No The Drop this week, which confirms what was said on the PS Blogcast last week about there being no new releases this week.
But there are going to be new holiday sales this week right? Did they say anything about what the games might be?
Here's what people need to realize about how companies treat consumers. The late-comer is generally going to get a better deal than existing customers, early adopters and whoever purchased before them, even if it was not anybody's intention to do that.

In the context of the PlayStation 3, I'll use myself as an example. I became a PS3 owner with the recent holiday bundle. It came with four games. Existing games are discounted and/or had their MSRP's reduced. I got three free months worth of PS+. Compare this to the person who paid five hundred and ninety nine US dollars several years ago. What is the difference? The only real difference is time. That person has had access to the hardware and software longer, and what I think you'll find is that this often means jack shit once time passes.

As time marches on and the PS4 is released, future PS3 owners will get an even better deal than me when the last hardware iteration is released and the damn thing is $99 and comes with four of the console's best games. And as an Xbox 360 early adopter, the current Xbox 360 buyers are getting a better deal than I did as long as they are people who do not buy into this stupid idea of being first or having the latest thing.

It's a balance one should pay attention to, and it does not pay to be one of the first customers. Pick your battles. Pick where you want to be the second/third/fourth batch of customers in line (NEVER be first) and pick where you want to hold off. There are assholes that want to be first for everything and they are known as Apple customers.
Amen. Now everyone stop bitching. You're on Cheap Ass Gamer, not I'm Gonna Bitch Because Someone Got A Better Deal Than Me. CAG has a much better ring than IGBBSGABDTM
But there are going to be new holiday sales this week right? Did they say anything about what the games might be?
Yes, there will be deals and maybe some other smaller things in the update, but no new games. We only know about Retro City Rampage for $9.99 and Papo & Yo as a part of the Holiday Essentials sale this week. There will be more information about sales tomorrow when the PS+ Update is posted and then the normal PS Store update later after that.
Read or reread ponn01's post above. He lays it out perfectly. I think that if you feel burned by PS+ or Xbox Live or anything like this, you did not do your due diligence and you are the one to blame. I think the biggest change one must make in their life in order to be the cheapest gamer is to be patient. This means buying new release games is off the table, period. This means learning how things work, doing your homework, judging when a deal is the deal. Only you know what is best for you, and don't blame anyone else for your mistakes.
The one thing that I do, however, lay solely at the feet of Sony and not the individual is the fact if you've gotten a game off the IGC and it later leaves the IGC and goes on a regular sale, you cannot purchase that game to keep. I dont know why they wont let you *give* them money. I wonder if they are even aware of this 'negative loophole', because it seem like something they would have tried to address.
It doesnt bother me so much that a game I just bought is now free for ps+, as I may not continue my ps+ membership and I will still have the game. What pisses me off is that they dont offer a choice of games, they just tell you this one is free and if you already have or its something you would never buy...oh well nothing for you this time then. I dont see why they can't offer us a choice of 1 of 2 games like they did when they got hacked and had the welcome back package. Is it that hard to implement this?
In a way we are getting that by having multiple games a month. If you want, you can tell yourself that you can only download Bioshock 2 or SSFIV this month.

I need a bigger haed drive so it discourages me from downloading some stuff. Would I be able to get an external hard drive for my ps3 so I wont have to deal with transferring everything over?

Nope.

I ended up buying...

Rayman Origins (Vita and PS3)
Two Worlds 2
Gungnir
Dokuro

Such an awesome deal, hope they can somehow top it again this week.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10157430&postcount=7

I went ahead and made a referential list of a certain something that people have been wanting for a while now, though I still have some things I'd like to do to improve it (prices mainly). I may also use that post for more referential stuff in the future, which will prompt a new thread once some of my ideas to overhaul the OP start to materialize.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the work you put into this thread every week, I've always found it very useful as a reference. I know you get a ton of moaning and bitching about this and that, but it's always been great for me.

The one thing that I do, however, lay solely at the feet of Sony and not the individual is the fact if you've gotten a game off the IGC and it later leaves the IGC and goes on a regular sale, you cannot purchase that game to keep. I wasn't aware of this. Kind of scary actually. I think it's more of a bug than anything else that they aren't really aware of. Like I said before, they are just awful at online distribution planning.

Unfortunately I already have Bioshock 2 on disc and dont like fighter games . Seriously though, I dont think its too hard for them to offer the same amount of games they do now while allowing us a choice. Sure some months I may not like the choices but I can still choose the one I might play or avoid the one I already own. Thats value and a happy customer, and offering 2 games is really only costing them 1 as you can't have them both (win/win). It just seems so obvious I dont understand why they dont do it.
do you need to do anything special to activate cross buy or is it auto for qualifying games?
No. You buy one version and both are added to your download list.

Because offering choices requires them to negotiate with publishers to include even more titles that may or may not be chosen by people. I may be wrong but I think after the hack, all the titles offered were first or second party developed titles which makes negotiating deals a lot easier.

I don't know if it is "so obvious", but the business logistics involved are complicated and are probably not worth the effort to them. They have enough trouble with their current system planning and deploying things.

Does anyone know if Two Worlds II is vastly inferior to the PC version? That $5 price along with no ridiculous DRM is tempting.

I really would like to pick up Rayman, but my problem is the lack of storage space on my Vita.

The fact that I would have to remove games to be able to play it is actually preventing me from picking it up.

I'm going to have to hope that the retail version will drop to $15 at some point soon so that I don't miss out on the game.

Didn't someone on here say a few pages back that Best Buy PSN codes are emailed to you? Hoping I get mine before Gungnir is no longer on sale.

Just do it. Rayman is the best game on the system by far. You can always put those older games back on later.

If I were you, I'd buy the bigger size card (if you don't already have the biggest) and sell my old one, especially if you plan to keep the games you buy.
boy do I regret having bought that AC3 bundle at launch... half price :whistle2:( shit
#1 CAG rule is never buy games at launch if your main goal is to save money, that being said, what you pay for is to play the game first if you can't wait. I bet you already beat it too so don't feel too bad!

This x2.

When I could afford it I almost always jumped on pre-orders and such to make absolutely sure I could be playing ASAP. Even when my backlog was already massive. Now, that only happens for must-haves which is incredibly rare.

Any chance of a Journey sale anytime soon? Haven't really been keeping up with PSN sales but I have money in my wallet and been waiting for Journey to go on sale. Are the sales up on the store now all that's coming for this holiday or is there a chance for more?

Answer: Gamefly

They sent me Hitman & Farcry 3 on launch. Beat the latter, still working on Hitman.
I'd definitely buy Farcry 3 in the future at a lower price though because there were tons of side stuff to do.

I thought it'd at least be half off by the holidays, but I guess not. That, Sound Shapes, Papo & Yo, and Okami could use a discount.

Journey's selling VERY well and keeps winning awards and it's barely been discounted since release. They might do another small discount because of the VGAs but I wouldn't hold your breath for half off.

Capcom can be a little stingy with downloadable game discounts that aren't Resident Evil, but who knows.

Fingers crossed for sales on:

Disgaea 3 Vita
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Super Stardust Vita
Journey
Unfinished Swan

Is there an emoticon for a little dude praying to the PSN Gods? If so, insert HERE.

Jesus Christ (its Christmas after all, ho ho ho) so many people like to complain about VIDEO GAME SALES.

Pro tip: If your not going to play the game now or in the near future...DONT fuckING BUY IT. Games get cheaper as time goes on.

And if you want to play your fucking $5 PSN game 10 years from now buy it then it comes out at full price so you dont have to worry about losing it if you dont like Plus in a few years. Holy shit the whining...

How many people will respond about it being the CAG way to build up a backlog of unplayed games...only to whine about having no time to play them.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012...s-week-2-of-awesome-deals-on-essential-games/

I hope you enjoyed your first week of deals on PS3 and PS Vita games for our Holiday Essentials Sale. As I mentioned in our previous post, we’re bringing you some of the best PlayStation games at great prices to help you stock up for the holidays.

This week we’re providing you with 16 awesome action/adventure games along with other essential PlayStation titles. For great prices you can take part in Starhawk‘s frenetic space combat and multiplayer battles, relive two of Kojima’s most acclaimed titles in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, or bend your mind with the award-winning Journey. In addition, PlayStation Plus delivers an extra special deal this week – we’re offering members Retro City Rampage for absolutely nothing. Moreover, Retro City Rampage features Cross-Buy, which means that when you purchase either the PS Vita or PS3 version, you get the other version at no additional cost!

As a reminder, you can save 30%—or up to 50% for PlayStation Plus members—on the action-packed lineup this week. On top of the titles below, we’ll have a whole new set next week to close out the sale and ring in the New Year. Don’t wait, though, because these games will only be on sale for one week—now through 12/30.
