VCS is the better of the two. I have it on my Vita. It's fun, but the lack of right analog control sucks.
why would there be no right analog control? can't even change it? that's terrible.

EDIT: Nevermind. Eh if it's just a PSP game I guess I'll pass. Wasn't it on ps2 as well? Would rather have that version ported over prob, but I dunno. I love the way Vita games look on the nice screen, I don't want to go back to PSP stuff now lol.

It's because they're PSP games, not Vita games. They required holding down a shoulder button and using the left stick for camera control.
It's a 2D, top-down game, so I don't think there's anything for the right stick to control.
I was thinking there might be some sort of convoluted camera controls to see some distance around your character, even though it's top-down. If it's designed as always centered on your character, no problem then.

GTA: Chinatown Wars is not only one of the best handheld games ever developed, it's one of the best GTA games ever made. I love the GTA series; I've played each one to completion except for the London 60's expansions and the GTA IV add-on episodes, and I think that Chinatown Wars outshines virtually every other game in the series except San Andreas.

Even if the controls on Vita are 1:1 to the PSP layout, the game controls very well and is an absolute blast. I highly, highly recommend it.
Thanks for the confidence. Think I'll pull the trigger.

Man, the mods really love this thread haha. Don't know what went down but good luck with the award stuff all the same Frisky.

On a related note, it seems like this mass deletion trend is getting more popular lately. Or is it just me?

I wish they would just infract/ban people instead

or just leave it alone, wasnt that serious.

If a mod steps in on their own, they usually post to warn people about going off-topic or whatever, so I'm thinking that somebody got offended or whatever and reported it.

Yeah it seems like each time I noticed it or read the posts before deletion they weren't getting overly serious. The mod or whomever should at least warn people or explain themselves like Frisky said they usually do.

Oh well, c'est la vie. Back to playing around with soul sacrifice demo again and figure out what the hell I'm doing in it haha. Yay weekend as well, long work week.
Not really the best way to pick games.

Going on that logic you think Persona Golden is one of the worst games on the Vita because you need to put in about 3 or 4 hours before the game actually starts.
It's not a good way to pick games based on what holds my attention? I feel like that's exactly how I should pick games.

Also, not sure which P4G you're playing, but the game starts pretty quickly. I think you're talking about maybe 3 or 4 hours until you get to the first dungeon? I played through P4G three times. It immediately grabbed me from the start, so I stuck with it.

Yeah, I missed most of it, I luckily saw Frisky's first comment, someone's retort, and then Frisky's defense of his stance. I don't know how much further it got than that, but it actually would have been really nice to read. It was a very interesting subject. Oh well.

I agree, I don't care for games that take 3-5 hours to "really start". Heck, I could finish a handful of awesome indie games in that time, so why bother wasting so much time to find out if I actually like a game? I realize I'm just butting in here, but thought I'd share my stance/

I think those games are for a very particular sect of people, and captaintek and I aren't it. If you like them, good for you:)

Just finished trying out Malicious. What a complete and utter waste of time. Plays like a bootleg Shadow of The Colossus. I sat there and pounded at this gargantuan, cyborg-boxing creature for at least 20 minutes and took only a tenth of its health. NOT fun. Unless, that is, I'm missing something. Guess I need to watch @frisky's video again. Gah. Hope another one doesn't have to join the 0% club.

Thanks for the golf game advice! I decided to get Hot Shots Golf 2 at some point, bought Pangya this morning (shame on me that I didn't realize they were selling for $4 new *UNTIL* after I bought at like new for $5), and got the Out of Bounds bundle.

I also bought Demon's Souls this morning since I wanted to use my free month at a later time (DW7 Empires sale, etc.) and really didn't want to play the game now.

CAG is awesome! :)
The first chapter teaches you the controls, basically adding one thing per level (ie, crafting, arm, etc). If it just dumped it on the player, people would complain it was too complicated.

I thought the first chapter did an excellent job of ramping up the game.

And it's not like it takes 3 or 4 hours... you can beat the first missions in like 90 seconds each, maybe 5 minutes for the 2 harder ones. Then you're in open territory.

Great game, and it's not even a genre I like. Not sure what you were playing.
Demons Souls dumps everything right on the player all at once an there are people here saying that's the greatest game of all time. That game has far more in terms of mechanics to learn than Soul Sacrafice.

I never said anything about it taking 3 or 4 hours to get going, that was someone else. I said it didn't grab my attention immediately, and it didn't. My attention span might be lower than others, so sorry if that's a problem.

Again, I don't know why people can't just not like a game without there being a huge issue about it. I just didn't like it, I expressed that, no need to tell me how wrong I am because I didn't like something, or that I was playing a different game because I had a different opinion on it than you.

Ouch, not good to hear. Anyone else have any thoughts on it before I just delete the thing off my system?

So far, Dragon Fantasy is satisfying my itch (portable old school RPG). The game has a good sense of humor and successfully captures the atmosphere of 8 bit RPGs.

Please ignore what he said about Malicious and just try for yourself or watch a video of it. If it took him 20 minutes to take away about a tenth of health then he wasnt playing right.

I can tell you for ALMOST a fact the game can be beat in an hour, so they're without a doubt playing it wrong. Like I believe I killed the knight boss with the dashing power in 3 minutes without breaking a sweat. Thats sort of the game in a nutshell too. Certain powers (like Rockman) can do absurd damage against a boss, where as other powers are a waste of time. So once you know HOW to fight a boss, they really aren't much of a problem.

With this being said, it's not the best game ever, but has some of the cutest trophies I've ever seen. You can get like 70% in a few hours, so you might as well give it a go.

I really like Dragon Fantasy. My only complaint about it would be that the controls are a little clunky. Granted thats how NES controls were, so I know what they're going for. But I'm really hoping the sequel adds the ability to move in 8 directions instead of 4. That being said, I still love the game, and it's a very minor complaint. More of an inconvenience, if anything.

I took a few days off from CAG and returned to find that I'd missed out on some drama. I actually don't mind the mods doing a mass deletion in a case like this as it saves me from reading through a bunch of back and forth that I wasn't around for when trying to catch up on the thread.

I'm thinking I might pick up Episodes from Liberty City as I never played through either of them back when I went through GTA IV. Thanks for posting about how the game is laid out a few pages back FriskyTanuki, I was also curious about that. A pair of shorter length GTA games is appealing.
The Sly Collection has been rated by ESRB for Vita.

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=32864&Title=Sly Collection
Ok, while I would love for vita to get another platformer (even if it is a port...of a port), I'm a little hesitant about this one because of how Thieves in Time turned out. Don't get me wrong, it's a completely serviceable game and it lends itself well to the portable format, but there is a noticeable degradation in the graphics and framerate. Quite jarring, actually, as Sly 4 is gorgeous on PS3. Same goes for the collection -- truly something to behold in all its HD glory, and can even be played in 3D. I just hope whatever studio is in charge of the vita port this go around employs some different methods.

*sigh*, my man, if you don't like what I have to say, just ignore me. All the silly antagonism isn't necessary. I already admitted I wasn't playing it right.
Only wish they would go on sale on PS3 (Sly is still holding strong at $20, $30 digital).
Gohastings has it used for $10 from time to time. That's where a lot of CAGs got it.

Will do. Going to watch the video again (except this time while I'm playing). I really do enjoy its aesthetic, so I want to enjoy what I can of it.
Anyone else excited for the Resident Evil sale? :)
going on previous sales, probably will continue to pass on them all. Capcom needs to be a little more lenient to get my money, but I've got my fingers crossed;)
Anyone else excited for the Resident Evil sale? :)
I am hopeful. I think I'm gonna pass on the GTA sale week with the hope of RE1, 2 and 3 all being half off. Doubtful, but I'd love to have those 3 for my Vita at $10. I played a bit of RE1 when it first came out, but haven't played anything in the series since, which doesn't sound like a bad thing since most people don't like most of the series beyond RE 4.

Resident Evil 2 is classic, but people have different tolerances for the quirks of PS1 games.

A) Where is the antagonism? He asked people to nicely ignore your post (one you even admit here is invalid lol) and then told them to judge for themselves. Regardless of how you look at it, it was a nice, respectful and well rounded post.
B) You didn't admit you were playing it wrong, you suggested you might be playing it wrong.
C) Most of the trophies are pretty easy, even if you're completely awful at it, you can get a few of them quickly.

The AC3 season pass needs to go on sale soon. Ever since Xbox got it for 1600 MSP on the 1st I've been hoping for a drop on PSN....hopefully sometime in May or June.

Went ahead and picked up GTAIII, SA & IV Complete. Gonna pass on the stories games, I never completed them but I don't really remember being sucked in to everything like with III>IV

Hopefully CV HD is on sale next week, wouldn't mind finally finishing it.
Anyone else excited for the Resident Evil sale? :)
I'd like to be, I really would. I'm not getting my hopes up too high though I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. ;)

Finished Guacamelee but still need to go back and search for treasure chests. Cannot find the last section in the forest for the life of me, it's stuck at 94% complete but the map looks fully explored.

For anyone complaining about the length of Guacamelee, I want to remind everyone that Super Metroid can be beaten in ~3 hours if you know what you're doing and 8 if you take your time, but no one talks shit on it for its length. The optional stuff in Guacamelee is really challenging and adds to the experience substantially, and it shows how thoughtful the developers were in making the maps & abilities interact well. Finishing things up to 100% it, I'd have gladly paid $15 for it.

Re: the collection ports, I barely have time for console gaming which is why my Vita has gotten so much use. Stoked to see Sly & Jack collections, because I've always wanted to play those games but just don't have time to sit down for hours at a time. Same with games like P4.

I also just finished Gucamelee, got the platinum in just a few minutes over 10 hours. I think a lot of people were giving admiralvic some crap because he said it wasn't a crazy long game. I'm in no way a fast gamer, and it didn't take me very long at all. I still 100% think it's worth $15 though. Awesome, awesome game.

What happened was someone said they wanted three games (Guacamelee, Dragon Fantasy Book I and Sacred Citadel I think), but only could afford or only wanted to buy two of them at the time and asked for opinions. Since two of the games weren't out yet, I simply mentioned Guacamelee could be easily beaten in under 6 hours and didn't have a ton of replayablity. Then Frisky (I believe) mentioned that it would take a lot longer to find everything, to which a debate broke out about how it was apparently impossible to believe I did it in roughly 6 hours (even if my comment was simply about beating the game). I suppose thats what I get for trying to help someone. lol...
I never said my post was invalid, only that I may not have been playing it properly. I honestly think that's less my fault and more the game's failure to adequately explain what was going on. Just finished watching @frisky's video, and the issue seems to be that I was stuck on the projectile weapon and not using the melee. I didn't know you could switch with the d-pad (it's never mentioned). I also didn't know you could repair yourself with L1+O.

I did, however, understand the charge function and that killing the foot soldiers would build up aura, allowing for more powerful attacks. I understand the game's basic mechanics and premise, but the sense of progression was lost on me. Worth noting that @Frisky and I both had dealt the same amount of damage around the 17:00 mark, which is exactly what I said in my original post. Nearly 20 minutes and only a fraction of the boss's health was depleted. I just didn't know to keep going at it.

To the point that @jack frost is antagonistic, I don't know that there's ever a reason to tell others to dismiss someone's opinion. Completely unnecessary and silly.

Re: the collection ports, I barely have time for console gaming which is why my Vita has gotten so much use. Stoked to see Sly & Jack collections, because I've always wanted to play those games but just don't have time to sit down for hours at a time. Same with games like P4.
I'm mostly with you on that, as I've been gaming almost exclusively on my handhelds as of late. Still, there are just certain things that deserve to be experienced in a pristine state, and the recent HD collections definitely fit the bill. I'm not saying the ports won't be good, but what I saw of the Jak & Daxter trailer worried me a bit. And, again, I don't know what went "wrong" (again, wasn't bad...just not as good) with Sly 4 on vita. They're not exactly pushing the hardware, so can't understand why there would be issues. Just something to consider if you have the option to play on either platform.
Anyone else excited for the Resident Evil sale? :)
I might pick up Code Veronica. I already have it PS2 though so I may pass.
The Umbrella Chronicles games are fun and I wouldn't mind having them in HD but I have no plans to pick up a MOVE.

I already have RE 1-6 from that Anthology released last year but I may pick up Veronica X and Operation Raccoon City for the right price
IOperation Raccoon City for the right price
It's still $40 on PSN right now(oddly enough when RE6 is 30) so I don't see it dropping close to the $12.99 Gamefly has been selling it for. If the surprise me and sell it for less than 20 I might grab it as well.

I went back and tried Malicious again. This time around I read the manual and Frisky's recommendations and I was able to take out the Library boss. I think I'll go back and work on the rest too. :)

It's not exactly ground breaking, but it provides a bit of diversion.
What happened was someone said they wanted three games (Guacamelee, Dragon Fantasy Book I and Sacred Citadel I think), but only could afford or only wanted to buy two of them at the time and asked for opinions. Well, I beat I got the platinum in just over 10 hours, which means two playthroughs, collecting everything. So you're definitely not too off base. I think the first one took me about 7 hours, and the second on hard mode was about 3, since I wasn't collecting anything, just rushing through the game.

Again, I don't know why people can't just not like a game without there being a huge issue about it. I just didn't like it, I expressed that, no need to tell me how wrong I am because I didn't like something, or that I was playing a different game because I had a different opinion on it than you.
People can just not like a game. But if people post reason(s) they don't like a game, other people can (and will) respond to those reasons. I mean, c'mon, this is a forum. We aren't posting into a vacuum, we get responses. And not all responses will agree with you.

Expecting everyone who disagrees with you to not speak up simply because it's 'your opinion' simply isn't how the internet works.

You mentioned that the game didn't 'instantly' appeal to you in direct response to someone else saying game 'opens up' after the first bit, and I was pointing out that it only takes around 15 minutes to 'open up' the game. That is not a long time by any definition. It's not like FFXIII or something where it takes hours.

I hate platformers so I don't play them. And more importantly, don't post about them... but if i did, i'd expect getting blow back for posting how much i hate, say, Super Mario Brothers.

Also: "Demons Souls dumps everything right on the player all at once"

No, it doesn't. It's just very good at hiding it, and never explains anything, really. But plenty of stuff like crafting isn't necessary from the beginning. It adds layer upon layer without ever really getting into tutorial, but it doesn't dump everything on the player from the get go. Even stuff like encumbered simply isn't an issue until you gather enough inventory for it to become an issue, at which point you figure out the new gameplay element organically because your character suddenly moves like a rock.

Oh good one. You're pretty clever. Because anyone has ever said that. I can't find any reason that all your posts get deleted.

I played it when I was 12 and enjoyed it!

So just started playing spec ops this morning. Was always interested in it but just kept passing it up. And man I got to say I love this game. Even the gameplay is cool despite having weird controls. Almost done with it since it is kinda short. Glad PS+ got this. Now I want to buy it for my collection on 360 one day. :D
