I haven't played the newest one, but last gen's Tomb Raider reboot was clearly a bit rushed/unfinished. The most obvious indicator was the crafting / materials... early on this feels like it's going to be something ala Far Cry, but it never actually materializes in game. Definitely dropped due to lack of time. Just as problematic were the absolutely criminal lack of 'tombs', and the few that did exist were so simplistic as to be downright stupid. Simply compare them to the elaborate trap/puzzle tombs in TR Guardian of Light and it's night and day, and that wasn't even a mainline TR.

And of course, it felt like the TR reboot was chasing Uncharted and missed the boat in several other ways.

That said? I'm still excited to play the new one at some point.

Well, I mean, sure, it owed something to TR, but I'd say Uncharted owed much more to Indiana Jones. And TR owed something to Pitfall and Montezuma's Revenge, while we're at it. Almost all games owe great debts to previous games... but Uncharted really is a case where they advanced a genre leaps and bounds past previous incarnations, to the point that in a way it's hard to remember how fantastic Uncharted was because now so many games have copied their formula.

I mean, consider how impressive it was design wise to create a game that makes it feel like TR is copying it, rather than the franchise feeling like a TR clone. That took some serious innovation in both mechanics and story telling.

I hope the newest TR is good, because while I had fun with the original reboot in a general 'this is okay' way, it didn't feel like TR [lack of tombs] and felt more like a Uncharted ripoff that didn't understand what made Uncharted fun.

I felt like the Tomb Raider reboot and the newest Tomb Raider were actually an enhancement on what I've been looking for from the Uncharted series. I really like Uncharted, but the actual gameplay and gunplay (and certainly things like character progression) has always been lacking. Tomb Raider blends everything so well. The only thing that's missing is Nathan and Sully it might be the perfect game.

I don't know if I would say the TR reboots are necessarily better than the Uncharted games but they certainly are great games. Other than the first one's optional tombs lacking, I thought everything about it as an origin story was fantastic. Gritty, great set pieces and, yes, the combat is better than the Uncharted games. The tombs in Rise is the Tomb Raider definitely improved over the first one.

I don't get all the hate here. The reboots are well regarded in many circles and certainly hold a place among my favorite games.
 
Tomb Raider reboots are amazing.  I like where someone calle Uncharted 'Dude Raider', since it's a copy of Tomb Raider.  Both series are awesome, but I lean towards the new Lara games.

I honestly found Tomb Raider 2013 far, far superior to Uncharted at it's release. I felt it had tighter controls, and far, far better combat with less waves of attrition and bullet spongey enemies. I also felt it was more open for exploration than the Uncharted series.

I literally just played TR2013 again, and just played through Rise of the Tomb Raider last week.

I feel TR2013 is the superior game, it was so stream lined with the right amount of exploration and etc. RIse on the other hand adds two "Sand Box" areas to explore and gather items, and focuses way more on the survival aspect. giving you 6-8 different materials you have to constantly collect in various amounts to upgrade your inventory and weapons. When the plot and gameplay got going, it was amazing, but it felt like there was way, way to much faffing about.

I will admit, there are a few to many "Press forward not to die parts in Rise", some of which seem to be exact moments lifted from TR2013, such as walking through a death trap as a war takes place all around you.

The other problem is that both TR games are too serious, and in TR2013, Lara can come off as a bit whiny to people. Uncharted at least had humor to help add levity, and I appreciate Drake's sarcasm.

Actually. Dude Raider was Uncharted's original name.

However you're correct.

Uncharted took many ideas from Tomb Raider and refined and expanded them, then Tomb Raider took the ideas from Uncharted and further used and refined them for its series.

Competition is good!

Think that's probably reading too far in to it. This stuff's cyclical and we just had a month of pretty strong sales so we're going to have a couple weeks of shit sales during this dead period as we build up towards the late winter/early spring holiday sales and then it will go back to being shit for a bit and then sales again. I would expect they'll just use it to highlight the stuff they want to promote now.

See, the original Arcade version was NOT made by Technos (Creators of 1 and 2), merely funded/produced.. hence the problems.

The NES version, was made by the original creators and took inspiration from the arcade game, but further expanded upon and refined the features.

Then Acclaim, who released it in the US further altered the game by completely re-writing the plot, and upping the difficulty. (More enemies, less lives, health doesn't restore between scenes)

DD3 for the NES was bullshit

I was curious if they would do an Arcade port to the PS4 like they did 1 and 2.

Also, River City Tokyo Rumble has a Double Dragon Easter Egg in it. Pretty cool IMO.

Exactly. Uncharted 2 is in my top 5 of all time but the last two Tomb Raider games are superb. Uncharted only gets more praise because it's a PS exclusive and people think everything Naughty Dog touches turns to gold (mostly true but it still creates a bias). Uncharted 4 is excellent and once I finish it I'll probably put it right up there with 2.

Asdivine Hearts? Yeah, think it's usually $3.99 but goes on sale for $.99 fairly often.

It's actually a decent JRPG (as far as Kemco published games go). But plays just fine on mobile so no reason to spend the extra $10 or more.

Edit: looks like they're charging $7.99 for it on iOS now! I know I didn't pay much for it. Looks like it went up from $3.99 to $7.99 in July (probably the same time as the PC release). But has been on sale for $.99.
