Just called sony!

Here are the steps!

1. Turn off the system using the switch, then turn it back on (red light will be on)

2. Hold the power button

3. It will turn on and KEEP holding it until it beeps three times and turns off

4. Hold the power button again, it will beep once and then a quick double beep, let go of the power button

5. A restore menu with several options should pop up

6. She told me to select option number 3, it said my file was corrupted.... goddamn it.

7. select that and it'll begin to restore

8. Waiting for it to load... will update soon!

 
Lol you have to restore? Is that the option that defaults/wipes your hard drive? If thats a risk, I'll just wait on a damn update. Took me way too long to redownload everything on my new PS3 with the crappy store revision.

Thanks for the info, I'll try that too. I'm just hoping I don't lose everything on my hard drive... that would mean losing all of my gameshare accounts and having to re-download about 600-700 GB worth of games, meep.

It just wipes settings that you likely never use/notice.

I'v seen a few people on another site saying that it just fails, and only gives the option of a complete reformat. I think Sony dun goofed

UPDATE: Yeah, option three didn't work. Rebooted and again no XMB.... then tried option 4 and it said I need 4.45.... seriously... fucking sony. Sigh, not on their site yet to download. I'll have to wait to try it. I am not gonna fucking wipe my drive. Option 4 as mentioned just undoes shit you don't care about in the first place.

 
I had been asking for D&D for years now, so it's nice to see it finally released. I think it's priced too high, though, so I'll wait for a Steam or PSN sale.

I did some googling and it seems the answer is no (so I ended up buying the game, even though I can't play it now.. thanks Sony for the firmware update >_>).

Final Fight: Double Impact has very restrictive DRM in that you can only play on one console instead of the usual two (or more than two, if you pull a few tricks). Specifically, if you play on one console and then try on another within the next 24 hours, you'll get an error message. So it's a "one console per 24 hours" sort of DRM. And you're also required to be online to play, if I remember correctly. It might not matter to half of the PSN users, but for many, it's a nuisance.

That's probably the main reason why I prefer achievements over trophies. The same thing can be said for the Xbox's message system.

well I'm glad I haven't downloaded the update yet. Hopefully Sony gets this sorted soon (unlikely), and pushes out an update that actually works. No way I'm risking it until I've got confirmation it won't brick my system :cold:

 
It seems like people with 1TB drives are being affected only. Not sure if that is true.

Edit:

Download link for 4.45 for those with bricked consoles. Try putting it on a usb stick and re-installing the firmware via safe mode.

Ah, that makes sense. I just wish that some of these companies would realize that cracking down on that 1% isn't worth the inconvenience to a much larger part of the people who might buy the game.

That would be a little weird since those would all be people who have done after market replacements then, right?

 
I didn't notice the comments about the update bricking systems until after I started downloading. Fortunately, things appear to be ok for my 500GB WD Black.

 
For what it's worth, I've seen others post about getting the problem with hard drives less than 1 TB, too.  And I've seen people claim to have tried using a USB stick who still encountered the problem.

I'm going to wait a few hours and see what happens.  Maybe Sony will release a solution that doesn't involve reformatting... I hope.

 
I couldn't remember if automatic update includes firmware updates, and since you can't seem to check without being connected to the Internet, I just went ahead and unplugged my PS3.

The Move Pack is not on sale. It's still $9.99 like it has always been. What you're seeing is the costume pack from that LBP2 DLC that is made available for Karting, so it's not what you thought it was. Karting has Move support built in and hasn't gotten any Level Kit DLC yet, from what I can recall, so it's just poorly written in its description since you can see that they just sloppily copy-and-pasted it from the original DLC that isn't completely correct. I hope that clears it up.

I'll repeat this for the lazy: THIS IS NOT THE LBP2 MOVE DLC PACK. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU JUST WANT THE COSTUMES FOR LBP KARTING AND NOT WHAT COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL LBP2 DLC.

I'm heading back into the OP to finish the update, which should be done soon. I think with all of the fuss over custom spoiler issues in the CAG 3.0 thread inadvertently lead to a bunch of stuff getting deleted from the OP, so I had to fix that stuff in the process of updating it.

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 has the same DRM. Ironically, I bought it approximately 2 or 3 days before the big PSN outage, so I was literally locked out of the game for about a month.

PS+ Auto Update DEFINITELY downloads firmware updates. I've deactivated my Auto Update and disconnected my internet from my PS3. I don't play online much so it won't be a big deal for me to wait til everything is fixed.

Very, very interested in a PS Vita for Black Friday 2013, but I want to capitalize on these deals when I can. So is there anything I need to worry about if I buy from the website and wait a year or more to "activate a game" (in case I miss any BF deals)?

Q: How many times am I allowed to redownload content that I've purchased?
A: Any games you've purchased can be downloaded as much as you want on up to two systems at once for anything beyond 11/18/11, so you can delete games whenever you need room and redownload them when you need them again easily. Everything you purchased before 11/18/11 still adheres to the original five system limit. Videos are a bit different in that your ownership of them expires once you download an item from the video store and delete it, though you're free to back-up that video to your PSP and then to your PC via Media Go.

Well if you aren't able to deactivate a system for a reason like that Sony customer service can deactivate it for you. I know there's also an option in the store I just found earlier tonight to deactivate all PS3 systems but not sure if that works with Vita as well.

Judging from the forums, it looks like its mostly hitting people who upgraded HDD's. (Especially those with 1TB). But its also hitting other people randomly, seeing lots of 320-500GB posts as well.

 
When people say "bricked" system does this mean it is broken for good? I want to update but not if it permanently may break my ps3. Or would it just be down till Sony fixes it?

Just tried this, did NOTwork for me. And yes, I have a 1 TB.... goddamnit.

Is upgrading the HDD a bad thing? I did it myself a while back after watching a youtube video...think it was G4 or something.

My screen is just black... like the FIRST time.

No questions about our beloved game systems are stupid.

1) Turn off the PS3 by pushing the power button.

2) Push and hold the power button. The PS3 will beep once and will turn itself on, continue to hold the power button until you hear a 2nd beep and the PS3 turns itself off.

3) Now hold the power button and it will beep once and turn on. Continue to hold the power button and let go of it when you hear 3 successive beeps. The PS3 will not turn off, but will go into Safe Mode instead. Good luck!

Mannnnn, I just looked at some footage for Flow and it looks boring as hell. Damn, I was trying to complete my thatgamecompany collection, too...but idk.

No, upgrading the HDD is a feature of the system but it seems this update might just have some weird idiosyncrasy with those systems.

Yes but re-enabling it is so easy to do that it's worth it just to not take the chance. I won't be playing online at all tonight (I actually won't be playing anything all night) so there's really no harm in it for me.

 
My friend has a 1TB and upgraded fine, still not really too keen on risking all my data. (Especially since I havent backed up my saves in a few days)

Yes I did, actually after 20 minutes or so, the update from the memory stick did get installed, BUT the screen still freezes at the wave... So, the workaround doesn't work :whistle2:( I have 1TB by the way...

Hmm, can't say I often find myself going to Settings > System Settings then accidentally changing things all that often. ;)

PS+ Auto Update DEFINITELY downloads firmware updates. I've deactivated my Auto Update and disconnected my internet from my PS3. I don't play online much so it won't be a big deal for me to wait til everything is fixed.

It doesn't install the update, so just ignore it for now.

 
Just hang up with the Sony rep, FYI, safe mode option 3 doesn't work...  at least for me, it asked me to format the HDD, I hit NO...  I don't know what else to do, 4.45 sucked big time and all that for some trophy disabling.
