Took a look at it. I like the form factor. I know it's mimicking Xbox but Xbox mimicked the general Dreamcast controller layout just adding another stick. So yeah it should be a better configuration for playing old Dreamcast games like Crazy Taxi.

The negatives though, no headphone port, rumble, or motion controls.. and it's a wired controller. So it's not a complete replacement for PS4 or PS3. And an overall step backwards being wired. For PS3 gaming, there are other options for the same layout in a wireless controller. I've seen em at walmart for pretty reasonable prices without any cut out features. For PS4 though, yeah this seems to be it for the moment. I just couldn't do without the headphone port, though I do love the old Dreamcast layout.
I never play multiplayer online because I'm just not into that so the headphone jack doesn't matter to me. But the Dual Shock orientation has just always felt unnatural to me. I've had Wolfenstein for PS4 for a few months sitting unwrapped while waiting for a good price on the Hori FPS Plus. I went through my backlog today and found Unreal Tournament IV, Killzone 3 and Resistance 1-3 that I'm excited to play with it. I also assume that Valkryia Chronicles, the Yakuza series, Deus Ex and Infamous might be easier to play with that controller too. And don't get me started on The Last of Us. I gave that game about 3 minutes before my thumbs began to hate the controls. It's like I have two brand new game systems now!

Thanks for posting. A little too plain for my taste or i would've got it. Good PS4 themes seem few and far between.
The music taking so long to be heard is a real letdown. I was also expecting the theme from the game's opening credits (unless that is what is playing and it takes longer than a minute to pick up).

Makes me regret skipping out on the Transistor theme when it was a $1. Seems to be the better of the two. I'll stick to one of the free themes for now.

Transistor theme also looked too plain from the YouTube video I saw. I have two god of war themes I rocked for awhile that were really cool (one was on sale for a buck once the other was for preordering GOW3 remaster), but they both played the theme music pretty loudly and it got old.

Gamestop service is so damn slow, RIDICULOUSLY slow, and so many games I don't need 7 days to decide on keeping vs returning that it's almost a better buy just to pay $2 at Redbox for one day.

Is that pirate assassin's creed game that isn't black flag any good? I'v been looking for black flag since I want to play as pirates but haven't wanted to spend more than $10. Is this standalone thing solid well built/worth $7?
AC Rogue is what I thought you were talking about at first until I saw the $7 price. Rogue is really good and I enjoyed it a lot and really recommend it. Freedom Cry I never personally played since 99% of the time I do not buy DLC, but I hear it is good. HLTB listed it as 4.5 hours long.

what the heck.. is The Last of Us showing up as PS+ FREE! for anyone else? It shows that on the game in the menu, but when i add it to the cart its $10. Weird

Not sure where you are seeing this. Is this on the webstore or the PSN Store on the PS3? I don't see it for free anywhere on the webstore.

Yikes. I was considering TLOU for $10 to put on my share account with a close friend, but it's 27GB. Even Left Behind is huge (for what it is) at 10GB.

Yeah, I've been seeing that too. I'm tempted to buy it for $10, but if there's a chance it will be free really soon, I don't want to pull the trigger too soon.

The Addon version of Left Behind is under 5gb listed. I'm just guessing here but maybe the reason the standalone version says it needs 10gb to install is that it needs maybe 5.2 for the installation and 4.8 for the download. I wonder if maybe it frees the download space once all is said and done. Same for the 27gb of the main game... it says it needs that to get it installed but once installed I wonder if it frees up almost half of that back.

Maybe someone will chime in about the actual final storage required.

Ultimately this isn't a problem for me as I upgraded to a 1TB HD in my PS3... and ended up starting fresh so I have easily over 900gb free. But I can see how someone on limited space would have to pick and choose what is worth eating that much space up.

I Googled it, it's just shy of 27GB. The file you download is only ~230MB, which initiates a download to install it. This probably because typically when you DL a came from PSN you need a preliminary double amount of HDD space. The install file for games downloads, installs the game, then gets deleted (so a 6GB game would need 12GB of space available). Having 54GB free to install TLOU would be a hefty order for many people.

Super Meat boy seems to be a lock for ps+ in a few weeks. While not a lock, Black Flag might end up being our 2nd AAA Title. Hopefully it does end up being the case. Will give me something to play while I wait for November. Wait a minute. I'm a CAG , I'll just download it and throw in my digital backlog.

I don't like getting the same game free on both services that offer free games. Since Black Flag was already free on Xbox One, I hope you're wrong.

Of course, I already bought it on PS4 a long time ago, so that's another reason I hope you're wrong.

Sony's going all out on the marketing of Call of Duty: Black Ops III with a special 1TB PS4 bundle for $450 that has a special look for the PS4 and DS4, which I like the look of the DS4 at least. I'm surprised they don't include the SE version of the game with these sorts of bundles.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/09/24/star-wars-battlefront-beta-begins-october-8th-on-ps4/

Star Wars: Battlefront has a beta that will go live from 10/8 to 10/12 with three modes available on three maps. The FAQ says it's open to all PS4 owners. There's a weird browser companion game that's available during the beta that ties into Battlefront:

"In addition to the Star Wars Battlefront Beta on PS4, you’ll also get a chance to try out the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience. Available during the Beta only at www.StarWarsBattlefront.com, the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience features the strategic card game Base Command, and lets you earn in-game Credits that unlock Star Cards, weapons, and more in Star Wars Battlefront. In addition to Base Command, the Companion also lets players check out game stats and progression, customize load-outs and appearance, connect with friends, and more."

No doubt. Makes me feel bad for those with 60gb systems.

Some feedback on Heroes of Loot is below. This is from the iOS version which I played again to decide if the vita version was worth my cash. It's a big block of text so I'm spoiler'blocking it since everyone might not be interested in this game while it's on sale.

I re-downloaded Heroes of Loot to my iphone yesterday to refresh my memory of what I liked and didn't like about the game. For those not in the know, this is another game by the same guy that made Gunslugs and a slew of other ios/android/steam games. The game is a rogue-like random dungeon crawler with hints of classic Gauntlet thrown in and some very minor rpg elements. The original feature of the game is as you play it, additional difficulties unlock (more deadly enemies) making the levels have tougher enemies but after you die you are pretty much stuck on the last difficulty you unlocked. So the first game takes a while if you are a decent gamer since it's all easy and stuff, but every game after that is much quicker due to starting at a higher difficulty. This becomes an issue if you don't reach level required (20, I think) to unlock the extra character type on that first play through since every following play through will be much tougher since you start back at level one but the difficulty will probably already be turned up to 4. There are some permanent unlocks you can buy from the random shops that pop up but most everything resets when you die. There are also some super generic freemium style missions (you know the kind, kill 10 of these... collect 12 of those) with mostly throwaway rewards (temporary powerups seem most common). Going far in the game often requires random luck of having enough money to buy certain items that show up during the random stores. And it's all forward moving only, there's no way to backtrack once you enter the door to the next leve. In many cases due to luck alone you may not make it very far as certain gear becomes required at the higher difficulties. Also the silly side missions are completely dependent upon luck as you may not encounter the number of items/enemies/whatever needed to complete them in the limited time provided. Controls on iOS are a single stick for movement and a button to shoot. Aiming is autotargetting the nearest enemy. I'm not sure if the vita version with the second stick control option actually gives control over the aiming thus making this a true duel stick game, but I don't think it ultimately matters.

All in all it's a highscore chaser and due largely to the randomly generated levels the game really starts to drag into the mega generic territory pretty quickly. It has some definite charm in the characters and the few little conversation moments, but it falls flat in the gameplay department.

Still, I know people love their rogue-like dungeon crawling games and if you are cool with what I've described then this is definitely your game. For me however, I bought the iOS version back in the day and while I like the dev (he seems like a nice dude the times I've posted with him on another site) and it was worth supporting him as other games he made were great... I can't honestly recommend this game to anyone but the diehard roguelike and highscore chase fans. But even those folks may just find this is too vanilla for their tastes. For iOS gamers, I'd more highly recommend Cavern. It is real time movement when not in battles but goes turn based one enemies get into view. The dungeon in that game is random as well but it's more of a random world rather than just finishing a level and never looking back or having nowhere to go but deeper. The dungeon in Cavern is really well made and doesn't feel random since you can go up and down floors and retrace your way out when you don't have a town warp item available.

I'll pry myself away from Phantom Pain to try out the Star Wars: Battlefront beta on 10/8. I'm curious to see how it plays. Seems like everyone was excited for this game initially, when the trailer for it premiered, but now people seem mighty iffy about it.

The frontier rifle and crossbow are fun, but they don't outclass than the stock guns. I use them just to mix things up.

I think the tactical shotgun and bomb expert are the two major dlc add-ons. The shotgun can down a person in two shots, and it has pretty good range for a shotgun. It's actually kind of similar to the frontier rifle. They both down a full health person in two shots. The differences are the shotgun loses strength at a great distance, but it has a better fire rate and you don't have to be as precise with your shot.

The frontier rifle, tactical shotgun, and crossbow are all in the same bundle that is on sale for $1.50. I'd suggest getting that Tactical Weapons bundle. It also includes the burst pistol.

If you use five loadout points on bomb expert your bombs will have a short fuse, and you are immune to your own smoke bombs. Smoke bombing and shiving with this perk is a popular tactic. Buying the perk by itself is $2.00. The bundle it's in with three other perks is on sale for $2.00. Bomb expert is the only a la carte perk that is priced higher than $1.00, so I think even Naughy Dog knows it's powerful.
Thanks, going to grab those two packs.

I'd assume it ends on Tuesday and be pleasantly surprised if it goes longer, so make your decision accordingly.
i ask because i don't see an end date to the price listed on the playstation website

on the pages for other games on sale this week, it says something like "this price is only available for one week"

Someone posted the BO3 PS4 earlier today on neogaf which is when I looked at it. The DS4 orange thumbsticks look really nice.

Free SW BF beta is nice. I will try it out even though I refuse to buy it. No space battles is the biggest slap in the face ever.

I think the 10 GB upgrade to PS+ Cloud Storage for saves is already live for everyone, as my recent notifications for save uploads feature no failed uploads because there's no room. Looking at what's listed as being in the cloud now, I have these large games:

Minecraft - 255.9 MB

Driveclub - 325.1 MB

LittleBigPlanet 3 - 568.4 MB

Rocket Leauge - 104.9 MB

Nom Nom Galaxy - 125.9 MB

That's nearly 1.4 GB alone and doesn't include the rest of the games I have in there. I'm not in the FW 3.00 beta, so this isn't tied to that.

It makes sense that the standalone version of Left Behind is twice the size of the DLC version. I mean, the DLC version can use the files/assets of the original game, while the standalone version has to include everything from the original game that it needs.

It's completely understandable given the nature of some of those games but it still blows my mind to see save files that big.
Rocket League and Driveclub let you save replays, so it can get huge if you're one to do that often. Nom Nom Galaxy keeps a savestate of every level you play, so you can go back and continue playing even after beating the level. Minecraft's size is up to how much of the world you explore, as it increases based on how many maps' worth of the world you explore. LBP3 has a mysterious "User Profile" that is the vast majority of that size, which I'm not sure what that has to make it so big.

Whats the point of cloud storage? I tried to actually use it to move a save from one ps3 to the other when i was playing a game and was going to use it for cross save when i was playing Rogue leacy... but when i went to get it i noticed it says it takes 24 hours to be able to access your saves. Kinda makes it pointless unless your just using it for backup

Cross Save games handle it in-game, not from the main menu. That limit is only for locked saves.

I personally use it for backup. I think the 24 hour thing is because if you don't specifically force the cloud sync within a game then it only uploads saves in the the middle of the night (or whenever the synchronization happens each day). I personally think it's a fantastic feature. For moving saves immediately between systems, jumpdrives work for a lot of games. Sure not everything, but in my experience more often than not they work for those quick situations. Still, cloud backup of saves is a great feature. Just be sure to push those saves out if you are doing cross save gameplay the same day.

Nice, need to check my inbox on :ps4: The theme sucks though but at least they're giving something away.
I forgot that the CE guide came with a code for a dynamic theme, so I'll probably install that one tonight instead. It'd be nice if this reward-for-platting continued for other games.

Sorry, I don't have a PS4 but what's the average save file size? On PS3, it's like 500kb. I just upgraded to FiOS this week and thought I was ready for next gen, but apparently not.

10 MB was the minimum for PS4 saves until last year, so most are at that size. That meant the original 1 GB limited you to less than 100 game saves at most if none were above the minimum size.

Anyone know if that gold PS4 promo with taco bell is for any of the big box meals or just the queserito thing? Havent had taco bell in years. Maybe i'll grab some for lunch today

Cross Save games handle it in-game, not from the main menu. That limit is only for locked saves.
Oh, i didn't even try it in game after i noticed the 24 hour thing when moving a regular game save. Still.. annoying you have to wait. Good to know i can do cross save games in game though.

Is there a way to force a sync without wiaiting 24 hours or is that lmit always in effect?

Most games don't make you wait 24 hours. Not really sure why some have that.

I'm pretty sure this is to keep people from screwing themselves over and messing up their saves by transferring stuff around too much. Both for file corruption and for losing track of what save you want and overwriting a newer one with an old one. I'm sure there's also some exploiting you can do with save files by transferring to other players (I recall something related to Borderlands 2 with this).

I really wish Sony would copy Microsoft's cloud saves. I often buy games on Xbox mainly because it's so much easier to move saves between systems.

Any big box deal. The big promo poster says when you order the Big Quesarito Box but the official rules state any big box. I ordered the one with the Nacho Cheese Gordita and got the a code with the box. I was going to eat there every day but I'm going to avoid TB after yesterday.

Bomb expert is the only a la carte perk that is priced higher than $1.00, so I think even Naughy Dog knows it's powerful.
thanks for the writeup. sounds like tactical + bomb...

are there any assault type weapons worth picking up in addition to the shotty? i didn't realize how expensive all this was even with the sale, so buying everything is off the table.

Yeah, I've been seeing that too. I'm tempted to buy it for $10, but if there's a chance it will be free really soon, I don't want to pull the trigger too soon.
I would not view a temporary mistake in a banner as any sort of evidence it'll go on ps+ soon. TLOU continues to sell, it's a huge property... while obviously anything could go on ps+ at some point i sure as hell wouldn't hold my breath for tlou.
