I bought Shutshimi and Tina's Toy Factory of all things. Less than $5 for both. I'm on an indie game kick and both reviewed well, so I said what the hell. I only have $5 left on my account so I might pick up something else if I can get a $10 card before the weekend is over.

One little thing that bugs me about the Vita (or Sony systems in general) as opposed to the 3DS, is that so many of the digital-only games on Sony systems are just PC ports. On 3DS the majority of content is original, even if a lot of it is shovelware or meant for kids.

It kind of takes the fun out of discovering a brand new game; one look at a review or a Let's Play and you already know everything important about it, before it even releases.

I probably shouldn't take the bait, but 3DS and Wii U also get tons of console, PC, and mobile ports. Kerbal Space Program is also releasing on Wii U in the near future.

Plus, there's no shame in developers wanting to release their games on more platforms and those platforms being receptive to those wishes, especially if there's an audience that wants them.

I think the problem is specifically the vita here. Or more or less the vitas memory. No reason to buy digital only on vita let alone over pay if its available on any other system.

Well that's a problem that you only really have until you get a memory card. I bought mine in a bundle with an 8gb card and have had no issues keeping at least one major game installed and a bunch of smaller indie games and classic PS1/PSP games. It's all about memory management which the 3DS certainly has less of an issue with once you buy a decent memory card (which of course isn't that big an issue due to cost). But still, I don't buy much of anything digital on PSN unless it's on sale. And even then, the prices on PSN for Vita games end up typically a LOT less expensive than the rare sale on the 3DS versions. Of course PC versions go cheaper but then that doesn't help anyone that just want's to play the games on a nice handheld system.

Still once you have a decent card, it's not really an issue anymore.

No one is forcing you to go look up feedback on a game. I mean, I'm grateful for a lot of the ports but I wouldn't sit down and watch a Let's Play of something I planned to buy. I might catch a review to see if it fits in with what I enjoy but only gathering enough info to make a purchasing decision. It doesn't matter if it's a new release for the vita or an old game that's been out a while. Watching a Let's Play is defeating the point of gaming to me.

As for the 3DS originals... there are some good ones on there that are digital only... but the library for digital only originals is pathetically small for anything of any real quality. So it's kind of a moot point that they are more original.

If you want to be on the cutting edge of new released games, the best time I had was on iOS. New games every single week and most are so cheap it makes it not such a huge deal to take a gamble on something that looks interesting. But that was a few years ago and the new releases today aren't as compelling because so much of the wild west that iOS was has gone to the casino freemium garbage that is now plaguing the 3DS.

I know the Wii U gets a decent amount of PC ports, being more powerful than the 3DS. I also have never watched a Let's Play; I was just making a point. It's not as fun looking forward to weekly releases if you know most of the titles already.

You haven't really made a coherent point yet. Ports are bad on PlayStation consoles, but not on Nintendo? Ports in general are bad? Marketed games are not as good as non-marketed games?

As somebody that looks at all of the releases each week on the eShops, most of them aren't really worth being interested in since they're on the level of XBLIGs. The known releases coming to consoles and handhelds means they're mostly vetted so that you know they're at least some that enjoyed them.

My point was exactly what I said in the last sentence of my previous post. I said it was just a little thing that bugged me; it's being blown out of proportion.

It feels like people were just looking for a platform argument, using words like "bait."

Well, I'm happy about getting Kerbal...but I didn't want to pay 40 on Steam.

Is Kerbal really worth 40 assuming that's the PSN price?

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition will be out on 7/12 for $9.99, $7.99 for the first week:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWBfF2-xgHQ

I don't think this is going to be for me, but it's an interesting one-man game published by Atlus. More info on it here and here.

It's a really cool and complex game about building space ships to fly out to the Kerbal moon and/or beyond. They have a pure sandbox mode where you can start building that stuff right away or a career mode where you build up to it, but it's a good way to learn about how hard that stuff can be. There's a wiki and probably tons of Youtube videos to help you get started. You could easily put a ton of time into it if you really get into it.

Bah. The Gravity Rush Avatar bundle was already taken. Thanks anyway. Sony didn't send me the codes I qualified for (Gravity Rush theme and avatar bundle).

Here are some Uncharted 4 multiplayer items for someone: FG7E-CQNG-4RCN

Mai Shiranui is going to be added to Dead or Alive 5: Last Round. There will also be Attack on Titan costumes and a stage.

That will make me give DOA5: LR another look in this week's sale. I've been playing Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 for the past few weeks, and I've been wondering what Honoka, Marie Rose, and Nyotengu are like in the fighting game.

Come on you guys. People are nice enough to give up free codes. The least you could do is post when you use it.

It didn't even occur to me to post them in here back when they first came out.  I posted them in the free code thread.  :/  my bad.

Anyone here own the 1tb COD PS4...the orange and black one. I heard it gets hot, was thinking getting a used one at GS, should I pass?

Personally, I'm always happy if I can read a ton of user reviews on Steam when it releases on PS4 or vita. I generally trust user reviews more than reviewer reviews because you can find reviews from people who clearly understand a given genre or franchise.

i don't care if a game is already out on Steam because I want it on my vita.

I don't care if other people got to play it first because it's not like i need to play every game day 1 anyway.

I think the problem is specifically the vita here. Or more or less the vitas memory. No reason to buy digital only on vita let alone over pay if its available on any other system.
What? Of course there is. I actually play all those games on my vita, whereas they just join my immense, unplayed steam backlog. And many of them are arguably 'best on vita', and even the ones that aren't are still wonderfully portable.

It feels like people were just looking for a platform argument, using words like "bait."
You were the one who singled out a specific platform and critiqued it for something that exists everywhere...

Well, it appears that I am unable to beat the tutorial level where it teaches me the moves.

So much for getting any trophies in Furi.

Sorry, just need to share this cringey moment with the other CAGers here, especially for anyone who is even semi computer literate.

I was out shopping with friends, and one of my friends picked up a game he was planning to purchase. I pointed out it was on sale this week on PSN for quite a bit cheaper... his reply

"Well then I need a new hard drive"

I stopped and looked at him, "Why not just delete something?"

Annoyed he looked back "There's nothing I can delete, I can't even download the newest patches for Elder Scrolls Online."

(I installed a 1TB hd for him around 6-7 months ago...... which means he has to have something he doesn't play.....)

I just, ugh...he wouldn't even listen to the fact he can redownload his games when he needs to.
Sadly my roommate is similar, he doesn't like having to redownload games and will keep them on his console until he beats them or rage quits, then deletes them.

Well the positive is they can resell/trade their game after, unlike digital. Also let others borrow the game(s) if they wanted. It is a matter of preference.

True, but they'll still need a decent amount of space for the physical version.
Managing space on all devices gets to be a task in itself. Which is part of why companies want to make use of "the cloud" for the future of gaming. Not everybody likes the idea but I like the idea of saving time.

I'm telling my personal experience, based on systems I own. I have a 3DS and Vita. I don't have a PS3, PS4, or Xbox.

Should I just never mention other platforms here at all?

Nobody deletes things anymore. That's how Sony can sell those 64G Vita memory cards.

Anyone here play Final Fantasy XIV?  I have six item codes from the Amazon promotion they did.  PM me if you'd like them.

EDIT: Has to be a North American Square Enix account according to the fine print.

Double edit: Gone.

Yeah, I cannot get past the final section where you actually have to beat the dude. Really aggravating that you have to do the whole tutorial over again too if you lose.

It seems like a fun game. Just wish there was a lower difficulty setting.

I beat the tutorial level of Furi on the normal difficulty on my second try. While it's not exactly easy at first it becomes very doable after you've seen the tells for the bosses moves a couple times. I haven't gone any farther than that however simply due to having other games to play.

I'm guessing that this is for PS4 due to the Elder Scrolls Online comment, in which case, did you happen to mention to him how the game is going to take up the same amount of space on his hard drive either way due to the mandatory disc installs?

It's really not too bad, at least not at first. One of the best things for success to get used to is, when you're in close combat learn to charge a slash while you wait to dash away from the super attacks. Also get good at parrying. The second boss is longer to beat, but I found it easier than the first.

I think I love this game. It can get mighty obnoxious between boss fights with the slow movement, having to occasionally release the joystick to reset your walking direction, and the small glitches here and there. The minimal story though? So far great. It's always interesting to enter a new area. The boss designs this far all hit the mark. Every boss offers new challenges and strategies. Most of all, the game plays like an absolute dream. The controls are so tight. It's like when Platinum Games makes one of their high quality releases. I'm only on Boss 3, the old man, but this game is shaping up to be something special. Like Strider mixed with Metal Gear Solid and Shadow of the Colossus.
