The value of Bethesda to me going forward really depends on their single player experiences.

imo

Skyrim > ESO
Fallout 3 > Fallout 4 > Fallout 76
Doom 2016 > Eternal
Wolfenstein New Order > New Colossus
Evil Within = Evil Within 2


These are concerning quality trends and need to be addressed next gen
