...Nothing is for everyone, of course, but just because it's not for you don't assume it's not a great package for many others.
Yeah, that's fine.. but I didn't assume anything. I just said I didn't care for it.

It is definitely worth it just based on how much you save on sales, if you buy a lot of PSN games.

Wow.. this weeks PSN deals.. are um.. yea, Not even worth looking at? Barely anything there or did I miss something?
One of the worst I've seen. Grim Fandango is a (Double) fine game if you're into puzzle games, but other than that, total garbage sale and PS+ free games. Hardware Rivals looks worse than Timesplitters 2 did on PS2 and handles like a crippled version of the original Twisted Metal on PS1.

Eh, I don't quite get all the hate for Hardware  Rivals.   I've only played 2 rounds, but I didn't really have any issue with the handling/etc.   I don't love the game or anything but... it doesn't seem like 'garbage' either.

So, I saw earlier with the new years picture that the Idea Factory games were supposed to be on sale. Is that not happening? Or is it possible PSN can't handle midweek sale updates?

I have money ready as soon as they're available.

The latest from Idea Factory: https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/348804-psn-weekly-deals-15-six-new-ps-games-750-abyss-odyssey-and-3-rock-of-ages-thats-it/page-58#entry13140966

There have been plenty of post-Tuesday sales, so I doubt it's a problem on that end. I'd bet it's a paperwork issue or something like that since Volume also got delayed a day due to holidays messing with the planned release.

Yea I started Hardware Rivals last night. I was playing in the rookie mode with levels 1-5 and was still getting my ass handed to me online. The game is pretty fun but the controls are kind of brutal. I'm used to R2 for the gas which is fine, but then having to try and hold R1 also to shoot and aim with the right analog stick is pretty annoying.

If anyone is looking for a PS4 2TB upgrade drive, this external USB drive is on sale for $70. You do have to pop open the case to remove the drive, which will void the warranty on the drive. It contains this internal drive which costs about $30 more if purchased as an internal. So you can decide whether the warranty is worth the $30 or not.
If I have yet to even turn on my PS4, can I swap the HD before first boot or what would I have to do to make it work?

I played quite a bit of Rebel Galaxy while sick at home yesterday. Reminds me of Freelancer more than anything, really.

The music gets really repetitive, really fast. I had to turn it off and listen to something else.

I'm not using my broadside weapons much, cause they don't seem to do very much damage compared to turrets. I can one-shot small ships and take out larger ships in 3-4 barrages of my turrets, which would take maybe 50 broadside shots to do. So I just rely on my 4x Mk1 mining turrets and upgraded boost to wage guerrilla warfare.

Story is extremely generic so far. Mix between Freelancer/Galaxy Quest.

Pace is slow, and the side missions are very repetitive. You pretty much pick up the same 4 missions over and over.

If you want to trophy hunt... I think it took me 5+ hours to get the first one.

Hint:

Doesn't matter if you pick deflector or tractor beam as your free gift, since they cost the same. Deflector does help you survive, but you will need the tractor beam to advance the campaign pretty early on.

I'd recommend getting the deflector, and buying the tractor beam ASAP. After that, buy good turrets, then upgrade your survivability.

Can wait to get the ship with 7 turret slots.

I still have my eye on this. Sounds like you wouldn't recommend it at full price? Story and repetitive objectives doesn't matter to me much as long as combat and exploring the map is consistently fun. But you make it sound like that gets old before long.

I'm maybe a dozen hours in, but I'm getting money from fights instead of commodities (like I do in most games), so I'm probably slower than most. But it didn't really get repetitive til 10+ hours.

If a low budget Freelancer with slower ships appeal to you, get it. Otherwise, I'd wait for 50% off sale. I did use a 20% coupon on it (and Nuclear Throne).

Ship customization isn't very deep, which was my main disappointment. You pick loadouts in the most basic manner, and is nowhere near as deep as most 4X space game customization I've played. I still yearn for Ascendancy customization, where you can customize them to fast gunships, colonization ships, exploration ships, etc.

I don't feel cheated paying what I did, and intend to play more this weekend, but it is (like most people say) fairly niche.

Edit: Ascendancy (a 20 year old game!) customization:

I'm guessing Destiny's user base has dropped way down. Anecdotally, I don't see nearly as many people playing it on my friends list and I know I've really burnt out (although I could still enjoy it if I tried). I'm wondering if there's just going to be a bunch of these desperate grasps at attention until Destiny 2 comes out this fall.

If they really think 15 motes and 15 strange coins is going to entice any vets to come back, they are more delusional than I give them credit for.

Had a lot of fun with Destiny but only new strikes or raids would get me back at this point

I stopped playing Destiny when I hit level 23 and could just never find enough light or whatever to up my level.

I never got to the really exotic weapons because I was sick of people just standing there in the raids while I did all the work taking down the boss solo.  (Honestly, I suck at the game, these people were standing around forever just waiting for me to shoot, die, respawn).

Someone remind me what 15 Motes of Light and 15 Strange Coins will do for me so I know whether it's worth re-installing the game.

Maybe I can get an exciting weapon or something, play a few times and then give up again until the next giveaway?

Why is this game getting so much acclaim? It's no better or worse than any of Telltale's games. I bought the first episode and liked it well enough and I'm considering buying the rest of the episides since it's on sale on XBL but I haven't even started Game of Thrones or Borderlands and still have to finish Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead S2. Those were all $5 to boot, so I think I might have just convinced myself to pass.
The people who made "Remember Me" made this. Please apologize.

If you stopped at 23 before a lot of the changes and have some interest in trying it again, they've made a lot of improvements that make leveling up easier and possibly more interesting. Overall, the game has come a long way from where it was and is a pretty nice package and good value. I'm only done with it because I put plenty of time in and just want to see other games rather than be married to that game. The 15 motes and coins is not a whole lot for anyone who plays much. You can probably earn that over the course of playing a few hours. 15 coins might get you a decent piece of gear or a weapon, but if you're only installing it to grab that, don't bother since you can earn and level weapons now fairly easily and you might not even be able to use a weapon you can buy with coins until you're a higher level.

I don't think it's a promotion for lapsed players, but a reward for those that are currently playing it.

Strange Coins are spent on Exotic items from Xur on the Tower during every weekend. He has some cool weapons/gear and 15 coins is usually enough to get something from him, though you can easily finish quests and take stuff to the Cryptarch to randomly get strange coins for potentially better or more items from Xur.

Motes are just a currency for certain items on the Tower.

Anyone else play volume on vita? Haven't played on ps4 yet but plays like a simpler, stealthier frozen synapse.

Thanks to everyone for the Destiny info.  I just now realized that my Destiny save never uploaded to the PS+ cloud.  So if I restart playing, I guess I'll really be restarting playing.  Oh well, at least this time it will be with Nolan North.

Oh! Destiny knows what level I am? It's on the Destiny servers.  Cool.

Yeah, there's no local save. It's all on Bungie's servers.

"I don't know one way or the other, but the fact is that The Deadly Tower of Monsters will get a special 2-week price discount when it launches! When the game launches in the Americas and Europe on Jan. 19, it will be discounted ~33% until Feb. 2 for PS Plus subscribers and Steam users. Plus, the Steam version of the game will also include a bonus "Scarlet Nova" digital calendar! While the price will revert back to normal after the promotional period, the calendar will be a permanent bonus for Steam purchases!"

The MSRP for it is $14.99, so that's a $9.99 sale price for the launch. This is the newest game from Team ACE (Zeno Clash, Abyss Odyssey, Rock of Ages), so here's the announcement trailer if you haven't seen it in action yet:

So I haven't used my PS3 in forever and my controller won't connect to the system. Is GS the best place to buy one of those cords and what are they called again? If anyone has a link to a cheap controller cord id appreciate it.

A PS3 controller cord is just a USB to... mini or micro USB. It's a standard cable. Amazon has them for cheap and I'd bet dollars to donuts one of your USB drives in the area uses the same cable. Or a non Apple phone.

How do you not have a mini USB cable?  About half the portable electronics in the world still use them.  Sure micro has been supplanting it for the last few years but I still have more mini cables than micro laying around.
