Clearly. I think it's twofold; there's the shopping addiction (feels good to acquire something new) along with the stress of not being able to tackle everything I want in one lifetime (feels like I'm always racing the clock). Then there's the addictive quality of actually playing video games which takes over every other aspect of my life in order to mask the gaping holes in my social life; the loneliness, emptiness, depression, anxiety, pain, regret, blah blah, that I struggle through on a daily basis. It's a way of coping with the harshness of reality and possibly less destructive than other addictions out there. But yeah, it gets overwhelming at times and I have to wonder what the hell I'm doing with my life and if any of this is really making me happy (it does, but only when I have the calmness of mind to actually enjoy what I'm doing in the moment without looking ahead or worrying about the future). I look at it as money < backlog < time. The Backlog™ is a metaphor for life.

Anyway, sorry to get all heavy on a deals thread. Here's an irreverent gif as a reward for treading through my bullshit.

Are you single? If so, my personal recommendation is to quit television and gaming cold turkey. Take at least a year off maybe two. This will force you to find new things to do, which will help with many of the issues. Going out, a physical hobby, and social hobbies will help with Fitness and loneliness and all that goes hand-in-hand with happiness. If you're young and single it's just the matter of doing it. Hard, but the hard shift in your life will force you to adapt far more than little changes.

If you're married with kids, forgive yourself a few minor bad habits like buying some games on sale.

This isn't to say gaming is inherently negative, but it's pretty clear your having some issues that means you need to fix them. Serious issues require serious changes to your life, and it's not worth half assing.

I ask these following questions seriously and not in an attempt to ridicule. I also don't expect answers because they're for you.

Do you have anything going on with your life? Do you have a job? Do you have goals? It seems like you're trying to use video games as a band aid for some major life issues.

I would recommend packing all of your video games up for at least a month and put your time and effort into improving your life. Avoid this site and all other gaming sites and just try to quit the addiction cold turkey.

Edit: Oops, affa basically said the same thing.

I can sum it all up in a song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObR5OuY2d94

I mean, you can either work on it to improve it or waste your life away and die alone, full of regrets.
Exactly. The idea of sitting around playing video games and goofing off all day sounds fun but the reality is that it gets old. Your body and mind will start rebelling against this lazy lifestyle.

Best thing you can do for yourself is get out and exercise, figure out a plan for your life and start accomplishing something. Like was said before, make small goals. A little at a time. Accomplishing goals makes you feel good in itself. Start simple like going out for an hour walk or something. Just doing that will help. Then you can feel better about wasting time on fun.

Edit: Time is our most precious resource. We have a very limited amount of life in us and while there’s nothing wrong with fun and enjoying yourself, when taken to excess and abused so that you aren’t accomplishing anything with your time or life, it becomes a huge problem.

I don't suppose anyone knows what the fuck is going on with Sony and Amazon eh? From what I understand they have not had $10 or $20 PSN cards on there since at least mid April. Now they have no PSN currency cards available. No 12 month PS+ cards either last I looked.

I know it's not really a problem because other retailers sell them just fine, but I typically use Bing rewards and cash out for Amazon credit so I can use that toward my gaming habits.

I just ordered a $20 code through Sony rewards app and it was available immediately. On the order page there was a get your coupon link. So from the looks of it if you order it through the app you’ll get it right away.

Yeah, it sucks because those were a great way to use those $1 No Rush shipping credits on digital items.

Out of curiosity, is Burnout Revenge Remastered worth picking up? Right now I'm holding off until it drops to $20 or less. Just want to hear from those who've played it.

Burnout Paradise Remastered? I thought it was great, one of my rare preorders. The original was a classic but hard to look at today, the remaster is beautiful. I played it non-stop after I got it and only stopped playing it once I got all the trophies. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info, $24 isn't a bad price either. Suddenly felt like I'm about to make a mistake leaving it on the table so to speak. I'll go ahead and get it. Still love the original to this day, hopefully they'll remaster Revenge and 3: Takedown.

After trading my PS4 copy to BB for the $12 and the $10 coupon, I decided to pick it up here and wanted to try gravel.

Madden NFL 18 Standard Edition-7.99

Trying to make some last minute decisions on the current sale.  Any thoughts on any of the following titles would be greatly appreciated:

Y's Origin

Here They Lie

Statik

Wild Arms 3

Okage:  Shadow King

Mortal Blitz

Matterfall

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Super Stardust Ultra (regular and VR)

Sundered

Matterfall

Shadow Blade:  Reload

Haven't found the time to play Ys Origin yet, but I played the first three games in the series (on TurboDuo) and always found Ys to be highly enjoyable.

Here They Lie has an annoying movement in VR. You've got either click-turning or if you have regular turning, it puts black borders around your vision so it's like you're looking through a cardboard tube...

Played Okage: Shadow King on the PS2 and enjoyed it, though it helps to have a guide. The collectable "Tiny Gears" are invisible. Like, you literally cannot see them on a map. You just happen to walk over them and it says you picked it up. Otherwise, it's one I picked up as a PS2-on-PS4 and have been waiting for the time to play.

Super Stardust Ultra is a decent arcade-type game kind of like a superpowered Asteroids, except flying around the ozone layer of a planet rather than deep space.  Looks really nice on a 3D television and even nicer on PSVR (the regular mode, that is, the special VR-exclusive mode leaves a little to be desired.)

Have always heard good things about the Wild Arms series and Ethan Carter. I picked up both of those myself, but again, haven't had a chance to play.

Seems like you want Matterfall since you listed it twice. ;)

Statik is a great PSVR puzzle game. Super Stardust Ultra is best in 2D. I liked Okage as an low-budget, early PS2 JRPG inspired by Earthbound, but it's not as good as that game.

So far, I bought

ESO

InnerSpace

Sine Mora EX

Debating on Final Fantasy 9, Mirror's Edge Catalyst and/or maybe the Battlefield 1/Titanfall 2 bundle

Wild Arms 3 is actually pretty damn good. I've also heard good things about Okage though it's combat still follows the same formula of RPGs

Superstardust is fantastic get that.

Matterfall was my least favorite housemarque game. Good, but just not my genre. Get resogun or alienation instead if u dont have them

Any opinions on LEGO Jurassic? I'm thinking someone already recommended it a few pages back. So my apologies if it's already been well answered in the prior post. It's the only LEGO game that I'm genuinely interested in from this sale.

Edit: For anyone that bought Gravel there are 6 free DLC cars. https://store.playstation.com/en-us/grid/UP1981-CUSA08240_00-GRAVELFULLGAME00/1?direction=asc&relationship=add-ons&sort=price
I love Lego games, but I got kind of bored playing Lego Jurassic. That being said, I only played the Jurassic World part and I've never even seen the older Jurassic movies, so I'm not really a huge fan (I know, I know, but I wasn't even born when the first one released). I'm guessing this game would be good for someone who's a fan of the movies and who has someone else to play with! I thought the coolest thing was being able to play as a dinosaur.

Sounds like I might enjoy it since I'm a fan of the movies. The first was released when I was only 7 years old, I'm 32 now (I suddenly feel old). I remember going to see it at the dollar theater with family. I fell asleep during the early part of it for 15-20 minutes, lol. Stayed awake after that and loved it.

Yeah, I feel like a fan of the movies would enjoy it more. I don't find Lego games too entertaining if I'm playing by myself. I love playing them with my siblings, so even if they're kind of boring, they remain somewhat fun with another person. I'd say grab it, it's cheap! If not, you can always try the demo first to see if you like it.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and pick it while it's cheap. No need to wait and then it's higher priced the next time it's on sale.

I finally checked out my cart for this week and I don't feel good about the purchases I made. Usually I just make rash decisions on an impulse and forget about it, but I've been sitting on these for nearly 2 weeks and the regret had already sunk in well before I bought them. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. Nothing makes me happy. I just want time to play everything without real life getting in the way.
No. 2 rule of deals is if you’re not like “oh it’s finally on sale, purchase!” Then wait to get it another time. You probably don’t want it as much and won’t play it soon.

I mean, you can either work on it to improve it or waste your life away and die alone, full of regrets.
We all die alone in the end though, don't we? Regardless of what we do, it all ends the same.

I'm not lonely because I want to be, I'm lonely because I can't be anything else. I'm just trying to make the best of it.

Thanks for the thoughtful message. I don't want to dismiss anything you guys are saying because it all seems like sensible, logical advice, and I'll be the first to admit that my life is FUBAR. I'm just trying to keep it light here. As far as goals go, this year my goal was to burn through as much of my backlog as possible. I've never gamed as hard in my life as I have this year, so it's been an interesting experiment thus far. (Last year, I dedicated my time to something completely different and quit cold turkey at the end of the year.) For the most part this hedonistic lifestyle has been fun, but overwhelming based on how much good stuff I've missed over the years and the fact that I've barely made a dent in my list. If I take your guys' advice and give up gaming for extended periods, it'll just be that much more stressful when I jump back in because of how much catch-up I'll have to do. That's my OCD's justification anyway.

What's rule #1?

I went kind of crazy on this sale. I sorted my carts into 10 games I really wanted (regardless of price) and 10 games I kind of wanted ($2.99 and under). Now I'm contemplating a third cart with all the leftovers. The only thing that's stopping me is a lack of 20% off code (which would make this decision a lot easier), but I feel like I should buy as much as I want now before digital tax becomes a thing. The caveat, of course, is that these are all strictly backlog titles that I have no intention of playing anytime soon, and I tend to regret those later since sales are unpredictable and prices always drop. On the other hand, I did promise myself that once my PS+ sub lapses, I'm not going to renew it, so I want to take advantage of as much as possible while I have it. If this was the mid-year sale, I think the next comparable one will be at the end of year, so this might be my last big sale.

With all that being said, I do think I'm going to ease up on the spending from now on. I've been having some recent car troubles and intermittent health issues, so I might need to take a step back. Well...I'll wait until today's deals are posted first.

Just like almost every Uncharted fan has been saying since the original game came out, Nathan Fillion IS Nathan Drake.

This fan film was awesome!

After waiting until the absolute last minute for a possible 20% code (), I finally bought everything I was interested in:

AER: Memories of Old

Antiquia Lost

Deep Ones (both PS4 & Vita for separate trophy lists)

Full Throttle Remastered (watch it be part of next month's Plus lineup now)

Jet Set Radio (both PS4 & Vita for separate trophy lists)

The Longest 5 Minutes (a bit high at $19.99, but I'll accept it since it's digital-only with a $40 MSRP)

Maximo: Ghosts to Glory

Metropolis: Lux Obscura (both PS4 & Vita for separate trophy lists)

Neurovoider (Vita)

Resident Evil 2 (PS1 Classic)

Save the Ninja Clan (Vita; already own the PS4 version)

Sine Mora EX

Way of the Passive Fist

Snake Pass ($7.99), Rogue Aces ($7.79), and The Mummy Demastered ($11.99) are on my Wish List, but I can wait for bigger discounts on those. I'm ready to ignore today's Activision/EA sale now.

Settled on...

N.E.R.O.

Deep Ones

Red Faction 2

Decided against Outcast: Second Contact and The Technomancer since I can see them getting a better sale before I'd actually play them.

Final haul for me, picked up what I really want to play:

WipEout Omega Collection

DiRT Rally

Madden NFL 18

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

What Remains of Edith Finch

Blackwood Crossing

Burnout Paradise Remastered

Gravel and the 6 free DLC Cars

LEGO Jurassic World

I feel you pain Vigilante, I held out for 20% off as long as I could too. All in all for still a good amount of money saved on games for me during this sale.

First of all, regarding your second paragraph and confusion. Stop being ridiculous. Don't worry about future catch up.

A great deal of our personality is actually just addiction to patterns. Changing patterns is hard but once we switch patterns our mind rationalizes our new Behavior and that becomes the new pattern. The entire point of going cold turkey for a year is to reset your patterns. By the end of the year ignoring you will no longer care about gaming. It's the same with TV we have all these shows we want to watch but if you stop watching you will not even know what's on let alone what's coming out and the draw will disappear.

Now regarding your intro, which is perhaps more important. It sounds like you're calling out for help. Here's the thing, we can't help you. We are just voices on the internet. You need to help yourself. Whatever that means. Stop the deflecting, stop making excuses, and do whatever the f*** you need to fix yourself. Even your name is self-deprecating and self-defining. Stop that s***. Get your f****** ass out of the house. get off this forum and go fix yourself. Someone needs to kick your ass into gear and the only person in a position to do this right now is you. And if you can't get off your f****** ass to fix yourself, at least stop whining that you're unfixable. You're not. Stop focusing all the reasons you can't fix yourself and go fix yourself. Close this website and go join something like jiu-jitsu where there's both physical outlet and community. Put your energy into that rather than into saving 3 bucks on a game you're aren't going to play. If you are disabled or something and can't do that, then replace it with something that you can do.

If I sound harsh it's only because it's important. I would prefer you listen to what I'm saying rather than respond.

Seriously this. I was really depressed at one point of my life and my wife suggested I join CrossFit. It was the best decision I ever made. I made friends, got fit, lost 6 inches of my waist and have an awesome life now.

You need to get out of the house. Do something different, talk to people, and most importantly change your attitude. It's just on the internet and it's tough to read what you write because you are so self depricating. Change things. You can.

Partially true. There are sections where you can fight 5-8 enemies at once. Like the snake dungeon. Even if you are getting less experience from them the individually they still give more added up than killing 2-3 higher level enemies till around lv20 or so. Makes for a very good early grinding spot.

I'm kind of going through changing my pattern myself. Moved to a new city for a job and pretty much most of my old patterns have changed. I'm still working on friend getting and figuring out what I like, but I do recommend experimenting a bit. Just try things and stick to whatever seems to fit fine. Eventually you will have your stuff in order enough and want to get other stuff going, so it's just an endless process of adapting and improving.

Just be fine and take things slowly. Also be yourself and be happy with yourself even if it's different. Heck I advocate eroges on these forums all the time. I'm not embarrassed and it's just me.

Wild Arms 3 is actually pretty damn good. I've also heard good things about Okage though it's combat still follows the same formula of RPGs
wild arms 3's main issues would be its length being around 60-70 hours, finding things on the world map with bare bones directions like go north or west when there's mountain ranges and such in the way preventing you from going in a straight line on top of the locations being invisible made it a pain in the ass at times. Easier to just youtube and use a map guide to narrow things down alot.

Last issue is that you have no multi targeting skills/abilities besides magic special skill on the one and items on virginia. Summons can multi target but the amount you can use them is so limited they may as well not be there.

Targeting is another issue in both 3 and okage since enemies can be in their own groupings so you can't target all of them outside a few limited use things like summons in 3 or aris over drive skill in okage.

Oh and lastly both can have semi annoying frequent encounters. Though wild arms 3 is random encounters and you can skip some of them via an in game item gauge. okages are on screen encounters and the enemies can swarm you or go through walls/the floor and get you at times.

Waited until last minute and got Voltron, Prey DDE, Shooty Fruity, Ys Origin, Pillars of the Earth, Hidden Agenda, and How to Survive 2, decided against Mortal Blitz, Shadow Tactics, and Reus.
