you do realize you can use a gamepad with the PC version as well right? *wonders how anyone plays platformers with a keyboard*
I probably did realize that since the keyboard controls were functional but awkward. It might have come out during the period where I was between the wireless receiver dying and picking up a wired 360 controller.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2013/08/30/capcom-bringing-pc-hit-dustforce-to-ps3-vita-and-xbox-360

Dustforce on PS3 and Vita will have Cross Play functionality, though they'll be talking about that and release info sometime soon.

Well you can't entirely rebuild a game in six months; I'm sure almost all of that time just went into getting it ported and tested. So yes, from a technical standpoint WiiU was the lead platform because that's what it was originally designed for but he was talking about marketing. Once you're not constrained to a floundering platform of course you shift your focus to platforms that have over 20 times the install base and you want reviews out focusing on those systems.
The lead platform is the main development platform that is then ported to the other platforms, not really which version most of the review copies are sent out for. I really doubt that they started work on porting the game six months ago, as that would paint Ubisoft in an even more negative light to be making such quick and late development decisions like that.

People are starting to speculate that the Vita version is missing some section of levels and Ubisoft has been completely silent about this right up to the launch, which is a complete shame after the great port of Origins. The lack of clarity on anything with the Vita version seems to have been for a reason. I'll just be getting the Wii U version if this is true.

There's apparently an indie PlayStation panel happening at PAX with some actual news coming from it.

  • Cosmic Star Heroine (Zeboyd Games) is coming to PS4 and Vita. Cue tylerh
  • Divekick is a launch title for PS4.
  • Double Fine is making some DLC for The Playroom, which is that weird PS Camera tech demo game that comes with every PS4.
  • Dustforce is coming to PS3 and Vita with Capcom publishing it.
  • Octodad has Move support.
  • Road Not Taken is coming to PS4 and Vita.
  • VVVVVV is coming to Vita.
  • WarFrame is a launch title for PS4.
Edit: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/31/cosmic-star-heroine-coming-to-playstation-platforms-first

The trailer for Cosmic Star Heroine looks really good, especially compared to their previous games.

Edit 2: More Cosmic Star Heroine news:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/08/30/retro-sci-fi-rpg-cosmic-star-heroine-revealed-at-pax/

It'll be Cross Buy and the devs are going to be doing a Kickstarter soon that will require just $10 for the cheapest tier to get the game itself.
Thanks for all the updates Frisky. I haven't actually played any Zeboyd games, but I've heard good things. But I don't game on PC and not really interested in Xbox Live Indie Games, but really looking forward to this new one. I still hope BoD and Chutulu get ported to Vita, I'm sure sales of this game will help influence their decision on those.

Dustforce looks pretty cool, I've never heard of it. Road Not Taken looks trippy. VVVVVV is extremely awesome can't wait for it to hit Vita.

At this point, the only game I'd still like to see come to Vita that hasn't been announced is Cave Story.

It's a pretty widely acclaimed PC platformer that falls into the ball-breaking level of difficulty. It's really good though (all that I've played so far at least), and I'm all but certain anyone that enjoyed Super Meat Boy would really dig it. I'm glad it's being ported even this late in the game, if only because it reminded me that I need to play more of it ;)

I've played both VVVVVV and dustforce with a keyboard just fine, dustforce takes a while to get used to since you have the jump(Z), attack(X), heavy attack[C] keys all right next to each other and you tend to click the wrong key all time when you are first starting out. Super Meat Boy is another game I preferred to play with a keyboard, the gamepad analog stick was a bit too finicky for my tastes and made me miss a lot of jumps, I played a little better with the keyboard controls so I used those instead.

EDIT: weird, when you put the letter C in parenthesis it makes a little (C) logo thing

I haven't been following their latest game but they've been slowly making their way through the eras of RPG and Penny Arcade 4 was a mid-gen SNES styled game. Now they're late gen with Sega CD style for Cosmic Star Heroine so I'm really curious to see if they go early PS1 style with their next game.

I could never get used to KB controls for platformers. It comes down to lack of pressure sensitive keys, since I can't make small refinements and usually wind up running off the screen a lot. I guess maybe I could make them work if I put a lot of time into it, but I've always found a gamepad to be my much preferred way to play platformers.

I just noted you since you were recently asking why they weren't making anything for Vita, so now you know.........

Nicalis is bringing over a bunch of other people's games, so I'd imagine that Cave Story slips in at some point. 3DS has a few versions of that game, so Vita at least deserves one of its own.

That really blows. Now I don't know which version to get...

http://youtu.be/aNz8HldDnkE?t=14m46s

The Vita version has a total of 615 teensies to rescue while the other has 700. This actually has me a bit worried now...

Not sure why this is surprising. From what I understand, Legends has more original levels than Origins, plus remastered versions of about 40 Origins levels. There are something like 65 levels in Origins. So you have enough content for almost two full games, and you're worried that the Vita version might have had some levels cut? Portable ports almost exclusively have content removed or altered, and if they don't, they typically look and play like shit.

Rayman Origins was best on Vita - at least for single player. It had complete feature parity with the console games, added a few extra touch options and camera zoom, rock-solid framerate and ran at native resolution. After that kind of love and the promise of exclusive Vita content (and the promise of parity with the Wii U on Murfy levels) people were expecting them to do us right with Legends as well.

Also it sounds like what's missing are the "invaded" stages, which are time-trials and one of the most challenging./satisfying parts of the game. I'm feeling really torn about this now.

I played and plat'd both versions of Origins. They felt the same to me. Which is saying it was a great port. Only benefit of the Vita version was that you could tap Lum bubbles instead of jumping into them. That being said, Origins wasn't a very big game, and most of the replay value came from doing the same stages over and over again. I said that ports are ALMOST exclusively worse. Origins is by far the exception, and not the rule. Sounds like if you want all those features, you get the console version and wait until the Vita version goes on sale some day. These are Ubisoft games, expect them to be $20 by the holidays.

Yeah, so, I'm just catching up on all the Legends revelations. Guess this makes my decision a lot easier. I briefly considered switching to vita after the murfy segment complaints, but not now. Oh well, I want co-op anyway.

That being said, Origins wasn't a very big game
You didn't think Origins was a big game? I think it's the meatiest platformer I've played in years.

It probably shouldn't be surprising whether it was a limit of cartridge size or time or whatever because that happens with portable versions. At the same time you can't set the bar that high with a equal quality, if arguably superior, Vita version and then come up short on the next game and not expect a backlash.

Especially when they implied it would be on par with every other version and have been completely silent about the difference in content, so they were hoping to get it out and sell it to people before they knew about it.

They could've been honest about it and still sold copies to those that didn't mind the omission, but now it's purely negative.

My preference for a portable format means I'll still get the Vita version ... but this is still disappointing. Origins was perfect on Vita, I expected Legends to be the same.

It would be inelegant, but they could offers the extra stuff as free DLC to make up for the lack of space on the cartridge.

September is going to be awesome for me when it comes to PS+.  All of the games work out for me.

For my excessive happiness...
Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection.  I have both games on Wii, so I had very little incentive to get the PS3 versions.

ICO. I haven't finished Shadow of the Colossus on PS2 yet. I also have a gut feeling the PS2 save files are not compatible with the PS3 HD Collection.

GTA: Liberty City Stories. I have the PS2 version in backlog, so now I will have a portable version.

Rayman Origins. I don't own this on consoles, heard good things about it. Nice to have a portable version.

Galaga Legions DX.  I already have Galaga Legions on 360 Namco Museum Virtual Arcade and on the 3DS.  So the DX version is nice to have on PS3.

Might get the console version of Rayman Origins if I enjoy it enough. Now just give me Catherine, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on Vita, and Unit 13 as part of the November/December freebies and I'll be even happier.

All of the PS3 HD collections are just normal PS3 games, so there's no way to use saves from the PS2 emulator with them. They just use the normal PS3-style of save system.

Yep, I would have bought it on Vita but now I'm getting it on PS3 if at all. Vita also appears to be the only platform not getting an unique character costume (WiiU/PS3 are different Assassin's Creed costumes and 360 is Splinter Cell).

I'm getting awful tempted to grab Diablo 3 though. I loved Champions of Norrath and the Dark Alliance games and while I steered clear of D3 on PC the changes are making it sound awful close to those classics.

man, im SO EXCITED for diablo 3. its been getting super good reviews, and the changes for the console version sound ace. This review in particular made me go from excited to super damn excited.

I'm going to foolishly hold out hope that this is just a cart limitation and that the invasion levels (or whatever) will be available to download later. I'm such an optimist!

Nice. I kind of hope it's not set up like the first one. I liked the main story fine, but I just finished the first side story and it really just felt like a waste of time.
I liked the gameplay and nostalgia of the first, but hated the setup. The whole breaking it down into chapters thing really turned me off. And then the Minecraft chapter just felt really out of place.

Looking at the file size of Rayman Legends on PS3 in the UK, where it's already out, size wouldn't be an issue for the cut Vita content since the PS3 version is 2.1 GB. At this point, I'd imagine that Ubisoft allowed the content to be cut by the team working on it to get it out on time, but didn't see the need to let customers know about it ahead of launch.

So it seems like most of the games for September are re-releases, and remakes. Very little in the "new" categlory.

But since, I just got a VITA I guess I'm happy with Rayman addition.

$19 for ICO seems pretty steep. I'll d/l and get around to playing it later, I never bought into all the hype when it first came out.

Heads up! Don't buy Rayman Legends on Vita!

It is missing all of the "Invasion levels" that was supposed to be released for each gaming platform.

For anyone thinking that Vita users do not deserve the levels because Vita games are $39.99 keep in mind that the PC version is also $39.99 and includes the levels.

"Oh man I just noticed that it is missing. There are Murfy challenges specific to the Vita/WiiU that are NOT on the PS3 version. But dang the invasion levels missing is a big thing. I'm reading through the review packets they gave us and it is pretty vague whether or not it is included. The Vita version is being delayed in Europe, I wonder if a patch is coming? I'll keep looking into this."

The European Vita version is delayed from Aug 29th to Sept 12th. Tell Ubisoft you want the Invasion levels patched in!

Update: there is now a neogaf thread about this but the official ubisoft forum still makes no mention of the missing levels.

Breakquest is pretty fun.  I like the art style and the soundtrack, but man, they should have paid a translator or something.  The manual is terribly written.

I just read about the daily challenge thing in the PC version of Spelunky and wow, it's really too bad that didn't make it into the PSN version.

i hope to hell Ubisoft does some sort of media blitz on Monday about how Vita will be getting all the missing levels as free DLC at launch or something, because the last thing the vita needs right now is the game tanking.    At least based on internet rage, it quickly went from 'best platform' for this game to public boycott cries.

i'll be playing it on vita either way, because origins was amazing on vita and i have no real desire to play platformers on a tv (does my eyes in).

Edit: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/31/cosmic-star-heroine-coming-to-playstation-platforms-first

The trailer for Cosmic Star Heroine looks really good, especially compared to their previous games.

Edit 2: More Cosmic Star Heroine news:

It'll be Cross Buy and the devs are going to be doing a Kickstarter soon that will require just $10 for the cheapest tier to get the game itself.
Thanks for the heads up about Cosmic Star Heroine.

The $10 to get the game sounds great esp since they mention it's crossbuy. I went to their site and read through some of the influences and from the ps blog link you posted reading through the comments I see that it is turn-based and "As far as battle systems go, there’s no separate battle screen – you’ll be exploring a dungeon and if an enemy group catches you, you’ll fight right there. 3rd person view."

I'll have to keep an eye out for it

Thanks for letting me know. I loved Origins, and out of all the platforms, preferred it on the Vita so I was going to pick up Legends there too.
