I played some yesterday. It's nice for what it is. Peaceful, relaxing, kinda cool. It's not much of a "game" though. I will probably get my $16 of entertainment value out of it just messing around, but the main reason I got it was that I had already preordered Headlander (which is a pretty cool game) and by getting this as well I can earn a 20% off coupon that will more than pay for Abzu by itself if used during a decent Flash Sale.

Only problem with that is if September's flash sale is crap because you have to use the code by Oct. 4th.

I have a little bit of time to decide on if I want to get Brut@l and Bound.

The Top Downloads for July is up now. PS4 was dominated by God of War III Remastered's sale price, 7 Days to Die, and The Last of Us Remastered's sale. LEGO games go on sale often, and LEGO Jurassic World will eventually get down to $5 - $10. For a fairly recent game like this, though, $20 is a good price. I doubt it will be cheaper anytime soon.

It's okay? I bought it on Steam because I actually really enjoyed B&C and that 'style' of game [frozen synapse, door kickers, etc]. But for some reason B&C: Deadline changed some stuff up and in doing so improved some things but took a step backwards in other ways. But it's still good... it's just against zombies and stuff and not criminals/terrorists/etc.

I actually don't remember why I stopped playing it... it wasn't because I hated it or anything, i think it was just because it was on PC and i tend to forget to play games on pc [prefer vita/ps4]. I'll buy it on sale since I'd prefer to get trophies anyway.

Of course there is. Whole thing has been a drama with Sony not sending out early codes, then sites going out and buying copies from stores breaking street dates, Twitch banning people streaming the game, Sony throwing fits and begrudgingly sending out review codes (likely so they could enforce their arbitrary embargo).

The studio and Sony's handling of No Man's Sky screams "this game sucks." Begging people not to play early, not getting any reviews out before release. If the game was good these things shouldn't be a problem as good reviews and positive word of mouth should be good for a game, not a negative. Add in the HUGE patch for day 1 and this game is certainly not looking good from the outside. I really hope I am wrong.

Why exactly is it a bad thing? If it makes the game better its bad because it's a patch and not on disc? That's just a silly way of thinking. If they delayed the game another month or more just to put the same patch on disc that would make it better?

Because with no reviews out and them continuing to beg people not to play what are all of these changes in response to? It says to me that the game was rushed and now they are trying to fix it, which may or may not work out.
I actually do think I will like this game, but it also seems like Sony knows that this is probably not the game people were hoping for and is about to get crushed under the weight of it's own hype.

It's almost certainly been planned this way for months and it's the way more and more big games are going, especially if they're missing deadlines. Games aren't complete on disc anymore. Sony just handled the whole thing really poorly once copies started getting out in to the wild. Should have gotten out in front of it when reddit started melting down.

Wasn't that one last gen copies? There were a few last gen games around that time that publishers hid by not sending out review copies.

They rushed that game out in four years? They've been working on the Day One update since the game went gold a month or so to add in things they couldn't get in the version that went gold along with making some tweaks and such that will improve some of the aspects they've seen the few players out there talking about. Hello Games plans to support this game for a while and getting started sooner with this update is the first step of their plans to improve and expand certain aspects of the game, which is how games work these days. 1.0 is just the start of a game's life, not the end.

The patch isn't really my concern. It is the patch plus lack of reviews plus begging people not to play plus the years long delay for this game plus the hype plus the fact that this is essentially an indie release that like 12 people worked on. These things added together don't give me confidence that people will be happy with this game when it releases on Tuesday.

Wasn't the game only delayed like once from it's initial release that was supposed to be in the spring?  Of course anyone that's bought in to the massive hype is going to disappointed, that much is a given.

In game development, game's have go gold date goals.  This one became super important after the delay and response so it goes gold then they work on the rest of the game.  I was always confused on why people hated on games getting day 1 patches, I was always thankful that we have systems where games can be patched and we don't get 2016 E.T.s or Superman 64s.  Also, screw reviews today and that whole "business", I didn't know people still put weight into those.
