In my honest (how about them apples?) opinion the problem with indies isnt that they arent good fun.  The problem is that I would feel like a moron for buying a brand new shiny system with lots of horsepower...only to play games like Niddhog ( fuck the spelling if thats wrong) to play on it.  I dont want to buy a new system with more bells and whistles only to play games that they can make on a mobile device.

Thats just my honest opinion bitches.

Again, I like indies and smaller games, but only as filler between the GTAs and Infamous's of the world.

I am not sure I totally agree with this, there are some slight nuances with people from Wisconsin. I do not think the accent is as crazy as what you normally get in Minnesota, the UP, or the Dakotas though.

With that said, you guys annoy the shit out of me with the bubblers and the "on line" instead of "in line" nonsense.

Good examples here of the words that seem a bit off with in Wisconsin.

Note that I am not making fun. I grew up in the south. I speak the rare dialect known as hick of the 'Murican base language.
What is this in line on line thing you speak of? Not familiar. Though I will give you bubbler. I still say it, but don't completely understand it.

Back in '89, I moved from Wisconsin to Maine. In WI we called Pepsi and Coke and all the others "pop." In Maine when I asked for a pop they looked at me funny and told me it's called "soda." Now back in the Midwest (MN) it's usually soda everywhere. Shit's weird. Shit's cyclical. But mostly shits' weird.

Definace is going F2P in July. I almost bought it for $5 a while ago on the off-chance I'd ever check it out, but then someone commented it would be going F2P eventually, which I figured was true based on how many huge discounts it has had.
If it was $5, you were probably better off with the disc. A download would eat up at least 10GB of hard drive space, even more with new patches.

The Chrono Trigger load time question joke has definitely more than run it's course. Not unlike how most scripted AAA games go on way too long.

In my honest (how about them apples?) opinion the problem with indies isnt that they arent good fun. The problem is that I would feel like a moron for buying a brand new shiny system with lots of horsepower...only to play games like Niddhog
It's best, then, for you to avoid Indies lest you learn the truth. ;)

Every person I know from Wisconsin says they are on line when waiting for something in a line of people. Before you ask, no there is no line on the ground to be physically standing on. I only know this because I have waited in line to buy beer in Wisconsin on a few occasions.

As far as the pop and soda thing, if you ever go to the south say Coke even if it is a Pepsi. We are brand loyal down here.

I have lived in FL my whole life and always found it weird when someone form the northern midwest would ask or talk about "pop" instead of soda. Shit is real weird.

I've never heard that on line vs in line shit. That's weird. When my wife went to Charlotte for a work training thing they all made fun of her "accent", so maybe that does have some legs, though she's born and raised MN. I guess I'll see what they think of mine when I go down there in a few weeks.

Also Coke sucks.

Then you would have loved the slogan for a local soft drink company that said "Jolly Good puts the Pop in Wisconsin!"

I don't get it either.

But at least the Brewers are the best team in baseball. We have that going for is, which is nice.

This is almost for sure right. And if it's right, it's stupid they chose to label it an "exclusive" in the first place. Maybe they think getting all the WiiU fanboys tugging each other off over it is worth leaving the Sony fanboys limp and dry.
It sounds like it's due to the way people assume the word exclusive means some big money deal was made to lock it up forever and ever, but indies generally don't do that unless they don't really have the means to fund such things and I don't think Curve's in that sort of situation. Curve wrote up a blog post on their own site to clarify things to make it pretty clear what's going on:

That’s right – we’ve been working on this one for a little while now, but now we can finally announce our own original title, Stealth Inc, will be getting a HUGE sequel that’s due out later this year. We don’t have a lot of details to share yet, but we can tell you a few things:

  1. The game will be MUCH larger – we’re keeping all the action and pacing of the original test chambers, but we’re expanding the game with a ‘Metroidvania’ style overworld, allowing players to break out of the test chambers and exploring the mysterious testing facility for the first time!
  2. We’ll be including a full co-operative mode to the game which will use the Wii U Gamepad, and we’ll have much more information on how this will work in the coming months.
  3. The game will feature a full level editor and level sharing which will let you make levels just as detailed and complex as anything you can find in the game itself.
Over the next few months, we’ll have a ton more information out on the game so stay tuned to our Twitter Account for up-to-date information on Stealth Inc 2 and all our other many projects. In the meantime, you can check out some early concept art and a quick FAQ below!

Why the Wii U?

We explain this in various interviews today (CVG, Joystiq) but the short story is that we’ve never been a Sony exclusive developer, and have always loved working with Nintendo. Before Sony became a big name for indie developers, we had released two full games on both the Wii and 3DS – so we’re no strangers to making games with Nintendo. Nintendo as a company truly love and care about games, they’ve been wanting to see Stealth Inc come to the platform for many years, and we’ve finally now had an opportunity to work with them again!

Is Curve abandoning PlayStation?

We’ve already released 1 game on PlayStation 4 this year, and have 3 new PlayStation releases coming out before the end of July. Only yesterday we announced MouseCraft would be coming to PS4 as a Cross-Buy title, and we hope to be releasing and announcing many more games during 2014 – we have no plans at all to stop making PlayStation games.

In the last 2 years, we’ve released games on Android, iOS, 3DS and Steam and yet we remain one of the largest publishers of Vita titles in the world and have no intention of giving up that claim any time soon!

How will the game be available?

Stealth Inc 2 will be available as a download only title through the Nintendo eShop.

Will the game come to other platforms?

Right now, we’re focused on making the best Wii U game we can make, including working on some great hardware specific features for the game and aren’t looking at other formats.

I do understand where you're coming from, but the solution is don't buy the system and STFU (not you specifically, but people that are constantly complaining about it online.) Buy the system in 3 years when there are enough games on the system that you want.

And if you bought the system for its "potential" and not the games currently or soon available, then you're just a fuck ing idiot.

If it was $5, you were probably better off with the disc. A download would eat up at least 10GB of hard drive space, even more with new patches.
Regardless of Frisky's comment, I was talking about the $5 PSN sale so it would have been eating up hard drive space anyway.

You do realize that MMOs install to the disc, right? You'd need the space either way.
You mean the disc isn't required after installation? I don't think that's true. I'll try it myself this weekend. In any case, early adopters are going to be showered with gifts during the free-to-play switch, so I think that's worth $5 and definitely the $2.50 it's been on PS+.

I agree. This is why I havent bought a PS4 yet since its still full price (new) and only has one game (infamous) I really want to play on it that I cant get elsewhere. So I will wait. Just like I did with PS3. Good times.

Half the people living in Charlotte now have moved here from the midwest, so they probably will think nothing of your accent. But don't worry, you still have one.

Yeah, I read that blog post but still not 100% positive what to make of it. They never once described Stealth 2 as an "exclusive", I almost think that's done by the firestarters at IGN and other media outlets who know exclusive = controversy = arguments = comments & clicks.

Still, I don't see why that last line doesn't read, "Right now, we’re focused on making the best Wii U game we can make, including working on some great hardware specific features for the game and look forward to bringing the game to other gaming platforms in the future if the resources and demand are there." It's 100% non-commital without using an exclusive phrase like "[we] aren’t looking at other formats."

That's where the flag was raised for me. Or maybe I'm just way better at PR than Curve is.

I can drink both Pepsi or Coke.  I really dont care much which one I drink.  Its funny because when I go out to eat and they ask me what I want to drink, I will say "coke or pepsi is fine" and nearly every time the waiter/tress will act like I asked them a question.  "Coke, is that okay?"  or "Pepsi, is that okay"?

I just used way to many commas and quotation marks.  I am burned out now.  No more apostrophes the rest of the night!

The hyperbolic nature of the anti-indie thing is what bugs me. Now that people know that Nidhogg exists, every indie game looks like it and none of them look like the blockbuster games that the PS4 can handle.

I'll just post a little list here of indie games that aren't "blurry pixels" or whatever terms people use to dismiss indie games:

There are a lot of indie teams making 2D games because it's easier, cheaper, and it's influenced by their childhoods with the old consoles/PCs/whatever.

Done with Guacamelee! (aside from the DLC, which doesn't really interest me). I hope they make a sequel, as it was very fun to play to 100% completion. I didn't even find the platforming or Jaguar Javier (sp?) all that difficult. :whistle2:

an opinion is just a fact stated without balls.
A fact is usually just the opinion of an idiot.

That sounds terrible. Definitely killed any curiousity I had about the game.
It shouldn't. The game itself is a pretty fantastic match 3. If you want 100% completion of the hero/monster compendiums, though... it's a massive grind. Just playing the game itself is not.

Orange and/or grape sodas are the best types of soda. Imported Fanta made w/ cane sugar is up at the top of the list. Some root beers also are top tier. This is my opinion and nobody can disagree, nana nana poo poo.

Because they'd like to sell it on the Wii U and not just tell people to not buy the first version because it's not on the platform they assumed it would be on. Most developers that make exclusives that will eventually go elsewhere when deals end or they have the time to do the work take that approach.

That's why the Rayman Legends "controversy" was so stupid because anybody that thought about it for a minute would realize that it was going to come to PS3, Xbox 360, etc. later on, but they wanted to make something just for the Wii U to take advantage of that launch window where nothing comes out.

Honestly, I had a harder time against
Calaca's first form
until I realized I needed to quicken my reaction times and double-jump over his shockwave rather than futilely attempting to dodge it on the ground.

Once I got into the groove against Javier, his boss fight was quite enjoyable, especially since I love the combat system.

I think the concern that most people have with indies (of those who have concerns) is that it feels like they are being focused on by Sony to the exclusion of bigger budget games. While i'm sure that's not true, it is understandable how some people would think this given that Sony is announcing new Indie games coming almost on a daily basis. By default, the number of AAA announcements will pale in comparison, so it might feel like the PS4 is just focusing on those smaller games.

The truth is that if the indies didn't exist, we probably wouldn't see many more (if any) additional bigger budget titles at this point in the console life cycle. Or we would just see more games haphazardly slapped together to fill the release date calendar.

Here's the deal. I live in eastern Ohio. I spent a good 2/3 of my life vehemently denying that I have any accent whatsoever, despite people from different parts of the country telling me otherwise. Through a combination of: traveling around the country myself, anecdotal evidence from friends and family, listening to A TON of podcasts, and a lot of soul searching, I've come to one conclusion.

EVERYONE HAS AN ACCENT. Everyone.

Now I know you're thinking to yourself, "He's right, people do all have accents...except me. I know I don't have one though."

YES YOU fuckING DO! You have an accent. I have a accent. Your buddy has an accent. YOUR fuckING MOM HAS AN ACCENT.

Ok...let's take it down a notch. Here's the thing about accents: You can't hear your own accent. Your voice sounds completely normal and accent free to you and everyone in your geographical region. The farther away you travel from that region, the more apparent your accent becomes to others, AND VICE VERSA.

So stop lying to yourself, and just accept the truth. You have an accent.

Rime looks awesome, it seems to be heavily influenced by Ico which I like.

There are tons more indie developers out there than mid-tier and top-tier developers/publishers. EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Sony, WB, etc can only fund and develop so many games on their own, but there are hundreds of developers, if not thousands, made up of anywhere from one to a few dozen people that can work faster and cheaper than the big boys. Sony themselves have said that they have over 1,000 developers signed up to publish on any of their platforms, so what do you expect them to do?

They just randomly made announcements of a dozen indie titles for the PS4, PS3, and/or Vita that probably will be out this year if not by early 2015 at the latest and that's a drop in the bucket of potential indie games out there. The big publishers can't do that because the games take a few years to complete, cost a ton of money to produce, and they'd never want to share the spotlight with each other outside of a platform holder's press conference at E3 or Gamescom because they're selfish.

There should be enough games that anybody with an open mind to try new things can find plenty of things to play and look forward to and those that can't might want to wait to get the console. The great thing about indies is that they don't have to bend to the pressure of the market and the financial investment involved in making blockbusters, so they can focus on making whatever they want to make whether it's something crazy (Zeno Clash), something retro inspired (Axiom Verge), or something normal on a smaller budget (Blacklight Retribution).

I live in Ohio and I can safely say that I don't have the "warsh" accent that a lot of people seem to have around here. I just say "wash" like a normal person.

This thread has 100 pages and nearly 3000 posts in 13 days.

Yet, so little discussion about deals.

ARE THE LOADING TIMES IN CHRONO TRIGGER REALLY THAT BADDDDDDDDDDD
the white flashes between screens would drive me crazy in CHRONO but still tempted to buy it

was going to buy it

Look it up on utube and you will see how bad the loading times are... its just too bad it killed the game

There's no denying you save money by waiting. But there's something, I dare say, *priceless* about enjoying games as they release. Being part of the conversation as it unfolds. Hell, it was even exciting waiting for this week's firmware update. Last gen I didn't have the time or money to jump into until 2011. While it was great getting an improved, cheaper ps3 with a throbbing "log" of games, I missed out on a lot since there simply wasn't enough time to get to everything. Red Dead Redemption also got fuck ing spoiled for me. So I guess it just depends on how heavily you weigh these kinds of things. I don't mind the so-called drought...I just want quality stuff. No more Killzones, pls, Sony. I wouldn't say people are missing out on much at the moment, but I also don't see the price going down anytime soon. Obviously you should make the move when it makes sense for you, but price doesn't have to be the only determining factor (even as a CAGgots).
