If anyone like me rarely logs into an Xbox console anymore check your Xbox Live messages if you haven't in the past couple of weeks. I turned on my Xbox 360 today, and to promote the Xbox Summer sale last month Xbox Live sent me a $10 code. The message was set to expire in two weeks. It looks like Xbox messages get deleted one month after they are sent.

If you save the code in the message you have until September 30 to redeem it. Whenever you redeem it you then have 90 days to spend it. As soon as I saw the message I redeemed it. I should have waited until I needed it or until it was about to expire.

It's probably very YMMV, but now I'll be sure to check my Xbox messages once a month.

 
Been playing Dead Cells and it's been great so far. The game is an infusion of Dark Souls into a Castlevania-style mold, though I'd say it's more in line with Dark Souls than Castlevania. The combat feels a bit like DS where you'll do well to make good use of your dodge roll to avoid attacks and get behind enemies, but the variety of items and abilities you can unlock could certainly allow for more direct confrontation styles. My current build has a sword and ice blast as my main attacks, so tougher enemies or groups I can freeze for a few seconds with the ice blast to let me get some free shots with my sword. You also have two items, which so far has been a turret-style thing I can drop to take shots at enemies to draw their focus and a grenade that does a decent amount of damage. I've seen bows and shields as other items for the attack slots, so there's some opportunities for turtling or longer distance styles depending on how you play. The also has some cool ways of using your environment, like hitting doors with your sword to stun enemies that are near it along with a ground pound move that can kill weaker enemies or stun stronger ones, which is vital since longer drops will stun you for a few seconds instead of kill you. The game itself is more forgiving than Dark Souls and Castlevania, so it should be easier for complete newbies to get into.

Awesome. Based on the reviews, this is a definite buy. I plan on getting it for the Switch for the portability, but sad I missed out on the discount lol.

 
I got Dead Cells on Steam during a sale but hadn't played it much since I wanted to wait for the full release to really dive into it. Decided to double dip and get the PS4 version for trophies and to support indie devs making quality single-player games. I really like how it always feels like I'm making some progress even during a failed run either through unlocks or learning something about the enemies. Not too big of a  fan of roguelikes where I start over with nothing so this is right up my alley as was Rogue Legacy.

That's good to hear, I'm not a big roguelike fan either but if there is a sense of progression and unlocking and the character actually getting better then I'm all in but if it's just starting over from scratch each time then no thanks.
 
I own it on multiple platforms. It's definitely been eclipsed by other games aping its style, but the Amnesia games are definitely still worth a look. They've got problems, but ultimately they're required playing for any horror fan.

This Quake-con sale is pretty trash. I just bought Doom VFR for $5 (plus GCU) cheaper on disc just this last week. Nearly all the Bethesda titles have been cheaper in the past.

As a very recent PSVR owner, I want more sales on VR games! Thankfully Here They Lie is free this month.

 
Not really interested in Dead Cells, but Flipping Death looks fun. Anyone have thoughts on that? (Yeah, I already missed the preorder price, so I won't be getting it anytime soon.)

I added Knowledge is Power to my collection even though it's local multiplayer only. Or at least, I'm assuming it is. The details on the product page are kind of sketchy. Can I play online or against the CPU since I obviously don't have any other choice?

The Dark Descent is kind of tough/rough, but memorable. I actually liked A Machine for Pigs a bit more, although it's a glorified walking simulator with survival horror elements. Like zerokarizma said, they're kind of essential for horror fans.

Yeah, this sale and the "flash" sale have been very lackluster and unoriginal. The only thing I have in my cart for this week is still The Wardrobe, waiting and hoping for that magical 20% off code to come through before the sale ends.

PS3 users should have been worried a long time ago.

Seriously, though, it probably doesn't benefit publishers to push PS3 games now because fewer people are playing those systems. That said, I bought Bayonetta and Wizardry during the last month and still haven't played either of them. But I do buy PS3 games when they go on sale if the discount is big enough.
 
I just noticed how many cheap indie games are on sale. Is it better to buy more dirt cheap games with shorter play experiences or buy one or two really good but more expensive games? I've got a little over $15 in my PSN wallet.

I'm not familiar with the drama surrounding this title, what happened? I loved the first one and pretty much everything Q games has put out so I'm genuinely curious.

Depends on your mood really. I personally try to buy indie games under $5 and prefer them to be 60%+ off in a sale. So for me I would go for the cheaper ones knowing the more expensive ones will eventually be cheap as well.

I don't think there's any drama, I think he's just saying he bought it and hasn't played it and now it's on deep sale. Basically, something we've all experienced a couple thousand times.
 
Just bought Neon Chrome and Time Recoil that are both cross buy for PS4 and Vita. Played both on my Shield Portable and loved them. Neon Chrome is great because of the roguelike elements and upgrades. Time Recoil is more like Hotline Miami. But the only way to get Time Recoil with the discounted price is to buy the Vita version.

If you dig neon Chrome, you should also pick up jydge. It's by 10tons too, has a sort of Judge Dredd theme, but is mission-based instead. I enjoyed it more than neon Chrome, personally.

He gave it a 2/10 and didn't even make a number 2 joke.  There may not be much humor in the game, but there wasn't any in the reviewer either.

 
Trying to take advantage of that 15% off eBay code today and annoyingly,there aren't many sellers selling digital codes for PS+, mainly physical cards. I'm in New Zealand, so having a card shipped to me isn't really an option. Anybody know of any other sellers selling digital codes? I've only been able to find one so far.

And what the hell is up with some of these prices? Some people are selling cards at way more than $60 (some are priced at $70 - $80), and then shipping on top of that.

You get the two expansions with the Deluxe Edition for 75% off, which gives you two new areas that are both pretty good. One of them is Danganronpa-themed with the enemies having Monokuma masks and the boss being a big Monokuma statue.

Madden 19 looks fantastic, but I don't like the fact that the career mode I used to love is gone and replaced by this "story" stuff. I hear the story mode is good, but that's not what I want out of a football game.
