Its a shame 3d didn't catch on in a bigger way. Although the 3d glasses(ps 3d monitor) I have just kill my head they are too tight. I am going to try a heat gun to bend the arma out. I've tried hot water and they just don't seem to bend.
I think if set makers used passive 3D technology from the start, instead of using active 3D with monstrously expensive and uncomfortable glasses, the whole 3D thing probably would have had better traction.

I prefer a publisher trying to monetize fluff over inflating the MSRP of games. Trying to make a couple bucks off extra colors, lobby avatars and whatever system voices is supposed to be, seems to be a nice compromise over just getting hit with an extra $10 charge at release to keep up with inflation.

This nickel and diming seems to mostly annoy people that have this obsessive nature with completeness, to the point where they have to own it if it exists out in the wild regardless of its function to the actual product.
For me I feel like if the contents are on the disc that I paid for then I should not have to pay to unlock it because I should already have access to it. But I understand your perspective because you're prioritizing color as something not very important to you, and it's OK to monetize that.

My question then... Say with no change in MSRP and rising costs because inflation... You will accept a single player game that lasts 5 hours, and then on release day they have $15 DLC for "additional adventure missions" that are actually integral to the story?

In this particular example I'm not saying that a higher MSRP equates to more gameplay, but no increase in MSRP may lead to gimped campaigns... Or even worse--less content at current MSRP.

Just some food for thought. I'm not trying to piss people off, but just thinking aloud about industry trends and what the community thinks here. I find the community here is excellent for the industry because we're all CAGs here and have varying interpretations of value. It would be awesome if devs paid attention to our discussions here. Although we might be labeled cheap, there is no denying that we are all looking for value. We spend money on quality as well.

I did not notice the additional char/chars were free this time.
With Xrd Sign, they were around $8 each

It still seems/feels more like an update than a sequel/new game... though it seems slightly more extensive than I originally thought.
They did the same thing regularly with the BlazBlue series, keeping the character assets and backgrounds virtually identical between releases.
Think of the Aksys fighters as in generation sequels to each other. They reuse the assets no different than a thousand other games do, but the story progresses from the previous game and new characters, modes and gameplay aspects get added in. The big difference is the continuation of the story, which matters more to fans of anime fighters. Yes, the game may be slightly stretching it at $60, but isn't that basically true for almost all of these niche Japanese publishers? They reuse every asset and make five RPG sequels. With the small numbers each game does, the investment probably isn't even recouped until game 2. I'm not saying it's perfect, but in the land of season passes to make games complete, I'm more than comfortable with a publisher trying to monetize with mainly inconsequential optional purchases that only the few feel they actually need. At least I don't feel I have to wait a year or two to feel I've experienced the entire game like I do with something like Fallout 4.

I'd suggest holding off to see if the bugs from the PS3 version are gone.
Honestly thats whats keeping me from getting it as soon. Those bugs were present in the PS2 version, it was a pretty bad port. It certainly ran better on PS3 though, hoping they cleaned up this PS4 version

I miss the idea of buying a complete game, especially when it comes to fighting games. I understand wanting a few DLC chars but.. include some sort of "Complete Package" I want to be able to have the whole game and not spend an arm and a leg on it..... and more than likely they'll repeat this again next year, or the year after..... a 3rd game with all the previous content + new content DLC.
I like the idea of just buying a complete game and no dlc of any kind being released. Especially a fighting game where there are DLC characters.

They already marked the MSRP up. They already cut content out of big games to push multiplayer, sell dlc levels & characters, and reduce the single player story. They already do so many other things to cut corners and charge as much as possible. It just sucks to me to buy a game and then find out later that they released something and if I want the complete experience I gotta pay more. Especially when you buy near launch and then they release another version later with the "extra" content that they couldn't have just put in at launch. So you either gotta wait for that more complete version to drop in price, take the hit on DLC, or just give them a middle finger and wait for the complete version. That's what I did with the Batman series. Just forget about the games as they release and wait the extra time for the complete GOTY edition. I don't mind waiting for games though. There aren't a lot I need at launch and I've caught on to a lot of the shenanigans that the industry uses to milk the market. As for nickle and diming for colors and outfits, I think all of that should be stuff we unlock in the game by actually playing it. They took a lot of the incentive to get good at games and monitized it... which to me ruines my motivation to even play some games.

But, what can we do other than vote with our wallets... and even then, usually all that does is forces them to go even crazier with the monitization of the next game.

...

Anyway... this weeks sales... I'm digging them. Can't wait to get some psn credit on my account and lock in some licenses. This is the best week for me in quite a long time.

I would have a different opinion if day one DLC consisted of story driven missions integral to the story of a game. That's not apples to apples with optional colors in a fighting game. I'm ok with this because it's colors. If it were optional colors for purchase in the same hypothetical action game with the $15 DLC story missions, I would still be ok with the colors but not the missions. It's not like you don't have color options in Guilty Gear. You get some in game, and if you want more for the few characters that you gravitate towards, you can think about whether to throw a buck or two their way. Whether they place that on the disc or not is irrelevant. If they decided to make you download the file instead with day one DLC is that really any different than making you unlock it day one from the disc? Obviously it was planned in advance to be monetized anyways, so what's the difference?

Totally. My bad. I wasn't trying to say buying colors was the same as cut content.

But you kind of hit the nail on the head with the last sentence. "Planned in advance to be monetized" is the sad reality... But if MSRP went up, then I believe we might not be having these conversations regarding getting a "complete" game or not. That is the difference I'm trying to get across. If MSRP had gone up, perhaps the industry wouldn't be nearly as focused on micro transactions and DLC. Instead of DLC, maybe we get full fledged sequels in timely fashion?

I guess I'm also in for Strider with the recent responses. I've been looking into it. Haven't played it since the Genesis days.

Yea, I bought -Sign- what it was like $12 around X-mas and not a single piece of DLC (beyond the free)

Well the trend is that development costs are shooting sky high, publishers are closing down, the intermediate sized game is drying out, and clearly there needs to be more money pumped into the industry. An MSRP jump would have helped rectify things, but we're mid generation so that can't happen anymore. Games have to be developed with a DLC monetization plan in mind, right from the start.

In Guilty Gear's case, the ability to use the same engine in two sequels is probably already built into the original strategy of getting the game off the ground. We're not talking about EA here trying to split Battlefront content down the middle and double charging everybody. This is a small publisher trying to monetize colors, lobby avatars, some voice options, and maybe a DLC character or two off in the future.

In the grand scheme of business practices, I guess I was a little taken aback, that someone would focus on little old Aksys games trying to keep beloved niche fighters on the table that are already jam packed with content to begin with. If you want to see the depraved actions of a misguided published in action, sit down with your popcorn and watch the monthly crapfest that is Capcom and how they're handling Street Fighter V.

Also Strider is awesome. Definitely get that.

Back to the PS+ freebies, that glitch that showed a $120+ charge and an equal discount for a total of $0 didn't actually do anything unusual to my purchase history.  The expriation dates are still set like normal for my ps+ renewal date.  Still, it was odd to see more than a $0 price in the purchase cost.  It reminded me just how much we get each month in terms of MSRP.  Not that I've ever been on the fense about PS+ value since I picked up my families PS3's a few years ago.

Ive definitely seen this happen before in the past with PS plus game. Dont think its anything new, or anything to worry about.

Great game. I still own Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins on UMD along with the Japanese version with the remixed game on UMD.
The remixed Japanese game is actually the only UMD I still own. I sold my rather HUGE collection years ago, but I had to keep one game to use from time to time to make sure my drive still works, and this won top honors.

My PSP collection is sitting in a huge Rubbermaid tub that I rarely open, but I still consider the system in my top 5 of all time. There are some really amazing games on PSP, and the Capcom titles on this sale are all great purchases if anybody owns a PSTV or a Vita. For instance, if I was only allowed to play one game for the rest of my life, I wouldn't mind if Power Stone Collection was that one game. I've lost numerous lunch hours unlocking new items on Power Stone 2.

I think it was more that they were vocal about it being only on PC at launch because the team wasn't big enough to get it out on all three at launch.

I've heard great things about it, though it's supposed to be a harder game.
XCOM2 is definitely harder than the first game. I finished the first game on Normal Ironman yet could not beat the first real mission in XCOM2 on Normal. They throw powerful enemies and a fairly strict time limit at you right out of the gate when all you have is a bunch of rookies. Many of the subsequent missions are timed as well from what I've read which did not sit well with a lot of the fanbase.

Also, anyone play Steamworld Heist? Looks pretty interesting from the trailer.

Bought psychonauts what bugs were there in ps2/3 ports?
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/04/01/psychonauts-review-playstation-classics-corner/

Unfortunately, all these wonderful strengths are weighed down by one terrible flaw: Psychonauts is a poor PS2 port (that has then been ported to PS3). Psychonauts was originally going to be published by Microsoft for their Xbox platform, but that deal was dropped and Double Fine gave the porting duties to Budcat Creations, who did a pretty poor job. Players can get stuck in the more complex pieces of environmental geometry occasionally, the framerate drops in the more active areas, there are a few visual glitches and some glitches that might prevent players from continuing (please alternate between two save files, like I did), and, worst of all, video compression is terrible. The audio seems off-track/delayed in most video sequences and the video itself seems a little choppy, decreasing the quality of these otherwise well-animated and well-directed cutscenes.

it seems like some of the games i got for free from playstation plus don't show up as "purchased" in the playstation store

i still have my PS Plus subscription, anybody else have this problem?

Sweet!  Legends 2 dropped to $2.50.  And I didn't know that Buster Bros is in Puzzle World.  Gotta wait for some Amazon stuff to ship so I can get PSN $10 for almost free. =D

I'm curious as well. Never played them on Vita or PSP but Powerstone on Dreamcast was a hell of a lot of fun. Powerstone 2 wasn't bad either.
Powerstone was some of the most fun I've ever had with a multiplayer game. The PSP games are good versions, but unless you have others to play with, single player probably isn't going to be to fun for long.

Just bought:

Mega Man Legends 2
Capcom Arcade Cabinet
Capcom Classics Collection Remixed
Power Stone Collection

It's all from Amazon No-Rush credit. I might as well enjoy it. I enjoyed Power Stone on the Dreamcast back in the day. The rest are blind buys. I don't think I've played any of those older games. I need to visit this thread more often.

i noticed ducktales remastered because it's on sale this week, also dead space 3 and a few others

i look at my purchase history and they are there, why are they not showing up as "purchased" in the store?
Sounds like a weird display bug on the store. As long as they're on the download list, it'll be fine.

Can someone please explain how you buy PSN games with amazon no rush credit? Thanks
