That's a weird complaint. That comes down to a culture thing. In the West, you use X to mark things. In East Asia, you circle to mark things. So they were flipped for pretty much culture reasons alone.

Except it took years for O as cancel and X as confirm to become crystalized in western games. For instance, the first Final Fantasy game that that layout in the west by default was FF9. A lot of earlier games, both western and eastern, didn’t even necessarily limit themselves to those buttons for confirm or cancel in the west. I don’t think it became universal for games released in the west till the PS2.

The N64 was pretty experimental. The controller was weird, there was the rumble pack for it and wasn't there a thing you could put in the system to make it a little more powerful? That was all pretty out there at the time.

I suspect that Sony believes that by removing the wishlist, people won't be able to "wait for it to go on sale" and instead will impulse buy a game when they see it rather than risk forgetting about it and missing out.

As I said, I don’t use the PS Store other than for free items, which for me is either to redeem codes or clicking a link to free stuff from CAG. I wouldn’t know how much worse it is now; only that the checkout process for free items is far better than that load up your cart to 10 items, then checkout nonsense.

When you start a new project, spending a bunch of development effort to bring over a bunch of baggage and bad assumptions from the old product, for no reason other than "duuurrrr, well the old version had it so I just assumed", is the worst possible idea.

It makes perfect sense. Sony is so full of themselves at this point that they think people will buy games at full price if they make it too difficult for them to get it on sale. You, me and everyone else knows that sales help sell games. Like the others have said, places like Steam and Nintendo will tell you when games on your wishlist go sale. But we're not talking about Steam, we're not talking about Nintendo or anyone else. We're talking about Sony here. If Sony knew what was best, they wouldn't have screwed up so badly on the store. If Sony wanted to give a price discount to sell games, they wouldn't have stopped issuing 20%-off coupons. Sony's hubris is getting the better of them and they think they can get away with selling more games at a higher price by cutting out the wishlist. They will eventually learn that's not how it works, but they're not going to learn that lesson until they fail at it first, unfortunately.

You say that but their anti consumer practices do hold merit. The store is a clunky mess before they changed it and thus far the new store isn't an improvement outside of the new quicker check out for free items.

They aren't beta testing either among other things that you are listing in the other comment. What they should have done was keep the old store but offer the switch to the new one for people to try out ahead of time, get feedback and test it then roll out a finalized version instead of this mess.

Removing good features like the wishlist serves no purpose.

And deciding to do all of this just barely ahead of the launch of their new system is definitely a rookie mistake. It would have made more sense to have done whatever they are doing 10 months ago.

The mere fact that a charge fits a narrative that you're predisposed to believe is not evidence for the charge, it doesn't even mean the charge makes any damn sense.

But anyway, I've said my peace: the kind of theories being posited in this thread are, speaking from experience, totally nonsensical and hilarious. Sony's websites do suck, though, and always have. I'll leave it at that and wait for the thread to move on to another topic.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see wishlists coming back after a rework. People seem to have the impression that they've just gone out of their way to remove specific features from the current store. My impression is that it's more like they are building an entirely new storefront from the ground up and we'll see features being added in as Sony is satisfied with them.

I agree with you but Sony is one of the slowest companies to incorporate fixes/changes, just look how long name changes took. Also, Sony doesn't really seem to do interface and store changes except for once per generation, so we are likely stuck with this design for the next 6 years.

One thing, Sony has been terrible about communication in the run up to the PS5. If these features are coming, would it really be so hard to give an outline for their plans if they are indeed what they are planning? They act like everything has to be a big surprise/reveal.

Well now I feel like you're making my point for me. Yeah, I agree Sony is slow and their websites are buggy and a mess, and no I don't think any extra features will be quickly forthcoming at all.

But I mean, we had people in here literally claiming Sony doesn't want people to buy games on sale and devised a whole scheme to stop people from buying games on sale . Any online retail website worth its salt has a 'wishlist' or 'favorite' feature. I don't think Sony would permanently eliminate the wishlist from its store--it's a valuable tool for reminding both casual gamers and hardcore gamers that there's a deal on a game they want. But just as importantly, it lets the retailer know what items people would like to see on sale and can help them gauge which items will draw people to the website when they go on sale. It's like driving foot traffic--even if they don't get the wishlist item when it goes on sale, they might end up getting something else.

I expect the wishlist will return once Sony gets the PlayStation Store properly sorted...whenever that is. In the meantime, I took the games off my wishlist last week and put them in my wishlist on TrueTrophies. Not ideal, but it does notify when wishlist items go on sale and so it'll do for now. *shrug*

I have been looking at it and I was able to download a "demo" yesterday night on PSN that lets you play for 5 hours first. So far I can only compare it to the last UFC game I played, Undisputed 2010, and that game was far better. This game just feels too complex and unintuitive.

All I really want right now is a new Fight Night.

A bit disappointed that the Demon’s Souls remake won’t have the sixth Archstone restored. Seemed like a great opportunity to either add content to the base game or set up a DLC expansion. I can understand wanting to stay faithful to the original vision, but it always sounded like that content was planned but cut due to budget or time.
