Can't decide to get Child of Light on PS4 or X1. The remote play on vita makes me lean towards PS but I usually prefer xbox. Any suggestions?
PS4.

Eh, as I said in that thread, I can wait for it to drop to $14.99/$11.99 GCU at Best Buy (it's that price at Amazon as of this post).
Waiting for $5 like Mortal Kombat.

Driveclub itself is a punchline at this point. I guess we know our free game for October on PS+ at least...

Lots of stupidity in the industry today.  Nintendo not doing an E3 press conference and someone at MS flipped the wrong switch because Amazing Spiderman 2 is available digitally on Xbone.

EDIT: Hmmm...apparently it wasn't a mistake, Spiderman 2 is out for the Bone.  So it's either MS or Activision that looks stupid.

The current image in Tyler's PSNProfiles.com sig reminded me that I didn't pay attention when someone asked about the online pass for GoW:A at the time it was $4.99 at BBY with coupon--is it still valid?

How is Nintendo's decision stupid? Didn't their online "conference" last year score more viewership than Spike's coverage of actual E3 stuff? E3 conferences are pretty much BS now anyway--I only value them for the inevitable "Worst E3 Conferences" videos.

The current image in Tyler's PSNProfiles.com sig reminded me that I didn't pay attention when someone asked about the online pass for GoW:A at the time it was $4.99 at BBY with coupon--is it still valid?

Yeah the GoW Ascension online pass worked for me with no problem.

No idea what the viewership looked like last year, but not really fair to compare online views with Spike TV views, as if nobody watched the Sony and MS conferences online as well. E3 conferences definitely aren't BS in my eyes. Nintendo must think they are and that fans are looking for more digital communication from them or something. Certainly marks a shift in strategy if they're forgoing the conference two years in a row. I still think it's a bad idea to stray from the norm. I'm sure there's already a 5000 post thread on GAF discussing the decision with lots of "Nintendo doesn't even have enough new games to show" comments.

Maybe after Sterling sells his NBA team he could use his money to produce a new NBA video game where you try to send away minorities trying to come to the games. If you get the crowd to 100% white you win.

Also, Nintendo's e3 Direct last year was horribly laggy and I couldn't even watch it for a couple hours after it ended.  I thought the online outrage at that alone would cause them to do a "normal" conference this year, or maybe they will improve the streaming experience this year.

Thanks for the GOW:A online pass info.

Sony's E3 conference is the only one I remember enjoying more consistently compared to others every year, as third-party companies like Ubisoft (and occasionally Microsoft) tend to have pretty lackluster conferences that rely on celebrity star-power. Heck, even Nintendo had an off year during that Wii Music demonstration.

I guess my point is that while I shouldn't have implied all E3 conferences are BS, the majority of them are skippable IMO; I don't mind reading announcements after the fact for practically every conference.

The Sony and MS conferences are the only ones I watch. The publisher conferences usually don't have as much new info to reveal and I usually just read about them. Still, I think Nintendo would be best to have one to rival the Sony and MS conferences.

That's a good point. I doubt there's much improvement from last year. I still get lag when watching Nintendo Directs now. I think the Super Smash Bros run pretty smoothly but that was the first one I'd ever seen that didn't constantly pause and buffer on me. With the E3 web traffic, this E3 one will probably chug as well.

Apple stopped going to conferences years ago because they didn't see much value in them and the cost was high. They just hold their own press conferences and people watch them like crazy. Nintendo I guess is trying to be the same way, but I'm not sure if they have the draw that Apple does.

Hey, we starting the "owning and renting" debate of PS Plus. :-({|=
Nah, you are the one wanting to create drama.

You own it and you get to play it today is what I said, nothing incorrect or false about my statement. If you on the other hand want to create drama and create a tangent about rent/own w/ ps+ just for the sake of internet drama you can start crying a river w/ your violin. :)

Which is the better choice: Totori or Meruru? Looks like Totori has a slightly higher score on Metacritic, so I'm leaning toward that. Definitely picking up one of the two when the sale goes live.
Totori has a more defined story but the game play and mechanics are more refined in Meruru. I played Meruru first even though I already had Totori

After playing Meruru, it is hard getting into Totori. The intro to Totori is very slow like Persona 4/P4G. If you are ok starting at the end of the series I would say Meruru. In Meruru there are a few references to the true ending of Totori.

Slight Spoiler

In Atelier Meruru some of the characters reference Totori's mother's personality.

Nintendo lol. I'm glad I no longer have high hopes or expectations for any of their news. I'm no longer let down every time because I've really stopped caring.

ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT A KNOCK TO ANYONE WHO LIKES NINTENDO, THIS IS MY OPINION.

Can you really own something if you don't have control of it and you can't sell it?

Just trying to get in on the fun here...

I didn't get too many five star ratings until I had almost completed all of the missions and got most of the operatives to level 7 or 8 so don't worry about it too much. You need their higher bonuses to reach that rating.
Oops, I fucked up in that post. I meant I've 5-starred all of the first 21 missions except three of them. And yeah, I read that a maxed out Gunner gets 450 points just for shooting explosives. That'll help.

maybe they should mind their own business. I guess only black people have the freedom of speech today HUH

LOL then they go They should be forced to sell the team for what they paid for it. They should not be able to profit from it. Maybe you should send back your welfare checks then cause these are the same ones who are paying the high taxes allowing you to sit on your asses

Who the fucks cares the moron is a racist now lets get back to what matters

VIDEO GAMES
Wow.

When slidecage calls somebody a moron you know it's bad.
Oddly enough, it's also the most coherent thing he's ever written.

EDIT: I'm not saying I agree with what he says, i'm just saying that it seems like he put more thought and effort into writing that post than anything else i've ever seen him post.

For those curious about the gameplay of Totori and Meruru...  I've only played Totori (and some other related games) but here's the basic rundown-

It's standard jrpg fair turned sideways, with crafting becoming significantly more important than combat.   Every region has various rocks/herbs/whatever to gather, plus enemies patrolling that can either be avoided or fought for their (sometimes rare) drops.

Combat is turn based.  It's actually a pretty decent combat system, although your main character tends to be very reliant on crafted equipment or teammates.   It's not the hardest game in the world, but you can easily enter an area you're not prepared for and get your ass handed to you (which ultimately gives a nice sense of progression when you go back and whoop em).

In town, you get various missions, to kill x of this, or collect y of that.    You can also craft.   There are a bazillion and one things to craft, mostly weapons and armor, but also some incredibly useful overworld type stuff.

And... here is where you'll either love or hate the game... the world is on a timer.   It's an extremely forgiving timer with lots of slack... but it's still a timer.   This is a problem because every time you travel on the overworld it costs time.    Picking something off the ground takes time.  Every combat encounter takes time.    And most of all... crafting takes time.   A lot of it.    We're talking days upon days - even a forgiving timer can feel oppressive when crafting an item might take, say, 20 days.     Need to travel to a region 5 markers away for a rare material?  That travel time alone might be a couple weeks, too.   Even if you're given plenty of time, the sheer amount of time everything takes makes it still feel oppressive at times.

While the main game has a forgiving timer, there are events in the game which do not.   For 100%, you'll need to speak to certain people by 'day x'.  Despite following a guide, I managed to miss one of these and not realize it for quite a long time... very frustrating.

The crafting system itself is pretty fantastic in Totori.  I didn't find it nearly as annoying as some other crafting jrpgs.

You can give a certain number of crafted items to stores and then they'll replicate/sell them to you.   So say you make a basic item but use super-rare awesome ingredients to make it extra awesome.... you give that to the store, then you can buy them.   This is important because now you can use that item to make dozens of other items, and since you made that item with 'trait x', you'll have the option to give that trait to all items you create using it.

The games are excellent -if- you like the goofy-sweet anime style (not really my thing) and like crafting mechanics... and can put up with being timed.   It didn't mesh well with my completionist tendencies, though I still put a ton of hours into it before burning out.

My biggest problem with the game is that it actively punishes combat (it takes time) and I enjoy combat.

If you like the sound of exploring the world, sweet characters/story, and crafting, you'll dig the games.  Probably a lot.   If you have an inherent need for completionism and the idea of trying to micromanage a detailed crafting tree (i need this and this for that, which lets me make this, which...) sounds like it'll drive you crazy... it will.

TLDR Version:

If you're curious about the game, I think it's worth getting one at this sale price.   I wouldn't buy both unless you know you like the genre.

It's ok, I understand if you decide to migrate to the usurper PSN thread. Nobody will judge you.

Awesome. Watching the Steam Train playthrough got me yearning to play it on my Vita. :bouncy:

Although I don't anticipate "Doing Things the Hard Way"; that part alone makes me hope VVVVVV has a plat.
Plat would be awesome but I doubt it. I only played through the main game on PC because it's so easy to control with keyboard and mouse. Can't wait to actually have a controller, looking forwards to trying to 100% it.

Thanks for providing some useful information. It sounds like it would be worth checking out. Now I just need to decide which one to pick up for the Vita. Any reason to prefer one over the other?

The tears in the Golden Week thread are so delicious.
Careful, those might not be tears...

I'd be satisfied if just completing that part netted a Gold trophy (along with getting all of the collectibles).

Muramasa comes to PS+ in EU in May. There's a pretty decent chance it'll hit NA as well. Something to be aware of.
Good point. I already have Dragon's Crown. Anyone with both care to weigh in with whether Muramasa is different enough to warrant a purchase?

-Edit- Ok, after looking over some playthrough videos and reading reviews (again), I think I'll grab this. It's more of a pure action rpg vs DC's somewhat slower pace.

I have both, but haven't played either yet.

Wait, don't go! I can still give some input: Based on what I know of both titles, Muramasa is definitely different enough that you'd get a different experience from it. It's a single-player game, so it focuses more on plot compared to Dragon's Crown, and the action-oriented gameplay is on a 2D plane vs. DC's arcade-style 2D-ish plane.

I recommend watching gameplay videos to determine if it piques your interest.

One of my favorite 3DS games. Probably won't double dip until a deep sale, but I'm glad more peeps get to experience it.
PS+ or bust.

As far as which the games go in three title arcs that are interrelated with Totori being the first of this arc. I've only played some of Totori so I can't comment on if Meruru is dependent on it at all for full appreciation or not.
Totori is second in the Arland series. It goes Rorona->Totori->Meruru.

Muramasa can be repetitive at times but it's still an easy recommendation at $7.50.  I actually think the fact that it's on sale for so cheap now is a sign that it won't be part of PS+ any time soon.  Maybe I just put too much faith in Sony.

Puppeteer, Stealth Inc., and Velocity Ultra would like to have a word with you.

Oh, FYI, Meruru takes two playthroughs to get the true ending. Totori technically you can get the true ending in one, but then you have to follow a guide step by step.

It's not like the Hyperdimension games where you can just play, trigger a few events at key sections and get the true ending.

Thanks for the response. MR also seems to have more of an exploration mechanic ala metroid-vania whereas DC has a strict mission structure with only a few alternate paths to take.

I would have agreed with you, but so many games over the last few months have gone on sale to being on PS+ within months that I don't doubt Sony would do it again. I'm used to it so it's not a huge loss when they do.

Yes, you're doing everything wrong.

Try again around 5pm EST.
Thanks. Just got a PS3, so I don't have experience with Sony's sale schedule.

As long as I'm on here, the console I bought only has 12GB flash memory. Can anyone recommend a HDD? Are there limitations to what the PS3 can handle (size, speed, etc)?

No worries. Sorry for sounding snippy.

Seriously. Tyler, are the people in the Golden Week thread sapping your IQ? I find it strange you'd forget all of these. :dunce:
I skimmed that thread and now feel dumb enough to ask this question: What time does the sale go live? I bought all of those games and the discount didn't apply. How do I get amazon credit for this?

All PS3/PS4/Vita cross-buy. Stoked on The Swapper.
As you should be (I look forward to seeing if you crack, Mr. Puzzle Master).

If you're so scared of getting a rebuttal that you need to spell out it's just your opinion, why are you posting on a public forum?

Why couldn't you use a controller on PC? There are DS3 drivers for Windows that work great.
