Random off topic question, anyone have a tip to go full digital on games?  I gotta stop this physical collecting obsession I have and it's mad rough.  i'd love nothing more than to take all my 200+ PS4 games and hand them in for digital codes lol.  But the physical loving dipshit inside my head says don't do it.

HELP ME lmao

I’m so glad I aged out of that shit. The hardest part was getting rid of all the collectible crap I had.

List all that stuff on craigslist and let it go.

Just buy large external drives and store your games there? Also only buy games you will play in the near future unless it's dirt cheap, and even then try to play them. I'm horrible at this honestly, but yeah I still prefer a physical game myself especially for niche games. I can do with digital AAA games more often though.

While going digital could save on physical space you won't find many deals compared to physical if any at all these days.  I typically only buy digitally if it's cheaper than the physical copies or it's a digital only game.  Like nitro said you need to avoid buying games unless they are dirt cheap or you will play them right away.  I've stopped buying games unless they fall into one of those 2 categories like the 5$ 3ds games at target a couple months back.

I'm avoiding buying games and tackling my backlog.  I've already gotten it down to 157 titles this year.

Yea I need to do it. It's getting ridiculous

Already have an 8TB external so I am set lol

Dirt 4 unless you have a wheel and want a hardcore sim. Dirt rally is really not very user friendly with controller
I disagree. I platinumed it with a controller. It's challenging for sure, but not as a result of poor controller support. I would say that it's up there with GT Sport and Forza when it comes to simcade style racing games with good controller support.

Dirt Rally @ $8 or Dirt 4 @ $12 ... thoughts?
Can't go wrong with either IMO. The main difference is that Dirt Rally has bespoke point-to-point rally courses whereas Dirt 4 has procedurally generated ones. On the plus side that means that in Dirt 4 you never have to race the same course more than once if you don't want to, but on the downside the procedurally generated courses are nowhere near as good as the bespoke ones from Dirt Rally.

Dirt Rally also has the Pikes Peak hill climb which I found to be a fun challenge. There's no hill climb in Dirt 4. Both games have Rallycross (with D4 having more tracks). D4 also brings back the landrush race type from Dirt 3. Personally, I don't care much for rallycross or landrush.

don't do it lol (just have better self-control and only buy games you are going to play immediately)

Quite simple for the digital games for me ... Only buy if you're going to play that day. $30 off a $60 game you will never play is a $30 loss when you buy it digitally (physical has the possibility of trading or selling it, so it may be less of a loss). I'm very happy to have reduced my physical collection to 4 games right now. I keep preordering physical games during Target b2g1 and the like, but I usually have a day where I go through and cancel a bunch of preorders because I realize I don't want physical items anymore.

I most got rid of collectibles, and try to focus on collectible hardware that I will immediately use. It's expensive but at least it has a function. I often buy collector's edition guides as I play through games, as it works well as a collectible replacement that actually has utility, and it's easy to get rid of when I decide I'm done with a game.

I still buy disc if I’m real up in the air on it so I can return it or play it. Of course when buy on disc it’s just another reason not to play it.

Well, as if things can't help but go from bad to worse, last week Tuesday I'm making a left turn on a green arrow and the woman in the oncoming lane decides, "Eh, why stop?"  T-Bones me, obliterates both passenger doors, blows the airbags and totals my car.  Stress ensues since then as I attempt to find a good deal on a new car.  Last night I decide to take a moment, relax, and watch a DVD.  Pop a disc into my PS3, it's playing for less than five minutes when suddenly the PS3 turns off.  I attempt to turn it back on and I get a green light, yellow light, then flashing red light.

Yep, yellow light of death.  My poor backward-compatible PS3...  All my save files... And it's holding the fourth disc of my Early Edition complete series hostage.  :(

Do places actually exist that can repair a YLOD system?

Last night I decide to take a moment, relax, and watch a DVD. Pop a disc into my PS3, it's playing for less than five minutes when suddenly the PS3 turns off. I attempt to turn it back on and I get a green light, yellow light, then flashing red light.

Yep, yellow light of death. My poor backward-compatible PS3... All my save files... And it's holding the fourth disc of my Early Edition complete series hostage. :(

Do places actually exist that can repair a YLOD system?
there are places that advertise it, but they're extremely shady. if you have any technical skills like soldering, you may be able to ham out a temporary fix, but it's kind of 50/50 whether or not it works. Same thing happened to my BC ps4 and I tried everything to fix it.

Wow... I am so sorry to hear. Thank god you didn't get hurt. Hope insurance situation works out so you can get a better car without too much additional expense.

Does anyone else read only the first few sentences of the paragraphs people post or none at all?

Just skipping all your nonsense opinions and predictions.
I didn't even finish reading this post.

When this generation started I thought I had a good system going where I would only allow myself to have at most 2 physical games and I wouldn't buy another one until I finished one and either traded it in or sold it. That system went out the window a year in.

It gets worse: "This Season Pass will apply to 62 costumes and 2 new characters released during the period of March 2019 - June 2019." Only until June!

My #1 motivator to switch to digital was price. I used to hate the impermanence of digital -- the unreliability of internet and the fact that servers could go down at any time -- but when I saw flash deals for $5 or less, I wondered why I hung on to physical for so long. Unless you're willing to settle for pre-owned GameStop titles, it'll never match those deals. Plus I've got way too much shit laying around. If there's a fire or something, I'll lose everything. At least all my digital purchases are synced to my PSN account.

fuck, rough deal. Sorry to hear that, glad you're all right. I guess the green light must have been an omen, eh?

Sorry to hear about that incident. Glad that you made it through.

In regards to your PS3, I'm not sure what model you have but if you Google the hair dryer trick, that rejuvenated my OG PS3 long enough for me to back up all my saves and transfer them to another unit. Hopefully it works for you.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Yeah, I'm okay. Had a bit of soreness in my left wrist and forearm for a few days following (which sucks because it's my dominant hand and I work on a computer all day), but nothing broken. :)

Not as much as I wish, unfortunately. What I got from my insurance only came up to about half the cost of what my new car will be. And when I say new, I don't mean new-new, just new to me.

I didn't think of it that way, but yeah, I guess it connects. It should have quickly went yellow before the red light started flashing.

It's the 60gb launch model. While doing research earlier, I did come upon pages where people wrote about using a hairdryer or sticking it the oven, but I'm looking for more of a permanent fix. I still have a huge library of PS1, PS2 and PS3 games to play... :(

I had my BC PS3 die a long time ago. You're going to have to let it go. Buy a brand new super slim, it should last you another 10 years or more. That way you can play PS1+PS3 games. Then pick up a used PS2 dirt cheap somewhere, its the only economical option at this point. To buy another used BC PS3 is just throwing away money this far into their lifespans.

Ps3 super slims play ps1 games? Huh I never knew that.

I would suggest a slim over the super slim mainly because of the little things like the grooves, slide open top for putting discs in, lasers go out faster on them and the hard drive slot missing parts.

Ps2 wise you aren't going to get them dirt cheap anymore so good luck there.  Best deal you are likely to find is through estarland for around 65-75$.

I don't like digital b/c I share an account w/ my kids and my youngest plays Fortnite for just about every second he is awake, meaning I can't be logged in to my PS4 to play any digital games otherwise he gets logged out (and vice versus). I also like the ability to sell/ trade physical. However, when it comes to PSVR I only buy digital b/c it is such a pain in the ass to take off the headset to switch games.

I had to download hitman twice like most people because for some reason 3 episodes didn’t unlock the first time, but when I go to look for it under the ps+ tab under library it isn’t there it’s under purchases so is it free of the ps+ license now?

I disagree on the point about choosing a slim over a super slim. I have two super slims on my PSN account, and both work great. I dumped the slim to buy a super slim. The super slims have a later manufacture date on them, so a used one likely will not have as much playtime/wear on it. And I don't think that enough time has passed from one generation to the next yet to determine if the slide top or the lasers will wear out faster on the super slim. It seems to be more of an aesthetic concern for fans of the slims than anything else. Maybe in 10 years we'll know for sure?

Do Legendary Fishing says it has PS Move support, for a nonVR game. Does it really? Are there other games like this? Is it really a VR game.

Be glad you walked away. I had someone blow a red light from the right turn lane as I came across f(as in his was never a straight lane, but turn only)--if I had been a second faster or harder on the gas he'd have T-boned me, NO airbag in that car of mine. Instead, he hit my front bumper, spun me out and I've had recurring neck pain since--this was 2002. Now my neck's a fussy thing--I have to have the exact proper elevation to sleep, sit up straight and can't really hunch without having to crack my neck every hour or so.

Glad you're okay.

This is also news to me. Thanks for the info. I went from a BC PS3 that stopped reading discs to a Super Slim and didn't know about that.
The reason for this is that Sony owns the patent for the chips for the PS1, and they are extremely cheap to manufacture now, so all the chips from the PS1 are included on all models. PS2 chips are more expensive and one of the ways they saved money in the PS3 era is to remove them... This is why only launch PS3's have hardware BC.

The exact opposite is true for MS and the 360, they do not own the rights for the chips and therefore would always have to pay extra for them... This is why the XBone's BC is software based.

To be fair, the Metal Gear Solid Bundle was the last of the PS2 BC, and came out some 18 months after the PS3 release--June 2018 vs November 2016, respectively.
I have that bundle. It began to sound like a jet engine when it was on, even after multiple deep cleanings... I was afraid the ylod was the next step, so I packed it up and put it on display in my game room.

I posted this in the Xbox thread, but Dead or Alive probably has more fans here:

For those not paying attention, Dead or Alive 6 has the worst costume unlock system ever created.  In previous games, beating arcade mode would unlock a costume for the character you used (or 2 costumes in tag mode).  In DoA6, you get "parts" of a random costume for a random character.

https://i.redd.it/denolnyetnj21.jpg

Beating arcade mode awarded ONE part for a costume that costs 1000 parts.  After getting the 1000 parts, you have to spend in game currency to actually get the costume.  Quest mode gives more parts, but there are only so many quests (you probably won't get the costume you wanted after beating all the quests).

They basically put a F2P system in a $60 game.  Koei Tecmo greed is insane.

Oh most definitely they work fine just they have a number of aesthetic and minor issues over the slim. Super slim is the worst to clean of the bunch thanks to the grooves. Though it's still not a dust and fingerprint magnet as much as the phat was. The disc reading sound is also noticeably louder than the slim and phat which I forgot about. Fan wise it's quieter than the phat. My launch phat is quiet as the slim but it's probably an exception to the rule. Laser wise my experience has been that slide top lasers tend to go faster in previous systems. The ps2 slim and gamecubes lasers both died significantly faster than my phat ps2 or wiis. But yeah nothing confirmed yet for the super slim that I know of laser wise.
