So far my external drive has been working ok on my PS5 without any corruption or rebuilds (knock on wood).  I leave it plugged in, but I don't use rest mode (powering up and down doesn't take long).

There's speculation that the PS5 doesn't play nicely with certain chipsets.  I'm using the OIMaster brand enclosure from Amazon with a 2TB Western Digital Blue SSD.

I play Mile Morales without problems in PS5. Just to be safe I always close the game before putting the PS5 in rest mode.

Might also be HD size too. I have a 2TB plugged in and use rest mode and haven’t had issues. Never had a rebuild or anything like that.

Most media no matter what it is follows a story, and a narrative and a theme, and rarely deviates... that’s how concise storytelling works.

I mean I guess they could have turned the game into a slapstick comedy halfway through but I think you are just trolling anyway and I’m wasting my time.

As someone who has PTSD, TLOU2 was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever played, right up there with Mad Max Fury Road which is another great example of telling a story with a character who has PTSD/mental illness and portraying it well, not to mention Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice.

If you don’t suffer from PTSD/trauma/depression/anxiety and or hate mild “progressive” inclusions (omg gay ppl and trans ppl exist omg this is so radical!1!1!1) then I guess I can see why a lot of people wouldn’t like it as much as I did.

Whatever floats your boat man, I’m just happy it got made at all. Could give two shits what others think about it. But the fact is, there are things people like that other people don’t. You don’t have to like everything. And you don’t have to constantly shout your opinions about what you do and don’t like. Few people are going to care except you.

The only reason I responded to this is because this board and most “gaming” forums have a fetish about dragging this game at every turn and it makes me laugh that people are still crying about it this far along. Get over it and find something new to talk about. I loved the game and don’t talk about it as much as you trolling snowflakes do.

Oh while we are on topic, anyone think it’s worth it to but the RE3 unlock items thingy for $5? I only really wanna play it through once, and I was wondering if you can set it to highest difficulty and just use rocket launcher/unlimited ammo from the start.
 
A narrative is a slave to its theme when the theme drives the narrative transparently to a desired conclusion in order to make a point instead of the narrative being arranged to flow to its conclusion logically while remaining internally consistent and portraying its thesis subtly.

TLOU2 Spoilers follow.

- Nothing about TLOU2's theme is portrayed subtly; the theme is screamed at you the entire time you're trying to play. The first time I heard people calling out their friends' names it was interesting but not just 15 minutes later they'd already overdone it. An hour after that it was honestly comical.

- What situations people live and die from feel downright arbitrary. Tommy gets shot in the head in the middle of a hurricane and a war, without a friendly doctor in sight, and somehow makes it back across so much terrain. By comparison, they just unceremoniously kill off Jessie out of no where.

- Things just kind of happen without explanation that seem pretty implausible. Ellie ends up on an idyllic farm with tons of sheep in the middle of no where and the narrative frames it as her refusing to choose the perfect life in the name of revenge. As if that place wasn't essentially a death trap with just two adults living there.

- So many plot points only exist to create parallels between Ellie and Abby. Dinah's pregnancy is the most clear, absurd example but there are so many more.

I envy you if you can play through the game, suspend your disbelief, and wonder what's going to happen next, but I wasn't able to have that experience by and large. I don't want to see the author's hand at work, I just want to enjoy something moment to moment, follow the story organically, and wonder what it could mean later.

Another point, here's some quotes from TLOU2 marketing on the Amazon and PSN store pages:

Why play the game after reading that? You already know what they're going to try to do. There's no shock, no suspense. It's very hard to try to surprise your audience when you lay out your intent so clearly and then follow it so plainly.

Hmm I’m just worried about my data being wiped out. I’d rather take a risk playing miles morales and just did that playing on performance rt mode no crashes yet. Been playing on fidelity so maybe that’s why, and there’s no updates Ofcourse. I guess I’ll just finally use my external once I’m actually starting to finish some next gen games lol my backlog is real

I’ve actually been playing it through Apple Arcade on my Apple TV. It’s a great game. Traversal is fantastic and unique. Kind of has the feeling of Journey meets Zelda.

My buddy picked it up and I tried it out. He absolutely loved it and said it was one of the more refreshing gaming experiences he had in a while. I only played a small chunk and I'm not entirely sure it's the kind of game for me but I can see the appeal. Very pretty visuals, smooth seamless gameplay that can hook you in mixed with clever puzzles and some great boss fights. I'd suggest watching some gameplay before you decide. I definitely wouldn't spend full price on it but could see myself picking it up on sale maybe
 
The Pathless is my next game after I wrap up Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Surprised more people aren't talking about Immortals its going to be high up on my game of the year list. Fun gameplay and it looks amazing. I'm enjoying it more than Breath of the Wild the game it's heavily inspired by.

Immortals is great, and a solid new IP for Ubisoft. I think it releasing between Valhalla and Cyberpunk really hurt it’s momentum.

Yeah, they know they will get this sorted out. Better to refund now the people that are really unhappy, and they will probably pick up the sales again once things get sorted out. The Witcher 3 was a mess for a while after release, some crashing bugs, performance was iffy, lots of broken quests - but it got better and is part of many libraries out there, pretty much required playing if you like that kind of game now. In a few months last gen consoles will be smoothed out and more people will upgrade, last gen will never be an ideal experience, but even in the past week I understand it has gotten a lot better. Cd Projekt Red do not release throw away titles, they put love into it for quite some time.

 
Yeah, LOL. Credit where due, but it sure doesn't earn a blanket "good people" judgment, and one has to remember the "caving under enormous pressure" factor as well.

Companies do NOT offer large-scale mea culpas and mass refunds of their own happy free will.

 
The refund offering isn't real for everyone though.

I tried my brother's copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on PC; it didn't run too well on my PC so I decided to buy it on PS5. I went digital. Booted it up, and it ran at 60 FPS but was kinda ugly even compared to my shitty 5 year old PC running it at 30-40 frames. I was willing to wait for the PS5 version while suffering ugliness until it crashed on me within the first hour yesterday and hardlocked my whole console for awhile. It was unpleasant and worrisome. So I asked for a refund today after Red's post and PSN Customer Service made me wait in line for a long ass time after erroring out every time I tried to get into queue. Finally, they just told me that there would be update in a few months every month for a few months until it worked well.

Ultimately I had to tell a pretty extreme lie about why I couldn't wait a few months in order to get them to refund me and they said pretty plainly they wouldn't be doing it again.

Picked up an extra DS4 back button attachment from Amazon for $19.99.  I'm playing my PS4 games on PS5 with a DS4 because I need those back buttons.

They will when talks of the impending lawsuits that will take place after such egregious, deceitful moves CDPR made (including statements by their CEO that the "current generation systems run surprising well") leading up to the console launches.

They knowingly withheld the console version from reviewers to preserve preorders. They deserve no slack or credit. What they released was broken and they knew that. They deserve to have their reputation tarnished just as much as EA or Ubi for this shit.
 
Sony deserves to be tarred with this shit too. They shouldn't release software on their digital storefront you can buy that crashes your console reliably. The whole point of consoles is that they don't crash! You don't have to fiddle with them, they just work. It's inexcusable that Sony is trying to sell a game that does that to their hardware and they don't want to refund it.

This isn't an excuse but what I kind of think happened here is that the game version that went "gold" was incredibly broken and CDPR told Sony and Microsoft that it was delayed so they could fix all of the issues with a day 1 patch. The game launch was probably too anticipated for Sony and Microsoft to deny and they let it go forward without rejecting certification. This is all speculation but I don't see how it was certified unless they were just sort of trusting CDPR to make things right, they couldn't have possibly tested this game especially pre-patch and thought it was fine to sell. Whatever did happen, they all look like scammers as a result.

Edit: Did some research and my guess was right, from a translation summary of CDPR's conference call with investors today "Regarding certification, CDPR answers that first parties [MS, Sony] were counting on issues being fixed, and that the issue lies on CDPR's end in that regard."

Was going to say the exact same thing: what I think is most significant about this is the failure of Sony and Microsoft's certification systems. 

The certification system is real and extremely strenuous when they choose to enforce it, but apparently they throw it completely out the window for a big-ticket title like this. I see this as a very, very bad sign for the future of console gaming.

It seems like this was destined. Early Access is an increasingly common thing on PC. There is essentially zero quality control on the PC even on a closed platform like Steam, and things like performance aren't as important when you can just tell people it's their fault and they need to buy newer hardware. But with people watching games on Twitch you can't really keep the console and PC worlds separate anymore.

Clearly the only options here were either severely cutting back on the ambition in this game (not a good option), or doing a delayed console release: a PC release now, and a console release months later down the line after they've done a lot of work patching the game to work better on lower spec hardware. It seems like Sony and Microsoft wanted the game on their consoles on day one more than they cared to uphold their certification standards.

Once PSN issues a refund on a game they revoke the license to your account. The game will still be in your library but will have a lock on it and the BUY button reactivates in the store. I know this as I was approved for a refund for CP2077 Saturday morning.

Immortals reminds me of Starlink (coincidentally free on PC today in Ubisoft's Happy Holidays promotion): both new IPs that Ubisoft has put out to die. I loved Starlink (got the Star Fox pack for Switch) and was really disappointed that it sold so poorly. I know people argued it failed because it missed the toys-to-life boat, but you didn't even need the toys to play it due to the digital deluxe version having all the content. Hell, even without that, you were fine (and come on, if you love Star Fox, you're totally getting the Arwing toy). The real problem was that Ubisoft didn't advertise it properly and just let it fail.

Now, we've got Immortals, another good new IP (I haven't played it yet but have heard great things) that was dropped right in between Valhalla and Cyberpunk, as camperinabush pointed out, so even with the decent amount of advertising it's been getting, it's just destined to fail in sales. It's like when EA released Titanfall 2 between Battlefield and Call of Duty. Could these companies please stop competing against themselves? It makes actual great games fail!

Anyway, I can't wait for a year or two from now when Ubisoft launches another new IP that looks better than their other games, but does it right next to the new Tom Clancy or something and it fails. They do not have the best business sense in the world.
