Totally. This has to be Rockstar's most underrated game.. well it was actually rated highly, but maybe most overlooked? I'd be picking this up if I didn't still have my disc copy.

I purchased Zombie Tycoon II for Vita on the store for free with PS+. I tried doing the same for the PS3 version but it said "you are not eligible to purchase or download this content". My download list has these items:
- Zombie Tycoon II PSN Game 963MB Playable on PS Vita
- Zombie Tycoon II PSN Game 658MB Playable on PS Vita

On their store pages they both indicate they are 658 MB. The PS3 ver store page indicates it's been purchased. Is one of those the PS3 version?

1. Turn off Fast Travel. The game engine has to track all of the NPCs while you fast travel (they move around just like you do) and this can cause lock ups.

2. Make sure your hard drive has extra free space before booting up the game for the first time. The game installs the Game Data in the background once you start playing for the first time (about 4 GB for a vanilla version, more for the GOTY). If you do not have a lot of free space (at least 10GB I would think), then the game may have to save portions of this game data at several locations on the hard drive. This fragmented data will make the hard drive access while playing more burdensome. Also, it is a good idea to do very little in the game for the first 30-40 minutes and let the game data fully install in one block.

3. Always make brand new saves every time you save. For some unknown reason, the save game files grow larger when saving over old data than when making new saves. More save data = more memory usage, so the smaller the save files the better.

4. Turn off the PS3 internet connection before starting the game. I don't really know if this helps, but some players swear by it. It only takes a few seconds to do and it can't really hurt.

5. And most important of all...whenever you start seeing a hint of slowdown or dropped frames, immediately save your game, quit, and power cycle the PS3 off and on. This restart will clear out the cache and ease the memory burden on the game engine. You should see an immediate improvement in the frame rate once you start the game back up. When I played the Fallout 3 GOTY, I just reset my PS3 every hour or so. It wasn't a really big deal.

Hope this helps.
Appreciate the effort you put into this, but that's just ridiculous. Shouldn't have to go through a list of prerequisites to play any game. No "fast travel", lolololol? That virtually renders the game unplayable in my eyes. The amount of time it would take to traverse one side of the map to the other would eat away play time. And, disconnecting the ps3 from internet? I don't even know how to do that. I've never understood how other developers could get their ps3 sh*t together but Bethesda couldn't. I will agree, though, that manually saving and not relying on *autosave* is a must. And if there was ever a reason to appreciate PS+ auto-uploads of saves, Bethesda games are it.
Sleeping Dogs is really fun. It has a nice mix of GTA and Just Cause sensibility with punching and kicking instead of guns. My one gripe is fighting the camera a bit. I like to move one way and look another without the camera wanting to auto orient itself. I couldnt find an option to turn that off either.
I like the look and feel of the game and the open world and the driving but I detest the combat. Now I'm driving around and seeing all the "red" groups (random thugs that are usually guarding lock box areas) and thinking "fuck, I have to fight all those idiots". It just seems like a grueling chore to me. But maybe it will get better - I dunno...

Yeah, it defeats the purpose of consoles. Having identical hardware across a user base means devs can optimize for the platform, whereas PCs can have endless configurations for hardware, chipsets, etc. Tweaks on PC games are the norm and come with the territory, but for a console release there's no excuse.

You don't like the Batman combat? This isn't even the first game to rip it off. (That honor goes to Captain America.) The funny thing is after playing this game, I couldn't go back to Batman because it felt so linear.

The trick is to let your opponent take a swing at you so you can counter. That stuns them more than if you attack them of your own accord. Later on you can spear your opponents and mount and punch them. That's great for crowd control. For now, the best means of crowd control is running as many of them over as you can with your car, hopping out, and quickly grabbing a tire iron from the trunk of the car. (Press Triangle.) That'll make short work of anyone still standing, especially the dangerous fatties.

It's basically the perfect style of combat for a game set in Hong Kong.

Wow, the combat was what made Sleeping Dogs great to me. I enjoyed it, it was such a change of pace compared to the stiff gunplay of GTA and similar games.

What made Sleeping Dogs my GOTY 2012 was the amazing mix of so many other games in a way thay didn't feel derivative. Slo-mo shooting from Max Payne, Arkham games' combat, Pursuit Force car hopping, etc.

All thay into a tightly written and atmospheric package made it barely edge out Gravity Rush, though I'm only like 20% with Sleeping Dogs.

I wasn't sure I was going to like Sleeping Dogs as it's not my favorite genre and the demo way back when didn't really suck me in, but damn now that I'm playing the full game, it's awesome! So glad I got it w/Plus. I may get bored with it before I finish, but it's a lot of fun and a really well made game, I'm very impressed with it. I like the Arkham style combat, it's similar but has it's own cool style.

This was an interesting reply about how Cross Buy works for the Top Sellers list, which is that those games only count once for the version that is first purchased. That means that Guacamelee had enough original purchases for the PS3 and Vita versions to top both lists, which is certainly an achievement.
I believe the correct term is "a trophy". But yeah, that's impressive. It's a wonderful, beautiful, funny game, but I've gotten a little stuck in the cross-world platforming stuff. It gets really, really tricky (or at least too difficult for me).

Just to let you know, your description of combat is the thing that pushed me over the edge to finally download this game...

hmm I never did any of his suggestions platted the GOTY edition and didnt have any real issues compared to the non GOTY or 360 version (only some slowdown but nothing too bad)

Yeah, I actually meant to say turn off auto-save when you fast travel, not just "turn off fast travel". Fast traveling can actually be an overall help with that memory issue if you can use it to skip over areas of the map that you would otherwise find yourself exploring in depth each time you go through them. I did this in Skyrim by using the wagons to transit directly to the big cities and it was a huge help in keeping my save game sizes small for a good long while.

And I agree with your sentiment that Bethesda should have done more to optimize these games for PS3. I think we've seen with Skyrim that if they work hard enough at them they can get the games into pretty good shape. My guess is that these games are so huge that it takes a lot of time and money to make any headway into optimizing them. With Skyrim they had no choice as the base game was unplayable and unless they really fixed it then there would be no future DLC (and no extra $$$ from the player base).

IMO, the reason PS3 has the most problems of all the platforms is the split memory pool. These games are processor and memory intensive, not graphics intensive, so the split memory pool for the PS3 just kills them compared the the shared 512 mb for 360. The only way to get them to run on the PS3 is to cache memory like crazy on the hard drive and load bits of the game data into the useable 256mb block as you need them. And with these crazy open worlds, that happens all the time, every second you play the game. It just is what it is.

I guess I just have a soft spot for Bethesda games. There really is no other game series that comes close to them in terms of presenting a huge persistent world that the player can change in almost any way they want. Mass Effect and GTAs don't hold a candle to them in terms of complexity. You can't break into a random room in the Citadel or Liberty City and rummage through somebody's underwear drawer. And really, what is the point of gaming if you can't do that! ;)

Finished the game last night on the way home from work. I cannot say enough good things about it. It made me realize how much I love metroidvania games. A fantastic game that deserves all the accolades and support.

Now, time to start playing Soul Sacrifice.
Guacamelee was very good. Solid 8/10. Only complaint was that I wish it was longer.
Maybe because I have less and less free time as the years go by, I thought it was just the right length. It certainly didn't wear out it's welcome, IMO.

Does Guacamelee offer a new game plus?

Beating the game unlocks a hard mode, but I don't believe any of your upgrades carry over. You do have to beat hard mode to get the platinum, but there is a simple glitch that lets you skip the hard mode playthrough.

I usually prefer shorter games as well, but I definitely would have enjoyed another 3-4 hours of Guacamelee. Their combat mechanics worked very well, which isn't true of a lot of 2D sidescrollers.

Thx. I unlocked Hard Mode when I beat the game but I wasn't sure if you got to carry over your skills. It makes sense that you don't, because you could skip to the end if the skills carried over.

I wish Sony would give the option to delete all save files belonging to a certain game uploaded to the cloud at once.

I've got over 100 Fallout 3 files that auto-uploaded, huge files taking up a lot of my quota, and I don't think I have an option other than sitting and manually selecting each file, pressing delete, confirming delete, selecting next, etc etc.

Should be a 'delete folder' or 'delete game specific container' option :/

It's there. Just press Square to make sure you're not in the folder mode, press Triangle to bring up the options menu, and click "Sort By" and "Title Name". All of your Fallout 3 files should be next to each other then. Press Triangle again and choose the "Delete Multiple' option and select all of them to do a mass delete.

These universal PSN voucher codes are only valid in North America. They can be received in-game by going to “Librom” > ”Network” > ”Peddler” > “Claim Gift” AFTER the product code has been redeemed. Please note: these vouchers, once depleted, are gone forever.
Edit: Yes, they messed up the last two codes. You don't need to keep reminding us since there have been a dozen posts following this one that have mentioned it.

Should be a 'delete folder' or 'delete game specific container' option :/
well there is a delete multiple option, which isn't too annoying.

EDIT: of course Frisky beat me to it again, with a better answer to boot:lol:
GASP

Not sure how I never noticed that. Thanks a lot you two.

Also, thanks for the heads up on the Soul Sacrifice codes. Got the first two, last two already all redeemed. :(

Ya, the last 2 were already gone for me too. Damn, that was quick.

EDIT: Nobody in the comments got the last 2 codes to work. They must not have been activated yet.

Noticed that and wondered about it.

Guess that leaves me in spring-loaded full-pounce mode.

are the codes actually limited? first two still work, second two still don't. do we need to be in pounce mode or are these going to be active for awhile?
Thanks for those codes, Frisky.
+1, but only the first 2 codes redeemed for me. The last 2 say code is invalid check code again. I'll try them again later.

Edit: Affa beat me to it.

when I go to redeem them on the Playstation Store on the Vita when I hit confirm it doesn't show up as downloading or in my downloads lists what is this about?

After you put the code in, you need to redeem them in game:

From the blog post:
Damn I was hoping I would get lucky. I don't have the game yet but wanted to nab the dlc before it was too late.

So two of the codes we're set up for longevity. fuckin Aram Jabbari, I laughed my ass of at this one:

We’re afraid we prematurely shot our vouchers on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so we’re afraid we have something of a mess on our hands.
Jest aside, we’re sorry for the hassle and we’re looking into it intently. All four codes were tested before they went out; two of them, apparently, weren’t built for longevity. Stay tuned for an update!
