Ha I got an email for playstation firmware 6.0 beta and I didn’t even sign up. Hopefully this is the one that lets us change our PSN name. They said sometime before PSX this year we should expect it...

Nice lineup, the only one I own is Here They Lie. Glad I didn't pick up Bound by Flame the other week, though I probably still won't play it. I'm wondering about the Dead by Daylight Special Edition; I'm guessing it doesn't include the Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street and Saw chapters? What exactly is so special edition-y about it? Anyway, I'm not really into multiplayer at all, but I hope to get to it in time for Halloween.

I definitely want to buy Dragon's Dogma. I played the shit out of that game last gen. But now you guys are making me want to wait a few days in case we get a discount code.

Off the topic of sales, if one were to be interested in acquiring a baseball game is there any reason to wait for MLB The Show 18 to go on sale, or just get 17? Like are there any huge graphical or gameplay differences that make one better than the other? I probably won't go for either any time soon since I'm not totally sold yet, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for sports and I haven't played a good baseball game in a long time. It would just be nice to know which one to add to the 'ol wishlist and grab it when I'm ready. I'm only interested in the offline career mode, if that helps.
It’s a pretty stale franchise like nba 2k series. I have 16 and it still holds up well.
Anyone else have any input before my post gets buried?

Pick up MLB 18 when it goes on sale again if you're just interested in the career mode. The latest iteration of it has more interactions with managers/trainers etc. Since you aren't in a rush to grab it quickly its only a matter of time before it goes on sale again.

Only $2.99 now for this gem:
Get Ready for Ultimate Kids Racing Adventure. This game will give you chance to make your kids happy with your happiness.

I can't believe weeks later that is still the description of that game.

Alright I’ll grab the original guacamelee when it next goes on sale. The sequel can wait till a sale down the road.

Right now I have dead cells in my sight and might preorder that!
If you went to the E3 event at the movie theaters the voucher gave away the ps4 version of the first game for free, so check the trade forum you may be able to get it cheap.

Seems like the Totally Digital sale is also their promotion for the big indie games for the month, which are all on sale for pre-orders (two already out) and covers:

:ps4: :vita: Chasm - $17.99 - 10% Off - Ends 8/6

PSVR Pixel Ripped 1989 - $24.99 - Out 7/31

:ps4: Flipping Death - $15.99 - 20% Off - Ends 8/7

:ps4: Death’s Gambit - $15.99 - 20% Off - Ends 8/14

:ps4: State of Mind - $35.99 - 10% Off - Ends 8/15

:ps4: Guacamelee! 2 - $15.99 - 20% Off - Ends 8/21

:ps4: Pizza Titan Ultra - $11.99 - 20% Off - Ends 8/21

PSVR Torn - $25.49 - 15% Off - $23.99 - 20% Off - Ends 8/28

PSVR Bow to Blood - $23.99 - 20% Off - Ends 8/28

:ps4: Donut County - $10.39 - 20% Off - Ends 8/28

It doesn't even include Dead Cells, Slime Rancher, Shenmue I & II, Fire Pro Wrestling World, and a few other big indies that makes this a wallet-draining month.
Yeah, I totally underestimated August. Chasm (yes, technically July), Dead Cells, Death's Gambit, Guacamelee 2, Shenmue I & II and then maybe Fire Pro Wrestling Word for me. May wait for a sale on the last one though.

As for the PS+ games, I already have a physical copy of Mafia III but I might give Dead by Deadlight a go on my second account. Not a big fan of multiplayer games though. Best Buy only gives $3.28 at the moment for Mafia III so it's not even worth the effort to me.

It's bad for used games but I think developers deserve the money more than gamestop anyway. Plus I'm all for moving towards an everything is digital future.
How is it bad for used games?

Sounds like it's going to be treated as a regular update. As long as it's not a code I don't think it's a big deal.

I guess I am feeling literary this week. Picking up Walden and Deiland (seems obviously inspired by the Little Prince) but to balance that out a little I decided to preorder Pizza Titan Ultra.

Yeah, Walden has been circling my cart too. I never read the novel, so this feels like a way to kill two birds. Still priced kinda high though; I always feel compelled to buy these games new but indie titles tend to drop off steeply.

I just played through the Walking Dead Final Season demo. Super pumped for the first episode 8/14 (already preordered).

It's considered the special edition compared to the PC version. It includes the Spark of Madness, Of Flesh and Mud, The Last Breath and I think some cosmetic dlc as well. There's also the A Lullaby in the Dark dlc that's available for free.

I appreciate it. Was looking for recommendations. Do you have any?
For classic shmups like side- or vertical- scrolling bullet hell, Raiden V.

Along those lines check out Rogue Aces it's awesome, and probably my favorite game this year. It a modern wings of Fury if that means anything to you.

If you like dual stick shooters, you're in luck, there are tons of awesome ones on sale. I highly recommend Android assault Cactus and Nex machina. Crimson land is amazing and fluid but not Everyone likes the graphics ... the gameplay is on point though. Neon Chrome, judge, time recoil, and Tesla versus Lovecraft are all solid by the makers of crimson land, but each veers off its own little directions to make them unique.

Updated the firmware to 6.0 and have absolutely no idea what has changed.

EDIT: According to Dualshockers https://www.dualshockers.com/sony-sending-invites-ps4-6-0-system-software-beta/ the beta doesn’t have any visible updates. Just the regular stability nonsense. Pretty odd for a .0 update.
Sounds like the update, if it really isn't getting any new features, is primarily focused on "stability" which has been a classic Nintendo euphemism for piracy prevention. Must be major security issues if they're dedicating an entire milestone update to it.

I pre-ordered dead cells. Idk if I’m just into the hype or what but the buzz seems real on this game and the discount for plus members put it over the top.

Looks awesome andI can’t wait.

Dead Cells is alright. A bit repetitive after a while, but good. I stopped playing it in early access, as I didn't want to burn out on the game before release. Worth a buy i'm sure.

Thank you so much. I will check out the ones I dont already have that you mentioned. Already considered rogue aces before your post and there is another that is like 1.50 with luffawte or something I the name. Assuming g it is ww2 related.

Why? Doesn't bother me in the slightest.
For me, the entire point of buying certain games physically involves the notion of not requiring an internet connection in order to install and play it. Think of t hose in the midwest, or others in the military - they don't want to nor have time to deal with it. And even though I have a great internet connection, it's just a matter of principle. I shouldn't need the internet to play a reskin of a PS1 classic, period. This is pure arrogance on the dev's part. With Switch and NBA 2k, at least they literally had no option due to cart sizes. These guys have no excuse; they have bluray drives.

Games just don't work this way anymore. Pretty much all games require a day 1 patch these days. And I am not sure why people in the Midwest don't have time for downloads. Why is their time more valuable than mine?

They often have really bad internet, e.g unable to stream 1080P. So it takes 25+ times longer for them to download. And that's assuming they don't have data caps.

It's just the beta that doesn't have the major features in it at the moment.

I live in rural Oregon. I can't stream 1080p either. But I would bet that those Spyro games would still take less than 10 minutes to download.

I find that fairly unlikely unless the games are incredibly small. I have pretty bad rural internet, it takes about 20 minutes for 1 gig of data to download on PSN. I am assuming it'd take me multiple hours for those downloads. I know others have it worse than me as well.

But that said I don't really disagree with your sentiment honestly, in this case the first game is still on the disc so just play that and let the others download while you sleep or at work or whatever. I mean I do think it's kinda dumb all the games aren't on the disc but I don't think it's a really big issue as far as internet speeds and such are concerned.

i have Comcast high speed internet and it takes me longer than that to download 1 gig living in Pittsburgh, sometimes as much as an hour to download 1 gig

You're downloading at about 7 mbps, which is not that bad. If your internet is closer to 1.5 mbps, that'd be about 1 hr 45 min to download 1 GB. If the game is 4 GB (pretty decent estimate, imo), that's 7 hours.

But still, I hate the idea of getting a physical copy and only 1 out of 3 games is actually on disk. It's worse than FFX/FFX-2 on Vita, or Bayonetta 1+2 on Switch.

Yeah like I said I totally agree it's dumb, I just don't find it to be too big a deal since the first game is on the disc at least. If the entire thing was a download that would be pretty freaking lame.

If the Crash trilogy is anything to go by, Spyro trilogy will come in at a similar 24 GB for all 3 games. So estimate 16 GB day 1 download to get the last 2 games? Maybe they wanted to avoid paying for a higher capacity cartridge for the Switch and decided to keep it the same even on the other consoles?

FFX-2 makes sense (beyond Vita game cart capacity), Bayonetta makes less sense (they didn't want to pay for a higher capacity cartridge).

Wonder how Sony and Nintendo handle these releases since they're the ones footing the bill for the bandwidth.

Just to be clear, is Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 all on disc?
2 discs to be precise, one for each collection. Guess Activision didn't want to spend the cash on a second disc like Capcom did. I'm still getting Spyro Reignited but that is a pretty cheap move on Activision's part.
