here's the thing - I don't think they have a plan at all. I don't think they anticipated having to continue the series madden style for so long and I suspect you're probably in the minority vs people that just like running around in history stabbing shit so they don't put any effort in to it anymore.

I actually like the absurd present day story and I was hoping that they did have a plan - one that would eventually culminate in some futuristic city based assassin's creed like the subject 16 video in AC2. but since I also like running around in history stabbing shit I'm pretty happy anyways.
I also love the historical settings, but the story is what made me first love the series after the original game. And you're probably right about them not having any idea where the story would go after the Desmond arc. It's like Lost where they wrote themselves into a corner and had to tack shit on.

Alright, quit this shit. Dont make me turn your library in for breaking street date!
hey, I paid actual best buy spacebucks for this game! I should be able to get it whenever I want!

although you'd never know it since my little 'spend to Elite' tracker has been stuck at $350 since some time last year.

Finally got my hooks into Organ Trail and it's pretty addicting.  I can see how it would not be fun for someone that doesn't have experience with the source material.  But I'm certainly enjoying it.

It's actually from the same developer who did Matt Hazard so i wouldn't be surprised if there are some issues.

I am playing another one of there's I picked up for cheap during that flash sale, Dead Head Fred, and it is actually fairly enjoyable so far other than I keep having problems with some of the platforming. The (dark) humor and voice acting is the best part so far.

yeah i really got into it. It is tons of fun, but especially if you had to play the old game. Crossing hordes of zombies instead of river crossing, and driving a station wagon instead of a covered wagon, lol. It is so great. Endless mode looks like tons of replayability and challenges to compete, shame there isn't any trophies for playing it. (altho I found easy way to get trophies was to start endless mode with everyone as a zombie. Then you can get 2-3 trophies alot easier. ) Also if you go to the map while choosing routes it will change the perks the auto store/combat trainer will have. They might patch that soon tho, so jump on it.

also getting the 'i can't do it' trophy was fun, especially since there aren't any guides to tell you what to do yet so you just gotta figure it out...

also found out yesterday I can just go to the library website and renew all my stuff from there. so much easier than going to the library and renewing it there. More free time!

I'm probably the only person that goes back and edits quote posts to get rid of the blank line that always gets inserted at the top of a quote block.

Reviews for AC: Syndicate (Destructoid didn't get a review copy for some reason, so theirs isn't up yet):

Gamespot (9/10)

IGN (8.2/10)

Why do developers think QTE "fights" make for good final bosses? #smh
As much as I want to like Assassin's Creed even with decent scores, it still feels like something's missing from this series for me. Maybe it's the combat. I played and loved 4 (only ever played some of 1 and the Vita game) but with so many open world games now I'm not so sure I want to sink another 30-40 or however many hours this game has to offer. Especially when other games seem to be doing it better. I think more than anything I'd just like to see the series take a year or 2 off and come back with something that's polished, updated, and hits a 9 or above because it's obvious the base is solid. Maybe even trash the story or reboot and have it actually mean something.

That sounds amazing. I really need to finish Brotherhood and start-then-finish both Black Flag and Unity; hopefully by then Syndicate will be $20-$25 at Best Buy.
You always say how you need to finish Assassin's Creed games, I'll make this easy for you...you won't. Just move forward. It's not as if there is some grand over-arching story that's easily understandable that you'll miss out on. As much as I really did enjoy 4 these just pop up every year like weeds!

From what I understand the combat is very different in Unity and Syndicate. Not sure you can really complain about the series as a whole anymore since you've not played either.

I usually finish the games that I start (Brotherhood, years ago), I want to play the ACs that reviewed well-ish or added something new and fun gameplay-wise (which is why I'm skipping Revelations and 3), and I already own them so why not play them?

Meh, Unity wasnt all that different from the others. I doubt Synicate is either. They just tweak some things here and there. Every Ass Creed has felt basically the same to me. Which I dont mind as long as I dont have to play the present day shit.

Assassin's Creed was a new daring ip when it came out and the first three games were great. Then that brutal developing schedule, weak storytelling and jade raymond and desilets leaving sinked that franchise.

so far indications are that syndicate tweaked fighting to be more batman-ish. combo meter, dramatic finishes, changed gadget/gun integrations - I imagine it'll still feel similar but if the last game you played was AC2 or brotherhood I bet syndicate will feel pretty different. guess we'll see soon!

unity was definitely more of the same old combat but they did cleanup some of the free running which I appreciated. it at least results in less frequent random running up things and then jumping backwards.

unrelated: I hate that organ trail trophy card.

We just need Shadow of Mordor 2. Don't fuck it up, WB.

Yeah I read about the "new" combat but it still looked visually like it would still have that Ass Creed feel to it. We will see. Either way the game sounds fun.

Well after reading that I'm definitely not going to skip ahead; if I play Syndicate I know I won't be able to go back to the previous series titles. As long as Syndicate isn't a buggy mess than looking forward to playing it will help me push through the rest of the series.
Even if it is buggy, it'll be patched by the time you get to it.

Harmonix employees posted 5 star reviews for Rock Band 4 on amazon. In the end these can't add up to much as it's a small company and they only had one review each, but still kind of foolish to do that.

did you pick up blood bowl? I'll snag it from the library today if you want to be a dear and trade some online match wins tonight. I think we can just surrender and not play through the 30+ minute games but I also don't mind playing if you prefer. unless I can pick up syndicate today because hype.

True enough.

Speaking of; Arkham Knight still hasn't been re-released for PC. There was a major update and at the beginning of October they announced that it would become available again at the end of the month. Wonder if that will actually happen and how it will go if it does.

I agree with your last two posts (sans stuff about Unity or Black Flag - haven't played them). I think they lost their direction even before the Desmond arc was finished.

My own fault for not being cynical and getting my hopes up, I guess.

I did pick it up, but this entire week I've been falling asleep on the couch before I get to it. #wornout. i'm not into boosting like that, but once I get a chance to learn the game I'd be up for matches.

Pharm made the point for me, but even just watching gameplay videos tells me it hasn't changed much, time will tell I guess when people in here get their hands on it.

Two bowls of Count Chocula this morning. I feel like such a fatty.

I'm going to give up on About a Blob. This last level with the anti-gravity controls and the spinning spike pinwheels is just way too frustrating.

FYI for peeps here with Gamestop credit:

At the moment, the new "POSA card" policy hasn't been enforced at every location. But it looks like it will be very soon. My district just started following the policy recently. According to my DM and LP Manager, the only POSA cards that can be purchased with GCs or trade credit are PSN/XBL/Nintendo eShop cards and restaurant cards.
If you want Steam/eBay/gas/etc. cards, the time to cash out is now.

so bizarre that they would include restaurant gift cards along with the console spacebucks cards. maybe they have a bigger margin or something.

edit - and not steam cards! weird!

How does that Castlevania Dracula X game for PSP compare to the DS games? I played a couple of the DS games and liked them a lot. I guess the graphics are going to be shitty since it's a PSP game, but hopefully the gameplay is up to snuff?

it's remake of one in the older syle. i think most people did/are buying it because you can unlock symphony of the night in it.

In what universe does a DS game look better than a PSP game?

And Rondo of Blood is a prequel to Symphony of the Night. It was originally released for TG16, then remade for PSP.

I've played a bit of it. Plays like you'd expect from one of the classic Castlevanias.
