I tried looking some pages back and didn't see MGS Portable Ops vs Portable Ops Plus comparison. Is the basic breakdown:

Portable Ops:
Has 1P story mode.
Has MP with possibly closed servers.

Portable Ops Plus:
Has 1P Infinite mode (random missions).
Has expanded MP with possibly closed servers.

Is this right? And which are recommended?

I liked the story in Portable Ops. If the servers for both are closed, you'd be better off just getting Portable Ops. Plus was geared more toward multiplayer
Only money is in the way, not time. Newborns dont care much about your day/night cycle. You'll be up at all hours for the first few weeks. I got in a lot of gaming with Number 1.
It can still be hard, though. My first child wanted to be held constantly, which made playing games hard. I got pretty far on Xbox Bejeweled Infinte mode though, lol.

After doing a little research, which I technically should I done, it appears that PO and PO+ servers were shut down last year. Guess I'll go PO for the story, thanks. It does make me wonder why PO+ is there, if multiplayer is gone...

I can still find time to game while watching my little one, but the deep immersive games like Skyrim are harder to do. And any game with cutscenes that can't be paused can be really frustrating (your child is guaranteed to wake up and start crying at just the wrong moment!).

I've found my Vita to be wonderful for squeezing in game time while watching my child. You can always pause any game and a lot of portable games are designed for pick-up-and-play. I just got a Vita a month ago and I LOVE it. I almost think Sony should actively market it to Dads!
BBCSE has none of that. It's likely the easiest FG to handle aside from Tekken and the cheap PSN ones like VF2/5 and Sonic Fighters. The challenges are extremely easy (well, as required for the trophies) since you need to do so few, and then you have people with BS crap like Ragna that any scrub can use and be strong with (god I hated playing Ragnas online).

Basically, if you just want simple inputs, it's fine. There's very few of those 1-2 frame links from SF, insane motions like KOF, or super situational combos like MvC. They exist, but you can enjoy yourself plenty without ever needing to learn them.
Great to know, thanks for the input. Just bumped it off near the top of my Vita backlog in that case. I can actualy do okay in MvC thanks to the one-button super combos (or whatever they're actually called).

i was thinking the vita might be absolutely perfect for the situation. as you said, easy to pause, etc, and the screen won't be lighting up the room, etc.

Are there any PS3 games out there that come with a free Playstation Plus trial period? I thought I saw 1 in one of my game collection (over 120 PS3 games), but after going through most of them (I couldn't find the others lying somewhere around the house), I couldn't find that free trial codes. Thanks.

God of War Saga I think, I believe one of the collections did anyways. I also know the Walmart edition of All-Stars did too.

I know most of the HD collections had them, and Heavy Rain Director's Cut did for at least a little bit. The GoW Saga is the only other one I can think of, but I know amazon offered codes with a ton of first party PS3 games for a while, but I can't find that page anymore.

Local multiplayer for the two people in the world that do that.

Thanks, you two!

What a douche, he/she should have been considerate of your video game needs.

my kid loved zero escape virtue's last reward. he would touch the screen to advance the text and loved listening to the voice acting. i dont think he understood the plot (lol) but alot easier to play slow games or games with not much action compared to playing blops 2 with baby trying to grab analog sticks and eat my fingers etc, lol. babies are awesome. oh yeah and vita is awesome too.

Here's The Drop for this week:
PlayStation 2 Classic

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly – Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly project started relatively soon after the first project concluded. Since we received lots of feedback that players got too scared to complete the game, we shifted our attention to making the storyline more interesting, to encourage such players to overcome the scariness in wanting to see the end of the story. The Drop is for new releases, not sales. We'll see what's on sale with the PS+ update tomorrow and the full PS Store update post on Tuesday.

Oh wow, they actually dropped quite a few. They had done 2 over the first 3 days, so I stopped paying attention.

Still, fuck 'em.

I managed to snag a Star Wars Pinball code for my fiancee really easily the other night. The trick is to have a twitter client that streams in new tweets, like Tweetbot, and just keep an eye on your timeline. I do this any time I'm trying to pick up code drops, and I generally get one within a few attempts. I'm also gonna go ahead and say that even if you don't manage to get a code you should probably go ahead and buy the pack if you enjoy pinball. All three tables are excellent, and they sport a ridiculous amount of variety between them. I've hardly touched any of my other tables since I bought these three.

this is just getting silly. A mahjong game...and its sequel.

Totally agree with this. I was a little disappointed in my VITA before my first child arrived two weeks ago. Now I pick it up all the time.
Maybe Sony should market Vita as the definitive gaming device for parents with newborn babies.
I'll do a true life testimonial for it as I'm living it right now.

Congrats to all the new dads roaming around here. My son just turned 7 months and I got a Vita about two weeks ago. It is definitely easier to get some gaming in on it than on the TV. The ability to suspend a game at anytime is a godsend.
I'll do a true life testimonial for it as I'm living it right now.
Amen. And second screen capability has me stoked for the PS4. I hope, hope, hope and hope some more that its as robustly supported as the launch event suggested it will be. But I fear it will be a total bust like remote play.

Does Fatal frame require the ps eye camera? I thought I saw someone say it required the ps2 camera when it came out (which I didn't know existed).
Does Fatal frame require the ps eye camera? I thought I saw someone say it required the ps2 camera when it came out (which I didn't know existed).
Nope. Doesn't use it. You use the Camera Obscura in game so that may be what they meant.

They do. Kevin Spacey on House of Cards plays PlayStation all the time. They mention it like every episode. Technically, his character isn't a dad, but he is a DILF.

From what I understand, remote play was dependent on developers taking advantage of it while with the PS4/Vita, it's built in the firmware so it'll always be there, requiring no extra effort from developers.

With that said, I'm not 100% sure and history has shown that it is a feature that will fall to the way side so I understand the skepticism.

The PSP Go can do this as well. (Of course, once you load your suspend state, it's gone. So really only load it, if you know you'll be able to create a "real" save soon. )
If the Vita ever gets to $150 or below I'll pick one up.
I'm just using the PSP for RPGs right now, and it works perfect.

I have three kids. None of them have the attention span or focus to game with me, and they all think the TV is theirs and theirs alone.

Papo & Yo is an adventure that follows the tale of a young boy named Quico and his best friend Monster, a huge beast with razor-sharp teeth and an addiction to poisonous frogs. The minute Monster eats a frog he goes into a violent rage that’s bad news for everyone around. And yet, Quico isn’t afraid to make a dangerous journey to find a cure for his best friend. As Quico, you’ll need to build your friendship with Monster by solving puzzles with his help as you adventure through a magical, imaginative world in which you can conjure solid objects from thin air. You’ll need to learn to use Monster’s emotions, both good and bad, to your advantage if you want to complete your quest and find a cure for your scary pal! This bundle also includes the soundtrack.

Remember, check back every Monday to learn when BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND (PS3), Germinator (PS Vita), Knytt Underground (PS3, PS Vita – Cross Buy Enabled), and Pinball Arcade (PS3) are arriving to PS Plus members. You’ll also find more discounts and other exclusives that we weren’t able to detail here just yet. Remember: the month preview is subject to change.

Sweet, I had a feeling there would be a 5th game. Germinator will be the only game I get to look forward to this month, but at least there's one now. (Not that Sleeping Dogs, Knytt, or Pinball are bad. Just that I already own all of them).

Really pleased by the free games this month. I am certainly interested in Blazblue for the Vita, that'll be a fun game to try. Also pleased about Knytt Underground, glad I didn't buy it last month when I believe it was on sale.
Blazblue is a typo it's supposed to be the vita version, not ps3 version.
I'm starting to wonder if it is actually the PS3 version. :(

Two PS3 retail games are leaving the service.

Germinator is a Vita only game now announced. They don't usually do two.

They usually add two games for the Vita each month.

Do the first-of-the-month PlayStation Plus previews tend to be accurate about which of the free games release for each week? For example, this month Sleeping Dogs is listed first and Pinball Arcade last, so will we see Pinball Arcade at the end of the month?
The PSP Go can do this as well. (Of course, once you load your suspend state, it's gone. So really only load it, if you know you'll be able to create a "real" save soon. )
If the Vita ever gets to $150 or below I'll pick one up.
I'm just using the PSP for RPGs right now, and it works perfect.

I have three kids. None of them have the attention span or focus to game with me, and they all think the TV is theirs and theirs alone.
Haha, when you get around to picking up a Vita, you will be pleased. I held off waiting for a drop also, but looking on Craigslist there were a fair amount of people willing to sell in that range. Picked up the system, a 4GB card and LBP for $130. Keep an eye out.

I was able to get one off CL about a year ago for 150; 3G version with memory card and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. The Vita is an incredible piece of hardware. I love being able to pause Persona 4 Golden on the fly and look something up on the Vita's browser (class questions, grrr). I practically bought a laptop for that gaming purpose and now I don't even use it, haha.

It specifically says it's not in any particular order.
