I don't see how this would make business meetings better than a camera and big monitor. Sitting with avatars of family members versus basic video chat with skype or over FaceTime? Why would anyone do that? That seems like the most impractical way I could imagine to run a business meeting or spend time with family. You know what also works... watching the same movie on your own tv and talking to a family member at the same time (if that is your thing). We can already do pretty much all of that with monitors and stuff now. Why would I want to limit myself to a concert where I am in the 3000th seat in VR when I could just be up with the concert in full view? There are so many limits to the experience VR can offer. Sure it's going to be very cool to try this stuff out, but the practical real world applications in many cases pale to what we can already do now.

I think 20 years from now it'll still be tv's and living rooms that look pretty much the same kind of setup we have today.

Umm..... I think you're underestimating the future of the tech. First, remember, quality will get better and better. Headsets will get smaller over time -- from a visor, to eventually large googles, to eventually something more like glasses. It won't be any more impractical than carrying around a phone.

You could just as easily ask why people would want/use Facetime instead of just using the phone. I think you underestimate the level of immersion the tech can offer, and will eventually offer. Cameras and big monitors don't have immersion.

We aren't talking about 'what also works'. I mean, sure, you can just watch the movie by yourself and write your brother a letter about it, too. That's not the point. He'll smile at you, and you'll tell him why you don't think this tech is necessary, and he'll tell you to stfu and watch the damn movie.

You lack imagination. 3000th seat? There's no reason you can't be on the ing stage with your favorite band, live, using VR. We're talking about the future. We won't always need giant visors, just like we didn't always need tubes in our tvs.

If someone is only wearing glasses, it wouldn't be hard to replace the glasses 'in VR' with what they know the persons bridge/eyes look like. Since there are inherent benefits to eye tracking in VR [meaning, it'll be implemented eventually], they'll already know how the persons eyes look, so simulating/reproducing eye expression is also viable.

If you're in your underwear and haven't shaved in three days, just set it to show your customized avatar instead of you. You're now the Stay Puft Marshmallow man in your brother's vr world, but it still mimics your facial expressions, etc.

You're thinking about this imagining everyone wearing big clunky visors. That's not the future of VR. That's gen 1 tech. I'm talking gen 5 [or whatever] tech. The difference between those super big clunky loaf of bread sized portable phones in the 80's verses a nice sleek smart phone.

3d is the definition of gimmick. VR is a new medium. Very different.

As for flying cars, well, yeah, we're not there yet. But 5 years ago, who would have thought drone cars would be as advanced as they are in 2016? Technology can move quickly. There's already much talk of the benefits of drone truck convoys, drone delivery, and even drone-only highways. Things change, fast.

I really shouldn't be upset about it but it had the Persona 4 Golden Solid Gold extras like the body shield and screen protector. Oh well. I have a PSTV and I do plan on buying a Vita again. But just cause I'm sort of a collector I'm going to look on Ebay for the body shield again.

The games are safe though. They weren't in the Vita yay.

You can pretty much guarantee this will only be 30 FPS (or worse), and I wonder what other graphical features they sacrified to get this? IMHO they would be better off trading away native 4K (use 1440p upscaled or something) to get better lighting/FPS/draw distance, etc. But maybe I'll be proven wrong.

As a light gun and Resident Evil fan, I have to say that I hated Umbrella. And I heard that Darkside is worse. I thought it had some of the worse mechanics in a light gun shooter. I'd say to save your money and time. Story wise, they're are partial repeats of the main story.

Umbrella Chronicles is pretty much DOA. After reviews smashing it to pieces I don't even think you'd have much luck with getting enough people for a match to get going. Unless the sale price really suckered in enough people to buy it but they would ultimately stop playing after a few matches and realizing what a dud the game is.

I think you're confusing that with Umbrella Corps. Umbrella Chronicles is a light-gun game.

I had been thinking games were going to sort of diversify in three ways: regular PS4, PS4 Pro in 1080p or 720p, PS4 Pro with 4k HDR TV. Some games seem to be going that route, at least.

I understand that, but they are touting native 4K. I expected every PS4 Pro game with graphics of any substantial complexity (Skyrim certainly qualifies!) to be upscaled (from 1440p or otherwise), not native. I suspect native is going to introduce really poor compromises in other areas to even maintain a 30 FPS framerate, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's a matter of taste, but I'd much rather get a used PS3 Slim than a new Super Slim. IMHO, the Super Slim was a junky redesign.

I understand that, but they are touting native 4K. I expected every PS4 Pro game with graphics of any substantial complexity (Skyrim certainly qualifies!) to be upscaled (from 1440p or otherwise), not native. I suspect native is going to introduce really poor compromises in other areas to even maintain a 30 FPS framerate, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's purely academic to me since I have a PC I can use for Skyrim, but I'd hate to see other games going down a path of sacrificing important graphical features just so they can advertise "native 4K!" on a console that's not designed to do that.

That would be in line with game development in general, especially for Bethesda's games.

Perhaps as part of the installation procedure it has to connect to the servers to do something (like look for a cloud save or something), so with no servers it is not possible to complete the installation process. For instance, with the gamespy servers gone, Condemned 2 crashes the PS3 system if you attempt to quit the game while connected to the internet.

Hmmm. Very odd, I don't totally understand why. I played the game just fine w/o ever resorting to buying anything in game. It's not 'online' except for IAPs.

I suppose, as someone suggested, the code doesn't play well with servers down. And they likely decided that fixing that cost more than the game ever took in, or at least, would ever take in going forward. Or maybe they decided that since they're removing IAP, if they 'fix' it to work without IAP they might as well release it as a rebalanced paid version.

Still, yuck in general. At least all 3 games removed from our main libraries so far have rare and relatively acceptable reasons behind them* being removed [though this is the closest to 'foul', but at least it was F2P so even then, not that big of deal]. It's certainly not a problem, yet, and as long as they stick to this extremely rare [with supporting circumstances] cases I'm okay with it.
