I'll always go retail-first until it's no longer an option.  Generally cheaper and resell value will always outweigh portability, clutter (of which I have none since my games are nicely organized in a case), listening to a disc spin  :roll: , and having to stand up to put a game in.

There's a trade-off between the pros and cons of physical and digital
 
Digital
+ Occasional great prices (flash sales, etc.)
+ You can't sell it (and regret it later)
+ Can't be lost, stolen, damaged, etc.
+ Cloud storage for easy retrieval (depending on service)
+ No disc swapping
- Generally more expensive
- You have to download it
- You can't sell it
- Not lendable
- Possibility of service going out of business
- Not valuable to anyone but the first person to buy it
 
Physical
+ Generally cheaper
+ Feels good actually have a physical product
+ Resellable
+ Can be lent to friends
+ No wait for downloads
- Sometimes more expensive, depending on demand and collectibility
- Can be lost, stolen, damaged, etc.
- Can be lent to friends (this is also a minus for those who don't like lending their games)
- Disc swapping
 
I have over 120 physical PS3 games, and a handful of digital, it feels a bit strange considering the digital games part of my collection, yet at the same time, I have no desire to buy a physical copy of them even at a very low price.
 
Sadly, physical is slowly slipping into the clutches of digital itself, because most games have updates, DLC codes, paid DLC, etc. that require online anyway - this is at least one of the reasons games don't hold much value these days, because this makes them less collectible than for example, a Super NES game which is complete as is.

So after hearing about the 50% bump on trades at GS I quickly knocked out the rest of Second Son and traded it in for a whopping $43.20.  Used that to buy a $20 PSN card and the rest just about pays off my Destiny balance.

I was really happy with the gameplay (even though the AI is still as shitty as ever), but everything else was pretty meh. 

 
My son has a XB1 and I do also.  (otherwise he would constantly use mine AND I had lots of credit).  Anyway, this is a major issue with digital.  If he wants to play NBA 2k14 he either has to do the huge install on his XB1 also or play the game in with my system.  That's just stupid when the install is like 50GB.  

I know the above is a first world problem but it is a legitimate concern for homes with two systems.

On the MLB 14 note, I am a big believer getting what you agreed to.  So if you paid to have it available at 12:01 and it was not available at that time (or within a reasonable time period) you are due a refund.  Sony made the time a material part of the deal.  If they don't deliver, you don't pay.  

 
For my Vita is a mix of digital and carts.

If I were to have everything digital I would need at least a 64GB card just to have my current games and PS+ and anything new and prob at the end of the year it just might be too little memory.  If the memory cards were substantially cheaper I would def get everything digital, makes things more conformable and why I loved my PSP Go, but paying stupid memory prices for comfort is not a priority since carts are very small nowadays and the vita is a big size portable.  I do hope this next BF they bring the 16GB card for $10 and or the 32GB for $20 and so on or something like that.

I do purchase games with the trade-in/sell option in mind, but I never do it in a way to maximize my value by rushing through games. I just like the fact that a couple years from now, i'll probably still be able to get $10 or more for Infamous Second Son or some other games. I've already finished it and I know I can trade it for more than that now, but i'm not ready to since I might go back to it. Eventually, i'll get rid of it and $10 is better than nothing if I had purchased it digitally. Also, if a game goes free on PS Plus or dirt cheap on a digital sale, I can trade my physical copy then too. This doesn't even cover the additional benefit of being able to loan a game to a friend, etc.

Oh nice, I forgot that was going on. I'm gonna take Diablo over there this afternoon and grab a $20 PSN card and Red Faction Guerrilla with that $3 off coupon from Kongregate.

I got banned for downloading free games from other regions when that whole thing was going on last year. My retail games still all played on my banned Xbox but any digital games I had purchased but not downloaded to the console were long gone after the ban.

Oh yeah, the paid ones. They're still tied to my account, but my account can't access the internet. Therefore there's no way for me to access those games.

Did you read the GS TIV thread? There's a 10% bonus coupon in physical copies of GameInformer that stacks with the 50% bonus, so assuming you're PUR also, you could have gotten another $2.70 for SS. Check the thread for more details.

I already caved on MGS since I sold my physical copy for ~$25 online. If you want ToSC at the lowest possible price (I definitely do not see it being PS+ at any point in time) and don't mind digital, go for it. Otherwise, Best Buy has it for $19.99 ($15.99 GCU) if you'd prefer physical for $6+tax more.

It took me 40 minutes and 2 CSRs, but I was refunded no problem ... 7 days to process but I used vacation time based on the 12:01AM EST I was promised by Sony. If the game isn't available until 5PM ... that's the rest of my day off to download/install. No thanks ... just got back from Gamestop with physical ... digital still has lots of room for improvement (from both PSN and XBL). This is one area that Steam puts competition to shame in reliable preorders/preloads.

Same. I have my PS3 right next to my monitor so disc noises drive me nuts. Whenever a game goes on sale on PSN and I can sell a physical PS3 game for the same or close to the same amount, I trade in for digital. I also only have 1 Vita game on cart, which is P4G and I'll trade that in if there's ever a good sale there as well.

That being said, I like going digital with games I'm sure about keeping and just going retail with games that are possible flops, won't hold that appeal of going back and replaying it.

 
As an added bonus, if you purchase God of War Collection for PS Vita system via PlayStation Store, you’ll get the PS3 version for free via cross buy (and vice-versa).

Too bad I actually finished both of these already.

 
I thought I had gotten God of War Collection on PSN where they accidentally had it for free.  It does not appear that it is on my account though.  Oh well...

All this talk of God of War is making me jones for some hack and slash action.  I may just need to start my hard play through in Ascension and try for my 30th (6th for GoW) plat.   We will see though as I did not enjoy Ascension nearly as much as the first 5.  Still my favorite game franchise of all time.

If you're a Prime member and don't mind paying slightly more (though it might be less if you factor in shipping?), it's possible Amazon will match the $19.99 price. I know it isn't as good as using the GCU discount, but still.

I'm actually not a Prime member or GCU. Just added a $20 PSN card and grabbed it. I've been trying to keep my max price for purchases at $15, but I make an exception for these collections for some reason and grab them once they hit $20. I'm on a mission to buy the last of my must have games for PS3; this narrows the list down to 15.

Not to mention the t-shirt prominently features large NBA and Adidas logos. How benevolent of them. Let's all walk around in shirts produced in low wage countries so we can advertise how fair minded big companies are.

This is all about money. Now sponsors can fall over themselves to support the righteous NBA and everyone gets free publicity and click throughs. We'll pretend it's any different than what Donald Sterling would do any time a lawsuit popped up.

If I got the Sly Collection for Vita, it would seriously just be for trophy grinding, so I probably won't pick it up unless I can do so at a sub-$10 price.

It's disappointing that bringing this to PS systems (unspecified) is the highest stretch goal, but The Way looks like it could fill that Out of This World / Heart of Darkness / Flashback niche that's been relatively empty for awhile now.
