Alienation, if she can stand the sci-fi theme. Same concept, loot system, class system, etc. The only thing that takes a bit to get the hang of is the fact that it is level based, not open world based and the active reload mechanic (think Gears of War reloading).
Awesome, I think I have that, so I'll give that a go with her.

Went to play Episode 3 of Life is Strange 2 and got hit with the save corruption bug.  I can choose to start with one of the premade saves they've included for this bug, and none of them match my choices.  No collectibles either.  My cloud save is corrupted as well.  Between this and the large gaps between episodes, it killed my interest in playing, and I love LiS.

I just don’t get how that can be possible. Deacon is just an asshole and you have to spend the whole game with him and he barely has an arc. He never loses the chip on his shoulder even when people are trying to help him (like Rikki or Addy). Everyone is so arrogant. It’s off-putting and hard to sympathize at all.

Don’t even get me started on the length of the game. Jesus, I wish Bend knew how to trim the fat. There’s just too much filler BS in Days Gone that you could take it from a 40-50 hour game to a 15 hour one. I really liked the gameplay at the start of the game, but at like halfway through the game, ughhh, the monotony. I was desperate to finish so I could finally move on. I have like 70% of the trophies, but you couldn’t pay me to go back and get the rest at this point. It’s safe to say that I’ll never play Days Gone again.

Word to the wise. Don’t get this game until it gets under $20. I regret paying full price.
Well, we're playing different games. I love deacon. I disagree that he's arrogant, and if anything, he's far too nice. And no arc? Dude goes through tons learning how to coexist with others.

And there are tons of great characters, from deek to boozer to rikki to kaori to cope to iron mike and more.

Each major town is fantastic, and relatively realistic from an in game perspective. Gun nuts, 'enlightened' slavers [that are allies, no less!], cults, militas, utopian, loners, marauders... and all presented relatively straightforwardly, all just trying to survive. It did political right, presenting a wide range of ideas without hamfisted moral judgement.

The col is the only major misfire in that regard, he's a bit too cartoonish especially during his speeches, but I understand what they were going for.

The open world was magnificent - beautiful, organic, tons of things to do and explore without it ever being a checklist. Hordes are amazing. Survival, especially early on before you're OP, is awesome. I've spent hours just tooling around exploring and I never do that. This is probably the best 'open world' I've experienced.

The few issues I had melted away after awhile. I got used to the gunplay, for example, and ended up loving combat.

I'll be buying any Dlc, and the only dlc I've ever bought and played is dark souls.

Goty for me so far. And top 5 gen, most likely. I'm actually sad the game us over and fear having a long drought where nothing else engages me.

Anyone here long enough knows generally hate and ignore stories in games. Rare exceptions exist, like tlou or horizon zero dawn, where a world is created that grabs me. This is one of those.

If the episodes get delisted and you haven't redeemed them already, you won't be able to download/play those episodes even with the disc or season pass.
I don't think that's true, because it's still possible to redeem delisted games if you have the code. You just can't buy them on the store.

Sorry to hear that. My episode 2 save only got partially corrupted and I had to recollect some of the collectibles. I also made a second save just for backup. Ultimately a lot of the smaller choices don't make that much difference and you probably wouldn't be aware of them otherwise (especially if it's been months since you last played). Don't let that stop you from playing episode 3 which was my personal favorite (for personal reasons). I think the large gaps between episodes work because a lot of "real time" has passed in the game too.

I agree with most of your points, love the game and its world, but don't think it's quite as immersive as Red Dead 2, a game where I could just go to some hilltop and chill for a half hour looking around with my binoculars and listening to the wonderful sounds.

Speaking of which....the sound, along with the dreadful framerate issues and down right weird presentation involving cutscenes and conversations while in the shit are my only real gripes with the game. The sound is great for the most part, but I have a hard time placing what direction a freaker is coming from at times. Not a huge deal, but it stuck out after playing games like RDR2 and the RE2 remake over the last few months.

I also would say it's my favorite game of the year (so far) and in my top five this generation (or close to it), I platted it last night and am waiting on Sony to send me my theme, too bad the digital deluxe themes aren't available for purchase though. I would've bought one for sure.

To be fair, CrepeNuts also called Frisky arrogant and an egomaniac.
What does that have to do with me having an opinion on a game? Are you saying it invalidates it?

Affa and I politely disagreed on how we felt about a game. There wasn’t any malice so I don’t get why you’re trying to stir the pot.

It has to do with your opinion that everyone in the game is arrogant. I didn't think that was an obscure connection.

that 1 cent theme was already free before.  At least I am pretty sure it was since I have it from previous free theme dumps via frisky iirc.

What a fuck ing tenuous connection.
I'll try to dumb it down for you with an example. If I say, "Don't eat at that restaurant, the hot dogs are too spicy and it ruined the entire evening, " but then you recall me saying that warm milk is too spicy a couple weeks ago, wouldn't that suggest that my criticisms of spicyness might be off base?

I remeber reading you couldnt use bestbuy rewards for psn physical credit. I just use some rewards on digetal psn credit. Got the email about 5 mins later. I sure this will end soon as well. Stock up while you can.

Need some help with some game ideas. The gf loves Diablo 3, but I'm really burnt out on that. Are there any couch co-op games that are similar? I saw that Magicka 2 is on sale, was possibly going to bite on that.
My wife and I played Dragon’s Crown like crazy... We got to lvl 100 with at least 3 of the 5 characters. I highly recommend it.

It was Best Buy gift cards no longer being able to buy third-party gift cards that was a big deal when they changed over a while back.

A good Twitter thread by Sucker Punch about behind the scenes info about the Infamous series:

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if that one would interest her. Luckily MK 11 is keeping us busy at the moment, but I know I'll tire of that soon.

I couldn't get past the controls in RDR2. I was so excited for it, but just got bored by the time I reached the first main town. I keep promising myself to get back to it....

I've been curious about Persona 5 for awhile, the art style doesn't really seem like my usual thing but I've heard a ton of great stuff about it and I do enjoy a good turn based RPG. Do I need to have any prior knowledge of the rest of the series to enjoy 5 or would I be fine jumping right in?

I've also been wanting to get into the Yakuza series but I keep seeing conflicting opinions as to whether it's best to start with Yakuza Kiwami or Yakuza 0 (I missed it when it was free with PS+ at the end of 2018) but regardless of which is best to start with, I have no way of playing the ones that are PS3 only. So I'm not sure if that's a series I should try to get into or wait and hopefully they'll do a PS4 version of the rest of them so I can just play through.

Lastly, I've been interested in Kingdom Come Deliverance since it first released. I know it has no magic or dragons or monsters like Skyrim (which I've been playing again lately) but I've got this itch for more medieval adventures and I'm wondering if this game would be good enough to scratch it.

I haven't bought anything new in awhile, I wouldn't mind some community input to help me out. I'm kinda getting tired of playing remasters while i figure out what I even wanna play next and since I can't decide maybe you guys can help. Thanks in advance.

On Trover Saves the Universe DLC:

Did you say DLC?
We sure did and no, we aren’t talking about dingle lickin’ cults…

We’d like to try something new for us with Trover. Instead of lowering the game’s cost over time and charging for new content, we’re going to release new content FOR FREE by keeping Trover at full price for longer than usual. That means, once you’ve purchased the game, you’ll see lots of new Trover adventures coming your way until it doesn’t make sense to do that anymore.
U COOL WIT DAT?
Game released today. Can’t wait to play. Glad I preordered because it seems like it’ll be the only discount for a while!

Did they just extend the double discount sale another week?  I could have sworn it ended today, and some of the titles I had wishlisted are no longer on sale.  Maybe this is a different set of games?  I see that some of them expire on 6/4.

No, it's always been a two week sale. The WB sale ended today.

the games are not directly connected so you can skip three and four and jump right into p5.

Persona 5 is great and requires no previous knowledge of past games. I just picked it up within the last month or so and have clocked in over 100 hours. It’s long. I probably have 10 more hours left if I understand the way the calendar works in the game. I have throughly enjoyed but I’m ready to be done with it.

Each Persona game's story is standalone, so prior knowledge or experience with the series is not required. Previous experience with the series would help you more with understanding social links, weaknesses in battle, and which personas are worth going after, but all of that can be learned while playing or reading a few quick start guides. Major complaint that most people have who've not played a persona game before is the social aspect and how "time consuming" it is. You need to manage your time in the game, but what most folks don't understand is that you're not really meant to get it perfect the first time around, so don't let that stop you and enjoy the journey.

Yakuza is great, you should definitely try it out. The arguments for kiwami or zero is this: kiwami is technically the start of the story since it is the remake of the original Yakuza game. Zero is the prequel, and while it may take place before the events of the main series, it's harder to get into if you're not already familiar with the story and invested in the characters. Things will just seem super random and you won't really understand the charm of the story or game. The other big issue is that Zero was also the newest game before 6, so the gameplay is much better. The combat flows better and if you try to go from that to kiwami, it will feel like a different game entirely. Lastly, it looks like Sega plans to continue doing the kiwami series since Kiwami 3 is already planned/being worked on and after that only 4 needs the update so it will likely happen.

Can't help you on Kingdom Come even though I have it. I haven't played it, but I bought it after seeing some praise for it.

Time jumps a lot near the end of the game so you may be closer to the end than you think

Oof. Thanks for the info. Seeing as how there aren't any good sales today (and haven't been for ages), I may end up getting it. The digital release still has the preorder date until 5/31.

I went ahead and bought Blood & Truth at Walmart too, so I've pretty much blown my gaming budget for the whole year.

Dusting off this old account because I want to say something about the Japanime games...

I've played Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2, in that order.

Kiwami is easily the weakest of the three and only needs to be played because of its story relevance. It's not a bad game at all, but it just offers less content wise than the other two games (two districts versus one, two characters versus one, 0's arcade versus Kiwami's arcade). If somebody wanted to play their first Yakuza game, I'd recommend 0 as it leaves a much better first impression. What you'll lose in callback moments, you'll gain in having more context for Kiwami's events.

Also, it depends on your level of tolerance for this sort of thing but I think it's better to not play them back-to-back. I've only played those three installments and I'm already getting fatigued at the thought of seeing Kamurocho yet again.

I've never played a Persona game before 5. I ignored the weird looking game about school kids shooting themselves in the head and slept on Persona 4, but decided to take a chance on 5 since people wouldn't stop talking about the series.

It's my favorite game of 2018. The combat is like some mash-up of Final Fantasy and Pokemon where you have to apply strategy not just to which teammates you use, but also to the Persona you use. The confidants system did two things I love; forcing you to make real decisions about how you upgrade your abilities by making it impossible to get everything (without using a guide and min-maxing, I guess) and creating the best simulation of living a double life I've seen in a video game. At tlimes I felt like I was playing a Peter Parker simulator without the web shooters.

Also, the game completely nails its presentation, with perfectly executed UI design, battles that ooze style and music that I still listen to, a year later. Anybody who likes JRPGs is making a mistake if they don't play it.

However, an improved version of the game called Persona 5: Royal is coming soon and it would be wiser to wait for that.

it depends as unlike three and four there isn't anything you can really enhance for five that would make it more than negligible additional content. Especially since atlus doesn't want to do a female route again like they did for three.
