Here's a Persona 5 Royal trailer for the West:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzGoNlmLxDE
Okay... what the heck is Persona all about? I hear people praising it, a lot, but I can't get past the art style. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up watching any type of Anime, but I automatically lump things that look like Persona into the same pile. What's the gameplay like? What's the objective?

It is hard to explain. I would recommend experiencing it yourself over people's explanations. Buy it preowned at Gamestop on a Friday and play it for a weekend. If it isn't for you, return it on Monday.

I'm kinda disappointed by Microsoft's acquisition of Double Fine.

Also about that Blair Witch game being an Xbox/PC exclusive.
I thought Double Fine being independent was on purpose. After all the Lucas Arts stuff went down I thought Tim Shafer vowed to keep DF it’s own thing. Microsoft must have offered them some crazy dollars.

I am sure he'd love to but let's be real about it, Double Fine is almost 20 years old now and they never managed to make that one big game that could put them on the map and make them truly independent. They've been jumping from publisher to publisher making games that have cult followings but were only mildly successful or were outright bombs. The past 5 years or so has been almost nothing but crowdfunding, early access (drama included), and old adventure game remasters. They've even had lay offs here and there.

I get the feeling Microsoft probably didn't spend crazy dollars on them.

Haven't kept up with what's been going on with Fallout 76.  Is it still a huge mess?  I don't want to waste disk space if it is still garbage.

Interesting that nothing outside of Midgar has been shown yet huh. I'm hoping for a cool reveal of gameplay beyond that section, otherwise we are in for more episodes than I thought.
I highly doubt we'll get anything outside of Midgar for this first episode.

It's fine. That's about it. They announced a big update for this fall that brings back NPCs, dialog choices, and all that along with a battle royale mode. The battle royale mode is in this trial as a beta test.

We're talking over the Ubisoft E3 press conference now before it starts in about 10 minutes, so you can join us, hang out, and chat when it's live (link).

Anyone know how to start a new Borderlands 2 character at level 30 after downloading the DLC? Supposedly you can do it but I see no option. I would guess you would already be far past level 30 if you had to beat the game first, so I'm pretty sure I'm missing something.

Okay... what the heck is Persona all about? I hear people praising it, a lot, but I can't get past the art style. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up watching any type of Anime, but I automatically lump things that look like Persona into the same pile. What's the gameplay like? What's the objective?
Persona is a mix of turn-based JRPG and social sim. Each game has it's own unique spin on game mechanics and lore, but essentially you spend the day playing a social sim and nights dungeon crawling. For Persona 5 specifically, it's kind of like anime Inception. You enter corrupt people's subconscious to "change their heart" and make them atone for their crimes. Each big villain has a specially crafted dungeon, and there's a randomized dungeon for side quests. As you explore you can collect Personas to use in combat, as well as fuse the ones you have to make stronger ones.

The game plays out a day at a time for almost a year, and if you're not in a dungeon you are playing a social sim where you strengthen your bonds with party members and some NPCs to unlock new abilities and game mechanics.

The game is long, like 120+ hours long.

Want to jump right into the DLC without delay, regardless of how much Borderlands 2 you’ve played? You also have the option to create a new level 30 Vault Hunter already loaded into the start of Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary. Go to the Select Character screen, create your level 30 character, and then start the game to automatically be transported to the new content.

I actually like the idea of permadeath. But, if you can "play as anybody", then what does it even matter? It would be like crashing a car in GTA. You just go get another one.

Surprised there was no Splinter Cell too.
Remember when Watch Dogs 1 looked too good to be on last gen at the reveal? I swear Legion looks worse than their modern games they currently have out. It definitely looked worse than The Division 2 and hell, it looks worse visually than the last two AC games. It's unfortunate.

I thought Double Fine being independent was on purpose. After all the Lucas Arts stuff went down I thought Tim Shafer vowed to keep DF it’s own thing. Microsoft must have offered them some crazy dollars.
I think the closing of Telltale must have shaken them (since that also came out of LucasArts' abrupt shutdown). I remember watching the Double Fine Adventure documentary, and once the crowdfunded Broken Age game went overbudget, they always seemed on the verge of bankruptcy. Plus they've been working on Psychonauts 2 for so long without any other exposure or revenue, I guess it was inevitable. I'm just surprised that Sony didn't buy them out instead, especially since they collaborated on Grim Fandango Remastered (which was at one time a PS4 exclusive), and I don't think Day of the Tentacle or Full Throttle ever released to Xbox either (and so many DF games have been on PS+).

I highly doubt we'll get anything outside of Midgar for this first episode.
Midgar was such a short segment of the game; I highly doubt they'd try to sell an RPG for $60 that takes place in a single town. From what I understand, the episodic nature of FF7 is not like games like Life is Strange or the Telltale games, where they are five small chapters that link into each other. I believe it's supposed to be closer to how Final Fantasy X and X2 are, where both games could be considered two episodes but are each their own story. If Square isn't showing anything outside of Midgar in the trailers, it's likely because they're trying not to reveal much more of what's to come later in the game, kind of like how the Avengers: Endgame trailer only showed clips from the first 15 minutes of the movie.

Considering Square hasn't mentioned anything about it being episodic since they first announced it over three years ago, and the $60 price tag, I'd be highly surprised if they didn't junk the whole episodic idea to begin with. Either that or Final Fantasy VII is Episode 1 and a Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus remake is Episode 2.

If the Final Fantasy VII is still going to be episodic, I wouldn't be opposed to them doing like 3 episodes, 1 for each disc of the PS1 version.

Yeah, if it split into 3 episodes, that would be fine. Episode 1 would probably end around the 1st visit to Nibelheim.

Just hope it isn't something that will take another 5 years to finish.

Didn't disc 1 end at Aeris? I'm hoping for two episodes at most. The first would include Golden Saucer, but I'm guessing they might make some mini-games DLC.

Wasent there leaks and stuff last night. Ff7 is coming out March 3 2020. Didnt hint at it being episodes.

Maybe that stuff was fake?

Perhaps it was. I guess maybe we'll learn more from the Square Enix conference later.

I've also been seeing some Final Fantasy 8 remaster rumors. I would love that if it's true.

The characters have some sort of stat/specialty system so ideally those stats will actually matter and will be the incentive to try and be careful with a character you like. But for that to work the stats have to actually matter and the characters can't be easily replaceable, so if you actually lose joe schmo with +300% gun damage or whatever it feels like an actual loss.

I think the game looks really cool but yeah it's gonna be hard to pull off properly I think.

Thanks Frisky. I was completely missing that there was a "character select" option and was looking for it when starting a new game.

While I understand why, I really wish you could start at the beginning after the boost. Destiny 1 did that but with Destiny 2 and now this you have to sacrifice the entire game up to that point. I like being an overppwered badass since my gaming time is limited.

They just announced it is all in Midgar.

FFVIIR is definitely going to be very linear, but this combat looks really fun.
Laughable that it's episodic. They're really tooting their own horns on how big it is. Uhh Witcher 3 and RDR2 were enormous and and had one release and I guarantee their file sizes will be bigger than FFVII remastered.

OMG that FFVIIR gameplay and new trailer! Won't lie that trailer brought a tear to my eye. I beat FFVII at it's release and still one of the best game experiences I've ever enjoyed (yes I'm that old). It sucks it's episodic but I'll patiently wait. So so excited! Looks like the team is doing it right.

Where did they announce this? I missed the first three minutes of the E3 presentation, but all the news outlets are reporting that the game is going to come on two blu-ray discs with only the first disc being entirely in Midgar since they want to expand that part of the game.

It was like the first thing he said. Two discs will most likely mean: an install disc and a play disc, like RDR2.
