Thanks for the update, now to decide if I should pre-order Castle of Illusion or not. Did you pick it up Frisky?
Almost missed this, but yes, I pre-ordered it, so it'll be on the stream Tuesday night. I'll have a video of the Genesis version/pre-order bonus a bit later tonight.

I hope WayForward, the company that made Ducktales Remastered, gets shut down for what they did to Ducktales. Sure the game looks great, but when the NES version has better controls, I think you have a serious development problem.

WayForward never should have even made it to Ducktales.

A just and loving God would have struck them down after the abomination that was Double Dragon Neon.

Well they probably just shouldn't be allowed to do updates of old games. Their original stuff has been pretty good for the most part and even being allowed to make an original game in an existing series went pretty well with Contra 4.

I'm sure Ducktales will end up being a top seller for August. And the corporate folks who make decisions will think it's because WayForward did a great job. They won't understand most people would have bought it for nostalgic satisfaction.

Thanks for letting me know. I loved Origins, and out of all the platforms, preferred it on the Vita so I was going to pick up Legends there too.
damn i was thinkin of gettin legends on vita too.....i realy hope those levels will be patched in soon after

While at the same time using their metacritic score to not pay them more money I'm sure.

Ah yes, isn't that how it always works. "Well WayForward, your game was the number 1 seller for the month of August buuuuut...we would have really liked to see a Metacritic of 80 before we handed out these bonus checks."

Also, I know I just complained about the controls, but then I went and got that No Splats trophy on my second try. The NES version was one of my favorite games as a kid, and I played the crap out of it. I just hate how my pogo doesn't seem to work if you're slightly over a ledge. If you're standing on the very edge of a platform, you can't pogo.

Played a good bit of the Genesis version of Castle of Illusion that comes with the pre-order for the new remake, which is quite good. It holds up pretty well despite not playing it back in the day. If you're wondering about this, it uses the same format as Sega's other Genesis games, so there are a lot of options to let you tweak it to let you play it how you want.

Ok, I'm not going to lie, once I started getting into this Ducktales game, and got past the crappy pogo, it's actually pretty fun. I don't think I'll have the patience fro Hard or Extreme though.

Hard isn't that much worse so far (halfway through now), by the time you've played through the entire campaign once you are far more adept at moving and dodging with the pogo. Where previously you received cakes on lower difficulties, you receive instead 1-ups, so that helps quite a bit, as often I was on full health half the time I received cakes on medium. I'm not sure I'll be able to stomach extreme as that forces you to use old pogo and beat it with no breaks.

Here's The Drop for this week:

PlayStation 3

Diablo 3 - The third chapter in developer Blizzard’s premier dungeon-crawler franchise. Bringing the world of Diablo back to PlayStation gamers, this edition of Diablo III features special four-player co-op features.

Diablo III picks up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both Heaven and Hell, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen.

PlayStation Network

Rayman Legends - (PS3/PS Vita/Blu-ray) – Rayman, Globox and the Teensies are back to embark on a new fantasy adventure through a series of legendary worlds with new environments, characters and enemies. Rayman Legends features a variety of uniquely-themed levels including several musical maps intricately set to creative soundtracks and a spooky medieval theme.

Players can also connect online with friends through a variety of challenges to test their skill and speed, and see where they rank on the worldwide leaderboards. Rayman Legends retains the fantasy appeal of its predecessor while adding a multitude of clever and entertaining gaming modes, new characters, new environments and a new soundtrack. The award-winning team of artists, designers and composers behind the UbiArt framework has also returned with an advanced engine to include multi-dimensional gameplay elements, an improved lighting system and updated game rendering that elevate Rayman Legends to the next level.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - A man, clinging to life. His two sons, desperate to cure their ailing father, are left with but one option. They must set out upon a journey to find and bring back the “Water of Life” as they come to rely on one another to survive. One must be strong where the other is weak, brave where the other is fearful, they must be… Brothers.

Chaos Code — Grasp the Chaos! High-speed new-style 2D fighting game Chaos Code leaps from arcades to PlayStation 3! Otaku fighter Hikaru, mysterious gothic girl Celia, Italian Chinese Chef Bravo, and many more unique characters are waiting for you to join the battle! Create your own style with the Skill Select System and reveal the truth behind Chaos Code before your rivals!

Hunter’s Trophy 2: America – Experience all the excitement of the hunt in America! From brown bear to elk, track 25 different preys in this hunting simulation set in the most beautiful countryside of the USA.

Kickbeat (PS3/PS Vita Cross Buy) – KickBeat offers players several innovative ways to interact with music. The game combines beat-matching mechanics with an acrobatic style of martial arts, turning every song into a raucous battle. The game also features a music analyzer that allows players to create new tracks from their own music libraries.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 – Sail again with the Straw Hat Crew in One Piece Pirate Warriors 2! After two years of training and gaining new skills, the Straw Hat Crew is back and better than ever as Luffy continues his quest to become the Pirate King! Luffy and his crew will appear with their New World outfits and all new attacks to take down hordes of Pirates and Marines that will flood the screen. Immerse yourself by playing the “New World” with your favorite characters and their latest techniques and costumes.

i hear brothers is really really good. im going to have to get it at some point. not this week though, because me and diablo are going to town.

Just finished the Rayman Legends demo and even loving Origins that was a lot better and more interesting than I expected. The controls didn't feel as sharp but I don't know if that's the game itself or just difference between the Vita and PS3.

Yeah, I pre-ordered it so I'm going with you.

I liked Ducktales for the most part.  The controls were fine for me except that stupid "Pogo not activating" glitch.  I found hard mode to be rather easy, once you know the game it's really not that hard.  Play the levels in the right order to get extra heart containers right away as well.  I don't imagine Extreme would be that hard, but there are a couple tough/cheap jumps that are really going to piss you the fuck off if you miss them.  [customspoiler="Ducktales Spoilers"]The jumping segment after the final boss would really piss you off if you fuck ed up there as well.[/customspoiler]

I don't think WayForward is as bad as everyone else makes them out to be.  Bloodrayne Betrayal was rather enjoyable except for 2 insanely stupid platforming segments.  I haven't played them, but both Shantae and A Boy and his Blob got pretty decent reviews as well I thought.  I know many people on CAG who really enjoyed the Double Dragon remake.

I thought DD neon was very good for what it is. And ducktales was fun too. I only wish both came with the originals like castle of illusion.

WayForward never should have even made it to Ducktales.

DDN wasn't nearly as good as it should have been. But in terms of them getting their hands on other IP, Contra 4 was fucking awesome.

A Boy and His Blob was gorgeous and I wanted to love it, but my goodness was it hard! I got about half way through and was dying over and over and simply not knowing what I was supposed to do. Not sure where this is going, but figured I'd chime in. I think WayForward has a lot of potential as a developer, but so far what I've played of them hasn't quite fully tapped into it.

I thought Boy and His Blob was one of those hidden Wii gems, and I played it to the end (but skipped most of the challenge levels, those were ridiculous).

WayForward is good, perhaps not great. I can certainly think of a ton of worse devs though.

When is the Mickey game available for preorder?
It's been available to pre-order for nearly two weeks now and will end on Tuesday when the game is released, which is supposed to be the last time the Genesis game will ever be available on PSN.

I did a quick search on the PS Blog, but couldn't find my answer. Has MGS Peace Walker HD ever been on sale?
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/152080-whats-in-the-ps-store-82713-spelunky-final-fantasy-xiv-hatsune-miku-floating-cloud-god-vita-hd-adv-of-rotating-octopus-character-and-more/?view=findpost&p=10505524

That's it.

Yes, Blizzard has talked about it and how they're working on it but haven't officially announced it. It's not coming until probably spring 2014 at the earliest since they weren't working on it until the current gen versions were basically done. I'm kind of wondering if that means that we might not see it until when Reaper of Souls launches and the PS4 version might be both bundled together. That's probably hoping for a little too much but asking people to buy the game again on PS4 six months after the fact is pretty silly.

Edit- Missed that it was officially announced.

You know, the more I think about it the less reason I can think of that I would actually want Diablo 3 on PS4.  It's not the kind of game that should need more powerful hardware to be identical to the PC version.  It's also so multiplayer focused that unless you're only playing couch co-op you're going to find a lot more people to play with on PS3 than PS4.

i plan on mostly playing it couch coop. and i know once i make 'the switch', i just won't boot up my ps3 as much. i mean, i can tell myself i will... but i know as soon as that ps4 is sitting there i'll end up with a backlog on it, too.

but you're probably right. i'll pick up d3 for the ps3 if there's a good black friday sale i guess. but i'm in no real rush for it.

A new One Piece game is making me hope for a really good sale on the old one, although I'm not holding my breath. (Not going to spend over $15 for a Dynasty Warriors clone even if I like the source material).

I'd be a lot more excited for World of Illusion than I would be with Castle of Illusion. I guess it was just a little bit before my time.

And Double Dragon Neon is a worthwhile pickup for any fans of Venture Bros since the main villain is basically the Monarch.
