I think those were mainly real actual live studio audiences. Friends may have been the last show with an actual audience.

I think Malcolm in the Middle was the first "comedy" show that didn't have a laugh track to come along to network TV, or at least that's the earliest one I can think of right now.

Sports Night did for the first few episodes because of network pressure, but eventually got rid of it because it didn't fit at all. Great fucking show.

 
Seinfeld is serious business; some of you need to catch up. 

This scene was on the TV in the hospital room for both of my kids births.  I took it as a sign from God of how I was to rule over my household and it has served me well.

I watched grownups 2 last night and generally enjoyed it for what it was. Of course that was after about 30 minutes of trying to watch the heat which was mostly melissa mccarthy being angry and yelling fuck the entire time? 

Finished up tearaway too. Resetting the system definitely helped with the rear touchpad issues. Tried to go through and do some trophy cleanup since the plat is pretty easy, but I couldn't find some of the confetti pieces and gave up after running through one of the levels 3x without finding them. Fun game, but fighting the headache I get from the narrow FoV wasn't worth the plat. 

 
Like a Randy Orton RKO, a couple more XBOX Live one month codes showed up in my email from that Snickers Gameday sweepstakes that ended last month out of nowhere.  This probably means Equistina will get some as well.

Tyler, I just want to point out that in one of those posts of mine that you quoted, I wasnt hating on you. I was legitimately concerned for the older woman that you're dating. I didn't say there was anything wrong with dating older women, I just wanted to make sure she's taking care of herself.

$14.99 damn if those ship that's a nice grab. Not sure I'd want to be bringing a PS4 anywhere though. Those monitors seem awesome until you lug that shit somewhere. I still have my PSone with the Sony LCD and that shit was portable as hell and still too annoying to bring anywhere.

You are a bit of a hater, but you take proportionally more abuse than most so I guess it kind of evens out.

I realized today while sitting in court with Bob, David and Molly that there's a logical incongruity between your love of dick and your fwb situation. Conclusion? Either one is false or your fwb has a dong.

No matter what, this is probably the dumbest trial ever. Good thing I grabbed a gas station donut on the way here.

Speaking of which, how did that diet go you talked about all that time ago. You bought a PS4 so I have to assume you lost a ton of weight, right?

I have never thought to myself. Wow, this show is great, but the laugh track just ruins it. Yes it would be weird to have a laugh track in a movie. But it would automatically make the movie bad?

It had one, if you saw it in the theater. That was the reason the laugh track was invented, to attempt to simulate the theater going experience of seeing comedy movies and plays as a part of a laughing audience.

Yes.

Laugh tracks are the worst. They try to ram comedy down your throat. If something is funny, you'll laugh. Having the laugh track go off at the same time adds nothing. If it's not funny and you hear a laugh track kick off, then the TV show is literally telling you that they were trying to be funny and failed. Either way the laugh track is bad.

You just made my point. What you just described is a show you dont like. And you dont like anything so that makes sense.

But if you liked the show and a laugh track was playing you wouldnt notice it because you would be laughing yourself and not give two shits.

Not really. Even if you like a show, most shows with a laugh track kick off constantly, far more often than anybody would think the show itself was funny. The funniest show in the world is still going to have tons of laugh track moments when you're not laughing.

 
Laugh tracks, whether a live audience or not, are inherently phony. That's what's so awful about them. They are nothing like a theater full of people laughing together (or not if it isn't funny)
 
Pretty much the only time a laugh track can enhance the experience is when it is a live audience and the performer is allowed to comment on the audience reaction (such as in variety and talk shows) so that it is more like a give and take with the audience instead of the performer pretending there isn't an audience there.
