Thinking of getting a PS4 but I'm not seeing any deals right now on PlayStation Plus...  I assume buying the system gets one some sort of PlayStation Plus for free but does anyone know if that assumption is correct and if so for how long?  (Also if you've seen a deal I'm not seeing please don't hesitate to let me know.) 

Edit: And just to confirm also.  Only some games have an additional discount off of PSN right?

Yes to the additional discount during sales on PSN, this alone usually pays for the year of Plus for me. Can't speak to the free trial of plus though.

Dude come on. You’re thinking of getting a ps4 but need a plus discount. Are you new to cag or the shopping season? Plus had its best deals during Black Friday/Christmas shopping. You’re late a few weeks. Ditto for console sales. Coupons don’t work on plus and it’s worth it to get it, always.

I have played it a lot over the course of the year and the last few updates have done a good job of smoothing over the rough edges.

Yeah, I put in over 50 hours into FH3 and the new game is more of the same with quite a few rough edges to it that made me glad I didn't buy it.

I haven't played much of Detroit, so it didn't make the list.

To me the new Hitman is also “just more to the same”. Not a bad thing but there are other games more deserving of the GoTY lists. Heck, I personally enjoyed FH4 more. But that’s why they’re called opinions.

It is Hitman Season 2, so it should be pretty similar to the first season. For me, Hitman 2 takes the core of the first season and made it much better while Forza Horizon 4 took the core of FH3 and kind of made it a bit worse like they didn't have any good ideas for how to take it to the next level. It's fine if you don't agree with my opinion of Hitman, but it's my list of favorite games of the year, so it has the games that I most enjoyed this year.

And no, Hitman's not my favorite series since I didn't really care for any of the games until Hitman.

I'm probably not the best authority since I hadn't played a Sonic game in years (still have Unleashed, Generations, and Mania Plus in the backlog), but I was surprised by how fun Sonic Forces was. Then again, I only paid $10 for my copy from Gamefly during a past sale; I'm not sure $20 digital is a good price point because you'd be stuck with it vs. being able to sell off a physical copy.

 
I rented Forces from Redbox and just charged my way through the game as fast as possible. I don't agree with underrated. I thought it was pretty bad.
 
Hmmm....wonder if they'll be new games added to the sale tomorrow.  It's Tuesday but it's also New Year's.  Maybe everybody's off?

We should get the PS+ January games too, I guess?  If someone's there to flick the switch?

 
Resurrected my Vita (the formatting table corrupted and I stopped using it) and I forgot how much I enjoy that things. Shame Sony did such a poor job marketing and supporting it, but transferring saves for FFX is great. 

With the 20% coupon and discounted credit, I got:

Uncharted Trilogy

TLoU PS4

Ys VIII

Bloodborne

The Order 1886

Pixeljunk Shooter 

FFX (PS4, already had on cart for Vita)

May look at the list one more time, but these will keep me busy for quite awhile.

 
looking at the fmv games--  ( Bunker, Late shift, and Infectious...) anyone played --  have opinions on these?  I wonder if going for the plat will be a long repetitive bore-  seems buying separately is a little cheaper then the bundle--  ( I grew up on a farm so don't trust my math )  silly Sony

Thanks for mentioning this. Had this in my cart since the beginning waiting for a email coupon. Good thing i didn't pull the trigger yet.

I'm probably one of the only people who'd do this, but after hearing the annoyingly bad English voice acting in videos, I changed them to Japanese. Sure the lip-syncing didn't match, but it sounded much better IMO.

so the game is bad because you did a speed run? like you already must of had in your mind you didnt want to play it in the first place.

I love FMV games. I've played all the ones from Wales Interactive, including the latest one not included in the bundle, The Shapeshifting Detective. My favorite of the four is Late Shift. If you've "played" Netflix's latest Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, this one feels like a very similar choose your own adventure/interactive film (though not as much of an elaborate, high concept rabbit hole). My least favorite of the four is The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker because it involves typing up interrogation questions (you can plug in a keyboard to do this, or use the annoying controller input option). The easiest plat of all of them is The Bunker, since it's more or less linear (there's a collectibles trophy that'll take you 1-2 hours to run through). The others all require multiple playthroughs for 100% (I've platted them all; like I said, I love FMV games).

tl;dr: Get Late Shift, and possibly The Bunker, if undecided.

Since I know you're from the Xbox side of things, if it looks interesting at all to you, you can't go wrong with Horizon Zero Dawn. I highly recommend it if you like gorgeous games and fun bow gameplay.

So the end of my little 1-year "backlog" experiment is over and I've completed over 250 titles this year alone. Funnily enough, I had less than 250 games before the year began and then it just ballooned from there. All of the same early backlog titles are still on the shelf or gathering digital dust, while I played all the ones I wanted to play (most were completed in a day or less). It's a record I won't likely be beating this year, but 2018 will always be remembered as my super-indulgent, hedonistic year of excess time-wasting (but in a good way).

It's strange, I look down my list and brief comments and I can remember all of them -- some of them feel like a really long time ago and some of them feel just like yesterday -- but this list basically represents how I spent my lonely year in full.

2018: The Year of the Backlog

I have both Hitman games for Xbox One and cant figure out why I can’t get the legacy pack unlocked in part 2. And yes I did but the Hitman 1 definitive edition and redeemed the code. When i try to go through the game menu to redeem it then it leads me to purchase it from the Microsoft store and says it’s not available.

I don't know why I'm waffling on picking up Mortal Kombat XL for $5. I bought it on another console for the same price not too long ago and know I would enjoy playing on both systems.

Okay that does it, I'm buying it. I'd be a fool not to. Hopefully I don't find too much more to buy in the last two weeks of the sale. I'm actually going to try and cut down on the video game spending.
